This is my first review, and I must say this restaurant exceeded my expectations. I decided to sit at the bar, where I was greeted by a very nice young lady with locs. I don't normally drink when I go out but I was feeling a bit wild that night. She recommended a drink called "la suegra", I'm not to sure how to describe it but it was very nice. It scratched the back of my throat in a pleasant way, I had to order a second one. I then ordered food, which I was a little intimidated by the scale of their menu. The tacos asada were delicious, and the paired salsa was amazing. I ordered a red salsa against my better judgment and found to spicy, but the flavor was still spot on. Very impressed with the food and atmosphere, not used to such welcoming staff in Maryland. I just want to draw attention back to the wonderful bar staff, the young lady was very on it. Even in the rush she was very attentive and kept up her friendly attitude. I never got a chance to speak to the gentleman working with her but he was just as busy as she was. The customers he was assisting looked as happy as me. Great job soluna, you guys really live up to the name "tequila bar". My friend and I came here on a Saturday night after visiting UMBC and I think this location was 12 (or less) minutes from campus. First things first, this place had its own designated parking which I appreciated. Soluna specifically is located within a shopping center with other food and drinks options (liquor store next door) surrounding. We entered the restaurant, told them we wanted our table for 2 and was taken directly to our table. We were greeted by our server who gave us water, chips, dip & menus for the evening. I might've had the most delicious margarita of my LIFE from here; a ginger margarita. The food was also good overall. My friend ordered the queso and chips, and the birria tacos; I had the empanadas, chicken and chorizo tacos, and street corn - and out of all of the items, only the street corn was a questionable item. It was burnt, like all I could taste was "burnt". Additionally, I'm not sure of what bbq/tajin sauce was included on the street corn too, but it was not good. I set up a lunch for five guys recently and this place was really impressive. My buddy Larry ordered the house margherita and he remarked, "On a ten point scale this marg rates a 9.5!" My friend Mike ordered oyster tacos and raved, "How do you find these places? This food is delicious!" I enjoyed a shrimp quesadilla and it was great. I wasn't that big of a fan of this place despite the rave reviews. They start you off with chips and salsa but the chips are served in basically a dog bowl. 3 dollars for refills which didn't seem worth it. I had a Al pastor taco and it was missing seasoning. First time here and we really liked it. I got a big burrito and my wife got a large quesadilla dish, Both were very good. We had reservations (looks like this is highly recommended as it's a very popular place) and we were seated immediately. The waitstaff was fantastic. Checked on us quite a bit and knew the ins and outs of the menu. Note that this place is really loud. Hard flooring and a high ceiling makes for lots of noise and echoes. Not only is this restaurant decorated well, with a flavorful menu / the bar makes a great margarita with so many variations. Their beans were good, salsa flavorful, chips the right bite and saltiness. Rice was fluffy and the meat was well seasoned. But the margarita is what made this place special. read more

My family has dined at Soluna Cocina numerous times since it opened, including dinner, Happy Hour, and lunch in the past three weeks. The food and service are consistently very good, definitely a favorite for my household, and the Happy Hour is a great deal. Today, a Saturday, we went there for a late (1:30pm) lunch and had an excellent experience. Our meal was great and our server, Carol, was perfect - friendly and very attentive! It was my birthday and the restaurant even treated me to a free "fried" ice-cream that was delicious. I understand they will be adding an awning to shade the outdoor eating area which will be enhance the patio dining experience this summer. Highly recommend! read more

The walls are covered with bright, eye-catching murals, and the lighting/decor gives the whole place a fun, modern energy. Who knew such a great Mexican restaurant is in Elkridge! A must visit for anyone craving yummy tacos. It was super nice that the tables were not jammed in there but far enough apart for a wheelchair to navigate smoothly. Yummy, fresh, crunchy chips and salsa were provided immediately. Ordered and tried their winter margaritas made with the usual liquor and white cranberry juice and coconut cream. A bit too strong for lunch but was good nonetheless. We ordered a couple of rajas con hongos and the camaron and loved them. We felt the prices were reasonable in the present economic climate. I liked the colorful atmosphere and the originality of the decor. Wish there were a couple of more handicapped parking spots. Okay Mexican food. We visited Soluna Cocina and Tequila Bar on a Saturday night, and it was about half full. The restaurant occupies a modern, industrial space with Latin art on the walls. Pop music played during our visit, and the bar has televisions for watching sports. I had the mezcalita to drink, the Coloradas enchiladas as a main, and we split the ceviche as a starter. Chips and salsa were served before we ordered. The salsa was a bit watery, but the flavor was good. The chips were on par with other restaurants. The mezcalita was quaffable but with muted flavors. The ceviche was watery, and some of the fish pieces tasted old. The enchiladas were standard fare. Well now this has been put off on my list but man am I happy I finally went. I really appreciate the transformation from the previous restaurant which was located there. Great decor and cozy feel. There is plenty of bar space if you choose to dine there. I went during off peak hours which was a smart move. The servers were super attentive and polite. The portions of food is rather generous so that was a nice surprise. *Note it can be pricey but worth it * I knew it was a win when I saw they made michelada's on their cocktail menu. I grabbed an Oaxacan Old Fashion and Soluna Margarita. I do warn if you are not a mezcal person don't order considering these cocktails are spirit forward. Me personally I loved them and will go back to have the same trio of cocktails. Now for the food, the Chamorro de puerco was an instant hit. Robust flavor, tender, and hearty. The only knock I'd give the dish was the rice which wasn't as seasoned and was simply just rice. That was ok though because the mushrooms made up for that in a big way. The umami flavor was intense but very welcoming especially on the fork with the pork shank. Please give that a try or even share with friends or family. The carne asada was nicely prepared, cooked to the requested temp, and had some good char without settling for overrated grill marks for appeal. I do appreciate it was at minimum a choice grade steak and served whole so you could cut into it as you wish. The refried beans were flavorful and filling. The elotes (Mexican Street Corn) had a unique taste with the house tajin sauce but was good when mixed together with the crema . The corn was roasted and shaved off the cob. Both desserts hit well too. Not pictured was the tres leches and that was on the same level as the Chamorro de puerco Just amazing!! Atmosphere is very trendy, lots of Americano art and moody lighting. Pretty loud inside but wasn't too difficult to hear each other. Food was pretty good! Better than I expected from what looks like a gentrified establishment. Usually when they put that much effort into decor, the good sucks. But this place delivers. The ceviche annoyingly came in a frosted mug but we had small plates to spoon it onto. It has a spice that was sometimes surprising. Sunken burrito & oyster tacos were bomb. The fried ice cream was standard, chocolate cake was dry and unimaginative. The blackberry margarita was tart and strong. We arrived at 6:30 pm on a Saturday night without reservations (they use Open Table). As we came in, there were two people waiting to be seated and a couple who was leaving who didn't want to wait. We were told that without reservations, our wait would be 30 to 35 minutes. Scanning the dining room, there were multiple open tables, and it was never clear to me whether they were being held or if they were too short staffed to serve at them. The wait was closer to 45 minutes, which was especially disappointing because the waiting area had ONE chair. One chair. I would not recommend coming to wait with anyone who can't stand for long periods. We could have waited in the car since they were going to text us when our table was ready, but that was not tempting because it was 20 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Once seated, we were greeted quickly by our server and received chips and salsa and water. The water glasses are short, so I asked for a pitcher of water. I chose the sunken burrito with carnitas, and my friend had chili and shrimp tacos. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time was very colorful and looked delicious. I was disappointed in the burrito. The temperature was lukewarm, and the ingredients were not evenly spread. This meant that the first half of the burrito was primarily refried beans and rice. When I got to the meat, it was ok but needed more spices. All in all, I am not sure if I will go back. I didn't like the fact that if there is a wait, it isn't comfortable. The service is great, but I like my food more flavorful. There were some longer tables for larger groups. It seems like a great date spot and had a few televisions with sports programming over the bar, but those features aren't what I'm looking for. 4 out of 5 stars for service and overall appeal, but disappointing food temperature and flavor. read more

*Happy Hour Review* I heard all good things about this place! I had it bookmarked and I finally came to go check it out for myself! It did not disappoint. I'm already planning my next visit. Any takers?! I'm not sure what was here before, but the space felt familiar for some reason. Like I had been before under a different name. We came for happy hour and had amazing service at the bar. Ed was great! Happy hour is at the bar area only and from 3 - 6! Get here early! I tried the chicken tacos and they were very authentic and yummy. I wasn't that hungry so the two tacos were fine. Looks great and smells great. Came by on a Sunday for the first time and I was impressed. The decor inside is beautifully decorated in a Mexican theme. Wasn't too crowded so it was easy to park and no wait to be seated. They had a mix of top 40 music playing but it wasn't too loud. At the bar they did have on some of the Sunday football game as well. After being seated a friendly waitress came over with water and chips with salsa while we looked at the menu. I had a Pacifico beer and decided on the Carne Asada platter. It came with a side of rice and beans. The steak was flavorful and prepared medium just like I ordered. There are restaurants that disappoint you, and then there are restaurants that rob you. Soluna Cocina + Tequila Bar in Elkridge robbed me of a rare solo night out, robbed me of what was once a genuinely transcendent ceviche, and very nearly robbed me of my will to ever sit at a bar again. I want the two hours back. What I cannot get back is the faith I once had in this place, and that is the part that stings. Let me be fair, because I was raised right. When Soluna first opened, I went three times in quick succession. There were the expected growing pains, missing menu items, management finding its footing. Fine. They got the pass new restaurants deserve. What kept me coming back was the ceviche, a dish so good that Hemingway would have written the novel about it rather than the old man and the sea. I am not being hyperbolic. That ceviche was a reason to exist. So when I settled onto my bar stool tonight, two years removed from my last visit, I ordered with confidence. A spicy margarita and the ceviche. The room was still lively and packed and beautiful in that obligatory yuppie Latin watering hole way that Soluna has always done well. The menu still shows ambition, and when a place puts duck confit on the menu, it is telling you it knows how to cook. I believed them. I was wrong. The chips arrived first, and I will give credit where it is due: they know how to fry a corn tortilla. Bravo. Genuinely. Hang that on the wall. The Pico de Gallo was calling it average is honestly doing it a favor. Boring. Flat. The kind of thing that exists purely to give your hands something to do while you wait. Meh is too generous a word, but it is the most accurate one I have. The margarita arrived next, courtesy of a bartender who treated delivery as her final act before entering witness protection. What was described on the menu as spicy tasted primarily of cumin-infused tequila with a sugar rim, which is not a spicy margarita, it is a confused one. She set it down and vanished with the completeness of a magic trick, never to return for the remainder of my evening. Then came the ceviche. Presented in a large, oversized wine glass that screamed "we are a serious establishment" while the contents whispered absolutely nothing at all. The fish had been marinated for the right amount of time, I will give them that, and the shrimp had been pre-cooked, which at least spared them from being gummy. But there was no salt. No pepper. No real citrus personality. Just the ghost of some bottled lime juice and a prayer from an atheist, which is to say, the prayer meant nothing, and neither did the ceviche. I spent the next several minutes doing what no diner should ever have to do, which is attempting to rescue a dish they ordered in good faith. I flagged down someone else's bartender and got hot sauce. I tried everything short of crying into it, and none of it mattered. I have eaten ceviche in places that would make Soluna's kitchen staff weep with shame, and I have never, not once in my life, left a ceviche unfinished. Tonight was the first time. I pushed it to the edge of the bar and told whoever walked close enough to hear me that it was tasteless and they could take it away. What happened next is the part that should embarrass this restaurant most. I wanted to give them another chance. I genuinely did. I wanted to order something else, try another drink, see if the kitchen had anything left to offer before I wrote the whole night off. But I could not, because nobody came back. Not once. I sat there for nearly fifteen minutes watching the staff move through a packed room with the focused energy of people who had somewhere very important to be, and that place was apparently anywhere other than in front of me. A full restaurant, a willing customer, and not one person who could be bothered to ask if I needed anything else. The bar stool was occupied. The wallet was open. The answer was silence. So I got up, walked to the hostess stand, told a confused young woman I was done, and left. The manager, apparently no stranger to this particular conversation, comped the meal. It was a generous gesture, and I mean it when I say this: next time, I would rather pay and have something worth eating. This is what Soluna Cocina has become: a beautiful room serving the memory of a restaurant that used to deserve it. Do better. Or don't. At this point I genuinely cannot tell if anyone there cares either way. read more

We stopped by on a Saturday night to see if the restaurant was worth the hype. I will say that I was pleased with my experience. For starters we got the Soluna margarita. I love that this spot has a variety of tequilas. This allows for a unique taste instead of your regular chain patron margarita. The tequila was unique and definitely made this a signature item. We also got the Al Pastor and Asada street tacos. I have another spot I go to that has great street tacos but these did not disappoint. Although they were $5, they were larger than your tradition street tacos and were packed with flavor. Lastly, we got the streak quesadillas. These also did not disappoint. However, they charge an additional $2 for onions and peppers which I think should be standard in a quesadilla. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The music and tv's also gave the establishment a chill vibe. Lastly, we did not order the fajitas but saw several others order and I want to come back specifically for that. The amount of heat/steam and char flavor that filled the air has me confident that they will not disappointment. All in all, I think you should give this place a shot. read more

Tl;dr We spent around$150 on our combined (2) tabs due to shift changes, DO NOT RECOMMEND DUE TO BAD SERVICE QUALITY. When my husband and I first arrived, we got a drink each, and an appetizer each, he had queso and I had the ceviche. Both were very good. Fast forward to the point where we're finishing drink #2 , and there is a shift change. We close out our tab when asked by our bartender as to keep things concise on their end. The second bartender comes on shift, she doesn't check in with us for about 35 min. Once she finally checks in, we were able to put in third drink request. We heard the couple next to us request to be moved to a table top due to lack of service, which we were experiencing as well. She comes back with third drink request and then asks me what I would like to order-- I respond with birria tacos, and a question asking to sub out the beans with chips and salsa. She ensured that she could sub out for chips and salsa. Where this takes a turn is , she never once turned to my husband and asked him what his order could be. Tried this place tonight with my family of 4. Nice vibes and friendly people but the food was flat out terrible and extremely overpriced. We got nachos (soggy and drowned in this red tasteless salsa) 2 kids meals (toddler quesadillas very tiny) and 2 fajitas. Everything came out so fast and that was a big red flag. It's almost like everything was prepped and nothing made fresh. The 3 shrimp had no color or fajita sear, the chicken was dry and the steak was ok as it was all under so much onions and peppers no joke probably less than 6oz of meat total. The tortillas were terribly chewy like they weren't fully heated up. To pay 150 we were very disappointed in the food because everything looked and smelled great when we walked in. Located where Mutiny used to be, Soluna offers a pretty standard Americanized Mexican dining experience and I don't mean that in a negative way. The prices on the menu felt pretty reasonable especially compared to some of its competitors and the food was good. I opted for the house margarita ($10) and it a well-balanced drink with a generous portion size. The salt presentation was a bit messy, but that's just nitpicking. For food, I chose the pescado tacos (served with rice and beans included) for $18. Note: there are street tacos too that you can order a la carte, but those don't come with rice/beans. The tacos had good flavor and were cooked very well. I would've loved to see a bit more filling (maybe onions, salsa, or something to add to the taco itself). Overall a very positive experience. The ambiance was new and vibrant. The venue is beautiful with lots of cool art around. All of the staff we interacted with was very kind. For context, we went around 5:00 on a Wednesday, so not too busy. Would recommend! read more
