It wasn't the worst nor was it the best. After 25 minutes they were so hard to eat. We came in pretty early they close early as well. The place is pretty empty no patrons and my cafe au lait was not cafe au lait it was like watery hospital vending machine coffee. I tossed it as soon as I got to our beach home and had to heat the beignets in the microwave. read more

This local spot has been around since the 90s and family owned. Never disappointed. Beignets are fresh made to order. Come out hot and delicious. Pairs great with a cup of black coffee. It's a great spot. Friendly service. I always make a mess with the powdered sugar but well worth it for sure. A quiet little piece of gulf shores. Go support this local business. The only negative I would have to say, which is legit grasping at straws, was they only accept cash right now. We ended up having to find an ATM so we could order but it was well worth it! It is a small shop in a strip mall but it is so cute and quiet. The food is fantastic! We got the filled beignets and the regular ones. The filled was sooo good and are filled with vanilla pudding and topped with sugar and chocolate syrup. They were delicious! The price was super affordable too and well worth it. read more

Today is another example of the importance of updating Yelp reviews. It's been over 4 years since I wrote my initial and only review here. It was just recently that a friend from Memphis was visiting and expressed a serious craving for beignets that I picked up here close to my home. I'm certainly glad I did because they were so much better than my last visit. I had a plain, custard filled and fruit filled beignets that were all quite good, much improved over my first couple visits here. I am happy to bump these guys up to four stars and will be returning. Cafe Beignet is a locally owned and operated shop specializing in New Orleans-style beignets. founded by a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, who fell in love with the Gulf Coast and decided to bring a taste of his hometown to Alabama. Since my first review they now have a second lovation at 25405 Perdido Beach Boulevard, Ste. 22, in Orange Beach, AL. Fresh, authentic beignets and chicory au lait...breakfast of my dreams. My beignet partner had the latte (also good but not chicory coffee). We opted for the traditional and filled beignets and we not disappointed in either! Yes, we bought a dozen (6 trad/6 filled) so we would have some for later. The filled had a delicious vanilla filling with chocolate drizzled on top. Great service from our accented server today. read more

Pulled into the dirty strip mall parking lot about 30 minutes before the listed information about this place said that they close (noon) only to see the lone employee playing on their phone by the entrance. They saw us, the only potential customers of the day I'll bet, and immediately jumped up to lock the door and turn the open sign around. Even as I type this, they should be open but they're not because they don't like customers, I guess? Didn't even get to try the coffee or the beignets. This business should fail if this is the staff they employ. I'm sure we didn't miss much. Went to Foam Coffee and the service as well as the coffee was fantastic! Go there. Don't waste your time trying to go to this place. read more

Stopped here one morning while on family vacation. I was looking for somewhere with a unique, locally owned breakfast. Beignets are a favorite when visiting the South and Nola isn't too far from GS, so I went for it. Glad I stopped here. I picked up a dozen beignets, along with some blueberry muffins and coffee cake. It was the perfect variety for everyone in my family since there was a little something for everyone. The feedback from the fam was all positive. I had a good chicory coffee while I waited too. This place has personality and proper pastries. Highly recommend. read more

Such a cool hole in the wall place in parking lot of shopping center. Was craving beignets so was happy to find this. Our service was excellent. Greeted as soon as we walked in, made us feel very welcome. I had been prepared for mean employees after reading some of the reviews, but this was definitely not the case for us. Had 3 regular beignets and 3 stuffed with vanilla pudding and topped with chocolate sauce, and cafe au lait with chicory. I liked the regular beignets best, the others were good but too heavy and sweet for me. Will definitely visit again when I am back at Gulf Shores. read more

Every trip starts with a quick review of local doughnut options and let's just say this was a great option instead of a traditional doughnut! Most places would provide you whatever was in the case but the display case was just for that, displaying their options. When I got my dozen, they were piping hot,l and fresh. Messy as they should be. Definitely need to make this a stop for your breakfast. read more

Open early... no set closed time. Only thing on the menu...beignets. Drip coffee. Ordered a dozen thinking we would want More than 2 each. (Single order is 3). Opened the box in the car..... shaking off at least a cup of powdered sugar..... the dough was gooey inside. The owner had no personality..... We interrupted him being on his IPad. read more

4 stars solely to the beignets -- and you must get them filled! The coffee/hot choc is machine made, like the multi dispensers at gas stations and was not ideal (go to Badass Coffee if you want a more custom drink). Cash only wasn't too big of an issue for us, but we prob would have left if we didn't have it on us, it's just an inconvenience when most places around there are cashless now. Overall, quick stop place. Just go for the beignets and pastries and get your drinks somewhere else. read more

Not sure why this place has 3/5 stars. Ordered the plain and an order of the vanilla custard stuffed chocolate drizzled beignets. Took them to go. They do take credit cards. It was a short wait, Saturday 10am. The cashier was taking orders and shouting them to the cook before customers paid to speed the process. Just a 5 minute drive to our rental. Very delicious ! Very doughy, crispy, and warm inside. The vanilla custard was not too heavy and a lot of it inside. I enjoyed these beignets a lot and so too will you. read more

We have lived in the area for several years and have been wanting to try this location for a while now. We came in today at 11:30 planning to get it to go, knowing they closed at "noon-ish." We were quickly asked by the owner(??) if we were ordering to go because he'd be closing soon. We told him we planned on doing so, we just needed a moment to decide. We decided on 1 regular order of beignets and 1 vanilla filled order. While waiting, he greeted other customers who walked in the door the same way. He even went as far to walk outside to tell someone (at 11:38) not to bother getting their wheelchair out of the vehicle, as he'd be locking the doors soon and could only make a to-go order for them. I understand wanting to close on time but this seemed a bit brash. There were no orders ahead of ours, and only 2 after, so ours came out pretty quickly. The regular beignets were delicious and exactly what we hoped for. As for the filled...we DON'T HAVE A CLUE! I'm guessing because he was in such a rush to get us out the door, he mixed up our order, and gave us 2 regular orders instead of one of each. We realized shortly after leaving and didn't bother going back or calling, despite our disappointment and having paid extra for the filled, because we expected the doors to be locked and a rude response. We might give them another chance in the future but we won't be recommending to friends. read more

Reviews are all over the place for Cafe Beignets, but our experience was great. Got there just past 7:00, so it wasn't busy. Staff was pleasant. Beignets made to order and tasted great, equalling my memory of Cafe du Monde from years back. Also, just got beignets, so can't speak to their coffee. BTW, they accept credit cards now. read more

Need coffee on a Sunday?! Come here!! Coffee was secondary to the fresh, warm, delicious beignets, but I wasn't looking for a fancy cappuccino. Just needed something hot and strong. My husband and I have been enjoying this restaurant since they were located on Hwy. 59! We were greeted upon arrival and our orders were taken from our table. The beignets were made fresh to order with a stick included to let the steam out. The beignets are as delicious as the ones in New Orleans. Service was quick and the waitress was friendly. Many people came in and their orders were taken care of in a friendly manner with many orders to go. Great service and 5 stars to the awesome beignets!! read more

This is also a roasting house and when I went to get my coffee the urn was empty (this has happened before), I immediately brought to someone's attention and it took until I had finished my breakfast bowl before it was refilled. I had the Farmers Bowl and found it filled with sautéed vegetables along with two eggs over medium and sliced sweet potatoes with skin on the bottom. It was flavorful and I would have it again. My friend had the Weekender with two eggs, cinnamon french toast, sausage (your style) and potatoes. He stated the French Toast was excellent.

Last summer I tried it with bacon and this year with sausage. Last year I ordered one, finished it, then ordered a second one. I was either starving or this is a top 5 breakfast sandwich I have ever had. They also have homemade cakes, pies and cookies. I tried a homemade peanut butter cookie last summer which was very good. The bagels are also good. They come with cream cheese which is very good as well. It is a dairy we never heard of it however, some of the best cream cheese we have eaten. We tend to stay away from big name brands. Happy Pappy's also offers fun spins on drinks and coffee. rude, condescending, immature, just plain pitiful service. From the very second we walked in the door, was greeted with a STUPID remark about how we parked. I should have turned around and went somewhere that appreciated my business, but thought I'd bite my lip, and give them the benefit of the doubt. Boy was I wrong! Every table in the place received at least one smart-a$$ remark from the waitress AND the owner, that's right, THE OWNER! The quality of the food really matters not, the personalities and childish behavior of the grown adults that worked there robbed any quality that their goods might have provided....and they weren't that good, fair at best. While we were waiting on our food, the waitress went outside and smoked a cigarette, then came in and served us our food....without washing her hands! Think about it, if they're this thoughtless and hateful in plain view of the customers, my God, think how they are in the kitchen where they aren't being observed! If you want great food, at a good price, and friendly, smiling service, avoid this place like the plaque, run from it like you stole something. But if you want to see exactly how NOT to run a business that deals face to face with the public, come visit this joke. You won't believe this place is still in business, these people obviously hate their jobs, and the people that make their jobs possible. read more
