Have eaten here dozens of times and the food is always good, service usually good. We also own a company in the area and order the carry out quite often for lunch. Never again. The girl who answered the phone today should probably find a job where she doesn't have to deal with people. Completely rude. Very surprising how good it was. It doesn't look like much from the outside so I would never try it. Some friends invited us so we went and I was very impressed. I removed my negative previous reviews ONLY BECAUSE we had a good experience last SAutruday and I believe in benefit of doubt, Even though it was pretty doubtful Upon entering, we noticed the music was for once, Not glaringly loud (love that) and we did not have to be subjected to the loud crazy kitchen music either. thanks for that too. Terrible. I had such high hopes for this place, after going to Cafe 20 this afternoon, I had to come home and post my review. The only good thing, was our waitress was extremely sweet and very friendly. Wish I could of gotten her name! First off, it was crowded and very loud. They should of turned off the music because of the loudness, but whatever. Not a big deal. It was also very very hot, I was sweating as was the waitresses. Our order took a while to come, so did our waters. My daughter got the Nachos, which were terrible! Canned cheese. Had no flavor. So many places are better. I got the fried chicken, and the garlic mashed potatoes. My food came, no mashed, but fries. The waitress said they ran out, but they should of come out and asked what I would like as an alternative. I then asked for potato salad, which was very very bad. My meal besides that, was good. I also got soup, and no rolls. Whatever, I'll just ask, right? Well, a waitress came by and I asked for a roll with my soup, she said they had no rolls but the people right by us had rolls. She then said "I'll see if I can do that." She walked past our table at least 15 times and said nothing. My waitress bought me 2 rolls, although I had barley any soup left. Lastly, they charged me $2 for 2 rolls. Arrived at 2 pm for lunch during what appeared to be a meeting of several servers seated at the bar. The restaurant was empty. The server was not exceptionally attentive and seemed more interested in the meeting agenda than his customers. He left an empty basket of taco chips and a weak, nearly liquid "salsa" on the table throughout the meal. The Yummy burger was properly grilled and presented with cheese fries. Not sure what they make their 'cheese sauce' from, but it was thick, gooey and not very cheese like in taste. Not quite as bad as the stuff from a can, but not very flavorful or tasty. The steak sandwich was excellent, properly cooked to order and an exceptional cut of meat. The garnish of onions, tomato slice and pickles looked like they had been sitting out for quite a while. The potato salad side was interesting and fresh, it just lacked any flavor. Some pickle and onion would have enhanced it enough to make it edible. We ordered the apricot cheese cake for dessert. It was presented on a plate with a hint of a tasteless fruit syrup and an excessive amount of chocolate syrup decorating the plate. The plate decoration was excessive and tasteless, although the whipped cream was fresh and tasty. The cheesecake was cold and there appeared to be some dried apricot jam on top. When the server was asked he said it was "fresh," but when asked 'how fresh' he replied that it was about two weeks old. He then went on to describe how some 'littlle old lady' brings it in. He didn't think the soggy bottom crust and dried out edges made it less than fresh. Would probably go back as many items were excellent, but will avoid the dried out aged desserts. The service and aged dessert detracted from the remainder of the meal. read more

This was my first time eating here. We arrived at 2:45 Saturday afternoon. Only 2 other tables were occupied (two people each group). All in my group ordered sandwiches. It was close to 25 minutes before we got them. My vegetable sandwich was quite greasy. No silverware or napkins at the table. Had to ask for them. Server was pleasant. Nothing special. Went there for the first time today. Wife had fish tacos and said they were the best she's eaten. Also great potato salad. I had vegetable sandwich which was excellent. I've eaten at Café 20 many times since they opened and have enjoyed it. It had been awhile but went last night and was really disappointed. I've usually ordered the filet or the New York Strip and they've been delicious. The filet isn't on the menu so I ordered the strip and was asked how many ounces I wanted. Odd. I took a stab and said 12 and got a very thin and tough little steak that was more of a breakfast type steak. Not the thick delicious steak I'd been thinking about all afternoon. The couple I was with ordered fish fry and asked for it extra crispy. They got rather soggy and undercooked fish. We waited almost an hour for our food, about 40 minutes in our waitress informed us that she had neglected to turn our order in with barely an apology. Not the night I had planned. read more

This has been one of my favorite restaurants for a few years but I won't go back. The service was good but the food was lousy. I ordered chicken marsala as I always do. Terrible! I thought the food here was pretty good, but the service has reached an all time low. If you go inside it seems fine, if you order for carryout its a completely different story. On top of missing and wrong Items from my order, they didn't want to honor the menu posted on thier website. The kids meal I paid 4.99 for came with only a grilled cheese. No fries, or sides of any sort, no drink, just the sandwich. When I went to pick up the food, there was a separate charge for soup. Evidently the fish tacos don't come with soup even though the web menu says otherwise. When I presented this to the bartender, she hatefully just took it off the ticket, "this time". After seeing the wrong food I called them and asked for a manager, I was told he was too busy and that I could call back tomorrow. Needless to say, we won't be returning ever. If you do order carryout note that they also charge a " to go fee" for every item ordered. This is not listed anywhere of course. read more

We went there today not expecting much. The outside isn't too promising, but the inside is well decorated and looks nice. We were there with two young kids and they gave us the children menus inside some Golden Books, which was a very cute touch since reading the books to the kids kept them busy while we were waiting for the food. We ordered a margherita pizza, a fried mozzarella log and a grilled vegetable sandwich. They have a nice brick oven and the pizza crust was thin and crunchy and the ingredients on top fresh and they used actual mozzarella on it. Very good. The fried mozzarella was also nice and crispy and the marinara sauce that came with it very good. The grilled vegetables sandwich was very flavorful. We liked that there was a good variety of items on the menu and they all sounded very good. The place is nice and the quality of the ingredients seems very high. We would definitely recommend to someone in the area. read more

We have been here twice for lunch. Excellent. Fish is quite fresh. We have had the walleye sandwich, the fish tacos and the taco salad. We also had the fried pickles. Everything was quite good. Only possible complaint was that service was a tad slow, but was very friendly. read more

My hubs and I went here with another couple because this is essentially the only restaurant in town. I was nervous because of the negative reviews, but this place was great! I ordered the fish tacos (LOVED them), and we all shared the firecracker shrimp for an appy. It was delicious! The other folks at my table ordered the broiled chicken, a steak, and salmon. Nobody had complaints. My husband really liked his broiled chicken. The portions were HUGE. You really get a lot of food for the $. This place was hopping, but or server was still always checking in with us. I give it 4/5 stars for being yummy and a good deal. It wasn't gourmet or anything, but it was a convenient meeting place, wasn't too loud, and we had tons of leftovers! read more

This is one of those places that locals are known by name but you can still take people here to have working lunch or treat for a special night out. Great burgers and waffle fries but their sandwiches are also good, esp the BLT. They have an Oktoberfest (in Sept) and the food for that is wonderful and authentic. They have a stone pizza oven that looks like they use actual wood fires for. Pizzas are special here. Prices are pretty fair and you never go hungry. read more

Ordered a porterhouse rare it came full medium, not the first time. 3 taco dinners and a steak took 40 mins and place was only half full, also not the first time. Told waitress about the steak she said well I told them. Tried and true get what you pay for in Marengo and it's not going to change. Owner probably thinks it's charming. read more

Worst food and service I have ever experienced. The first two bites of the chicken salad had cartilage in it, so I sent it back. (first time ever I have sent food back in a restaurant). The waitress said well we really can't do this, however, if you want me to bring you extra fish from your husband's all you can eat fish fry, I will do that, as if she was doing me a favor?! She then hid the chicken salad from the manager/owner and threw it out. When we got the bill, the chicken salad sandwich was on there still. I told her I was not paying for it, she spoke to the manager/owner, I'm sure she told him I just didn't like it and refused to pay. He never once came over to ask what was wrong or anything. I gave cafe 20 a 2 star because the food was very good-BUT we will NEVER eat there again-I had purchased 4or 5 $10 discounted gift certificates and was using them over the course of a year -I used one roughly every other month -on the last one I called in a order for around $11 to have ready by my husbands 30 min lunch break -it was hot and ready when he arrived- he waited there for them to hand him the food for 20 min. the owner/manager finally came over to him and said he could not have his food because he was using a gift certificate that we paid for because he was not running a soup kitchen right in front of customers .. needless to say he was appalled and walked out and said he wouldnt return but there was no time for him to grab something elsewhere so he had to go back to work with no lunch-which was REALLY dumb on his part because my husband works for a large local company and that was NOT A good business move for them!!!!! read more

Don't waste your time. New to the area, so the wife and I thought we'd give them a try. Arrived today, 7/8/17 at around 5pm. Greeted promptly, and taken to a filthy booth. Food debris and crumbs all over the seats, which the person seating us clearly saw, but didn't offer to clean. We brushed the crumbs and debris away ourselves. Next came the waitress with our menus. We were all distracted by the insect that crawled across the table, and the waitress did apologize and took it away. She came back with some bread and took our order. We couldn't enjoy the bread however, as there weren't any utensils at our table and therefore we were unable to butter our bread, which is how we enjoy eating it. No matter how we tried, we couldn't get her attention. End result, bread looked nice, but we didn't eat any. Finally, when our order came, a pizza, it was wrong. Why the waitress didn't check the order first is beyond us. She brought it, and walked away. We ended up eating the pizza that came to the table because we were on a time line and couldn't wait for a new one to be baked. We pointed out the order error at the time the bill arrived, and the waitress apologized again and adjusted the price down to the full price for the pizza we did get. 12 words . . . filthy, bugs, order error, won't set foot in that place ever again. read more

Stopped by on a whim. Thought it was going to be an actual Cafe. Turned out to be more high end priced food - Italian mostly but everything else reflected German. The waitstaff was standing around by the bar eating the bar nuts with the bartender. The kitchen is visible. One of the cooks was making smiley faces with an onion ring to the waitress, then put sauce on it and ate it right in front of all the diners. Didn't wash his hands afterwards. Flies everywhere - probably because the cooks were having a smoke out back when we got there with the back door wide open. My Daughters cheese fries had a hair in it. I sent it back and asked for another. No apologies or visit from the Manager (if there is one) and when the waiter brought it back he said "Here you go, nice clean fries". REALLY? Waiter offered my kids root beer and then brought bottles of root beer at $3.50 a piece. Somebody didn't bother to drain the pasta for my chicken parm so it was watery on the bottom. Left paying waay too much money for crappy food and service. Also was grossed out and didn't eat for the rest of the day. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. read more
