Eh... ...Einstein hung out here, but the modern genius can use Yelp! to find a better restaurant. You know that feeling you get at a nice sit-down place when your order comes out too quickly? Had the beef with cream sauce, cranberry and dumplings, pretty unexciting. Dumplings were boring bread slices and meat was pretty minimal. This was the first restaurant in Prague where I felt like they wanted to rush me out. I've had great meals here, but unfortunately this one was a disappointment.
Came June 23rd, 2025 so it was HOT with no AC. I ordered the French Breakfast and was a big fan of the goose liver pâté with cranberries! My first time having a breakfast like this and I was not disappointed. The cheese with croissant and pâté were fantastic. Lots of history at this place as well My boyfriend ordered one of the combos (i forgot the name) but it came with avocado toast, yogurt with granola and some sort of fruit. Very filling breakfast. The OJ was fresh as well. Had to flag down our waitress a few times to get the bill to begin our day but other than that, everything else was great!
This is the perfect place for breakfast, but you have to get there earlier. We waited at opening time, and got seated at once. Environment is excellent and relaxing, along with coffee and food, a good place to let time pass by. The rich history of the cafe makes it even more interesting, starting from 1902, their famous guests include Karel Čapek, Albert Einstein, and Franz Kafka. We ordered FRENCH BREAKFAST, and I think it was one of the best breakfast that I ever had. The freshly squeezed orange juice was very fresh, my favorite part was the delicate homemade goose liver pâté with cranberries, I put them on the fresh croissant, it's so delicious and creamy that I can remember it for long time.
So this is a very old vintage restaurant in Prague. On our trip we had researched about best place to eat and finding good reviews we went there. And so glad we went, we came out with full tummies and also heart. Line was a bit long but fast moving. We got a table in ten mins and the person who helped us gave us fantastic recommendations as to what to eat. Once order was placed food was served soon and was so fresh and hot , exactly what we needed on a cold afternoon. Rates were not exorbitant and quality and portion was amazing. We would surely visit this place if we visit Prague again. They do have vegetarian options and amazing desserts.
Café Louvre was another recommendation from our VRBO host, but it was also on my list of places to try after reading about the history this place since opening in 1902. They do price themselves on "preserving the old café traditions." There is a very big French influence in the decor. This cafe's frequented by Franz Kafka, Albert Einstein and T. G. Masaryk back in the day. While we were still full from breakfast, it was a nice break after walking the Vysehrad and viewing the Tančící dům (or dancing houses). It was just after noon when we walked in and the place was crowded but the wait was just a few minutes for a table, and we were seated at the far end of the restaurant. We relaxed, read the history of the cafe AB's looked at the menu, ordering two 0.5l of Bernard 11° lager. It had been only a few hours since breakfast and while we got in about 2.5 miles of walking, we decided on the avokádove chelbíčky out avocado sandwiches and the twplý jablečný závin or warm apple strudel. In fact the entire menu looked great with the slow braised beef shank goulash and braised beef with cream sauce being top on my list. Recommended? Yes, very much so. Even when it was busy, it didn't feel as such. We were seated quickly, and our server was very attentive, providing recommendations. Great cafe to pop in for a meal or just an afternoon snack or drinks.
The waffle here was unforgettable . It was light, crisp, and full of flavor. I've been back home for weeks and I'm still thinking about it. The coffee didn't wow me but the place is gorgeous with old school charm and big airy rooms.
The restaurant is located on the third floor. You can go to the side with reservations or the side to seat yourself. There were plenty of tables available on a weekday dinner time. The restaurant is very clean and pretty. My favorite dish was the fried turkey chops! It included the potato salad which was super delicious! Slices of potato in the salad was very different than other potato salads I had before. The flavoring was tasty. The beef in the Goulash was more on the dry side for me. It was okay. Service was great! Very attentive staff!!
I'm sure it was great! I understand it's a very popular place and an institution of the area but I couldn't wait to move on. Nothing bad but bland flavors and bland service and bland interior.
The restaurant was easy to find and walk into--located on the third floor, it's a convenient spot to grab a meal. The interior is very nice and classic. The order: * Oranzada * Náše lemonáda * Large beef goulash * Fried turkey chops with sesame bread crumbs The good: The food was reasonably priced, making it a solid choice for trying Czech cuisine without breaking the bank. The fried turkey chops were the highlight--crispy, well-seasoned, and enjoyable. The bad: The beef goulash was skippable--nothing particularly memorable about it. The drinks were pretty mid, nothing outstanding.
Ambiance was amazing, the building itself was very very pretty and the views were good. My omelette however was not satisfactory and really felt more of just a pile of poorly scrambled eggs. I have had a friend tell me she went here and it was great so I would have to say just order something different :) They also have a pet chameleon that was very adorable to admire.
We had a reservation so we were seated on the dining side of the restaurant which is a little nicer and intimate for couples. The food was pretty good. The Venison Ragout was cooked nicely and the Svičková was tasty. The service is not something I'm used to. They take your order and then don't really check on you very much so if you need something you have to flag your server down. Wasn't the most friendly or accommodating, but still professional.
very cool cafe with a rich history! i would definitely recommend learning about this place before you go. Its beautiful and unchanged inside! i had the espresso and the apple merengue pie, and both were pretty good. The staff were all friendly and helpful too! You should definitely go early- we went at 9 and didn't have much of a line, but it was crazy when we left and 10:30
Great service. Quaint atmosphere. Not too noisy. We lucked out and found a seat right away for a small late lunch + treats. We split the club sandwich and a piece of Louvre cheesecake. I also ordered a decadent cafe Louvre hot chocolate. Petite, rich, and fabulous to sip slowly while soaking in the cafe atmosphere. The club sandwich comes with sliced hard boiled egg, which I requested in the side. It's a substantial, triple decker sandwich- perfect for sharing. Tasted good, too! The cheesecake has thick slices of peaches baked inside. The texture of the cheesecake is lighter and less dense than I'm used to but it tasted wonderful. What a treat to dine here!
We enjoyed a traditional Czech dinner at this old world Cafe. Beautiful, packed with locals and possibly tourist. I loved the Beef Goulash, my wife a zucchini fritter that reminded her of her mom and Italy!! Excellent service!! read more

We had high hopes for Cafe Louvre based on several great reviews but we were not impressed with the entree we ordered. We ordered the chicken in pepper cream sauce with spaetzle. The pepper cream sauce was good. It was similar to a red pepper coulis. The spaetzle were bland. it was just plain ol' spaetzle. The reason for the lower score was the actual chicken. I don't know how they prepared it but the texture of the chicken was mealy. It was not pleasant in texture or even taste. The chicken itself was bland. This dish had all the makings of a fabulous entree if just a little more attention to detail and seasonings were used. That said, the wait staff were friendly and attentive. read more

I came here for a late afternoon/early evening snack (6pm) and enjoyed a tirmisu, cappuccino, Irish coffee and two salads. All were delicious but why I docked it a star was because the service could have been better. They handed us menus at 5:45 when we seated and when they came to take our order, we told them the food we wanted and then they said "kitchen doesn't open until 6". Which is fine, but they should have explained to us earlier or at least said, I'll take your order but know that the kitchen doesn't officially open until 6. I did like that they had pool tables in the back and the ambiance of the cafe was nice. It's a cute spot to visit and the food was good, but definitely on the priceier side and service in my opinion could have been nicer. read more

The dumpling soup was a little thin and lacking, though for the cheap price paid had made sense. The liver chunks were tender and chewy, being the highlight of the dish. The goulash was much better, meat tasted fresh and aromatic and the dumpling cooked just right. As for the venue itself, a little gloomy and old, sitting in the inside section. The deco could use with a bit of touch up. In the area I was sitting, two giant windows were open that it stopped anyone from being able to sit in the other side of the table where there was a bench. Service was fast and the staff friendly. read more
If your visiting Prague make sure to add Cafe Louvre to your list of places to visit. Reservations will help as there will be a line. We didn't have for a Saturday morning but it only took about 15 minutes. Once seated you won't be rushed in anyway. Louvre is beautiful inside and has lots of local history. Most people were still dressed very casually. Everyone should order something different so you can share. I had the quiche that came in 2 slices and different flavors of potato and onion and the other spinach and cheese. It doesn't matter if you don't have room for dessert order some anyway! The soft roll stuffed with poppy seed and covered in vanilla cream maybe one of the best desserts I've eaten and I'm a serious chocoholic. Finish off with some hot chocolate and it will be a wonder meal. read more
One of my favorite experiences while traveling in Czech Republic. It just so happened to be on my last day of traveling. What a perfect note to end off on. Everything about this cafe was so classy. I loved the breakfast options they provided, both traditional and new age. I got the salmon pancakes and I couldn't be happier. The salmon was so fresh and I loved that all the toppings were on the side. The breakfast came with a glass of champaign which totally ended everything off with a dazzling note. Prices were fair and they take visa which is so convenient. read more
This review is purely for dessert and I think all three stars are for the amazing hot chocolate and rum drink that I was served. Firstly this place is up a couple of flights of stairs but it's definitely worth sitting down here for a while to relax because it's pretty big inside. I did not have to wait very long and the staff were truly very nice while I was there. I also ordered a slice of the Sacher torte cake but unfortunately it just doesn't do justice to the original Austrian version. It was a bit too dry and not enough apricot to balance the flavors. Again the staff were very much on point and that hot chocolate and rum drink was truly sensational. It is worth a stop for somewhere nice to relax and next time I will have to have some lunch or dinner here too. read more

First place we had dinner in Prague and it really set the tone for all the amazing food to expect in the Czech Republic. The beef carpaccio was exceptional. Can't wait to go back and branch out and try more things on the menu. read more

I enjoyed a brunch experience here after a long walk in the rain. I was happy to be seated at a good sized shared table in the midst of a very busy late Saturday morning. Being a floor above the busy street created a beautiful atmosphere for taking in one of their lovely coffee drinks, or breakfast. The romantic window tables were in high demand, with couples grabbing them up as soon as they opened up. My waiter was kind, efficient and seemed to thrive in the busy atmosphere. His service made for one of the most enjoyable dining experiences in Prague. I've previously had a few dismal experiences here in Prague, so I was happy not to get an eye roll or attitude for attempting to use some Czech words as I ordered. He kept a watchful gaze on the tables in his room without rushing anyone. I even quietly tucked into some journal writing as I finished my cappuccino. Old school elegance that I never tire of. read more

My boyfriend and I had a light breakfast at Cafe Louvre a couple of weeks ago. It was a quick and easy tram ride and very short walk from our hotel. We snagged a table for two right away. I enjoyed a soy latte. I notice everywhere in Praha serves a rather large and often refilled bread basket (no complaints here!) it was delish. I had the weekly special of three soft boiled eggs with cheese atop. These kept me full all day. Service was good and I enjoyed our visit. I'd definitely recommend and plan on returning when I'm back. read more

It's an institution in Prague. Great decor and ambience. An ode to the cafes in Vienna. Go there and you will feel transported to another era. Einstein and Kafka used to visit this café! I got a cappuccino and sacher torte as well as a apple strudel. All the food and drinks were good. But the main thing here is the atmosphere. Great place to spend a lazy afternoon! read more

Nice ambience and actually relaxing atmosphere despite the crowds. We got the roast beef and chicken breast. To be honest, both meats were okay and the portions of the meat were slightly small. The bread dumplings that came with the roast beef were a huge portion and they were good, not great. The chicken came with spaetzle and it was good but again, not great. Both dishes came with a sauce and it was very tasty and came the dishes some flavor!! read more
Such a cute bustling spot- definitely famous by tourists. We came here for a drink and dessert and sat by the window. It was beautiful. I had a nice refreshing beer and shared the large chocolate cake. The cake was very tasty and rich. The other food looked good as well, and the place is very big. Built in 1902, this cafe has served some incredible people in history, including Albert Einstein and Franz Kafka. We came here for brunch during our recent trip to Prague. Our mains were delicious (scrambled eggs, croissant and cheese sandwiches) and desserts (chocolate and black forest cake) were incredible. I loved my coffee as well. During the week, there is no need to make a reservation, but you can for 300 Crowns, which they will deduct from your bill. This place is extremely child friendly, they even provide colored pencils (little known fact: pencils were invented in Prague!) and a place mat for your child to color. Service was friendly and quick. We loved chatting with our friendly waiter. They also sell a variety of souvenirs at reasonable prices for unique gifts or to keep for yourself as a reminder of this fabulous restaurant. read more

Came here for the history as Prague's oldest cafe and the old stomping grounds of Einstein, but found the food just to be average. It was quite busy even on a weekday around 11am, but thankfully we were seated quickly. Also appreciated the separate sections for smokers and nonsmokers. I ordered the cowboy breakfast - eggs and ham that came with the apple meringue pie. Everything was just okay, save for the dessert, which was tasty. In fact, I recommend coming here more for afternoon tea or dessert than breakfast, brunch, or a full meal as you'll likely be disappointed. The cafe is definitely pretty and feels historic, but has now become so touristy that the food is no longer the highlight. read more

Cute spot. They're well known because Kafka and Einstein have dined here. Pretty large space that gets crowded in peak times. I got here around 9:30 am on Saturday and seated myself right away but soon after it filled up and by the time I was leaving around 10:30 there was line at the entrance. Service is fairly quick but servers can be rude and hasty. Maybe they're trying to get people in and out because it does get crowded. The interior is beautiful with nice vintage cushioned seats, and lots of natural lighting. The menu for breakfast is just basic breakfast items: soup, eggs, sausage, etc. I got the hangover special which is goulash and 0.33L of beer. Good, nothing special. It seems cool to come here for the history/background, but if you have limited time in Prague, I suggest many of the other dining establishments known for their food rather than a fun, touristy fact. read more
Our last breakfast in Prague was at The Café Louvre. It's a bright, beautiful upstairs dining hall with windows looking out onto Národni. The café definitely a throwback to a 1900s bygone era when dining was a cultural event, with Café Louvre at the pinnacle of Prague café society. Franz Kafka, Karel Čapek and Albert Einstein all dined here as the placemat duly notes. We weren't sure of how to be seated, with no host or hostess to greet us. Finally we flagged a waitress and she cleared a table for us. The fresh bread was delicious. The Cowboy breakfast was good with 3 fried eggs and bacon/ham cooked in an open face style, I guess as a tribute to cooking in an outdoor campfire with a cast iron frying pan. Cappuccinos were top notch. The food and service were not really memorable, but the beautiful dining room, salon, terrace and ambience definitely made it worth the visit. read more

Would be a five. Took one away for crowdedness & bizarre "stalking" one must do for a table. Yes, you seat yourself. And the restaurant/food/atmosphere causes one to have no desire to leave. Ate here twice. Once was w/ a "foodie" group where we rec'd private dining room & were served traditional meat & dumplings, which are more like bread. Served along w/ a float of toast, whipped cream & jam. YUM. & apple strudel w/ whipped cream & creme anglaise. Our vegetarian was served a beautiful plate of sauced asparagus. (Plz see photo) We enjoyed it so much we returned, alone. Hubby had a lovely chicken dish (see photo) & I, lasagne two ways. Lasagne seems to be popular in Praha. And hubby enjoyed smoking his cigs freely. read more
Up at 7:30am and wanted a good breakfast before heading to Prague Castle. Cafe Louvre was one of the few that 1) were open at 8am and 2) served eggs and such, not just croissants. Besides it was right by our transit stop to castle so off we went. Immediately greeted and sat by a window table. Server came over with menu, lots of choices. Croissants, eggs, cheeses, etc. i opted for the "French breakfast" which include orange juice, cheese, ham omelette and a croissant. Wife had the croissant with ham. Both were very good and just what we were looking for. Fast friendly service, good food, reasonable prices. If you're looking for a robust breakfast in Prague, Cafe Louvre is a good choice. read more

Fantastic service, exquisitely prepared food, and impeccable lattes-- served with with palate cleansing mineral water-- in a retro atmosphere and vaulted ceilings. The cafe overlooks the street where anti-communist demonstrations of the late 1980s fomented an independence movement in the Czech Republic. The entrance lobby in the second floor has the original "Yelp of the 1800s"; a wall-mounted restaurant map of Prague with direct phone connections that allowed you to call for reservations. A do not miss breakfast or lunch spot. read more

Came here for dinner twice, and both times I loved the food and service! First time, I ordered the Salmon Pesto Gnocchi Pasta, and it was absolutely delicious. I don't think I've ever tasted a better combination of that. The second time, I got the meat plate for two, and I have to say that the meat was juicy, the veggies were nicely grilled, and potatoes were tender! I've had great experiences here, so I'm sure everything else on the menu is delightful! :) read more
We went here as the last stop of our "eating Prague" food tour (which I highly recommend). The restaurant has a lot of history. The communists shut it down after it had been open for years and threw all the furniture down to the street. Guess commies don't like french-czech style food. Maybe they were just grumpy that day. In either case it sat dormant until the velvet (not cake) revolution. Now open again and doing well. We had braised beef in a root vegi puree with whipped cream, lemon and dumplings. The whip cream isn't sweetened so it actually worked for me. Wifey thought it was one of the tastiest dishes she had in Prague. Dessert was a delicious strudel. Yumtastic. Good pick Helena! read more
