I figured I'd give Cafe Jennie a try while I was back at Cornell for Reunion Weekend. Since many places were closed, I needed a quick lunch to hold me over until dinner several hours later. I ended up getting a pre-packaged chef salad and a black coffee, and both hit the spot. The salad was fresh, satisfying, and exactly what I needed before a busy afternoon of reunion activities. As an added bonus, we received 10% off, which was a nice little perk. The staff was friendly, and the café was convenient and welcoming. Next time I'm back on campus, I'd love to try one of their homemade offerings. For a quick and easy lunch stop, it worked out perfectly. And we had enough seats for our group. When I think of Café Jennie, the first thing that comes to mind is their desserts and baked goods. They offer a delightful variety of sweet snacks, including brownies (with a variety of combinations) and macarons--a rare find on campus. I've tried their sandwiches before, and while they're decent, they can be a bit on the dry side. The salads, however, are fantastic! Personally, I prefer the sandwiches at Goldie's. Café Jennie is located on the second floor of the Cornell Store, in a beautifully well-lit area with plenty of natural light. Finding seating can be a challenge since it fills up quickly, and it's easy to see why. Sitting here makes me a thousand times more productive for some reason. It's definitely one of the prettier cafes on campus, though I still think Goldie's ambiance is superior. I give Café Jennie 4 stars for their impressive variety. If you have a sweet tooth, you'll find plenty to satisfy your cravings! read more

Cafe Jennie's is a Cornell classic. The space itself is great-when it isn't crowded. There's lots of natural light and it is pretty clean, so a great place to hang out or get work done. The food is excellent. I've tried a few things and I have yet to be disappointed. It is pretty quick to be prepared as well. The one downside is that it can get pretty crowded at peak times, so ordering takes a long time and you won't find anywhere to sit. read more

Stopped in for lunch during our college visit Cornell day. Convenient location on the bookstore for those needing to get to the next activity. Nice food selection. My son ordered a large bowl of the clam chowder for just $3.99 - a deal! I scored a taste and it was terrific. A great bowl of clam chowder; I kind of wish I'd ordered it, too! I ordered the Brazilian Chicken wrap. Tasty and satisfying. My only complaint was the spring mix of lettuce in the wrap didn't cut/separate well when I bit into the wrap making for less graceful eating. ;-) Insignificant overall. They had a nice fresh fruit salad as well which we split in addition to our meal. Seating is limited. It was a crowded weekend and we were lucky to snag a table. read more

Best things on the menu: the chicken milano (INCREDIBLE) and cappucino macarons. I prefer the Peet's coffee drinks they sell over all the Starbucks-serving cafes on campus. It's much less sweet, and they're constantly coming out with new interesting flavors. The new holiday drink-- Dark Chocolate Orange Mocha is also worth getting. If you can find a spot, it's a lovely place to get work done too. read more

It is above my expectation. I had an illusion that I was not sitting in a campus cafe, with an amicable server taking to me my Beef Brisket Sandwich on a porcelain plate with real silverwares. They make their sandwich so exquisite. Bread is very special, crisp on the outer side, soft and punky on the inner side, milk/cream sweet scented, different from what I have had in other cafés, making me believe it is fresh handmade in store this morning. (They did claim to bake their jam filled croissants every morning in store.) Beef is tender, seasoned with grilled onion and cheddar. Sided with carefully laid garden green, onion and blue cheese. We all know blue cheese and beef are good match. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but the first-date couple at next table were so cute. ^_^ At least now I know American look the same as Chinese on their first date. The boy said this place was 30% overpriced, which I cannot agree. Can you find a more pleasant and economic place for you very first date? $7 for a sandwich. read more

The macarons here are pretty good. It's not amazing amazing, but if you're craving for macarons and you're on Cornell's campus, this isn't a bad option. It is quite pricey though, so hopefully it isn't a common craving you have. read more

On the plus side (and there are many)--the Peet's coffee is great and they have quality desserts and baked goods. It's also a nice space with a fair amount of seating and good lighting. On the down side, I've now tried three different sandwiches and they were all quite bad. They seem bad by design. It seems like they are pre-made then heated when you order. So a Ginger Salmon wrap has a dry, overcooked piece of salmon and sad, warm lettuce. It comes with a citrus sauce in a plastic cup, which is okay, not great (and how do you get the sauce inside the wrap without unrolling the whole thing?). Also a side salad that is ice cold, overdressed, and soggy. The roasted vegetable panini is truly odd--it features a big glob of mashed sweet potatoes. (And I'm someone who loves sweet potatoes.) They weren't heated enough so they were almost cold and they fall out when you take a bite of the sandwich. And it's not really a panini--more of a lukewarm roll, squished just a bit. So go for the coffee with a macaron (the macarons are fantastic). Try the soup. But stay away from the sandwiches. read more

This neat little cafe is conveniently located inside the Cornell Store. It has a variety of sandwiches and pastries and serves Peet's Coffee. I love their Matcha Green Tea Javiva. It's kind of like slushy green tea ice cream smoothie. This place is usually packed throughout the day especially during lunch. Lots of students like studying here so it might be difficult to find a good seat. However, this is a great place to go if you want to chat with someone. I met up with a professor here for coffee one afternoon and it was great! read more

Surprisingly good place for a lunch break. I didn't realize a salad came with the sandwiches, and the sandwiches themselves were quite filling. Our food came on nice plates, with real silverware and thick napkins. I ordered a turkey BLT on a croissant and it was much bigger than I imagined it would be, with generous amounts of avocado and thick turkey slices. Unfortunately, my husband's chicken Thai wrap was very under-seasoned (I ate a little of his to confirm this). Service was prompt and friendly. Be sure to clean your plates and return them with the silverware after your meal. Exploring the college store afterwards was fun. read more

This is high quality for Cornell's campus, and may be the best eatery on its grounds. Sandwiches are relatively creative in composition and actually served to your table. It may be the only place that serves Peet's coffee in Ithaca, which is delicious (while the local roasteries are good, it's hard not to welcome the variety). The atmosphere is fairly cozy and there are books and magazines available to browse from the surrounding Cornell Store. Downsides: it is a bit pricey compared to other Cornell dining options, and I get the sense that the sandwiches aren't as good as they seemed when I first tried them - though that may just be me getting used to the taste. read more
