We map searched for soft serve on a road trip between Indy and Cincy. What a find!! This place is amazing. Less than a mile from the interstate. We walked up and ordered on a sunny afternoon. The menu has everything and then some. The quality of the ice cream was top notch. The strawberry cheesecake sundae "gets better with every bite." The large razzle was so big my 16yr old son had to pace himself to finish it. That also had a remarkable amount of candy in it! And the chocolate dip on the ice cream cone was old school thick and so good! Not a drop of ice cream oozing out of anywhere. Can not recommend this enough! The product at Cabell's is excellent. But if you want to patronize this business. PARK AND GO TO THE WALK-UP WINDOW TO ORDER. The drive-up service moved very very slowly. This last visit. Three cars ahead of us at drive-up and we waited 21 minutes to get to the service window. read more

This is one of three places that specialize in ice cream, or I should say frozen custard. Religious based and populated with clean looking young folk, you are garunteed to be met with polite manners. The original opening was late in the year when frozen would describe the people outside. None the less, the business strives in this small town. Drive through or sit down outside. The outside seating offers a view of highway 44 and the Midas across the street. Located beside the Subway and in front of the movie theater. The drive through can be a little difficult when entering from the west side. Plan for a tight 160 degree turn. read more

Had a huge banana split here recently and it was great, was about $6, but tasty. This place has been for sale and maybe had different owners the past few years. I am glad it re-opened this year. The owners must be deeply religious as they keep a sign on the side of the building saying trust in Jesus and play church music, which for an ice cream shop I thought to be strange, but to each their own. Guess a lil church music doesn't hurt, ha. Back to the ice cream, the cones are filled and stacked high, seems everything is a big serving, and tastes great. I still haven't seen John Wick since my last Cabells review. The girlfriend asked if we could eat ice cream here. I thought about saying NO, just like she did when I wanted to watch John Wick. I couldn't bring myself to do it. Cabells ice cream is just that good. I requested a razzle that wasn't on the menu. I had a banana razzle with graham cracker pieces added. Okay right out of the gate, for this visit, the food quality was a rating of 5. The facility appeared clean inside and the employees were super polite. Why am I withholding 2 stars? Well, 1 star is because the building really needs painted! I mean it looks terrible and I almost didn't go previously due to this. I know this does not affect the quality of the food but come on, it is really an eyesore. The rest of the property is kept up pretty good, a paint makeover would make all the difference in the world. I am sure they are losing some business due to this. The other star being withheld is until I try some of their other food. All I have had is an ice cream cone called a Flavor Burst (Tropical Orange Drizzle) and their version of a Flurry called a Razzle (tried the Butterfinger) both which were very good. Also they have some religious slogan's on the building and they play Contemporary Christian Music there, which was rather nice, compared to some music you hear at businesses when young kids are working. I'm not a local by any means, so obviously I don't frequent this place -- but the one time I did end up there (in fall of 2011) still stands out to me. A friend and I were in the midst of a road trip, from Milwaukee all the way to Cincinnati. After several hours of driving, she decided she was in the mood for ice cream -- specifically, Dairy Queen. Now, I'm ALWAYS up for ice cream, so I was all, "Sure! Let's!" Unfortunately, it happened to be rather late at night when this craving hit... in Somewhere, Indiana... and when we finally did find a Dairy Queen, it was CLOSED. Gasp! Well, Cabell's happened to be nearby, and it looked to be open (at least, a couple of lights were still on, and a man was bustling about). We asked the man if the business was indeed open; he nicely affirmed, then asked us what we wanted. I don't remember what my friend ordered, but I chose the peanut butter sundae. The man continued to make friendly small talk as he prepared our ice cream and rang up our orders. Somehow we ended up telling him that we were on a road trip, and he even let us know how far we had to go until we hit Cincinnati. It was only after we thanked him and started to head back to the car that I noticed (after glancing at a sign) that the business had actually closed something like 10-15 mnutes earlier. I was already impressed by the man's customer service -- and now I was even more impressed that he still took the time to help us (even though he would've been well within his right to say "sorry" or give us a curt "no" when we asked if he was still open). Plus, the sundae was big and DELICIOUS -- especially the peanut butter! With all due respect to Dairy Queen, I'm glad we ended up at Cabell's; and I would definitely visit again, should I happen to find myself in Shelbyville, Indiana! read more

Best ice cream & frozen treats ever! The owner/operator goes out of his way to please and serve. He was closing up one night when I came in and he stopped everything to fill my order, including a large, custom order for take home! No need to wait for the county fair to get Dole Pineapple Whip....They carry it all season long. Just be sure to call ahead for operating hours as they seem to change from time to time. Prices are beyond reasonable considering the super high quality and amazing customer service. Simply cannot be beat and I've traveled extensively with the Army and on my own. This family owned & operated ice cream place is the best by a long shot from all my travels. I can't believe it's right here in Shelbyville! read more

This place is great. I stopped in on my way back up to Chicago when I needed to get my oil changed across the street. Owner was there and waited on me. Told me that he always wanted to open an ice cream shop and had been able to do so a couple of years back. He's really a nice guy. I got a small malt and it was plenty big and really good. These are the kind of places people should support. I hope it becomes a local institution and think it easily could be. Very glad I happened to stop in. read more

We went out of our way to go to this ice cream place. Outdoor ordering and seating. Ice cream was good but the service was better. A Christian quote on the side building sign was lived up to by the young man serving us. Very friendly and courteous fellow. Building is looking a little worse for wear and need some refreshing. (Paint peeling off the walls and the signs are sun faded). They have some food on the menu but didn't look to appealing. We were there for the ice cream anyway.
