Super convenient to just pop a homemade casserole in the oven for the kids on a busy week night.

While this is a great place for kids if you're like me you'll feel like a kid again when you walk…read morethrough the doors. Upon entering you can smell all different kinds of sweets and treats but right up front I'm always drawn to what we called "penny candies" when I was a kid. OMG Clove and Black Jack gum, Mallow Cups and double OMG the little wax bottles filled with juices. I forgot what we called them over 50 years ago but these are called Nik.L.Nip mini drinks, and for those that were kids when my 41 year old was a kid they have a big selection of pop rocks :-) Staying with the sweet stuff they have a great assortment of candies from just about every decade going back to WWII and up to the Star Wars variety. There's jelly beans, taffy, candy tacos, cotton candy and a virtual plethora of sweet treats, trust me this is a candypalooza store. They have lots of good snack food for your eat-in or akeout pleasure including hot dogs, slow-roasted Pork, popcorn, homemade chili & cheese sauces, homemade salsa,  scratch petzel dough, in-house recipe mac & cheese, hamburgers & more. Plus ICE CREAM, always great to have a nice ice cream choice by the beach, nice! There's a bigger version of this locally owned business in Foley with the advantages of a larger inventory and also a great souvenir shop, if you don't want to deal with the crowds closer to the beach. They also have other fun stuff t-shirt collections, socks, stuffed animals, souvenirs and an eclectic soda collection, the bacon & coffee sodas caught my eye. Bottom line: This is a super stop for the entire family! #nostalgia #fun NOTE: I'm normally not one to be crtitical of other reviewers as we all have our personal experiences and should never shy away from sharing without reservation. However, in the case of this business there's some bad star ratings that apparently due to Covid indiscretions and I have something to say about that. This is my opinion as it relates to negatively impacting the overall rating of a business. A 1 star rating will impact a business forever, and let's face it, not that long ago no mask or no gloves wouldn't have factored into that score and with any luck not long from now it won't be a factor again. But the rating will. I feel that any business should be viewed for its venue, the product quality and service and even a bad staffer shouldn't be the ultimate arbiter of the overall score. It's not my intention to make this personal to anyone it's just that I have both sympathy and empathy for small business and I'm on my soap box to address this particular issue as I believe we owe it to our communities to be just a little more measured overall, especially during these difficult times, and especially for our local owned and operated shops. One last thought, I try to put in a Covid related remark, and in a couple cases a warning, so that readers can be informed about what they might encounter. I'll step off now .....

They have a seafood dept that has a variety to choose from, mostly known for their boiled shrimp and crawfish~Cajun style. We like the seafood dips they have, especially the smoked tuna a dip. They have the best key lime pie in town. So, I usually have one of those in my freezer. Oh, they have a big area for alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. You name it, Rouse's probably has it. Rouse's is more convenient to the beach than other grocery stores, but it may be a little pricier. You have to weigh the pros and the cons, like all other places. Note: pics taken from Rouse's online site.

This location has a fresh sushi count that looked amazing and a great selection of fresh or steamed fish and seafood. I love walking down the aisles to see all the things you'd never find in most grocery stores, the staff here is very welcoming and outgoing and always ready to help direct you to anything you need. I just heard Rouse purchased (10) more Winn Dixie locations that they plan to renovate and rebrand them under the Rouse name, unfortunately none close to my home but it's great news for their Louisiana and Mississippi loyal customers. If you've never entered a Rouse Market you definitely need to check them out...

Southern food includes Meat-and-Three restaurants, barbeque, fried ANYthing, fresh caught fish, and…read morehunted game. Hominy, hush puppies, cornbread, grits, Alabama white sauce on any meat, especially smoked chicken, are all popular in Alabama. BBQ is practically a religion in the South! As former certified Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) certified judges, my husband and I completed the training and paid the fees to be certified. The "KCBS way" is different from a lot of people's preferences in that, for example, a BBQ rib should actually have some "pull" to it, meaning, when you bite into it, your mouth should leave a mark in the rib. This means "fall off the bones" ribs are not KDBS quality, despite how many love that rib consistency. The KCBS judges slots fill up so quickly and required us to travel at our own cost and we did not judge any KCBS events. Back to Southern food. Deep fried double Oreos are one of the many fried foods here in Huntsville, and Melt restaurant features them on their menu. Meat-and-Three restaurants feature a meat (usually fried pork chop, meatloaf, BBQ, fried catfish, country fried steak/chicken) and three sides (fried okra, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked potato, potato salad, cole slaw, French fries) and bread options such as cornbread, rolls, hush puppies. While Southern Cooking is absolutely delicious, I have to limit it because lets face it, it is high in calories and cholesterol. When I do indulge, it's shrimp and grits, pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, and fried whole okra.
