Swedish Princess cake made by the very talented Malin.
    Butterfly W.

Not many bakers here in the valley are familiar with or make Swedish Princess Cakes. Cafe Bliss does, thanks to talented Malin. I ordered a natural-colored one. They normally are green (have seen done as pink as well). This is one of the best ones we have ever had. Their prices are on the higher end, but the quality is there. And their Swedish coffee is very smooth and enjoyable.

An early morning visit, just after their opening.

My first impression as a walk-in new customer to this café = clean and cheerful! Said hello to the friendly owner (Malin) on my second visit, and learned this is a family-operated business, which is a huge plus for my spending loyalty. The good stuff: So much deliciousness available, all goods are made on-premise by Malin and staff. There are pre-made luncheon sandwiches available, on either hoagie or ciabatta bread. Salads are served as well. Their varieties of quiche (served with small salad or fruit) are appealing, my wife tried the spinach feta quiche and really enjoyed that. Most amazing are their fresh baked goods, featuring multiple Swedish/Scandinavian delights such as cardamom buns, chocolate balls, coffee cake slices, cookies, cakes, cheesecake, pies, cupcakes, and more! Their coffee (Swedish dark roast or American medium roast) is absolutely good, very fresh and tasty. I've not tried any of their their breakfast sandwiches yet. There is even a breakfast "Bliss Burrito" which I will try on an upcoming visit. I would absolutely recommend Café Bliss to those who value great quality and friendly service from a small business.

Enjoyed a couple of ouzo with a drop of water, then had to have the flaming saganaki: graviera with a light flour dusting and deliciously melted with crispy bits. My favorite dishes have always been moussaka and pastistitsio: today I opted for the moussaka because I'm the only one to eat eggplant... my first bite took me back to lunch at the beach many years ago: very tasty and delicious. We also ordered the lamb cutlets, perfectly cooked and so good. Our server was attentive without being constantly hovering, which was great; the ambiance suited me perfectly as it was low key in the best way. The other diners sitting at their tables seemed local, the restaurant to pop in after a round of golf or just to enjoy a home cooked meal. I do enjoy these tucked away gems, their food as well as the service. I feel like we should come back on a saturday evening when the stage is set up and dancing might be happening :) At the end of the meal I only had room for my kafe metrio: I make it in my briki sometimes but it just tastes so much better made at the bar or restaurant. The restaurant is tucked away off the beaten path as it were, but I'm really happy I found Alexander's !!

The light, cheerful ambience flows seamlessly from the airy dining room to the patio--perfect for people-watching as the water dances in the distance. Service? Exceptional. Our waitress was wonderful, but what impressed me most was the teamwork--three staff members, including the manager, checked on our table with genuine care. That's hospitality done right. The food? Fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and full of color. The pizza, while not from a brick oven, is still beautifully done--artisan-style with a crisp crust and just the right bite. A chilled beer alongside makes it even better. And the Avocado Mandarin Spinach Salad? Sharp, balanced, and bursting with personality. Euro Café captures the charm of casual European dining with a sunny Arizona twist. Even without the brick oven, they've mastered the art of doing things right--making it my new favorite brunch stop in Fountain Hills.

It's the kind of locally owned place that has a lot of character. Our waiter recommended the avocado dip and chips, which ended up being one of the best things we ordered. The portion was generous, fresh, and perfect for sharing. We also split the $19 bread board, which is similar to Postino's concept with four breads and different toppings. The hummus was easily our favorite, followed by the BLT. Unfortunately, the salmon and caper spread had a strong odor and tasted off, so none of us enjoyed it. The drinks were good--our friends enjoyed a coconut cocktail while we opted for wine. Overall, I'd give Sofritas 3/5 stars. The atmosphere, drinks, and avocado dip were enjoyable, but the bread board was hit-or-miss for our group.

At this one, the mural is awesome -- it pays homage to vehicles from past television shows. (See how many you recognize! I laughed pretty hard at Thomas the Tank Engine since I watched that with my kids.) I am on a quest to try every sandwich from the Cheba Hut menu and I have worked my way through most of the main menu. I am mostly finishing up the vegetarian section before hitting the grilled cheese. (Peanut butter and honey on wheat is great, BTW!) I mention this because there is a "Secret Stash" menu and this shop features the "Bikini Bottom." When I ordered it, the cashier got excited because, "nobody orders that one!" Apparently, I am that guy. The Bikini Bottom: cream cheese, turkey, onions, pineapple, strawberry jelly, provolone, and bacon. I had it on the Parmesan herb bread with the jalapeño cream cheese option and it was quite tasty. I don't know what is wrong with people :D It is too bad that this location is so far from where I live, but it is nice to know that it is here for when I am far from home and need a "toasted" sandwich. Oh, don't forget the Kool-Aid! (Grape, Blue and Red)
