This is the oldest bar in Anchorage. And it has sod growing on the roof! I live in a desert so I got such a kick out of that while we were walking in. It has a horseshoe bar with a bunch of pool tables and dart boards in the background and kind of gives you that -old timey wooden bar. Maybe passing by or you work at the military base across the way and you come here for some drinks and shoot some pool vibe. We just stopped in on our way back from somewhere else cuz I found this place on the internet. They have full bar and several drafts. On 5/10/2017 I was roofied after watching the bartender make the "final call" for drinks. My girlfriend and I stood there and watched him make the drinks for us and we both drank them right then and there (bartender was male had medium brown hair that flipped out under his orange hat and he was short / had a big butt) which made our total of drinks 3 that night. Before we could make it to the front door to leave both my girlfriend and I blacked out, from the roofie. My friend drove and we have a 5 second video clip of me in the passenger seat, and she drives right over the median. Fast forward to the next day, I wake up in jail and my vision is blurry and I'm super sick. I don't remember anything after being in the bar. When they finally released me (even tho I didn't drive out the night prior) they handed me my paper work-- I couldn't believe it an OUI and refusal to blow. Somehow I got in my friends car without her and people were calling the cops because I was literally all over the road. All 4 of my gfs tires were popped so I was driving around on straight rims. I get picked up from jail and we go back to my friend's house. We somehow swapped phones that night. She woke up in the drunk tank and had a hard time getting out because she gave them her daughter's name when she was brought there. She also had no memory after our last drink. First thing she told me was she was so thankful I was ok and she thinks the bartender roofied us. Which confirmed my thoughts. I went back to the bar and confronted the bartender who was working again the following day. He says damn that sucks maybe those guys that came up to you and tried talking to you did it. Which I turned them away before they even got to us because I was trying to enjoy my girls night and our drink were still being made from this shady bartender. Bartender told me he followed us outside to make sure we got in our vehicle and not theirs. Weird. I was lost for words and pissed I got a OUI when I didn't even drive out. Cops said I refused blowing and refused getting the blood work when I got to jail so there was no way to prove I was roofied. I went to my dr about 2 hours after getting out of jail. To see if they could find it in my system. Which they couldn't. They told me there's over 70 different things they could have used and would only take my pee. Not blood. So I seriously got fucked over from this place. I posted on my Facebook to warn my friends of what happened to me at that bar. 5 of my Facebook friends commented (mind you I only have about 380 friends on there) were ALSO roofied at this bar. Including my boss being roofied there after ordering a water bottle. Why isn't APD looking into shady dumps like this?? It fucked my life up for a long time and I'm still paying sr22. This OUI ended up costing me 12k. read more

Warning to patrons of the cabin tavern. The staff and owner are running scams on people. They are running multiple charges and double charging people's cards. They charged me an unauthorized $80 on Friday. When I reached out to the owner he gave me a bs story about his point of sale system running preauthorition charges. He said first it takes 24 hours for the funds to be redeposited into my account. After the 24 hours they still weren't there so I contacted him again. He told me to let him look into it and he'd contact me. He called me back and said this time it takes 48 hours for the funds to return. Waited the 48 hours and found they still hadn't returned. Contacted him again and he said he'd contact the point of sale company and get back to me. Later he texted me and said that he reached out the the point of sale company. asked him what they said and he sent this a picture of him and his staff flipping me off in response. They are him and his staff. They are all in on the scam. There is also substantial drug dealing and minors being allowed to drink which the staff also know about. Be wary and pay attention to your accounts if you decide to go to this shady establishment. read more

Halloween costume contest on Oct 26th 2024 was a Scam. Some great well thought out costumes were there. A UFO, a Ballot Box, etc. The $500 went to a friend of the bartender. The costume she wore was just a skimpy outfit with a cowboy hat. No creativity what so ever. She bent over and twerked her rear to collect 1st prize. Total SCAM. What a great place! From the sod on the roof to the uneven floor in places (I swear I wasn't drunk and imagining it) this place is a unique place you gotta try. For several weeks I saw this place packed when I drove past. Finally a coworker mentioned getting a dunk there and I was all in. Many drinks and hours later I stared at a bill.... that couldn't be right. It was far too cheap for Alaska. And I drank craft beer. I'm pretty snobby when it comes to beer and they had several I had not tried. Furthermore, they had variety and I could Choose between an IPA, here, or an array of lagers and such. Served in cold mason jars. Great ambiance, great bartender (though did tend to disappear until the glass was empty) and very rustic. Definitely worth trying out. read more

Some girl shoulder bumps me and drops her drink, me and her had no issues with each other we both walked away fine, then the security guy walks over to me and threatens me to clean up her dropped drink and buy her a new one or get out! Why is it my responsibility to supply a drunk girl her drink let alone clean her mess up!? So if I'm getting kicked out for being sober and doing my own thing then fuck this place, you'd rather have the crowd that gets along with everyone doing the dirty work in the place, and the opposite run around and bumping into people which could have went a completely different way, but I didn't cause a scene. A great dive bar indeed. The only thing I miss about living on this side of town is the Cabin Tavern. The Bloody Mary never disappoints--complete with sting cheese, a jerky stick, pickled asparagus and olives, you have yourself a Bloody Mary meal-half the reason I love Bloody Marys. The service is good and the crowd is exactly what you expect going in. Complete with a couple dart boards, several TVs playing sports, and maybe even the bar dog. I happened upon The Cabin after reading Sasha's review off of my cell phone. It is a homey kind of place, a neighborhood bar with character. The sod on the roof makes it unique in my book. Inside there's a nice long curving wooden bar. Robin was the bartender Wednesday-Saturday. She has a great pour & makes the best Colorado Bulldog I've ever had! All the waitresses are friendly & do their best to make you feel at home. They have 4 pool tables, dart boards and electronic dart boards, a couple electronic trivia games & an arcade style hunting game. Worst experience ever. This bartender has served us two rounds, while saying "tips are appreciated" twice without giving us a chance. Another girl came to the bar that wasn't with us and asked for a drink, and she shook her head no while laughing saying that she won't be helping us anymore because she wasn't tipped the two rounds, but with no chance to tip. She's rude, belligerent, told us to move tables, this bar would be a lot better without this rude bartender who takes her bad days out on customers. Just.....wow. I can't believe in all the years I have been in Alaska I have never been to this place. I like getting divey every once in awhile and this place is definitely top on the list of dive bars in Anchorage. Tucked along a strip just South of the Glenn Hwy on Muldoon, this is every bit a cabin as the name implies. It's hodge-podgey inside, with tables (tall and low), games (darts and pool) and cabin-ish memorabilia sort of arbitrarily placed about. The outside deceives the large, meandering interior. The drinks are stiff and served in a bell bucket glass. The waitstaff, though appropriately friendly enough for serving quite an eclectic and often rough crowd, seem a bit stiff as well - which I enjoy and understand - they don't seem like the type that take flak. One patron was quite plastered and threw a drink (or two) towards a group of people after she was scolded by the doorman. Despite being a good 6' away, I still got a touch of the spray. And despite that, I still like this place! any good dive bar is going to come with some drama. read more

Garbage bar, garbage crowd. The inside looks like it hasnt been renovated or even upkept since Paul Bunyan built it with his bare hands back in 1920. The crowd is comprised of old losers who constantly try to pick up the younger broke hipsters. This is a good bar if you've given up on life, not so good if you don't want to blow your brains out. This isn't a "cool dive bar", its a skid mark on the side of Muldoon, which is yet another reason not to go here. read more

This is the date night favorite. On our way home from downtown, my wife and I always stop for a game or three of darts. They have a bunch of real and automated dart boards as well as pool tables that are rarely full. The tap has a few good beers at all times including local brew from Kenai, AK brewing, etc. Usually have Deschutes as well. There is free popcorn and a funky vibe of college kids, Dooners, and old Alaskans. The place is very chill and a nice surprise from the outside. Also, gotta love the living roof. read more

I will premise this review by stating that I know this will not deter most people from frequenting this place. The atmosphere is great! A lively crowd and the drinks are great! It's the people who pour the drinks that make this place deserving of the 1 star. The bar line is beyond long. The bartenders are inefficient and will take their time talking to their friends and taking frequent trips to the back to eat, rather than serve paying customers. When it gets time to close your tab, make sure you have a full drink, because the bar staff will pass over you and attempt to get drunk people more drunk. Waiting 15 minutes for Asia to close your tab is not an exaggeration. It will take 15 minutes. She will pass over you time and time again, and then tell you to your face, that you aren't going anywhere, so it's not a rush. And if you do go, she can charge a 25% gratuity fee on left credit cards. So unfortunately, because this is the only bar that is within this area, enjoy the staff that is there to make your night awesome. read more
