Once was in 2017-2018 when I worked at a prior company in Halethorpe. One time was when a friend was in town in July 2023, and the BBQ place turned into a To Go only, and we ended up here. Finally, I went with my girlfriend in April 2024 after an O's game. Every time, I got enchiladas, and every time they were good. This is a Mexican place, where you order at the front, and the prices are very reasonable. This isn't gourmet, but it's a solid option and at a good price. Staff is nice too. read more

Ive been there a couple of times, and they were both good experiences. I like it that they are conveniently located close to my work in Arbutus and close to the UMBC area. The staff are friendly and the food is good. The first time I went there, I got fish tacos. It came with 2 tacos for 6$. I liked it, bc the fish was cooked to order, it came out fresh, hot and tasty. The only thing is that I would have liked it better if the fish was left whole pieces and not chopped up to crumbs. The second time I went there, was for taco Tuesday, when you can get beef, pork, or chicken tacos for only 1.25$. That is an excellent price. However, I felt that the chicken and pork were a bit dry, and did not taste freshly made. It tasted like it was made ahead of time and put into shells when ordered. Still, they were flavorful and were a good value. They have a lot of other scrumptious looking items on their menu, like fajitas, quesadillas, flautas, chimichangas, and other Tex Amex specialties that I'm looking forward to try, so I'll definite be back for my next Mexican lunch. read more

I usually like this restaurant. My favorite item is the Tex-Mex Grilled Chicken & Shrimp Salad. It comes with chicken shrimp, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and cheese. Today it came with 2 pieces of shrimp and the very unwelcome onions, green and red peppers. I don't like onions, green and red peppers. They are not listed on the menu. I threw most of it away. Atmosphere: I have a bit of an issue with their plastic covered tables with red linen underneath, just not very nice feeling when you are eating- and the fake roses were a poor touch as well. Ordered nachos and asked for plates to share among the 4 of us, and you know wanted silverware too! They brought these flimsy plastic plates! Ugh! Not impressive...to add insult to injury as they served our food they turned on a noisy TV- family feud I believe. Ugh again. When they served our dinners they did so one at a time. One of the party had to wait 5 minutes extra. Food: nachos with beef were a bit salty and greasy. Decent taste but not overwhelming. Comes with guacamole and sour cream so how can you argue it isn't packed full of flavor- fat carries flavor! The "queso" was more like Cheese whiz than authentic Mexican anything. It's a dreary, rainy Cinco de Mayo so I decided to stay close to home. I figured I'd see what kinda deals they had at a non-chain restaurant. Since I'd been here in the past and it was decent, I stopped in. It was dinner time, but nobody was inside, all the chairs were put up, etc. No surprise at all because the weather was horrible out. I'm a pretty plain eater and there weren't many specials, but they did have a 3 taco deal for $5. I tried to order 3 beef tacos, but was told the special was only for 1 beef, 1 pork, and 1 roasted chicken taco. Oooo-k, I still went ahead and ordered all beef tacos. No pico, just taco sauce on the side. When my order came, there was only 1 taco sauce, but they gave me another one when I asked. I noticed there was barely enough cheese for 1 taco spread across all 3 tacos so I asked for more. They told me it would be 25 cents more. Look at the pic and read my last sentence again. No, ur eyes aren't deceiving you. Maybe they were trying to recoup their losses due to bad Cinco de Mayo weather I told them to forget it and took the tacos as is. And that was before I noticed the nice sized pool of grease in the corner of my container. This place has definitely gone down since the last time I was here. Then, only the customer service was lacking. That wasn't so great this time either. The poor quality of the food added this time leaves me no choice but to give it 1 star...and that's being generous. read more

We've been ordering from Cactus Silvestre since we moved here in 2021, and we've never been disappointed. We had lived in a place that only had fast-food tacos, so when we realized there was an actual Tex-Mex restaurant in Arbutus, we were so excited! The staff is super friendly, and will always make you feel like your order is important. The food is always hot when we receive it, and it is packaged with care. Everything is seasoned perfectly, and you can tell they take pride in their food. My favorite is the Steak Quesadilla - it has a generous amount of cheese and steak, and comes with guac, sour cream and pico de gallo. We order every week - it's our tradition! read more

I got the shrimp burrito with all the fixings with guacamole inside my first eating from there. It was delicious! It had lettuce, tomato black beans, rice , marinated shrimp and guacamole. It comes with the option of hot or mild salsa on the side and of course I chose hot. Yesterday we decided to go and get a burrito and decided to sit down and eat instead. The lady who took our order was very nice and because I did not know what I wanted after looking at the menu. I saw that they had churros but they didn't have them yesterday so I was sad so next time I go I will get one. As I said before this is my second time eating from here and the shrimp burrito was my go-to. It was a nice flow of coming in and out while there. Maybe I went on an off day, because I'm not sure why else the overall rating for Cactus Silvestre is so high. The food took forever to prepare, and when I finally sat down to eat, the tacos were hardly authentic. They were full of cheese and crappy lettuce...quite frankly, they were Americanized tacos for all the "gringos." I feel like I basically threw money away on this meal as I couldn't even bring myself to finish it despite its average-to-high price. I had high hopes after reading all the positive reviews on this place and I wanted to support the local business nearby. First off, they no longer serve rotisserie chicken. I should've left when I found that out. Instead I got the steak fajitas, yucca fries and pork sopes. The yucca fries are not cut pieces of real yucca. They're like weird sweet dough mixed with yucca flavor fries. The fajitas was overly salted and the sopes were lacking in flavor despite the fact it was so heavily topped. I go to school at UMBC so I come here quite often. This place is really good. I usually get the chicken enchiladas and mix the black beans, rice, and tacos all together. Yum. It takes about 10-15 minutes for your food to be ready, which is ok I guess. It is kind of hard to spot this place as the location kind of sucks. It's at the corner of a street with very limited side parking. Also, their sign isn't very big which also hinders their noticeability. The inside of the place is kind of dirty and relatively small. However, every time I go there, their hasn't been too many people eating or ordering so the spacing has never been an issue. Advice to the managers: keep your restaurant clean and create a bigger, maybe more flashy sign to attract new customers. (If it's in the budget) Food is delicious though! read more

3.5. I couldn't find parking so I just went across the street and parked at the Convenience Mart. Bought some snacks and drinks from the place then asked if I could leave my car there for a bit. Guy nodded his head. Cool. So I go inside and 2 out of the 4 or so tables were occupied so it seemed busy. The guy working there looked a bit tired, I'm guessing hangover from the night before. All good. I ordered 2 Beef tacos, 2 Steak tacos and an order of Shredded Beef Taquitoes with a 20 ounce Sprite. I waited for a bit while watching the Ravens going against the Bengals. I saw the guy working there pick up some old plates on the other table, went back and 1 minute later called me out for my food. When I saw what my food was on, it was the same exacts plates the guy picked up at the other table. I got the 2 plates, put em on the table, inspected them and it was clearly just rinsed because there were still a couple pieces of what looked like semi-fresh rice and lettuce stuck to the plate... It's okay though. The tacos were just tacos to me. Generic soft tacos and there was almost no difference between the Beef and Steak tacos, only that they were in different shapes. Meh. BUT, I mean BUT, DEM TAQUITOES WURR DEELISHIS. I don't know what they did to those Taquitoes but from the slightly flakey and crunchy crust to the moist, tender and flavorful beef inside then mixing that up with the guacamole, MY GOSH. I should have gotten 3 orders of those instead. In fact, the next time I go there, I'm ordering at least 3 orders of those Taquitoes. The Taquitoes were clearly the winners there. read more

Okay first things first this place is actually called Cactus Silvestre Fresh Tex Mex Grill. I don't want any other slow folk driving around looking for something else. It is a small restaurant on the corner with a bright yellow sign. When I went there was construction, so I'm not really certain if there is parking in the rear. I parked on the street. The place is small maybe five tables tops... The menu is pretty decent, I think they are known for their rotisserie chicken, but I wasn't in the mood for that on this day. I got a beef burrito, it was hearty in size, I could only eat half. I thought it was pretty good, I wish that the beef was more seasoned but either way it was good enough. It also came with this bangin' pepper sauce. I noticed that they deliver and they have .99 cent tacos on Tuesday. Can't beat that. I want to go back and try more. read more

Trust me, it's clean and inviting inside). Some children were playing - I presume related to the work staff. The man behind the counter gave a big smile and let us take our time ordering. They make everything fresh to order, so you might wait a little bit longer, but it's worth it. We sat down and looked at the "O's" marking on the wall, sporting local team pride. We got two pork tacos to start, veggie quesadilla, and a 1/2 pollo - a Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken. The tacos were good - not as good as a Rt. 1 truck, but pretty darn close, nice corn tortilla and richly spiced filling. The quesadilla was cheesy and full of lots of veggies (to be fair, they looked like packaged frozen veggies I remember from childhood); I just wish they gave us more guacamole 'cause it was phenomenal! The chicken was a LOT of food, even splitting it. Again, the accompanying sauces were delicious (one spicy, one mild), but we would definitely have loved more! The fried yucca side was killer - cooked just right so it was firm but somehow fluffy. The plantains were good enough that we considered ordering a second, separate side of them. The staff are very friendly and you can get a lot of food for your money (most individual dishes are under $10, though that will change if you start ordering appetizers or extra sides). I've been wanting to try this place due to the other reviews and of course my love of Mexican food! The ordering process is pretty straight forward, approach the counter and order. The dining area isn't huge but they do have a few tables if you like dining in. I ordered chicken fajitas and chips with guacamole for a starter. They don't have fountain drinks or alcohol but do have a cooler with cold, bottled beverages. The chips and guac came out on a plastic plate. The chips were good, not great and the guac was fresh, but bland. My fajitas were next, also served on a plastic plate, but tasted great. A nice portion of chicken, onions and peppers were plated alongside spanish rice and black beans. The rice was also bland. The green paint on the walls is hideous and the hand painted woman, cactus and taco cloud are dreadful. Just a simple nuetral color would be a huge improvement. Plastic plates and green painted walls won't prevent me from returning though, I will go back as the food, although not heavily seasoned, is pretty good and the prices are in line with the portions. read more

I love this little restaurant. The staff are kind and accommodating. The prices are low (especially if you take advantage of taco Tuesday) and the food is always fresh and delicious. My friends recommended this place and so we decided to come and try it out. The service here was amazing. The cashier/server Debby was so friendly and was willing to help the customers even when working behind the desk. As for the food, I ordered 6 tacos and a side of rice. All I have to say is that I ordered more tacos afterwards. The tacos were so good I highly recommend the pork tacos. Very good food at a very reasonable price! For $11 you can get a heaping amount of fajita fixings that can make at least 2 meals! Their steak is so delicious and mouthwatering! I have tried the steak burrito also and recommend getting it. The only downside to the burrito is it does not come with any sides like beans or rice. I have ordered from this restaurant for delivery and they took 1.5 hours to deliver one time, which was RIDICULOUS. So be sure to order way ahead of time or tell them you need it quickly. When I ordered and went to pick up the food another time it only took 30 minutes, so try to pick up the food if you can. Just ordered delivery from Cactus Silvestre and the whole experience was a great end to the weekend. With COVID19, we haven't been to a Mexican restaurant in 2 months. So I googled Mexican delivery near me. We ordered tacos, pork quesadilla, steak quesadilla, fried plantains, chips, salsa, guacamole, hot cheese and churros. Within minutes of ordering, the restaurant called me to confirm the order and said I could either pay on the phone or by cash or credit card upon delivery. I paid on the phone, tip and all, and I immediately received a receipt via text. 20 minutes later, the food was delivered, still warm! The food was DELICIOUS!!! Every single bit of it.
