For as long as I can remember, it was a special outing to head to IKEA in Tempe from the north side…read moreof the city. It has been quite some time since I've been out to IKEA in Tempe but it still feels like just yesterday when I was last there. Now, there are other locations that have opened up in North Phoenix and Scottsdale. The Tempe location is HUGE! With two floors and plenty of great amenities, this store has a bit of everything. At the same time, it is easy to get lost and sometimes, it is difficult to find your way out of the store. They have a Swedish restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Småland which a supervised play area, and a Click & Collect area available for pre-placed online orders. There are plenty of staged areas for each type of room from a living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and more along with a Market Hall where you see sections on cookware and tableware, textiles and rugs, bed and bath textiles, bathroom accessories, home organization, lighting and home electronics, and home decoration. There is also a self-serve furniture area, the as-is area, check-outs, and customer service. This particular store is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Friday and Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM. The cafe is open during the same hours. They are closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving and have special store hours on July 4th, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. Other than offers, sales, and deals, they do host events and activities, which can be found on their website (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/stores/tempe). You can also sign up for IKEA Family where you get birthday freebies ($10 off coupon plus free cake or Swedish meatballs). It's free to join. IKEA Tempe sells everything for the home all under one roof. To better help customers with inspiration, our unique shopping experience includes individual room settings and complete home displays as well as specialty shops full of home accessories and home decor. This is a huge location with most items in stock. While the prices are sometimes more than other stores, it is still a fun place to walk around and quality items you can buy. I recommend that you check it out!

DELIVERY WARNING: they state they will require a signature for the delivery, but they will leave…read moreyour items on your doorstep and forge your signature. I was very upset recently, because I decided to buy two expensive items from this IKEA (a futon and a kallax, this is important). I paid for delivery because these are heavy and I wanted to have the delivery person bring them inside. I also paid for delivery because there is currently active construction on my street, so I wanted to sign for my items and inspect the order being delivered. I simply received an email stating my item had been delivered. Attached to this notification were photos of everything on my doorstep, and an obviously forged signature (which is a felony). When I inspected the items delivered, there was a sticker that said "do not build - sub klippan" and sure enough they had substituted my futon for a sofa. It became clear the delivery driver opted to forge my signature and forgo an uncomfortable conversation about the unauthorized substitution. I did get refunded for the item and delivery fee, but only after I argued. They first offered me a $30 IKEA gift card, so if you find yourself in this situation do not relent!

I love the space and the lighting. I enjoy the chatter and noise of a dining room. Families…read morecommuning, couples in conversation , kids playing, others studying or on their laptops. I've always enjoyed the food. It seems like a "home cooked" meal which I appreciate as it reminds me of yesteryear circa 1970's/80's Hardy Dr. growing up with dinner on the table at 5pm. Today I ordered the falafel plate, slice of garlic toast and cured salmon/lox. The food line looked as if it could use a touch up as the peas kind of looked not as perky as they could be. The couscous situation as well, though it was tasty on my plate. The picture showed the pearl couscous which I prefer, but was serving the smaller Moroccan type couscous. The falafel almost had a dense "meaty" texture. I even doubted for a minute if I got the Swedish balls instead! I enjoyed, but might stick to the veggie or regular Swedish meatballs next time. But I appreciate the option. Served with garlic aioli. I had to look up sauce on website as I thought it was hummus, but tasted different. As I was looking at the IKEA webpage I saw that they also serve breakfast! The soda was a little too sweet for me as I mixed sparkling lemon lime and lingonberry but an easy fix- I created a new mix which was perfect- really delightful- 3/4's plain sparkling and 1/4 sparkling pear. A good meal and visit.

I've been wanting to try IKEA's restaurant for a while now, but they have been a little hit or miss…read morewith when they have vegetarian options available. On this visit, they had their plant balls, so I ordered a kids meal to try. It was $4.99 and came with four "plant balls" which are made out of pea protein, mashed potatoes, vegetarian gravy, green peas, and lingonberry sauce. The combination was actually really yummy and though I don't usually enjoy peas, they worked on this plate. The size was plenty for a light meal, and affordable when shopping at IKEA. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here if I wasn't shopping, but it's a nice option to have if you want a bite to eat or to take a little break during the IKEA extravaganza
