I LOVE this place! I had been to the one in Washington Heights a number of times so when I found out they had expanded to Brooklyn I had to go! I wish they expanded to South Brooklyn as well. I got a tequeño (cheese stick comparable to a mozzarella stick) through checking in. I ordered the patacon venezolano because I am a big cheese fan. YUMMY! I first experience Cachapa in Washington Heights and fell into deep, dark love. So, imagine my joy in finding out that moving to Brooklyn still left me within vicinity of this place. It's been three years since coming to this location and it still impresses. The food is absolutely always delicious. I have had every single item on the menu that is meat-free. The empanadas are my easy go-to, but the mozzarella cachapa is a close second. My biggest recommendation is to eat in-store. I came here the other day because I wanted to see what a plantain sandwich was like. We got the shredded Beef Patacon (Green Plantain) and the Shredded Beef Yoyo (Sweet Plantain). I give the Yoyo 4 stars and was amazing! it was hard to eat because it was falling apart and too hot to handle, but once we got a fork and knife it was delicious. The savory beef mixed with the sweet plantain was perfection! I give the Patacon 2 stars because the plantain was really dry, impossible to cut, very hard to chew through and not a lot of flavor. I will definitely come back to for the Yoyo. I would love to try the pork filling this time just to see and also try the Cachapa. read more

BAD SERVICE! Yesterday, I placed a delivery order via GrubHub - I would post this review there but for some reason, GrubHub/Seamless only lets you leave reviews for orders that were actually fulfilled and delivered (which is misleading, but I'll get back to this), which is the whole issue in this case. Not only was the food never delivered, no one from the restaurant called to say there was a delay or they they'd need to cancel the order, and when I tried to call the restaurant to check on the status of my order, no one answered. I placed the order at 9:37p - GrubHub lists their last order time at 10:15p and restaurant closing time at 11p. This order was placed in PLENTY of time and I called at least 15 mins before closing, so there is no excuse for any of this. Finally at 11:05p I realized my shit wasn't coming (delivery window was supposed to be 10:45-10:55p), so I called GrubHub to report the issue and then had to order food from some other place. Super frustrating and unnecessary - communicate with your customers, especially if you can't fulfill your damn orders. It's really that simple, folks. On GrubHub/Seamless being misleading (thus having to resort to Yelp to share information with other consumers): this restaurant has glowing reviews and high ratings, however, I noticed that the last review was from January...it's damn near March. Could it be that there have been a string of delivery f*ckups like this for the last month or so, yet they've gone unreported because you can't actually review a place that didn't deliver your order? Kinda crazy and no one has time to check 50-11 review sites before placing a simple food order...but figured I'd do my civic duty here on Yelp anyway‍ lol. read more

My story and recommendation for this really good place: I was on my way to the airport in Orlando and my Lyft driver was from Venezuela, we were talking about their food and culture and when I told him that I was on my way to NY he was like "you have to try this place in Brooklyn". Food here is pretty good! Not something you'd want to eat a bunch if you're on any sort of diet cause it's just cheese in oily bread, but like, that's what you're going there for. The people here are very sweet and I totally want them to do well. The decor is cute and it's a good place to catch a soccer game. The food is good but pricey for what you get. The plantain bun sandwiches might be an exception to this because where else can you get plantain buns? But their sandwiches are more bread than anything else. Basically they serve it their style, not American loaded with toppings, which is what us spoiled Americans are used to:) No issues with that except the price should equate to what you get. You've got to be kidding me with this gem. I have never heard of this beauty and I caught myself starving in Ridgewood this past Sunday. Hungover and looking to survive another day, I noticed their bright sign in front. After consulting with the lady working the front register, she recommended the sweet corn pancake with my choice of meat. I went with beef. The beef was short rib which was cooked perfect. Stopped by for take out and i got the Patacon the carne asada. So its basically a sandwich where the bread is made of plantain and the meet is inside lol simple as that. This place has a variety of Venezuelan food, its not your typical arepa spot. yes they do have arepas but they also do other things so if you never had Venezuelan food then this is place i mean for the price the food is excellent.
