During my week stay in Montreal, I had such a fun night dancing here with my friends. Having been previously trapped at my small school with its terrible party scene, it was such a refreshing experience to finally go out to a club in a city, especially one that is clearly geared towards college students. Being able to dance with such a diverse array of people to such fun music, and doing this all with friends -- it's great! Drinks were decent, music was fun, and lots of people started filing in later in the night, a little bit after we entered. We definitely felt like we started the party. Have you ever gotten spanked by a stranger? If it's consensual, then it's totally okay! Unfortunately for me, that was not the case. As for typical party behavior, I usually pull friends away from men who get a little too close without asking for permission. So while on the dance floor, I had to slide in between my friend and some strange man who was trying to dance with her. This man was however impressed by my nerve to dance in front of him that he started slapping my butt, yelling, "right on!" I don't know what to make of that. I laughed it off at the time, and I still laugh about it. Nevertheless, I implore you all to not be a creepy guy at a party. If you have been cooped up at your small liberal arts college for the school year and want to see what partying can be like, come stop by here! read more

The bouncers at this club are incredibly rude and on a power trip. Me and my friends were outside with a bottle, not trying to bring it in and not even drinking it. And the bouncers came and took it away without any explanation and any authority. We tried to ask them why they took it and they just told us to "call the cops if we want it back." We were not trying to fight some bouncers so we just gave up and went back inside. When we were leaving, we asked very politely to have the bottle back and when they said no, we asked for an explanation again and they just laughed in our faces and eventually taunted us by dumping the bottle out on the floor of their own club. They continued to be rude, demeaning and trying to put us through a power trip. Me and my friend finally left after receiving no explanation, and one of the bouncers started walking in the same direction as us, again what I assume to be some weird power trip. Do not go here, this club has fallen off. It's super lame and if you have any kind of problem you will not get any support from the staff. read more

Summary: young crowd, great music, cheap drinks. On my 2nd night in Montreal, I wandered around Saint Laurent Blvd, resigned to the fact that every place had a line of people 20 deep waiting to get in. I walked off the beaten path for a half block and somehow wound up at Cafe Campus, attracted initially by the booming reggaeton I could hear from the street. This place also had a line, but it was much shorter than the comparable places on the main strip. I was quickly ushered inside, having to pay a nominal cover fee (can't remember but it was less than $10CAD I think). The party is up the stairs - medium sized dance floor flanked by a couple of bars on the outside, and a main DJ booth at the front. The DJ was on point! Best music I heard while in Montreal - seamlessly mixing through 90s hip hop (great!), current hip hop (*cough* trash), EDM, Latin...everyone was dancing. Drinks were relatively cheap, and more importantly CASH ONLY. I didn't stay the whole night as the place got progressively more and more crowded, but I definitely enjoyed my time there. read more

This place looked dope on the outside. We walked up and saw people on the first floor. Maybe got excited because we saw it was lovely. Went inside and was met with a $7 cover cash charge. Paid because other places were charging a higher cover. Once inside, we had to wait at a second line where we were charged for coat check. Not cool. Once charges were paid, we walked into the top dance floor. Poor selection of beer and hard liquor. Paid to get a Budweiser. I've never paid for such garbage beer in my life. Once I had a beer in hand, I headed to the dance floor. It was crowded and the music was lively. There were many Americans. You can tell everyone fell for the Thrillist article scam. Many tourists frequent this spot. Overall, charges and alcohol selection was detrimental to the experience. Music was modern American rap and he dance floor was full of American tourists celebrating their 18th bday. Not authentic. read more

I'm so old that I remember when Cafe Campus used to be located on Queen Mary many moons ago. Local residents complained about the noise and thus somewhere in the early 1990s, they relocated to Prince Arthur. In the 1970s it was a big disco and glam rock place. In the 1980s, they used to play a lot of British New Wave, post-punk and alternative. In the 1990s, it moved towards grunge. I've seen bands like Lush, Slowdive, Elastica and Love and Rockets here. The place is huge and these days, full of students, cheap booze but the music isn't that great anymore. They should have more nostalgia nights. read more

I wasn't really sure about this place when I read what others were saying about it. It didn't really sound like my type of place. But this is where the conference was having their 'after-party' and so I went along without high expectations. It was really quite a good time! It does have a bit of a gungy vibe to it, but that fit it well. It is a nice venue but since most of the other people there at the time were conference attendees I can't speak to the usual clientele of the place. I did notice on the way out that the queue was mostly younger but I could stand that as the venue is nice and cover is relatively cheap. Drink prices were relatively cheap as well so you can get well tipsy without breaking the bank. read more

If you want to be robbed, screamed at, and violently escorted out for politely asking for your American $20 back instead of a Canadian one because you decided against going upstairs to the bar then go here! I'm a 5 foot 1 girl and a massive bouncer lifted me up and escorted me out for asking for my money back considering I wasn't going inside. I've never felt so violated this place is awful. read more

Disclosures: this is the first and only nightclub I've been to and I was not a big fan of nightclubs to start with, so I won't be able to compare. This is just my impression. When me and my 3 friends got there around 2am on Saturday, we waited outside for about 5-10min and paid a 6$ cover charge each. The cover charge wasn't indicated anywhere. We were only told how much it was at the door. Inside, theres a mandatory coat check that cost 1.50$. The bar had almost no wait time. A shot was 4$ each or 12$ for 5. The music was a reasonable volume and the dance floor was fairly large. The music consists of clichéd club music from the 2000s. Actually, I feel like the entire place is a big cliché. It seemed very sleazy to me. Guys kept grabbing me or my friends and honestly, we were wearing jeans and t-shirts with big winter boots (it was an impromptu stop). In fact, the whole thing felt gross and kind of immature. The place itself was a little dingy, but maybe that was the feel they were going for. I made the mistake of putting my hand on a table and it was covered with about a 2cm of sticky liquid. One of the things I did like is that on the second floor, theres a lot less people and you can sit there, take a break and watch the dancers situated on the first floor. All in all, I really didn't enjoy my experience, but I'm not certain whether that's because of this particular place or if it's because I'm just not made for nightclubs. read more

Great college-student vibe!! My friend and I came here on a Friday night, $7 cover fee which is pretty good for downtown mtl. $3 coat check fee which was pretty annoying but definitely worth it since it gets crowded and warm in this place fast Got really busy around midnight. The DJ was amazing!!! Mix of some 90 hip hop as well as Latin and classic club songs, definitely had a lot of fun. The only thing I would warn other girls- the guys in here tend to be grabby. If you're dancing you'll probably feel a hand grabbing on your waist trying to grind with you. Just a heads up but there's plenty of seats all around if you wanna take a break too!! I often go there on Tuesday where the pitcher is at 5$. It's certainly not a top notch place, but for what you're paying it's all right. You mostly have the international students from France going to this place... I have to say it's not very classy, I've seen some pretty odd things there, but it's a good place to go to with your friends to drink and have a good time. I always have a good story to tell. For the music... ehh it could and should be better... Basically, you want to go there for the cheap beer. read more

This review is based on attending the Impro Musicale event which happens on the first Thursday night of each month, http://limm.ca/ My first impression: a LOT of stairs. If you're a sweet young thing looking to dance the night away, not a problem. But if you have a physical disability, good luck. There are railings for all except the outside stairs. My second impression: a friendly crowd. There were lots of student-aged folks but enough older people (we are in our late 30s) that we didn't stand out. It was a "have a beer or two" vibe. My third impression: a smoothly-run event. The event started on time, moved quickly between elements, and had great participation from the audience. The LIMM sets up a battle between two bands, improvising within a set style with certain constraints to tell a story, much like improv sketch comedy. The audience votes for the winner of each improvisation and has the chance to contribute ideas. And FUN! It was so much fun. The musicians had a lot of talent and imagination. If you like music in any way, you will have a blast. read more

What an amazing and at the same time terrible place! Go to Café Campus - only on a Tuesday - if you want the craziest night what-so-ever. People get super drunk as you can have a 5 $ pitcher of "beer" (no specific kind of beer, no brand, just beer - yup, that is guaranteed quality).... But this place is so much fun. Every Tuesday, people from HEC invade this place and dance to old music all night long - all the classics starting from the 50s and moving upwards in time as the night proceeds. Cafe Campus is a student club, and a crazy one at that. I like this place because it's down to earth - drinks are cheap, people are chill. Yup, it's all good here. I chose to go here on a Tuesday night, which was highly recommended here on Yelp. A pitcher of beer cost $6 and filled up four cups, and the rest of the drinks were really reasonably priced. Maybe I didn't get the 80s and 90s music memo, or maybe I didn't stay long enough to hear the rest, but it was lame and came up really short on my standards of good club music. Don't arrive before 11, or you will be awkwardly met with a couple other bystanders waiting around for something exciting to start. Campus has a couple different floors with different stages of different sizes, all with totally different vibes depending on the night. Like lots of great places in Quebec Campus is run as a coop - ie; it's co-owned by the staff and all members and it's run with a decidedly community-oriented vibe, participating in most festivals that happen in this fest-craaazy town. The decor is kind of black box industrial, not in an aggressive way, just in a way that allows it to be a blank slate for whatever is going on. I've seen exceptional singer-songwriters here, British girl groups, press conferences and massive variety shows. Anything goes, including straight up dance party. Check what's on the schedule and if something strikes your fancy don't hesitate to support this rad local institution. read more

Young crowd, mostly freshman/sophomore in college and then of course the random older "dudes" that infest a club with a cheap cover. The layout is interested, for there is a small dance floor but platforms to climb up and dance on. The lighting is cool and electric, and the smokiness that envelopes the dance floor is really fun! But i can't say my experience was any better than any other average club in this area. Side note though, if you're a girl perhaps looking for a fun girls night out or to not get groped and touched while on the dance floor by older men that don't respect your space then don't go here! I really like cafe campus, it has a laid-back, casual (almost grungy) vibe to it. Whenever I'm in Montreal I try to make a stop here just for tradition's sake. i went there yesterday. because the concept of the event caught my eyes ( retour vers le futur ) 50s 80s and then present music etc... i went there early just to witness the oldies part but i was so disappointed about the choice of songs and about the mood in there. for the present part it was average. + one of the baristas was rude asking my friend for a tip for handing her a beer ! like WTH? it's my first time trying café campus. overall 3stars is my honest review but i don't think it's worth going back. read more

What a joke! They played backstreet boys and Will Smith's getting jiggly with it. The smoke machine pretty much suffocates anyone remotely close to the front of the dance floor. Drink prices were the only good thing about this place. I realize there is a possibility it could have been 90s night, but there were way better songs back then to dance to than what was playing. The 2nd star comes in because the DJ actually took requests unlike other DJs. The venue is quite large and has the potential to be bangin. They would have to cease with the smoke and ensure a better line up. 4 stars for potential, 2 stars for my experience there. read more

This is kinda an odd shaped venue. It was a pretty crowded event on 4/20/14 so i stood in the back near the bar and could only see like half of the stage. I've only been to this multistory carpark of a nightclub once when visiting my brother at uni. I have to say that my experience was nothing less than extraordinary! The floors were sweaty, my knees were weak and my arms were heavy (there was vomit on someones shirt already, but the effective bouncers saw to that) ... it could have been something to do with the large quantities of surprisingly well priced drinks, which although i had to queue for (no bother for me as a brit) left me absolutely gazebo'd and wanting more. The tunes were 10/10 and made me feel 14 again and full of life. Necked on with one of my bros 18 year old mates, scarring him for life, and making the night that much funnier. Dont remember how/when i got home but know i thoroughly enjoyed myself. 11/10 would probably go again (if im ever allowed back in the country... Covid19 ruining everyones fun). Only downstairs is the unbelievable amount of stairs, but youve got to burn the calories somehow right? read more

I went to Café Campus with around 15 other international students from Boston. We had a good time in the club dancing with each other as a group on a little stage at the dance floor. Around 2am a bouncer came up to me, pulled my arm towards the exit and said I had to leave the club. When we got to the stairs I asked him politely why I had to leave. He said that he had received complaints from three different girls about me being sexually assaulting to them... I had only been with my friends the whole night, so I couldn't possibly have insulted anyone... I tried to ask him whether he could point me in the direction of just one of the girls, so I could prove that it wasn't me, but he didn't care and continued pushing me out of the club. Apart from the embarrassment of being dragged out from the club while being called a sexual offender, I was completely unfairly treated and didn't received the service I paid for. I can see that I'm not the only one that has been treated badly by the bouncers at this club (from other reviews of this place), so it seems like this is a common problem at the club. Very rapey. I came in with my girlfriends and as soon as we got there we noticed creepy guys watching us dance from the sides. When the place filled up, guys were constantly trying to grind on us and wouldn't take no for an answer. Spent the night trying to avoid them. DJ was ok- songs were hit or miss. Worst music venue. Doors opened at 7:30 and we got in at 8:45 having stood in line for 75 minutes. Thus missing half of Johnny Flynn's opening act. Sound system was terrible. I'm a sucker for decades music so, on a quiet Tuesday night, I decided to spice some things up. Not being from Montreal ( my friend and I are coming from Vancouver) we like to ask the locals on their opinions of certain places. Cafe campus had very mixed reviews so I decided to check it out for my self. And it was quite the experience to say the least. Upon our arrival, the kids in the line ( notice how I don't say people) look way too young to be out at that time ( okay it was only 11). But anyways, cover was only 2 dollars because we got there before 11. Walking in we were bombarded with suffocating smoke and extremely drunk girls. Again, of which whom looked too young and innocent. It almost seemed like they were presented with alcohol for the first time. SUPER cheap drinks, I'm talking 5 dollars for a pitcher, but absolutely shitty service. I usually tip at the end of the night, but the bartender said, and I quote " you need to tip here when you get a drink". I laughed ad gave her a much better tip then she deserved. The people were VERY young, or maybe just acted very young, and the guys were there on a mission. My friend and i got two pitchers so we were forced to stay there longer then we had liked. But I digress, go to cafe campus with a big group of friends if you like to get plastered and dance (you would need to be super drunk to have fun) and don't mind dirty whispers from complete strangers, but if you're looking for more of a mature and relaxed setting STAY AWAY. read more
