Chai Latte, Za'atar Pesto, Mushroom Sandwich
    Joyce K.

Visited this cute cafe on a weekday morning (almost missed the entrance - it's discrete!) They have an extensive menu of drinks and sandwiches, salads, burritos, etc., with a Mediterranean/Lebanese twist. I got the chai latte and the Za'atar mushroom pesto sandwich. They were both good, but not blow-your-mind (didn't quite feel worth the $20+ paid). I think I should have ordered the breakfast burrito which they are more famous for. My favorite part of the meal was actually their most beautiful garden-y back patio with music playing - it truly transports you out of Brooklyn!

Great new Lebanese breakfast/brunch spot! Food was cooked perfectly, service was quick, and the ingredients were of high quality. There aren't many Lebanese cafes in NYC serving breakfast, so I'm glad this place exists. I had The Favarite Bowl (the dish is called Foul in Arabic) which was delicious and came with plenty of warm pita that had Zaatar on top. The bowl was a good portion size, the fava beans and chickpeas were cooked perfectly and were super soft and tender. Presentation was great too! My partner had the Alula Breakfast Burrito and got some Lebanese sausage (mechanik) added to it. The wrap was solid, a nice melody of ingredients and it was filling and fresh and well balanced. Great cafe, I'm glad it exists! I'll be back :)

Alula Breakfast Burrito (~$13) with Lebanese Beef Sausage (~$6)

Ordered: Alula Breakfast Burrito (~$13) with Lebanese Beef Sausage (~$6): eggs, cheddar, fava beans, avocado, lettuce, tomato, harissa aioli The Favarite Bowl (~$13): fava beans served with tomato, cucumber, cabbage, radish, and za'atar pita Aya's take: Oh my goodness, shout out to the owner of Cafe Alula for bringing Lebanese breakfast with a twist to Greenpoint. Being Lebanese myself, I've had this spot on my radar for a while. Every item on the menu is intentional and thoughtful. Although some dishes aren't "traditional", a lot of them do use ingredients commonly found in Lebanese sandwiches, salads, and bowls. I'm a sucker for a good breakfast burrito so the Alula Breakfast Burrito with Lebanese Beef Sausage was completely up my alley! The ingredients were super fresh, the eggs were cooked well, and the Lebanese Beef Sausage added so much flavor and smokiness to it. My only complaint is that the fava beans and lettuce seem very out of place here. I would've preferred some type of crispy potato instead which would've paired better with the other ingredients in the burrito. Aside from that, great portion, delicious ingredients, and super filling. The Favarite Bowl is a Lebanese classic called Foul, #iykyk! The za'atar pita was super fresh and paired nicely with the bowl. I loved all the fresh vegetables on top as garnish. It could've used more olive oil and garlic, but otherwise delicious. The presentation of both dishes was exceptional and you can tell they care about each and every bit of detail. Seating is a bit tight with bar seating in the front and only 3-4 tables in the back. They do have outdoor seating which will be amazing when the weather is better. All in all, Cafe Alula is a must try!

The food is so good here. Service is great even with a fairly minimal number of staff. Ambiance is lovely. Great backyard area.

Nice food and great hummus but not much seating. Probably better for warmer weather since most seating is outdoors. Barista wasn't sure about allergens for the pastries/baked goods so plan to avoid those but they bring food to your table so you don't have to keep coming in and out if sitting outside. Some hearts, might return if in the area.

    Halloumi sandwich (really lacking halloumi).

I have mixed feelings! My friends got salads that were large and looked delicious. I got the halloumi harissa sandwich and it was all bread/lettuce. They gave me like 1/5 the amount if halloumi I had seen in other posts. I couldn't even taste it. It was like a salad sandwich for $16:( Would try something else if I go back

Beautiful, fresh food that's served quickly by a friendly crew. I demolished their breakfast burrito which was so delicious! I loved the fact that they grilled the outside. The back patio is beautiful overlooking the beautiful greenery of the plant store next door. The iced ginger brew was perfect on a hot day and I love the bite of ginger I can feel in my throat. Lovely, lovely place. I we old come here regularly if I lived here!

The food is AMAZING!!!! And the atmosphere is heavenly, sitting outside in their covered area, yet surrounded by nature. I gobbled all the food up and forgot to take pics.‍ I had the fatoush salad w/ two slices of halloumi cheese. And before that, I had the egg, halloumi and sorrel greens on focaccia bread- all was super deliciouso!!!

Delicious food, friendly staff, and plenty of seating. I visited Cafe Alula at the recommendation of my cousin during a recent trip back to NY. You order food at the window right by the entrance. There's menus to review while you wait your turn to order. The staff is very friendly and helpful if you have questions. After you order, they'll give you a number and you find yourself a seat. What I got: - Alula breakfast burrito: everything tasted so fresh. From the veggies to the egg. All the flavors balanced well together and eating it never felt heavy. - Orange blossom chai turmeric latte: DELICIOUS! You can taste the orange blossom without it being overpowering. The chai had a good spice to it. There's street seating in front of the restaurant, but if there's space in the back, I recommend going to eat there. There's plenty of seating with a canopy of plants that makes it feel for a second that you're not in NY.

Have not tried the food but I got the Zatar croissant and it was delicious. The interior of this place looks so cute, and they have a patio in the back. A greenpoint hidden gem.

The food was delicious, and the coffee tasted amazing as well. It was my first time coming here, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ingredients and the good vibes. I stayed to eat in the outdoor patio area. The service was excellent, and I enjoyed my breakfast. It's a very cute place, and I highly recommend it!

When you…read morewalk in, you are immediately greeted by a giant oven baking fresh pita as well as an open kitchen. There is also an outdoor dining area, as well as a mid-sized dining room and we were seated near the window. Sawa serves Lebanese cuisine with some more modern dishes. Additionally, they have a mostly Lebanese wine list, which gave us an opportunity to try some new wines. We ordered both a red and a white for the table, and I was especially drawn to the red, as the red was served chilled, light-bodied, and very enjoyable. Nearly all of the reds and whites on the menu are from Lebanon, with just one red from Morocco, plus a couple sparkling options from Lebanon as well. We started with several dips for the table: hummus, baba ghannouj, and muhammara. The hummus was incredibly smooth, and the muhammara was especially flavorful with large pieces of walnut throughout. Everyone at the table receives fresh pita, and we ended up ordering a few more to share. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the snap peas. The Brussels sprouts were rich and flavorful, but the snap peas really stood out. They were unlike anything I have tasted before, intensely mint, served with garlic mint labneh, and very delicious. For mains, we focused on lamb: two orders of the lamb ribs, two orders of the kafta, and two orders of the sfeeha. We probably over-ordered by about one entrée, but otherwise it was the right amount of food for six people. The lamb ribs were phenomenal, fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor. The lamb pies were also very good and came with a delicious dipping sauce. The kafta was good, though not quite as memorable as the other lamb dishes, but still very satisfying. Service was attentive throughout the meal, and despite the number of dishes on the table, the staff handled everything smoothly. The table got a little crowded at times, but it was manageable. I would absolutely recommend Sawa, especially for anyone who enjoys trying something a little different. They do classic Lebanese dishes very well, while also offering some creative dishes that feel unique and memorable. I am already looking forward to going back.

It's some of the beg pita our family had ever had. The hummus was great but the babaganoush was killlerrrrr. My family had a field day on the syrian cheese and hot honey. I loved the grape leaves and charred eggplant. For dessert, ordered the tiramisu, date sticky pudding, and the rhubarb tart. The date sticky pudding was kind of like a date brownie and the toffee topping was insane. It was so rich and potent. tiramisu was good, but we could have done another Tart. It was so vibrant and refreshing, it was the first to go and if we wouldn't have already been stuffed, we would have ordered another. Service was great, and very accommodating. I can't have sesame seeds, and they took it off of everything we ordered, no mistakes there and much appreciated!

Also, don't advertise a special menu on Opentable and give people the option to reserve the menu when you aren't offering it. Came here for latkes and caviar for NYE since it said it was on the menu when I reserved on Opentable. Got there and was told they only served it during Hannuka Hanukkah. Absolutely loved every dip, which were all different in its own ways that I can't even choose a favorite. The ricotta was a sweet one that gave a nice contrast from the savory spices of the other two. I liked how much chicken they added for the hummus too, so you're getting almost a whole meal.
