Can't fake the Foo? They tried. While watching graphic Kung Foo movies! I was headed to the Barons game and wanted a quick early nibble, and I happened upon what I have to think is a brand new fried chicken/boba tea restaurant. I had never noticed it, and I drive up 19th all the time. It's super spacious, clean and inviting- if a little sterile. Furniture ranged from metal and wood benches and stools to metal patio furniture to a conference table. A little odd. The menu was just as haphazard. Boba tea options. Fried chicken. Fried seafood. I went with chicken fingers ($5.99, came with fries and a drink), an extra soda (no soda fountain, only canned drinks), and an extra side of tater tots. It was a cheap meal. The food only took about 10 minutes (I was the only patron in the restaurant) and came out super hot. The chicken fingers looked EXACTLY like Foosackly's (which famously claims, "You Can't Fake The Foo!"). Same thing: strips of chicken breast meat in a light batter. However, you could tell that the oil was shared with their seafood options. Not the best. Crinkle cut fries were crispy and well seasoned. The tots were crispy. The ranch that came as a side was acidic and very generic. The honey mustard was something else entirely. It had a weirdly fruity taste to it and looked oily. The sauces were terrible. The most off-putting part of the whole experience was having to watch kung fu horror movies while I ate. The cashier was having dinner behind me and was watching a movie that showed a pre-teen boy being whipped to blood, a woman being dismembered in a dryer, and several folks being violently flayed alive and tortured. I had stumbled upon this place walking around one day and was very intrigued by the sheer cuteness of this place. They had huge pictures of boba drinks on their windows and their logo is a chicken drinking a boba tea. How cute! I immediately had to look this place up and see what they were all about. It seems like it was a full boba cafe that also served chicken, fried fish, and shrimp. Interesting combination! I knew I was gonna have to try this place. I finally got to this past weekend, and it was a great experience. Since it's a very small business, I expected their hospitality to be top notch and they really were oh so very sweet to me. Imagine Chick-fil-a workers times 1,000. I placed a pick up order, and they had my order ready within five minutes of me placing it. That showed me they really cared about their business and wanted to be punctual. My boba and food were wrapped very securely, but I ended up just eating it there since I wanted to eat my food hot. I ordered the four piece chicken tenders, fries, and a side of coleslaw. The fries were getting a little cold, but that was no fault of theirs since it took me longer than anticipated to pick up my order. The coleslaw was okay. I'm not a huge fan of coleslaw in general, but I did like that theirs was very finely shredded. It was a little watery, so I would recommend them using a little less mayo. The chicken tenders were very different from any that I had ever eaten. I was afraid it was a tad undercooked since it was so soft and juicy, but it turns out they use chicken thighs instead of breast meat to make their chicken tenders. They rave online that they make the best chicken tenders, but I can't say they were the best I've ever had. I don't think I would order their chicken tenders again, but they are just such nice people that I would definitely come back to try their chicken wings or shrimp. That is what good hospitality does. It makes you want to go back! Finally, the highlight of my visit was my strawberry boba milk tea. I had told the lady at the front it was possibly the best boba I've ever had. I definitely want to try more flavors they offer. I sure hope Cafe Crispy can do well in this location and are here for the long haul! read more

This place is CHEAP and the portions are pretty decent so the food is definitely worth it but it's not mind blowingly good. I got the fried chicken sandwich but a friend of mine got the grilled chicken and that was definitely my favorite dish on the table. My only complaint is the boba balls which were almost inedible. The milk tea they served with it was delicious so it was disappointing that the boba was prepared so badly but I will definitely be returning and giving it another shot because the staff was so incredibly friendly and I believe in second chances! read more

We really wanted to like it. A new place opened up with a focus on fried chicken and boba tea? Definitely cause for excitement. After looking forward to trying for a few weeks, we finally found the opportunity to make our way downtown for it. The good first. Cute store front with inside and outside seatings. Employees are super nice, both at the register and in the back (some interaction when you get your food). The price is really good for their food (drinks are on par with other places), especially when everything seems so expensive these days. Five stars in these areas. The bad....well, I am sad to say.....the food. First of all, the boba. They do not make them fresh daily....in fact, they do not make it fresh on-site at all! Apparently the bobas are made at a sister store and brought over. You can clearly tell it has been refrigerated and isn't fresh. Zero bounce and chewiness to the bobas, super terrible. Can't recommend at all. Then comes the fried chicken. We ordered a fried chicken two-piece combo to try. As previously stated, the price is cheap. $4.99 for a two-piece combo. We only order one combo to start with just to try. They asked if we wanted spicy or regular, so we asked for one piece of each. We ended up with two spicy. That's fine, whatever. Except here's the problem. The spicy is not spicy seasoning mixed into the batter. No. What they do is dump a whole bucket of seasoning on top of the fried chicken to try to make it spicy. Except it's not really spicy... but when you bite into it, you get a mouthful of powdery seasoning. It's truly terrible. Fries were below average. The best thing to combo was the small donut that comes with the combo. So there were two of us. We did not finish the single two-piece combo that we ordered. Ate maybe 40% and tossed the rest. Obviously, we were still hungry. So we went next door and had a gyro plate instead. So sad this place was so far below expectations! read more
