I've been a patron of the Blue Fox for a long time. In recent years, I've found myself visiting more and more regularly. This has been because of the amazing bar and entertainment staff - great drinks, great service, fun and friendly. The trivia and karaoke were the best I have seen in Anchorage, with a charismatic host and fun atmosphere. These days are, apparently, gone. I have visited twice in the last month, and both were some of the worst bar experiences I have ever had (and I've had some baaaad experiences in my life!). I'm not sure what happened to the staff that worked hard to make the Blue Fox a welcome, classic dive with chill and solid vibes, but whatever the mess is that's in place now is....something else. None of the serving staff seemed to know how to do...well...anything. On one visit, I ordered draft beer - pretty basic. After first returning to ask me for a reminder on what drink I ordered, they still brought me the wrong pour, and after what seemed like an excessive amount of time. I was going to order food, but someone at the table next to me leaned over (unsolicited) and told me I'd be better off skipping it. His actual words were "Don't. Save yourself". Yikes. On my other visit, I ordered an old fashioned. Whatever it was that they brought me, it wasn't anything even close, and it was undrinkable. I sent it back, and never saw a server again. On both visits, noone seemed to know how to use the computer system to get me a bill. I will also note that it was very empty there on both occasions. There is nothing I can think of or that I saw to justify or speak to the combination of slow service and level of bumbling chaos that happened. The place was dead. Not sure where the great entertainment guy went - he wasn't there on either visit, and it looked like no fun was being had by anyone. Something changed, folks. I don't know what, but hear me when I say that VIBES ARE OFF big time. In the words of the fella at the table next to me that night: Don't. Save yourself. read more

Man twice in the past few weeks we went for Tuesday night trivia. The first time the new trivia guy was really bad. We noticed we didn't recognize any of the staff. We went again last night. They changed the trivia company and all new staff. We were told 2 hour wait for food. The place was half empty. What takes so long to fry something or cook a burger? The sandwich was very dry. The trivia format sucks and the emcee was unfunny. Our group of 7 that went every other week will be a group of 0 moving forward. Bummer because it was a perfect place for a casual night of fun trivia. Now we would rather go home and do nothing if we can't find a new place we like. read more

Although I used to visit Blue Fox regularly and enjoyed the service, ambience, and events like trivia and karaoke, it's clear how poorly the owners treated their employees--even without knowing them personally. Usually, people return for the service and atmosphere, but Blue Fox lost all of that the moment they let go of their long-standing employee. Following that, other employees left as well. Now, Blue Fox has nothing left to offer, and it's truly sad to see how the owners undermined their own business behind closed doors. Since I moved to UMed, I've been wanting to try the Blue Fox. I was out hoofing it one day in the late afternoon and decided to grab some pizza at Joe's followed by a drink at the fox. The late afternoon crow at the bar is mellow and friendly. The bartender is friendly and attractive. The fox has a very, safe college dive bar vibe. It's dark and homey with affordable, average drinks. I'm not a crowds person, so the afternoon crowd was my speed, but things heat up here in the evening. read more

I was prompted to look it up when I saw the decor in this place and realized that it was so old that the Oilers were STILL a football team and the Rams were in LA (I know they're back! Shhh!) Drinks are cheap. Chips and salsa and chips and queso are okay. Good prices for quantity. Karaoke on Friday is fun. In case you're wondering, there is more than one mic for groups to do songs together. The book in the back with all the song choices is HUGE. Get there early. The Blue Fox Cocktail Lounge is a good place in Anchorage for Karaoke. They have a decent selection, and you usually do not have to wait very long to sing. They also have wireless mics so you can return to your seat and sing if you choose not to stand up in front on their little stage by the DJ booth. As far as bar atmosphere, the place is divided into two areas, one with general seating and the other with half seating, and pool tables, darts, etc. Friday nights are karaoke, but other nights of the week including Saturday have live music. The sound isn't the greatest and is very loud. It is hard to hear when live music is playing. The service is horrible. There is usually just one server working the entire bar, and there is an old man who bartends on the times I have been there. He is always grumpy and makes a big deal about leaving your credit card, like running your card is just going to ruin his night after each drink. He has giving me attitude every time I have been in there and for no reason at all. Just ordering a drink and he makes you feel like he can't be bothered with anything. If the owners called Bar Rescue for this establishment they would have to fire the entire staff, which is probably like 3 or 4 people. This place is good to go grab a beer but anything too complicated or an entire evening, I would advise against. read more

Let me tell you about this amazing dive bar near my house. The prices and the quality of food it provides is the best proportion you'll ever see in Anchorage, they stay in business by quality alone! All appetizers and entrees and beer are seriously tasty and cheap, lower 48 happy hour-ish prices. ONe issue though, slow service due to only one or two servers for a packed place...so you may wait for a while. But there's karaoke and a pool table or a table literally around an enclosed fiRe. If I lived near here, I would, for sure, be the Duke. Luckily for the current Duke (whoever you are), I do not. I've only been here once. But I LOVED it. This is the closest Anchorage has to a chill, "college" bar. It seriously makes me feel like I'm in a cute little college town. There isn't really any such thing in Alaska, but you can sit in here and pretend you're just across "University Ave" from "the School". You can event talk about how Mr So-and-So's exams are like, soooo, hard! (I hope there's a crazy curve, bro!) I was impressed by the how friendly and knowledgeable about beer the bartenders were. This was a surprise! Also, they had some really good beer on tap (Deschutes Fresh Squeeze, yes pleeze!) and it was...freaking cheap! Cheap beer that's not Bud/Miller/Coors/PBR/etc is a hard thing to find in Alaska, but not at the fox. I'll be back once I make some friends with a couch in the area. read more

We like this little neighborhood spot! Abby, bartender, and the other wait staff have always been friendly and attentive. There is a mixed crowd, all different ages, and always a positive vibe. Such an awesome bar in Anchorage. This is a super chilled out place. On Sunday you can play free pool. Friday is karaoke. They have cheap food that is actually pretty good. Bar is a little dark, but super laid back. Table service has always been spot on. Super friendly staff. If I lived closer I'd be here all the time. read more

Love the Fox! Friends and I frequent this bar after trails on Saturday and on Mondays for cheap delicious food! My favorites are the burger and steak sandwich -- and of course, ALWAYS get the tots. I also like that they have pitchers of cheap beer as well. The ambience also makes this one of the best divey gems in the area. The staff and other patrons are friendly and talkative so even an afternoon lunch alone means making some new friends. I didn't know this place had cocktail in the name... Anyhoo, this place is a clean hole in the wall. One of the first things I noticed, besides the low lighting and seedy entrance, is the clean air. We got a pitcher of Shock Top and split a bacon cheeseburger with fries for 22.50, and it wasn't one of those small pitchers neither. The interior is dark and small with the table tops being the most interesting. All are handmade decorated with sparkles, old liquor bottles, seashells etc... Wouldn't recommend after tonight. "Discovered" this place a year or so ago and tonight was my last time going.

I came into the business looking to spend money I bought four people drinks. I approached a single lady typing a paper for college, and I was approached by the bartender to be told leave her alone she's working on a paper I said, no worries I was told last call, all her friends were sitting at a bar go outside you have no drink I tipped very generously, I asked, why are you so rude to the customers she said I ordered you an Uber it's good enough I have never been treated in such a manner, I will never return But a sad, lonely place. I wish it would've been my place of choice close to my home, but I will never go back because of the treatment I received.This could have been a very different outcome. I would've loved to spend money at my local bar but the service and the disrespect I received is not worth the hard work I put in to receiving a paycheck I would've spent thousands of dollars at my local pub but I've changed my mind, better to drink at home than to spend waste less money.... I've been bouncing back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt and 4 stars. I've had good experiences here and bad. It isn't so much the bars fault as they do a good job, have good food, and have fine service (with the exception of them once losing my card for 30 minutes when I was trying to leave). The patrons seem to be a hit or miss. I believe this to be location based. It's near a campus and neighborhood which seems to have a range from low income college discount type places to family homes. With that being said you'll run into the 21yr old who thinks they run the place, the guys just coming out to play some pool, and other interesting folks. I was once offered a job on a sketchy pot farm that has yet to be built. Haha. I'd say the bar is worth checking out. Just don't judge it too harshly when it comes to the patrons. About the closest thing to a college dive bar there is to be found in Anchorage. Bar food. Bar drinks. Amazing karaoke entertainment on Friday nights. There are enough regulars too make it feel homey, but never too many that you feel as if you're unwelcome or intruding. $1 tacos on Friday nights. Best beer prices in town. Check it out. So in my last few years in Anchorage I've visited the Fox no less than 30 times, last night was my last. This dive has never been the place for perfect service, perfect cocktails, or filet mignon, but last night the Fox was not up to the standard for Anchorage, Alaska, or an establishment in the civilized world. Not a busy night but took the waitress 20 minutes to take my tables first drink order and another 20 to come back and check. The drinks were made incorrect by the waitress and when asked about it, she informed us 'That's how I make it.' I bartended in college and I know when a Crown and Coke is a Crown and Coke. I also know when a Crown and Coke is a well whiskey and Coke. I know when a Jack and Coke with a splash of grenadine is a Jack and Coke with leftover cherry juice from the garnish jar too. To the waitress and the bartender, shame on you. This isn't how you run a bar. You've been better and can do better. I'll be driving to the other side of town for karaoke from now on. read more

I'm a sucker for a good dive bar and this is about as good as it gets. Mandy and Daniel are awesome bartenders. They're both really friendly and easy to talk to. When I first moved to Alaska this place was a a nice refuge where I could go and get some greasy (see: delicious) bar food, a Black Butte, a Jameson and some good conversation. I haven't been around for their karaoke night but the small local bands that they showcase on the weekend are usually awesome and really fun. Love this watering hole! read more

Divey, but not unsafe. It's one of those places with too many seats and tables stuffed together in too small a space that kinda gives the impression that if they were all filled it would be violating all kinds of fire and safety codes. Service is always decent. A little slow, and never awesome, but it's never been bad for me. Food is decent, and they have some pretty well-priced apps and snacks. Not a ton of draft beers, but good enough for what it is. Pretty much the same stuff you see everywhere else around town. Not a lot of highlights or lowlights that stood out to me, other than the dude's bathroom is weirdly small and narrow, and if there's more than one occupant you have to work your bodies kinda like mosaic sliding puzzles to get in and out, and it's positioned precariously at the bottom of some stairs, and I've never been able to exit without hitting someone with the door. read more

Cool little hole in the wall bar in a strip mall over by Tudor Road Bingo. A couple pool tables, areas to sit and BS with your friends without loud music BLARING in your ears... and some Karaoke on the weekends. They have a small grill so you can get a burger with your beer. Overall a cool bar with an array of personalities...and great wait staff! read more

If you make the mistake of going here make sure you only order beer because they can't screw you over. The bartender seemed to have forgotten to put any alcohol in our drinks when we went. Then when we asked for a check we were confronted by a waitress about only getting one drink per person. Usually a super great dive bar but the service has gone completely downhill. The server neglected to check on our table for an excess of 25 minutes, she substituted grenadine for cherry garnish leftover juice (which I found out about only because I enquired about floaties in my beverage????? Grenadine is NOT cherry juice), and she was FAR from friendly. The main guy bartender was completely rude to my friend who said her drink was weak. He said he wouldn't even test her drink once she complained because her "lips had been all over it". I understand the concept of not wanting to drink someone else's drink, but the tone of his comment was beyond that. He splashed a bit of Crown in her glass and walked away. The servers and bartender act like you're hindering their night. Just horrible attitude from everyone here tonight and we normally have decent nights! Not coming back after tonight though. We'll be finding ourselves a new karaoke bar regardless of how we've grown to the regulars. read more
