    Taco time

Visited for a late lunch in downtown Roanoke. To be honest the food was good but not really spectacular. I got one taco and corn in a cup. The taco was flavorful but pretty greasy so the tortilla was mushy. The corn was a new experience and I can't say I was a fan. The service was just okay. The person taking my order wasn't especially helpful. The "restaurant" was confusing as to where to order. It was not really a restaurant and more of a food court vendor. Won't say I won't go back but it wouldn't be my first choice.

This place was wonderful! The spot to order was a little confusing to find at first. It will be a little past the counter separating the inside of the restaurant and Market Building. I was promptly helped and the woman taking my order was very kind. I waited for my order for about 5-10 minutes before it came out. I ordered the birria tacos which were hot and delicious (get them with cheese, it hits the spot!). The consomé was flavorful and the tacos themselves were so juicy. While I enjoyed dipping my tacos, I equally enjoyed adding both salsas to the tacos and eating them as is. I'll most definitely be coming back and ordering other items from their menu!

The entire inside of this restaurant is smaller than my bedroom but the food packs an awfully big punch in spite of! My God did I eat some heavenly fish tacos at this joint! Not the fried fish new wave stuff, naw, stewed well seasoned tilapia. The only reason I'm giving this spot 4 stars is because the tacos were super greasy, other than that, amazing! They have daily lunch and dinner specials, margaritas, nachos, enchiladas and more! You can sit inside or outside on their patio. My honest opinion, this is the perfect lunch spot if you're ever in downtown Roanoke.

I saw good reviews and websites recommending this place as best Mexican food. I decided to stop by and get lunch and I was truly disappointed. Not authentic at all, my quesadilla was made with Flour tortilla and the chicken wasn't very tasty and lots of watery chicken broth that wasn't very tasty either. My tacos were okay but I didn't eat the tortillas, they were super greasy. Salsa verde was horrible, no taste and they water it down way too much. The only two tasty things were the flan & my horchata. I don't recommend or plan on coming back.

This spot is a nice gem located inside the Market Building. I got the Rojas tacos which are basically a street taco entree. Our order took about 17-20 minutes to come out but the service was pretty decent. The tacos themselves were seasoned decently but I would have loved a spicier sauce option to dress it with though since I like my tacos pretty spicy. Overall not a bad place to get some tacos.

Two words: AWE-SOME! Okay okay, that's one word...but for an avowed lover of tacos? Perfection. On my own for the day I set out on foot around lunch time...stumbled across Tacos Rojas in the Market Square. I'll be honest, from the outside, it looks a little dodgy (the menu looks like a car wrap plastered across the windows)...but you know what? It's darn good! I grabbed an order of street tacos: one carnitas, one al carbon and one lengua (that's tongue). All three? Scrumptious. The tortillas were a bit wet, but also tasty AF. I know lengua isn't for everyone, but let me tell you - when it's good? It's amazing. And this one? AH-mazing!! Think a slow-cooked shredded beef that melts in your mouth. Yup. THAT good. The others were also great. Price was reasonable, quality was great and next time I'm in town, you can bet I'll stop by again!

Great atmosphere on the patio. Fresh, authentic Mexican food. Very reasonably priced as well.

This is the 3 Tacos al Pastor Lunch, Salsa and Chips, margarita with salt, and Tecate beer with tajín, salt, and lime. I took a bite!

We have lived here a month or two, and we really regret not trying this place sooner! First impressions: the outdoor seating is so charming and comfortable, the indoor area is neat and clean, I was instantly greeted by multiple employees, the kitchen is open so you can see how sanitary they are. We sat outside and had some amazing margaritas. The service was the best we have had here (which is saying something, Roanoke has great restaurants). We had the lunch special tacos al pastor. The meat was so delicious with no gristle, very high quality meat. The salsas they offered on the side were so flavorful. The chips and salsa were very fresh. I saw them frying fresh chips when I went inside. It came out quickly, with a friendly face. And me and my husband were both impressed.

The tortillas are amazing! I recommend the tacos rojas and chorizo taco. The Diablo sauce is very spicy, but highly recommended.

Great food, had three veg tacos, loved the hot red sauce they served on the side. Salsa was excellent and a good margarita too.

I arrived for an early dinner on a Wednesday late afternoon / early evening. Very impressed with the quality building structure renovation and with the elegant open space interior design, I asked the Host / Server for a table and I was seated and given a copy of the menu. To drink I ordered the Housemade Lemonade. As I waited and examined the menu, I observed the beautiful open space renovation with nice and comfortable furniture and outstanding works of art decorating the restaurant. The server arrived with my drink and a welcoming smile and took my order. For apappetizer I ordered the Chips and Choriqueso. And for my main entry I ordered two Flank Steak and one Pork Carnitas tacos. Two of them Traditional style and one Gringo style. And for dessert the Churrosticks. The iced lemonade was one of the best lemonades I've ever had. Very lemony and the right sweetness. The quality of the Chips and Choriqueso was superb and the tacos were simply delicious. The service was superb. My server came by at the appropriate times to check on me and provide refills for my lemonade. I can't imagine how good the Margaritas must be at this restaurant / bar. I highly recommend this contemporary restaurant / bar for a place to go alone, to relax, or with family and friends to enjoy some quality time together in a clean and tastefully decorated Mexican restaurant located in a chick location.

Today while I was driving down 13th Street looking for a place to have lunch, I drove by this tiny Mexican restaurant that at first seemed like a run down shack, or a hole in the wall eatery, with only two cars parked in its small parking lot. I missed seeing the restaurant's sign with its name. But for one reason or another, I decided I had to turn back to try it out. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And this what I first thought was a no name Mexican Restaurant in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. When I turned around and drove back, as I got closer and closer to the restaurant's sign, I saw it was pretty new, and had a Mexican Hat, a Guitar, and some maracas, and read: "Tacos Rojas Mexican Grill Authentic Mexican Cuisine." Little did I imagine that this place was where it all started. Afterwards, after doing my research I found out the whole story about this place. Primary, that it was that it was the first Taco Rojas Restaurant, and where it all started. How appropriate that to conclude Hispanic Heritage Month, I ended up eating and reviewing this Hispanic Historic Restaurant in the history of Taco Rojas. Tacos Rojas was founded by Octavio Rojas, who moved to America from Pueblo, Mexico, 20 years ago. He opened this first restaurant on 13th Street, 12 years ago which had been a convenience store, and has since then expanded to six locations in the Roanoke Valley, including a location in Salem, which features a party room. The family-run business serves authentic Mexican food and has seen growth, including during the pandemic, partly due to its popularity for takeout. The business is family operated, with Octavio's wife, daughter, brother, and other relatives all involved in the restaurants. As I went inside, even though you can tell the place was once a convenience store because it still contained a wide display refrigerator with bottles of bottled drinks, it was clean and well-maintained, painted with lively colors, and different posters on the wall. The small dining area contained a combination of tables and chairs and some booths. The ambiance was warm and relaxed. One that made you feel at home. A young lady came out to greet me and gave me a warm welcome. I took a seat in the first booth and she handed me the menu and took my drink order. I ordered an Horchata. Afterwards I ordered a Carnitas Burrito as my main entrée. While I waited my server brought a basket of Chips and Salsa. Even though in the menu it was listed as an appetizer, it seemed like the first one was complementary. When the food arrived it was amazingly delicious. The shredded pork inside the burrito was seasoned and cooked to perfection, it was nice and hot, and the sauces on top were very tasty without being too spicy. Now I better understood how the humble beginning of Taco Rojas in this place had taken off and grown so quickly. Octavio's mother's recipes for the food were not only authentic Mexican food but delicious. They gave the cuisine here that special magical touch of satisfaction the first time you came, that made you want to come back and tell your family and friends about it. Sometimes it is in places like these that one can have the most extraordinary dining experiences.

When all the employees shouted "Welcome to Moe's," I genuinely felt welcomed. And this made the big difference in my perception of this restaurant and their entire culture. It seems to me that everyone is welcomed at Moe's, no matter the color of their skin nor their socio-economic status. And genuinely caring about your customers is something that is lacking in many restaurants and should be top priority in the selection process of their employees. Moe's first started in Atlanta, Georgia in the year 2000 and the letters of their name stand for "Musicians, Outlaws, and Entertainers." They celebrate the unconventional. With the belief that you don't achieve greatness unless you "stir the pot." This Moe's Southwest Grill is conveniently located in the Bridges Shopping Center, next to the South 6 Apartments at the Bridges. It is housed in a beautiful, modern red brick building with their restaurant sign high above in yellow, red, and black colors. High above their two glass door entrance thete is another sign that reads: WELCOME TO MOE'S. Once one steps inside, a sound is heard and all their employees with a big smile shout "Welcome to Moe's." The interior design of the place has exposed black ceiling, large yellowish tile floors and lots of orange and red colors to help create a happy dining experience. It also has lots of windows all around their interior brick walls with posters featuring AUGMENTED REALITY (AR), which can be experienced via the Moe's Rockin' Rewards app. On the right side of the restaurant there is a low wall that goes all around and in front of the ordering counter to lead the way to the large menu on the wall and then to the counter where you tell their employees what you want and you watch them make it right before your eyes. I ordered The Stack with Grilled Steak as my protein and many other items along the way. I invite you to view my photographs that accompany this review. I made it a Meal and got a side of Queso and a Regular Drink. By the way, the Chips are free with your meal, they are made fresh daily, and are thin and crunchy. They also have a complimentary Salsa Buffet, where you can get a number of salsas to go with your chips. And if this wasn't enough, their drink machine is one of those where you can choose an already known drink or make your own by adding many flavors. I found this restaurant to be a clean, lovely place to enjoy a Mexican meal in a happy and fun environment. And I highly recommend this restaurant for it's uniqueness and friendly service, as well as for its variety and quality of food.
