Everyone loves a good lasagna, and Homewood Gourmet has the best! I've served crowds their pans of lasagna for over ten years - from being the hospitality room mom (veggie lasagna and regular) to taking lunch to my doggie daycare (shoutout to Dog U, they are epic!), everyone loves it. I stopped in for lunch at their new location. It is tucked away behind some of the other new restaurants in the area and if you didn't know it was there it would be easy to miss. I chose the Pesto Chicken Sandwich with a side of Pesto Pasta Salad. In hindsight probably should have picked a different side option for variety but since I really like pesto pasta it was not too much for me. The focaccia was not quite what I expected but I still thought the sandwich was good. The pasta salad was great! I would order both again but I think on my next visit will try the shrimp or fish po-boy and/gumbo. I also grabbed a cranberry oatmeal cookie to-go which was excellent. They have several varying size (2-6) of tables for dining in as well as a couple of small tables for 2 outside. You can also pick up pre-made dishes to take home for dinner or breakfast and catering options. Just stopped in for lunch with my parents who were in town for Dr appt. They were serving my mom's favorite soup Tomato basil which we all had a cup. Mom's grill cheese could not have any more cheese stuffed into it and of course she had to do the cheese pull test for which it passed gloriously. Dad had a huge fresh salad in which he advised my mom that he wouldn't need any more salad this week. I had the turkey/cranberry roll up which I had to save half due to chef stopped by table and 'gifted' us some fresh cream cheese king cake! He made a connection with my dad ( a Polish thing IYKYK). So......first of all, this restaurant is NOT closed......or at least they are open again. I arrived shortly after 11 a.m. and there was no customers in the restaurant yet. I ordered the roasted vegetable sandwich with gumbo as the side. The staff is nice and efficient. While I know this restaurant has potential based on other reviews, I have to admit my lunch was only average at best. I liked the gumbo as it had a lot of vegetables along with pieces of sausages and a piece of chicken. However, some of the rice inside the gumbo was hard, I am not sure if it's because it's old or just not cooked through. The gumbo was served lukewarm. The roasted vegetables inside the sandwich were.....sour. That's the only flavor even though there were squash, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, etc., but all you taste is sour. I guess they marinated all the vegetables in a vinegar based marinade so the vegetables would keep longer? The problem is then they do not at all taste like fresh roasted vegetables. Will probably come back at least one more time and try something else to get a better sense of the other five star reviews.....but I'm definitely not ever getting the roasted vegetables again, ha. read more

What a great little spot with delicious food. I wanted to grab a quick bite. I grabbed a turkey wrap and a cup of gumbo. The turkey wrap was so fresh tasting. Little bits of cranberry in evry bite. Got two casseroles -- chicken broccoli, and rice and jambalaya. The chicken, broccoli, and rice was excellent. Both my wife and I greatly enjoyed it. We plan to have it regularly. The jambalaya was good. I enjoyed it. My wife can't eat tomatoes so she could not try it. We also got a container of chicken salad. It was excellent. I had the Shrimp Poboy for lunch today. It was an excellent choice. The shrimp were huge and fresh. The batter was seasoned well and a little salty. The French bread was on point, crunchy and soft; just like in the Big Easy. The poboy was dressed with fresh tomato slices, pickles, and a remoulade sauce that was creamy and flavorful. Thanks to Mandy M for the recommendation. Homewood Gourmet is a hidden gem. This modest restaurant is tucked in a strip center that is located just off of Highway 31. It is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter. The staff is welcoming and friendly. I met Chef Chris, and it is obvious that he takes great pride in his business. He was busy in the kitchen, but was also spotted working the register, delivering food, and checking on customers. Parking at the strip center was horrendous. The lot was full at lunchtime. After a few minutes I found a spot, but I discovered the parking spots are super narrow. Door dinking hell. The order was chicken and sausage gumbo and a beef and blue sandwich. Read that twice. This is a what I got versus what I ordered situationship. The gumbo look pretty but I notice like sliced ham or some crap in so I picked it apart and I'll be damned if sliced turkey or ham is all throughout the damn gumbo. The beef according to the menu is WARMED SLICED BEEF SAUTÉED WITH ONIONS AND BLUE CHEESE!!!!!!!! I was give a thick ass slice of meatloaf with blue cheese and onions on top. This shit is deplorable. Couldn't contain myself and called. THIS WOMAN TOLD ME THEY CHANGED RECIPE AND THEY NOW USE MEATLOAF ON THE SANDWICH DUE TO THE PRICE OF BEEF!!!!!!!! I say Clearly the menu doesn't say this ma'am. This should be updated. She says and I know and She chuckled and said she's sorry. I totally get business struggling due to Covid but damn this is not okay. Chris grew up in New Orleans and sharpened his culinary skills by working for famous chefs likeChef Emeril Lagasse at Emeril's Restaurant. Laura is also an acclaimed chef in her own right and together they run the successful Homewood Gourmet. As the name implies, they are located in Homewood nestled in a rather cramped and busy shopping center off Montgomery Hwy. If you know where TCBYs is , you'll know where Homewood Gourment is. They are right between Bedz Express and Supercuts. Their small front door actually reflects their quaint interior. As with the shopping center's parking spaces, space is very limited with 3 small tables in front of their counter and a few more small tables located a top a long flight of stairs. They have an excellent wait staff that checked on us frequently, but you place your order at their counter and then take a ticket marker to your table. Your fabulous meal will be delivered to your table moments later. Their "menu" is not actually printed, but "drawn" and takes up the entire wall across from the ordering counter. There were so many to choose from, but as mentioned I went with their classic shrimp poboy and a small cup of gumbo. Their specialties include a Baby Blue Salad with grilled chicken, fish or shrimp and Cobb Salad with fresh fruit. They also have a list of Prepared salads, rollups such as smoked turkey and cranberry and your more traditional sandwiches like turkey, ham, cheddar and swiss. In addition to this daily menu, they also have a thriving catering business that can cater intimate dinner parties, wedding receptions to corporate events. Battered and fried to perfection, the shrimp were complemented with sliced fresh tomatoes, pickles and finished with their remoulade sauce all nestled between 2 toasted halves of their fresh made poboy bread. Second review. I've probably visited this place 6 or seven times and every time the shrimp po boy gets better and better. Today i tried a different side instead of my usual gumbo. I got the Asian noodles which were tasty but I'll probably try something different next time. Also got the bread pudding which was being freshly baked as I waited for my order. Although I received a refrigerated portion it was still delicious once I got home and heated it. The only thing is, the portion size is very small in comparison to the $3.80 that you pay for it. 7/29/17 Nothing worst than getting all the way home and realizing they made your meal without love. The shrimp po boy was probably the worst I've ever had along with the bread pudding being the hard end piece. This will likely be my last time coming for a while because on top of the food being less than, he service by who I assume to be the assistant manager was less than. She was quite rude and this isn't the first time I've felt like this. It's one thing to be a busy restaurant but today wasn't one of those days. I expect common courtesy when I enter a restaurant. How have I never eaten here before? This place is amazing. I went in searching for a really good King Cake for my office Fat Tuesday party and I came out having eaten an unexpected and delicious meal. Let's start with the ambience. Everything about this restaurant reminded me of New Orleans, from the distinctly NOLA artwork, to the mildly disgruntled employees, to the limited space in the restaurant. I ordered the shrimp Po boy and chicken and sausage gumbo. I found myself a seat in the quaint little upstairs loft and waited. My food was brought up very quickly. The shrimp Po Boy was one of the best I've ever eaten. From the first bite into the perfectly crunchy-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside French bread, i knew I was dealing with a superior sandwich. The shrimp were perfectly battered in a lightly browned, thin and flavorful crust and were topped with a House-made remoulade and pickle. Chicken and sausage gumbo has never been my go to when it comes to gumbo, as I usually prefer the seafood variety. However, they did not offer a seafood option, so I went with it. It was delicious. I have heard about Homewood Gourmet from other Yelpers in the past. And once I had their food at a recent food festival, I decided that I needed to go soon. Based on their Louisiana background and what I had at the festival, I had a idea in my head of what it was going to be. But when I got there, it was different. They definitely had a few heavier options. But overall it seems to be a lighter fare lunch place. As someone who is eating lower carb items and not wanting a salad, there weren't too many options. So the low carb was thrown out the window and I went with the Shrimp po-boy with a side of gumbo. This inside is pretty small. A few tables on the left and the counter and glass case on the right. The person helping us was very friendly. So we ordered quickly and headed upstairs where there were a few more tables. We did have to wait long until our food arrived. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of shrimp in the sandwich. Skimping on the seafood is usually my concern with most places outside of Louisiana. But these shrimp were huge with a very flavorful, perfectly fried batter. The bread certainly had the consistency of the bread from Louisiana. But it definitely wasn't the same as what I get when I go back to New Orleans. The remoulade was incredible too! It was an amazing sandwich. But still didn't hit the authentic NOLA po-boy mark. Which is fine by me. I will take a really good sandwich any day of the week. The gumbo had the complex flavor that is based with a really good roux. It was full of sausage and the rice to gumbo ratio was perfect. Honestly some of the better gumbo I have had. Great experience, great food, five stars. read more

This is a fun, cool place nestled in a strip mall in Homewood! I have been twice with friends and family. The sandwich selection at lunch is nice and diverse. They also have a salad and soup options. Another Yelp find! LB and I were debating on an appropriate dinner destination, and I suggested Homewood Gourmet since it seemed like a healthier option. As much as I like burgers and fries, sometimes you need to at least pretend to be healthy. My Beef & Blue sandwich was $8.25 and included one side. After some deliberation (seriously, all the sides looked fresh and enticing), I went with the Israeli couscous. I wish that the sandwich was a little larger and that there was a stronger blue cheese flavor because I love me some cheese that is blue, but overall, it was delicious. The bread was a brioche since I bit into it and was immediately reminded of croissants. The couscous with veggies was a generous heaping. A generous tasty heaping with a pleasant dressing. LB enjoyed her chicken salad so thumbs up from us. The nice man helping us was patient as we decided what we wanted, and he seemed really eager to please and wanted us to be happy with our meals. Hints of New Orleans included gumbo as a soup of the day and king cakes. Fresh flowers, including purple tulips, on the small tables were a cute touch. It looked like there was more seating upstairs, but we didn't check it out. Come before they close at 7. You can also pick up casseroles and buy their sides by the pound. Went here to get a quick bite yesterday. Not one worker was wearing a mask while preparing food. On top of that, they weren't very friendly. Paid $20 for 4 small sides and a drink. Wanted to try something new for lunch but didn't feel like walking in to eat or pick up so I ordered for curbside pick up and I didn't realize I had been near this place several times but I ordered the grilled ham and cheese with potato salad and sweet tea. It was so delicious the potato salad was addictive and I had plan to save it to eat for dinner later but couldn't resist and ate all of it. Also the sweet tea was some of the best. I met Franklin yesterday. Super nice guy so I decided to swing by the restaurant for some lunch. The restaurant is small and set up like a traditional deli with a large cooler in front of a line with the menu written on a chalk board on the wall. I had the blue salad and it was great. The fresh fruit and baby greens were perfect for a quick lunch. The chicken soup was perfectly balanced and wasn't too heavy to enjoy on a hot summer day. The restaurant is set up mainly for takeout or catering, but the mismatched tables inside were a great place to sit and enjoy the day. I wrapped up my visit with an oatmeal cookie that ha the perfect level of nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Probably the best oatmeal cookie I've ever had. Me and my girlfriend found this little place and thought we'd give it a try. She went with the shrimp Poboy with chicken gumbo as a side. The shrimp were jumbo so very filling. Had great flavor. Not sure if the remoulade was homemade but was very good. The gumbo was very flavorful with a nice spice. Not too much. I went with the chicken pesto with a side of bow tie pasta. Again, super flavorful. The owner, Chris, brought us a cup of the butternut squash soup as well to try and it might've been the best soup I've had. All around food and hospitality was fantastic. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was because of the layout. It seems like they need a bigger space because they had prep stuff everywhere. This is so good! Everything from start to finish is money in the bank. I have eaten their catered food many times. They have a tent over at Pepper Place on Saturdays. I have eaten in their store before. I have gotten their meal pans of delicious bake at home for family style goodness. Some kind of chicken dish once. I've had a lot of their veggies, salads, etc. Seriously, I do not remember having anything from here I did not like. Very local, very friendly, very good all around feels for this spot.
