Considering I went to a Big 10 school in the middle of Illinois I'm very well versed in that type of establishment/vibe. It's not exactly the kind of place I want to go to as a 30 something year old. I went there for a burlesque show. Shout out to Pulse Dance Company! The show was amazing and tons of fun. The bar itself I don't think has had any updates since like maybe 1995, and that estimate is probably generous. This bar was probably the place to be when it first opened, but now it's kind of just tired and sad. It could probably be better if they took the time & money to renovate it, but they don't really have an incentive since people go there regardless. Koot's kind of just exists, but considering Anchorage is the biggest metropolitan area Alaska has it's a confusing type of establishment to find here. If you're looking to party though it seems to be the spot!

The servers seemed a little new, but the service was good and friendly. They carry Frontier brand sodas which we found to be excellent for their flavor. We got root beer and ripe raspberry soda. I ordered the Chili AK Salmon Bowl which our server confirmed is wild salmon. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with fries. Both meals were really good. I especially liked the sauce on the salmon bowl so much so that I asked for a little more only to be charged for the extra sauce. I also noticed they include a service charge on the bill (note that this was not gratuity). They told us it was to help them get seasonal labor and to cover overhead. Maybe this is an Alaska thing, but with menu prices as high as these, why would you need to add a service charge? Pricing and nickel & diming aside, I would recommend this place.

One of the best beers I've had so far is A deal with the devil double oaked! This beer is made to enjoy! On the sweet side with a hint of caramel or toffee. A sample since glass is plenty for me! It's never really busy when I stop by so it's usually pretty quiet which makes for great opportunities to talk to staff members. They all are so patient, which is appreciated! They have a way to always suggest the best beer depending on what you are in the mood for. All in all, this brewery is a great place to meet up with friends or family.

The manager kindly let us know they were having issues with the oven and offered to comp the pizza, but honestly there was no way we were letting them do that .....it was that good. The ambience was great, the staff was friendly and attentive, and everyone continuously checked in to make sure we were doing well. The decor of the place gives it such a charming atmosphere, and by the end of the night we were happily enjoying cider flights and soaking it all in. We came here based on a recommendation from a friend in Alaska, and now I highly, highly recommend it too. I had a hazy IPA here during Fur Rondy and it tasted candy-sweet, oxidized, and had a chemically-bite to it. It is one of the worst beers I've ever had. It tasted old and stale when it should've tasted bright and fresh. I do not know how they can serve it to folks with a straight face, it's that bad.
