My friend and I stopped at Cafe Mozart for one of our first stops in Vienna. We were there for an afternoon coffee and cake. I had their Strawberry Pistachio Cake (strawberry cream, pistachio cream, sponge cake, and strawberry glaze) with a Maria Theresia (double espresso with Cointreau, whipped cream, and orange zest). My friend had their classic Mozart Cake (pistachio cream, chocolate mousse, and chocolate sponge cake). Everything was delicious. (This is just a small slice of what they offer. They have tons of cakes and coffees, but they also serve full meals as well. So it's an option for strudel, schnitzel, plum dumplings, goulash, and more.) The cafe has an interesting history: Oskar Hornik purchased the coffee house and named it after the Mozart monument at the Albertinaplatz in 1929 (it had existed in different iterations and locations for many years before that). After the Anschluss (the Nazi annexation of Austria in 1938), Hornik was forced to sell the cafe at an extremely low price (Aryanization). After the war ended, the cafe struggled and changed owners and uses until 1993, when a family purchased the cafe and focused on restoring it to its earlier glory. The interior of the restaurant is charming - you can see its nod to the past, but it feels quite modern at the same time. And the service was very good. We really enjoyed taking a little break from our day at Cafe Mozart. read more

Great spot right across front the Albertina Museum and there Tourist Info Center. We got in street a short wait, 5 minutes, and were seated. We ordered two Viennese Melange coffees and a trifecta of desserts with a small plate to share for lunch. We've been dying to try all these Viennese desserts we see online and on YouTube. The sausage plate was terrific! Served with normal mustard, sweet hot mustard and freshly ground horseradish with beef gravy. Every bite was flavorful and really mixed together well. That's one of the things we've noticed most in Europe versus the states, they mix as bunch of items together that you look at and think, "That's an odd choice", but then you taste them together and it's a wonderful combination. Try this plate for a small bite to keep you moving! Of the three desserts which had the Landtman Bakery label on them: The orange cake was wonderful! It's a brand new offering and it was light, tasty and refreshing. Can't recommend enough! The apple strudel with vanilla sauce was fine. The apples and the sauce were terrific. The crust was disappointing. It was soft and lacked flavor and just underwhelming which took away from the rest of the dessert. I'd get this elsewhere. Last was the cherry torte cake. We didn't want to go cliche and order the Sacher torte so we tried this variant. It was very good! Light cherry taste and the cake was moist and light, not heavily sugary like US desserts. Even the chocolate was light. We weren't dying of thirty after eating any of these like in the US, they just use do much less sugar in Europe. The coffee was delicious abcs deserves the worldwide praise it received. Chocolaty and light with hints of roasted nuts. Very good. Of note, don't pay for water! They bring water with any coffee you order in Vienna so just drink that for free. Even tap water costs money! read more

It was a tourist-y area so maybe the prices might be a bit more than if you go elsewhere. However, service was good and the outdoor seating area had mists so it was not as hot since it was during the heatwave. Food/Drinks: 1. I got an iced tea and while it was good, it wasn't outstanding but it was refreshing for sure on a hot day! 2. Schnitzel entree. It came with the salad that was good, I noticed the different cities in Europe they liked to drench the dressing and let it soak in the veggies. The potato salad was very good, too. They were just chunks of potatoes but the way they seasoned it was very good. The main character: the schnitzel was amazing. They flattened the pork until it was very thin and it had a very nice light batter around it. It went well with the lemon and jam but also on its own, too. Food was good. Service was good. Ambiance was good. What was not good is three major things. NO air conditioning running, not even fans, on a sweltering day. Men's bathroom had a toilet seat completely detached and was literally just sitting on the toilet. I sat on it and slipped off the toilet. Not to mention the bathroom was sweltering even worse and I'm sitting on the toilet dripping with sweat. Finally and possibly most insulting, there is a charge for TAP water even when we bought other food. Ridiculous. We had our first meal in Vienna at the Mozart Cafe. It was one of a few places that had quick a long line, so our thinking it was decent enough to warrant many people wanting to dine here. Personally, I've never heard of this place. The only claim to fame is that it is one of the establishments in the Sacher Hotel. We perhaps waited 20 to 30 minutes. We were seated at a booth at the window. We had a nice view of the Albertina across the street. I started off with a traditional Viennese soup consisting of beef consume, noodles and a large bread dumpling. For my entree, I had the veal loaf and mashed potatoes. The soup was amazing and I could have eaten another bowl. The veal was tasty but the brown gravy was overly salty. My spouse got the Viennese fried fish. I was thinking the fish would be breaded and fried like Schnitzel. However it is beer batter fried! I would stay away from that if you're looking for traditional Viennese cuisine. To end the meal, we shared the kaiserschmarrn. It was good but for what it was--the ones you get at the Christmas markets seem more interesting. Next time!! read more

Vienna's Cafe Mozart boasts an ornate interior and a delightful ambiance. It is exceptionally busy on New Year's Eve, however the waitstaff remained attentive. Mozart's Landtmann's Heiße Schokolade is on par with Vienna's finest cacao, albeit at a steeper price point. Thicker consistency without an overbearing sweetness. I enjoyed the tangy flavors in the seasonal Himbeer-Vanilleschüsserl. The fresh raspberries and rose-pink cream toppings were particularly appealing, however the tart's crust was unexpected dry and brittle. The Trüffeltorte was an unexpected disappointment. Despite an impressive presentation, the cake sponge was dry and stiff. Worse, the torte filling was underwhelming, and falled to convey a chocolatey experience. Overall, Mozart's ambiance and exceptional hot chocolate compensated for the lackluster truffle torte. I am interested in returning to sample their rendition of the famous Sacher Torte. I would recommend visiting this cafe at least once. read more

Historic Viennese cafe close to the Opera House. Charming interiors with beautiful chandeliers and a selection of newspapers, though all were in German. Sachertorte was delicious and nicely presented. Cappuccino and the cafe melange were decent too. Service was prompt and friendly- no grumpy waiters in this cafe. For movie buffs out there this is the cafe where some scenes of Third Man were shot and Orson Welles and Graham Greene hung out! read more

This was one of the RUDEST places I have ever been to in my life. I was standing right in front of the "please wait to be seated" signed waiting for someone to help me for over 10 minutes and no one even acknowledged me, despite multiple workers walking past me a dozen times. The last straw was when one of the workers talked to a German speaking lady that came in five minutes after me. You first approach this stunning building and walk into the sweetest cafe. First glance is the pastry case then adorable seating that you can find yourself spending hours just sitting & sipping on a coffee & dessert. We really enjoyed the hot chocolate & lattes. We stopped in here during our day trip to Vienna to grab a coffee and apple strudel. We felt like we couldn't leave Vienna without trying apple strudel. I will definitely say this place has become an Instagram place. Everyone around us was posing for photos and taking photos of their food. We were able to sit down right away which was nice. We both ordered a coffee as well. I will say overall, our food and drinks were like the best thing ever but they were solid. This is a great place to say you went. It is also located close to all the main attractions. We didn't get food other than the strudel but their food looked pretty good. Also a note of cultural differences for Americans visiting: 1. is when you are done, you need to ask for the check. 2. check what tipping norms are, I think we were told traditional tipping is around 10% 3. when you finish your water, you need to ask for more water, they do not have someone you walks around filling waters. Overall, I recommend for anyone visiting to check this place out if you want to be able to say you went. I am sure you can get better coffee and strudel elsewhere but this is such a well-known place we felt like we couldn't miss it. read more

What a special environment. One gets a sense that this is a local spot and very classy without too much prevention. They offer gluten free options but few are both gluten and dairy free. I ordered bacon and eggs and it came out beautiful! The bacon is thin like prosciutto and they make the eggs Sunny side up. I ordered a black coffee, which was interpreted as espresso, which was a great surprise because that's actually what I wanted! The espresso is delicious and they provide hot water if you want more of an americano (I didn't). Definitely worth stopping in! read more

This place was so nice that we ended up here twice. Besides the fact that it's been named in a movie or 2 and has had famous creatives frequent it, it also has great food and excellent service. At first, we just stopped for drinks. We had different spritzes on offer. They were both delicious. We then returned for lunch and had the white asparagus soup. It was divine! When we couldn't get in at out first try at Sacher we settled for this place right around the corner. It was empty so that should have been a sign. The 'Sacher' torte was very dry. I hate giving such bad review but Cafe Mozart had such terrible service. It not only takes so long to get a table, the food comes out painfully slow. I think we waited about 45 minutes on food and another 30 minutes just to get refill on waters. What makes it worse is that they charge for tap water...2.5 euros to be exact for a small glass jar of water and anther 2.5 euros for refills. Food was ok. We had cheeseburger and Caesar salad. It was as expected but for the service or the lack of, not worth it at all. We initially wanted dessert and coffee after our meal, but changed our minds quickly when we realized how bad the service was. It would've taken another hour for it I am sure. read more

It was basically scrambled eggs with egg dumplings (just eggs mixed with flour by the taste of it). Normally I don't waste food and try to finish everything, but this was just so bad that I could not finish it. The texture was just so strange, and the truffle oil did not make things better. My friend and I were tired walking around Vienna and found this very welcoming place to just sit down and relax with some coffee and pastries. We did notice it was a bit higher prices than the other cafes but after a long day walking it really didn't matter, and you could have fun people watching as well from the seats. Food was great, a group of us dined there twice in Aug.2023. Wiener schnitzel was excellent, so were the veal medallions (actually meat balls, but very tasty) . On another occasion bit tired of Wiener schnitzel and wanting a lighter meal, I had an excellent Caesar salad with salmon. Others I'm my party had it with giant shrimp. We tried the apple strudel (The real thing!!! not the puff pastry americanized version) the Mozart torte, hazelnut torte, choc torte, the cake portion could have been a bit more moist, but those thin crisp dark chocolate coating & ganache fillings were so very good.
