Coffee or tea in a place most people wouldn't think is a college town - 2 of 2 In downtown Berea and not far from small private Baldwin Wallace University is this independent and popular coffeehouse. It's popular with students, with educators, with local residents, and with whomever has had it recommended to them ... like me. I have had two people tell me about Cafe Ah-Roma and one was a local friend who now prefers coffeehouses in suburbs closer to the lake. Regardless, everyone you ask about it seems to know exactly where Cafe Ah-Roma is. When first told about it, I thought it had something to do with Rome. It then became very obvious it's a play on the word aroma that will additionally have you making an "ah" sound for relief and/or elation. The interior is comfortable like an old shoe and, based on the postings, art work, and vibe, the store has real connectedness to its community. Note that this area leans slightly liberal but not ridiculously so. That means you might even see a Karen or two in here. Also, true to the notion that "culture comes from the top down," the staff that helps you, often students, are very polite and customer-focused when the chain coffeehouses are almost at the point of sliding things at you. These are good values that the owners are passing on to employees and, here, it's about the customers. They want to know that you are happy with your purchase. I want to add that, to go with your coffee or tea, they have cookies, pastries, or could put together something savory for you. In my case, I added a tomato basil bagel with a vegetable spread that they made for me. It's all good. The prices for menu items are also fair. This coffeehouse is in the suburb immediately south of the international airport. Only a few hotels are north of CLE, with most of them being south in Berea or Middleburg Heights. If staying at a nearby hotel, this locale is nearby. Cafe Ah-Roma is for everyone and the broad customer base is really interesting. In more temperate weather, there are exterior chairs and tables under the covered walkway to nearby stores. The interior is fairly spacious and bright. In closing, Ah-Roma deserves high marks for being a good coffeehouse (4 stars) and then some, hence 5 stars. read more

Cafe Ah-Roma is a play on the word "aroma" as well as the apparent "Ah" you may make after drinking a sip of coffee. I would describe my experience there as "Ah-kay." Their coffee is from area roaster, Caruso's. So, it's a solid cup of coffee and local. Their menu options are nothing particularly special. Got an egg sandwich on an everything bagel and wanted to try one of their fruit danishes but all they had available was cheese. Again, it was all sufficient. Ultimately, I think if you're in the area and just want some kind of breakfast/cafe experience, it's fine. But, ultimately, I was not floored by the Ah-Roma. read more

Coffee is the main thing here. It always goes good with any of the bagels, which makes this a popular place in the morning. There isn't that much room inside, but they still have plenty of tables. If you feel overwhelmed by the large coffee menu you can simply get a regular coffee. It's about $3 for a cup. This coffee is located in the urns at the front. As for the food it's mostly breakfast items like bagels. It's about $2.50 for a bagel and a spread. The peanut butter is very good especially when it's melted because the bagel is toasted. It has some old school decor. It gives it a cozy and relaxing feeling. They have modern technology like wifi. read more

Great place to grab a bite to eat or meet up with friends. Plenty of seating for 2 people or larger groups! There is WiFi available, if you are looking for a place to get some work done. Wall plugs nearby in almost all corners of this place, which is awesome! Nice neighborhood cafe in Berea. Hot coffee is good, but I prefer their cold coffee. We enjoy their food, a mixed menu with sandwiches and wraps are what we have tried. I needed the WiFi today & no problemo. Got the large cappuccino & it was great. Here comes the feisty bagel ah-Roma. Let's dig in. It's the standard everything bagel with sausage & egg, made feisty with the spicy feta orange cheese dip on there. Shut the front door it's an indelible combination! Nice staff and great service, but the food isn't very good. I'm not sure if they actually make much, if any, of their food fresh at this location. I only consider this location for coffee now, not any food. In particular, I would not recommend the bagels as they are either day old, or aren't baked in house. I would compare these to airport food. My wife says they are the worst bagels she's ever had. If you want a fresh baked bagel, you are better off going next door at Giant Eagle to pick some up from the bakery. read more

Even since Berea got a Starbucks, Cafe Ah-Roma continues to be packed every morning with locals stopping in for hot coffee, sweet chai lattes and great breakfast sandwiches. My favorite is the Bistro Bagel which is egg, bacon, provolone and mustard sauce. Cafe ah-Roma has covered outdoor seating where you'll always see people enjoying the fresh air with their leashed dogs right beside them. They have free Wi-Fi and a charging station at the counter overlooking the passing traffic. They also do lunch but I've never been here for lunch. There was talk about how this place would fare once Starbucks opened but I'm happy to say that it's faring just fine. read more

Was in the area and stopped in to get some work done on my computer. Love the atmosphere in this shop, it almost feels like something out of a movie and you feel like the main character. I've never been in here before until now and I would've tried their coffee if I hadn't got some earlier. I got a raspberry fruit smoothie and 1/2 cranberry turkey wrap. Their prices are really nice and not outrageous. If it wasn't 50 minutes away from where I live, I would definitely come here more often, just to not be home on my days off work. The cafe was dirty. The staff was not unpleasant but certainly not welcoming. They don't offer oat milk - or they were out of it late morning on a Monday. The menu had plenty of options but the quality was poor. The quality of espresso was lacking. You can do better at home - just buy your favorite Torani syrup (that's what they use at Cafe Ah-Roma) and a home espresso maker. Wasted $10.50 on two drinks that hit the trash before we made it to the car. Yuck. read more

I couldn't find any outlets for my computer. The seat are very uncomfortable. The wifi isn't great. And it's cramped in here. I think this is more for locals to come hang out and talk and socialize. Which is totally fine. Except I'm not a local and I didn't have anyone to socialize with. It's also VERY bright in here. Like a cafeteria in a senior citizens center. Not much of a selection as far as pastries go - some cookies and a few pieces of cake in plastic containers and a few muffins. Although the zucchini muffin I had was great! Here to stun you folks yet again! And i am gonna GUSH yet again! Worked DowntownCleveland over 30 years and went to a Cafe Au-Roma quite often when at E 22 and CSU. The owner Rob SAID he had another establishment and i forgot all about it till i was seeking somewhere new to try in Berea and there it was. Drove up about 1:40 pm, parked on street, walked in and got my same usuals from back in the day. All Healthy too! Chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat honey bread, picked and diet cola all for under $9.00. YUMPIN YIMINI !!!! DO NOT think of this as just a coffee shop as their food is better than McDonalds and as i think of that, a #1 meal there is $11.00 and not healthy at all for you. Except for new salad recipe, everything was the same. The logo, the menu selections, bagels, scones, huge diversified menu for lunch, brunch, breakfast. This address does brisk business for breakfast after which the owners then go to the DT location where the brisk business is lunch! Both places are clean and tidy, nicely decor'd/themed and no one ever rushes you go back to what you were doing. Rob and his wife have been doing this FOREVER!!!! Staff efficient, quick, just chatty enough and now i remember why i always ordered HALF a sandwich. They are SOOOOOOO big, you cant finish an entire one even though i had not eaten yet today. Dined in so i could look at everything and reminisce, which I took full advantage of. Its half the size of the other one but they are serving a humongous CSU and business clientele for lunches with soups and such but the right size for Baldwin Wallace groups. DONT miss this one (or their other one), they are both to die for. Reasonably busy at this hour and folks were definitely enjoying dining on outdoor patio. There was one scone left wih my name on it and bought it before i left. Delightful!! Loved my time there and I left a HI FOR ROB for the girls to deliver tomorrow morning.
