If you are from my area they are called Zeppole. Down here, Beignets. Either way I am not sure they make the best breakfast food. Great tasting, but just a little on the fried dough with powdered sugar side for the days 1st meal for me. And it's all they offer. Coffee, tea, soda, juice... and a basket of 3 Beignets.... or as I know them well, Zeppole. read more

Not what I was expecting. I love hole in the wall places and when you are only serving Beignets and coffee, one then expects it to be top notch. The smell of old oil is over whelming. Let me first say that this is not New Orleans. If you are looking for a fantastic beignet, Cafe Du Monde is only about 2 hours away. I live in the area and happened to be on Ft. Morgan Road in Gulf Shores, AL and I saw this place. Loving beignet and Cafe au lait, I just had to stop in and check it out. The atmosphere is pretty plain, almost sterile. The very few decorations they have are beach themed, which makes sense. There was no hint of trying to tie in the cajun/french connection, which seemed unusual and a missed opportunity. They offer all types of coffee and tea including my beloved Cafe au lait. As far as beignets, they have plain and filled. The filling choices are vanilla and lemon (pudding). The sign said they were pudding fillings, so the reviewer who complained about them being like pudding... well what can I say. I was in a hurry, so I ordered a dozen to go, and a separate single order (3) to go as well. Being very familiar with beignets, and the fact that they are covered with powdered sugar, I knew it would not be wise to try to eat any on the road. Especially this time of year with all the beach traffic. I sat down and took out my three. Like I said, this is not Cafe du Monde, this is not New Orleans, and well these were not beignets. At least, not like those. These were much more toothsome (I was trying to use a "foodie" word instead of dense. Really like a cross between a yeast and cake doughnut. They had a very nice sourdough type flavor to them. In fact, I liked it, it just was not like most beignets I have. These were more like the ones you make at home from the box of mix you get from the grocery store, and you overmix, or overwork the dough. Again, I liked the flavor and did not mind the texture. So, I was interested to see what these would be like after driving one hour (to go 20 miles - thanks tourist. Seriously we do love you!) Needless to say, they had not changed in a favorable way. More "toothsome" for sure. On the other hand, my family ate them all up with out saying a word. The coffee was ... not Cafe du Monde, and not really hot. Just not strong like it should be. Would I drive that far, just to go to this place. if we were in the area, and we wanted to stop and eat some cake/yeast donuts with a really good sourdough flavor, yes I might stop by again. They do not take credit cards. There is an ATM available. Otherwise, cash or check. I would give Cafe Beignet a 2.5 at best. I went with 3. read more

This is a good place for Beignets. Not fancy or overwhelming. It's a local place and it's all local and straight forward. Don't expect any glamour The beignets were fine. A little too heavy and greasy. I wonder if the oil is changed daily? Not as classic as I would have liked having lived in Europe. However They were warm and made me happy. Service was nice and pleasant. Price/value was ok. Needed them to be special for the price. read more

This shop isn't much to look at but those beignets are hot, fresh and really tasty. They offer stuffed beignets with vanilla pudding drizzled with chocolate sauce which are good but a little too sweet for me; Can't beat the classic with powdered sugar. We grabbed an order and ate at the beach, was a nice experience and would recommend to others. Side note pay with cash to save on 3% credit charge. read more

Compared to the ones in New Orleans, these are less yeasty and more on the pillow-y cake side.They are as delicious as fried dough can get though. Surprisingly they are not too oily, and they don't have a weird oil flavor either that you can sometimes get (think carnival food). I wish I hadn't discovered this place because now I want to get beignets every day while I'm down here. The beignets are tasty but without good coffee or charm, they get an A-OK rating. read more

Walked in to a run down dining room. Dusty, sticky tables. One broken high chair. A single man working who wasn't the happiest. Cash only. Food was not bad but not great. Probably won't go back. I love a good hole-in-the-wall place. This was more of a hole-in-the-ground. read more

Beignets = Excellent! I'm sure you already know that. No, we're not in New Orleans at Cafe du Monde. BUT if you squint your eyes and pretend, these are a pretty good clone. Hot fluffy pillows covered in a mountain of powdered sugar. YUM! I typically go here and get some to go. The actual store is not impressive. It looks like it used to be something else. I don't know. I don't ever have the desire to stay and experience sitting at a cheap table in what looks like a tiny DMV with a dusty display case in the front (NOT filled with food of any sort). So I order my deliciousness to go and eat them on my balcony overlooking the gulf. Much better. read more

Stopped on a Sunday and tried their regular and cream filled beignets. The regular powder sugar beignets were exceptional and the cream filled ones were a little too rich for our liking. We would've rated this five-stars however their bathroom was filthy and just not that day filthy. As I'm writing this I am thinking maybe we should have given it three stars for the dirty bathroom. Just order your beignets to go and you should be okay ------- I hope! read more

I never turn down desert nor do I leave a desert sitting out but unfortunately today was a first. Mind you we had drove to the perdido key location and couldn't find it so we traveled to the orange beach location. Don't waste your time! First off they only take cash and their atm didn't work on the two tries we tried it, my BF had to walk to the atm at the nearby grocery store. We got an order of the plain and filled. Okay on to the beignets they were very disappointing literally just fried flavorless dough on the plain and no real inside like literally was hollow, and the filled ones I was told was filled with a vanilla custard it actually was a thick vanilla like pudding that tasted spoiled basically with a hint of a fouled lemon kick. We will never eat these here again. read more

My family has been coming to Gulf Shores-Orange Beach for years and have never had a problem when we've come to this Cafe Beignet location until today. My sister, niece and I walked in at 11:30 (they close at 12) and the woman at the front said take out only - we were totally ok with that. We were going to order a dozen and an older man in the back seemed very irritated. Since they were closing soon, I said we would be fine to go ahead and take what all they had made so they didn't have to make any more - he seemed mad we even came in to order anything anyways. The man was extremely unprofessional and rude and condescendingly told us to "land a plane and make a decision"... we ended up deciding to go with a dozen since we had a larger group at home and they only had 6 made. When our order was ready he told us "here is your dozen or 6 or whatever" - such a jerk. His attitude was disgusting and we felt so embarrassed for the woman in the front. read more

We came here at around 11:45 to pick up some beignets to go, where we were told before we got in that our order would have to be to go. Okay, that's fine. The beignets were delicious, the staff and the location definitely left something to be desired. The location looked run down, like an office space that someone just threw some chairs and tables in. The owner was brisk and rude, he ignored us. The waitress was only nice once I put something in the tip jar. The three stars are for the beignets, which were delicious and hot and amazing. What a sad little place. My son and I came here to have breakfast and we got there as soon as they opened, thinking that there might be a crowd, it being near the beach. No, this is definitely a place where you order and leave. The staff was polite but I had to ask for a coffee refill and that's annoying when you're the only people in the whole restaurant! Pitiful. These people are by far the rudest, most condescending and arrogant people I've ever encountered in a public setting. Even though all they sell is deep fried batter drenched in powdered sugar (not bad, but not great either), their attitudes resemble that of the "Soup Nazi" on Sienfelt. Ordinarily, when I patronize an establishment where the quality or service is bad, I just keep it to myself, and hit them where it hurts: I don't go back. But this place (or should I say "these people") are such a joke, that I thought I'ld share it with the world. If you want to be treated like a moron, insulted, disrespected, or just plain treated like dirt, then go check this "Joke of a Business" out. What scares the hell out of me is, if they behave this way in front of the customer, really makes you wonder what goes on out of your sight, in particularly, in the kitchen. The service is sooo bad in this place, it's really the worst I've ever seen, and I believe the owner (or at least the Manager) was one of the main culprits. Waitress went outside and smoked a cigarette, came back in and commenced to serving food, didn't even bother to wash hands. UGH! These people need to lock the door, go work at a real restaurant for 6 months for training, then come back and try again. Terrible. read more

Good food and good service for the price. It's not a fancy restaurant but if you want something covered in powdered sugar and a hot cup of coffee, that's just what you'll get. We live in the area and visit about once a month. It opens at 6 or 7 am and is closed by noon. I think it closes for a week or two around Thanksgiving. read more

My wife has a death allergic reaction to onions and because of cross contamination in the kitchen she was exposed to onions. Regardless of how busy the diner is, the cooks need to take their time to ensure this doesn't happen. Why didn't I speak to the staff? Guests with allergies need to read this and that takes precedent over speaking to a manager who may or not only provide lip service about seeing how this won't hapoen again.
