I think that I probably should of ate inside instead of ordering to go. Especially something like nachos. So maybe that was my fault. The cheese tasted really good and I'm sure it would of been even better if I ate it when the cheese was freshly poured. The rice was nothing exciting. I was expecting it to be a little more flavorful and not as mushy as it was. I didn't really enjoy the rice too much. The chicken quesadilla was just okay. Not the best I've had but not the worse either. No really complaints but I feel like it was missing a little something. Maybe a little more char on the chicken which helps the grill taste permeate through the quesadilla. I still ate it and next time I will just eat inside instead of picking up my food. El Patron is my go-to, neighborhood taqueria. It is a small location, but I only order pick up so I never spend much time inside. The staff is friendly, but sometimes the wait is a bit extreme. But their food is worth the extra wait, I just suggest that you order well ahead instead of just showing up! I am a fan of corn taco shells, which is what they use, and their tacos come double-shelled. They over-stuff the tacos with tons of meat, onions and my favorite, cilantro! The fresh vegetables that they serve with the tacos are always fresh and the perfect addition! They used to include verde sauce with their tacos, but now they give the red sauce pictured. Personally, I don't care for any type of spicy sauce, luckily; I keep a jar of verde sauce in my fridge! :-) They also used to give you chips and salsa on the side, but they stopped. It would be great if they decided to bring them back! During this trip, I decided to try one of their dips. Boy, am I glad that I did! The chorizo dip was so good! They give you a ton if it and they are not stingy with the chips either! It was just the right amount of spicy, and the queso was creamy and delicious. I'm usually a regular at other Mexican spots in the area, but I decided to give this spot a try. They look like they are primarily a take out spot, but there is ample seating inside. We ordered a shrimp burrito platter that came with rice and beans and a steak burrito. Their portions are fairly generous and pricing is very affordable. For both items we paid around $27. Their food was very tasty and flavor seemed to be very authentic. I always look for value and a place with no pretentiousness. This place has both of those in spades. The food is good, the people are nice, but it doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Just as good dining in as carry out, just wish I could eat there every day! They cater to everyone and are super helpful people. Who knew Paraside had such a great place? We finally ordered to go from el Patron, and the experience was very interesting. First off, it's small, but homey, clean and inviting inside. The gentleman behind the counter and I spoke in Spanish, but his English was good too. Very friendly and appreciative of our business. Food was a mixed bag. The best items include the killer guac, and the tacos. I'd never had tacos de lengua before, but it was so well cooked that it was very tender and delicious. The carnitas taco was also quite delicious. I normally get a taco al pastor, but you can get a taco meat on your nachos, so I got it there. Surprisingly, the nachos had pineapple on them (I don't know if that was because of the al pastor, which sometimes has pineapple, or if it's standard), which wasn't bad, but unusual to say the least. It was overall delicious and very filling. I think my wife was underwhelmed by her chicken burrito. A lot of rice and peas and carrots (??!) - again, quite an unusual filler. Prices are decent, service is great, and the atmosphere friendly. Grab a bottle of Jarritos and you've got a solid Mexican culinary experience! I look forward to coming back. read more

So sad that this place has deteriorated. We decided to eat in the restaurant, but also needed to take something hone. When we arrived, there was a man sitting and talking with a couple of women. No one else emerged. As the group continued to talk, we stood at the counter waiting. We thought they were customers who were also waiting. After about 10 minutes, my companion interrupted them to ask if they worked there. The man called himself the "manager." We told him we were ready to order, and he said he would be with us in a few minutes. He then told us we could "sit down" and he'd be there in a few minutes. Then he disappeared into the back. After about 6-7 more minutes he appeared to take our order. We told him we wanted a separate order to go and he said he would put it in. He then disappeared for about 10 minutes. Just as we were getting ready to leave, he finally appeared with chips and salsa. He then disappeared for another 10 minutes before reappearing with our drinks. Meanwhile, several people came in, ordered at the counter, and left with their orders, while we continued to wait. Once our food finally arrived, it was immediately apparent that something had changed. The meat in my quesadilla was very flavorful and tender, but the quesadilla itself was dripping with grease. I used countless napkins to try to drain most of it off, but could only get through half. My side of beans were tasteless. My companion's tacos were good. We then went to the counter to check out, where, surprise! Our takeout order wasn't ready. So, once again we sat and watched people ordering takeout, waiting, and picking it up when it was ready. While we continued to wait. Once we got our last order home, our diner said it was "just okay." Sadly, we won't be going back and need to find a new Mexican restaurant. read more

This place is one of those great small town businesses in a great small town. It is located in a part of Catonsville called Paradise. The food is fresh and good. They have continually added new things since opening a year ago. They now offer breakfast, baked goods, and papusas. Tonight they had three new seafood specials. This spot is a favorite of my wife and I. It's in our neighborhood, which makes it soo easy to make #tacotuesday happen every week. The quality of the food is above grade, you know it's authentic Mexican cuisine when you dive in! They're not too costly which is another reason we eat here so often. My sons love the quesadillas and always ask "can we get El Patron tonight?!". My wife loves quest fundido, it's creamy and full of chorizo sausage. It makes dipping your chips very easy. I'm a huge fan of the camaron/shrimp tacos. I always get them, sometimes I try to get her to order me 6 but she doesn't think I'll finish them lol. The reason I give 4 stars is because they are a little on the slow side. I'm certain it's because they're so busy but they quote you a time and it still takes 20-30 minutes after that time to get your food. But definitely don't let the time stop you from enjoying authentic Mexican food. It's worth the wait. read more

Straight delicious tacos. Ordered up some filled with chorizo, beef tongue (lengua), and pork (pastor), and they came topped with cilantro and onion on sturdy yellow-corn double tortillas along with cucumber slices and radishes. The owner provided a warm-spicy chipotle mole, salsa verde, and red chile salsa to go on top. Then, she returned with some queso fresco and queso oaxaca as well. Gotta love tongue tacos with all the fixin's. The burritos are pretty tasty as well, wrapped in soft (not chewy), slightly grilled flour tortillas with rice, cheese and refritos: sour cream, guac, and pico de gallo are optional either wrapped up with the filling or on the side. Burritos also come with a side salad of lettuce, onion, cucumber, and radish slices. Really friendly folks. It's a fairly limited menu at the moment, so we'll see how it changes over time to suit the tastes of the area. Still, it's good to have a decent Mexican option in the neighborhood, and even better that it's got sit-down dining as an option. I can see hitting them up for lunch tacos pretty regularly. read more
