Parents beware before making a deposit!…read more We got on the wait-list 8 months in advance for the infant room, and were told we were first on the list. I planned accordingly to return to work after a limited maternity leave. Less than a month before the expected start date, Lauren, the assistant director, emailed, casually mentioning that there wouldn't be space until 2 months later. We scrambled to make things work, and as we stayed in communication with them, they later postponed the start date ANOTHER 2 months. We ultimately had to scramble to find another center to enroll in at the last minute. I don't know whose job gives them the flexibility to take an extra 4 months of maternity leave. Definitely not mine. Despite not being able to honor the agreed start date, the center has REFUSED to refund our wait list deposit. Maybe this was an unreasonable response to an honest accident. Maybe it was an intentional act to manipulate us into making a deposit last year when they knew they would not be able to meet our needs. I'm not sure. But either way, I feel taken advantage of by people who I was ready to trust with the most important task of caring for my child. After this experience, I would not plan to enroll my baby here even if the space did open up, after seeing how poorly we were treated. I would not trust them to appropriately care for my child. To other parents and parents-to-be, if you are expecting reliable childcare to be available when you need it, I would look elsewhere. Please proceed with caution and at minimum, have a solid backup plan that you can enact at short notice for an extended period!

My youngest had the hardest time with separation, but his teachers made the transition so smooth that now he asks to see his first two teachers everyday and he walks in with no tears. My oldest two always come home with so many stories and love talking about the friends they have made. We definitely made the right choice when choosing Grand Ave for our childcare.

So we did not end up sending our baby here…read more But nonetheless, I wanted to take this opportunity to write a great recommendation for Nikki and the rest of the staff. Earlier this year, we were looking for a daycare solution for our six month old. We heard great reviews, and so we came by for an in person tour and paid a deposit here. The staff was so welcoming, and it was evident that they really cared about taking good care of the kids. Additionally, there coronavirus protocols were spot on. They took great care to enforce a 100% masking policy, and it sounds like the vast majority of the staff had also been vaccinated. I loved that even though it looked like a commercial building instead of a school, they had different rooms for the different aged kids, kitchens, security cameras EVERYWHERE, and even outdoor space. We felt welcomed and Nikki answered every question we could have possibly had. Another endorsement is that she sends her own kids there! Anyway - we wish things would've worked out - it's purely a matter of distance and proximity - but we would've been thrilled to send our kid here. Thanks Nikki and the team!

We enrolled our son at Kiddie Academy of Darien nearly a year in advance while I was pregnant…read morebecause we knew how competitive childcare openings are in the area. We completed the enrollment agreement, paid the enrollment fee, signed all required paperwork, and received written confirmation that his enrollment was finalized with a scheduled start date of August 17, 2026. As we got closer to his start date, I reached out to introduce our son and check on the waitlist for an earlier opening. That conversation is when I learned that our confirmed August start date had been pushed back several months. I was told an email had been sent months earlier, but our family had somehow been left off the distribution list. Here's what makes this unacceptable: no one ever contacted us to let us know our confirmed enrollment had changed. We only found out because I reached out. Had I not, we would have continued planning our return to work under the assumption that our son was starting in August. I emailed both the center director and management outlining my concerns and asking for a resolution. I followed up when I received no response. Neither email was ever acknowledged. Instead, the only communication we received was an automated message informing us that Lucas's start date had been changed AGAIN. Mistakes happen. Ignoring families after those mistakes happen is a choice. Childcare is one of the biggest decisions parents make. Families arrange maternity leave, work schedules, and finances around confirmed enrollment dates. The complete lack of communication and accountability throughout this process was incredibly disappointing. Thankfully, we found another daycare that welcomed our son sooner and has been proactive, organized, and communicative from day one. Looking back, I'm grateful this happened before our son ever started because it showed us exactly how communication is handled when something goes wrong. If you're considering Kiddie Academy of Darien, I would encourage you to look at the many other excellent daycare options in the area before making your decision.

Absolutely phenomenal preschool!!!…read more We have been with Kensington Highlands for the past three years, since our daughter turned 2.5 yo until now, 5.5yo. Btw, when searching for the preschool originally, I followed our pediatrician recommendation, who had all her three kids at Kensington Highlands. And it has been an amazing experience for our family! Rich curriculum, amazing programs, field trips, organic food and, as one person has already mentioned, humongous backyard where kids spend all summer long playing, splashing, riding, running or enjoying occasional snacks. But what is truly impressive - it's Kensington teachers and staff family. Yes, they are teaching standard curriculum, and yes, most kids get a huge head start, easily plowing through KG or even sometimes through 1st grade books by the end of the preschool. But the most valuable, IMHO, is that warmth, wholehearted and positive attitude, respect and love that kids get every single day, for years! I'll mention just a few examples: kids would constantly get handmade gifts and toys from Miss S. Well made, well thought, unique gifts, the ones you might get from your beloved Auntie or GrandMa. Or those festive special programs, which teachers and kids would practice for months and then perform in front of their families and friends, that would always bring smiles and tears of joy. (Damn Covid, our Graduation Program, Wizard of Oz, was cancelled) We LOVE you Kensington teachers!!! And will definitely miss you when the time comes to say good bye. As to bad experience, I frankly, don't have much to say. Yes, once I picked up our daughter with a diaper rash, and that's how we learned that she was not fine with acidic food at that age. Then recently Kensington expended and built a new location in Hinsdale, and we, Highlands, went through a couple of new directors just in the matter of months, but from our family perspective, the transition was very smooth. Overall, highly recommend! Solid five stars, Kensington family!
