Great hang out spot, it is very busy! However we got seated immediately, we did have to wait on our server quite often (to order, for refills, and for the check). The bangin shrimp tacos were really good (you cant go wrong with deep fried shrimp though). The blackened tuna burrito was really disappointing....no unique flavors. Just the taste of beans and cheese. Also my fried plantains were pretty much black, still tasted good but not the best way to present food. Wow Didn't know what to think when I looked up a place to eat close by but I'm incredibly impressed. This place was PACKED and we worried it would a long wait. Nope! Still sat down as soon as we came in! We were greeted immediately with an overflowing bowl of chips and delicious salsa. The drinks came quick and the food was AMAZING. And ... they do NOT skimp. I can't say that for most places in 2023 and even 2022. The appetizer crab dip was also overflowing. I loved my fish taco, I'd like it a little crispier but I'd imagine they wouldn't mind the request when we come again. The plaintians are perfectly cooked. I was really disappointed because I am from San Diego, moved away years ago and was passing through this town and was looking for the real deal. My daughter had the Banging Shrimp Tacos with plantains while I had the Tuna and Salmon Tacos with refried beans. All the tacos were outstanding and I enjoyed the puffy flour tortilla shell set ups. The plantains were a solid side and almost like desert. The refried beans were not a hit which is why I rated the overall experience a four star. Drink orders were taken quickly and while I headed to the restroom (which was nice and clean), they were on the table with complimentary chips and corn salsa when I returned. I ordered the Grilled Lemon Pepper Tuna Signature Taco. There are several choices of sides and they all seemed like good options. It honestly was hard to decide. Food arrived in a timely manner and was very flavorful. Plenty of employees who were eager to help each other out by picking up dirty dishes and bringing extra napkins. This is easily my favorite restaurant in Blacksburg and was a staple of my 4 years at Virginia Tech. Great atmosphere, especially outdoors in the warm months. Close to the bars downtown as well. On this visit, I started with the Cabo Roll and got the chicken quesadilla with peppers and pineapple for my entree. The wrap was delicious- crab is one of my favorite foods and this did not disappoint; It was light and flavorful. The quesadilla here is one of my all time favorite foods. There are so many different menu items I want to get but always end up going with the same thing every time because it is THAT good. The pineapple just makes it special. I've tried to recreate it at home but it just doesn't compare. I will always come here when I visit Blacksburg, and I will always recommend it to anyone in the area. Blacked Salmon - a lot of delicious flavors going on and salmon was cooked perfectly & melted in my mouth! Tofu Chili - I was torn between this and blackened salmon being my fav. This place seems to be a hotspot for VT kids. Tried trying this a night before with no luck due to wait during VT Registration weekend. called in and requested for a spot. Once seated, things moved quickly. They definitely followed Covid precautions from what I could tell. They accidentally brought the artichoke dip which I would definitely recommend. Decor is nice. The server was charismatic. But unfortunately when he dropped off the chips & salsa I could see his hand was in the salsa. Eww The salsa was some kind of corn tomato salsa. It would of been good but it tasted like canned corn The spicy margarita (the angry amigo) was just ok. Pickled jalapeños were used in the drink so all I could taste was pickling juice in my drink. Why can't fresh jalapeños be used? The guacamole isn't freshly made. It looked like purée. And the onions, jalapeño , and tomatoes are served separately from the guac looking purée. Wth? The crane asada tacos were not flavorful at all. Tasted like it was previously frozen & warmed up. The tuna tacos with wasabi sauce were not good either. You can tell the tuna is not fresh. Beware, if you are used to well made Mexican food with fresh ingredients, this is not the place. Wow! My son has lived in Blacksburg for the past 8 years and has raves that this is his favorite place to eat. On a visit we stopped in on a Tuesday night and I can see why! Nothing but the freshest of ingredients! First, who doesn't love homemade salsa! This one has corn in it (nice touch) and the chips were warm with just a hint to salt. We also started with the guacamole, which was the only underwhelming dish we had. The mix-ins (onions, salsa, jalapeños, etc) were a nice touch to create your own. Nice hint of lime juice as well. I got the steak fajitas, and they are not what you get from those run of the mill restaurants where it comes on a steaming platter of chewy, over cooked meat. This was so much better! Seasoned to perfection and tender, it came with lots of fresh ingredients to make the perfect fajita! The kid had a chicken quesadilla, no onions or peppers. He loved it and it's great that they will customize dishes, adding or subtracting as you want it. It proves they make everything fresh! My son, of course, loved his carne asada burrito. He's had most everything on the menu and his is one of his favorites. The jalapeño mashed potatoes on the side were different and yummy! His fiancé enjoyed the carne asada tacos with a side of refried beans (obviously fresh and not the out of a can slop in most Mexican places!). It was a gorgeous dish!
