There was not much flavor to it and it was incredibly water-runny (and flavored). This wateriness was probably due to the fresh lettuce and diced tomatoes. I thought that maybe the tzatziki sauce might add some flavor, but again was underwhelmed by a lack of flavor. Consistency, however, was good - it wasn't too thick and wasn't watery. For $13+, it would've been nice to have something that was more flavorful, but portion wise I'd say it was worth it. read more

For my fellow baba ganoush heads, here's a head's up: You can purchase baba ganoush at Cafe de Miro at Grand Rapids Downtown Market, but it's in big to-go tubs, and they don't sell pita separately. So you won't have anything to eat it with if you wanted to eat it at the market! But I guess if you lived locally and you were looking for some baba ganoush to go, and you already had pita or some other tasty thing to eat it with, then you'd be golden. This baba ganoush quagmire probably applies to no one but me and one other person, but I thought I'd mention it, in case some other soul really wanted eggplant dip and pita. I don't want you to be disappointed, my brother and/or sister in baba ganoush. So, no baba ganoush for me, but I did order a tasty falafel rice number. It was called the Green Falafel rice bowl, and it came with mini falafel, hummus, lettuce, parsley, cucumbers, onion and tahini, served over rice. The falafel rice bowl was the perfect mix of savory and light freshness. I was visiting the Grand Rapids area, and sometimes when you're traveling, it's difficult to find light meals. The Green Falafel bowl is it! It's light but still satisfying. Inexplicably, Cafe de Miro also makes and sells their own fresh pasta. I'm so glad Cafe de Miro has a space in the Downtown Market. I've been to their original location in Breton Village and have always enjoyed it. The Downtown Market is more conveniently located for us, so Nate and I stopped by for lunch. The menu includes a couple of breakfast options, paninis, soups, salads, appetizers, dips, rice bowls, pitas/sandwiches, and fries bowls. I love the variety and that there's something for everyone, including some healthier options. We went with the Athens gyro rice bowl and added a side of kale salad. Our food was prepared quickly and packaged nicely. The included hand wipe was appreciated! I was very impressed by the freshness and quality of the meal, which was around $16 before tip. The bowl included strips of beef and lamb, parsley, onion, tomato, feta, and tzatziki with the rice. The side of kale salad was a generous portion and was super bright and flavorful without being overly dressed. The meat was tender and well seasoned, and the rice was amazing. We both kept mentioning how buttery and delicious it was! The size was great to split between the two of us as we weren't super hungry. I really loved this meal and would eat it again any day. While walking around the market, we decided to grab an early dinner from Cafe de Miro! The menu had tons of options and the staff was very friendly. I went with the Athens Gyro with fries and my wife had the Chicken Gyro with a Green Salad. Honestly, everything was delicious but the fries were very average. They could make the fries into more of a Greek fry with olive oil, seasoning, and feta and the it would be fantastic without increasing costs too much. The gyros were very generous in size and full of meat. My wife enjoyed her side salad which was fresh and also a great portion! Overall, another great addition to the Downtown Market! Food was cold when we received it. Ordered harissa steak and hot honey chicken. They both contained honey mustard which wasn't mentioned on the menu. There wasn't nothing harissa about the steak or hot about the chicken. Bread was tough. Cafe de Miro offers the best Kofta I've had in Grand Rapids thus far. After frequenting the Breton village location, I was a big fan of their Paninis, but since they didn't have my go-to bell pepper and goat cheese panini, I opted for a kofta bowl instead. Everything was freshly prepared, as I watched the chef assemble my bowl. While the portions weren't as large as I would've hoped, it was certainly a meal of quantity over quality, true to the Mediterranean mindset. The grains were hearty, perfectly cooked, and a perfect compliment for the kofta. The salad was fresh, bright, and offered contrast and acidity for the meal. The kofta itself was incredibly tender, juicy, and almost fell apart upon touch. I could taste a bit of starch in it, which helped it achieve that beautiful texture. My friend got the lentil soup and said it was also delicious If you're looking for a cost friendly, healthy, and delicious meal next time you're at the downtown market, definitely give this place a try! read more

I love the Breton Village location and had to try this out when we stopped by on MLK day for lunch. It's right where Bliss & Vinegar used to be. I love their açaí bowl because of the honey and crunchy granola sprinkled in. My toddler especially loves it as a yogurt lover so it's the perfect item for us to share. Service was sloooooooooow. If I hadn't already paid I would have walked away. No obvious reason for the delay either. No line, just me. I ordered the Athens gyro on pita bread. The sandwich looked like it was going to be perfect, but the shredded meat was fatty and chewy. I tried for several bites and then had to give up and get lunch at another vendor. Fortunately for me I was eating at the market and had other options, I would have been super sad to have taken this back to my home or office and then found it to be inedible. Young man running the register was charming, and clearly product quality is not his responsibility, so I didn't feel like returning the sandwich and causing a fuss on his shift. Would have been 1 star, but since he was so polite it's 2. This was the most lovely experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I had went there with my mother and the owner was absolutely kind and so welcoming. My mother had ordered one item from the menu, but then decided she wanted to order something different. She talked with the owner and said she would be totally fine ordering a new one and paying for it, but he had them just make it for her. He gave her both the original order she made and the new item she wanted without charging her for it. It was beyond kind and I couldn't have been more grateful for his immense kindness. If you are around the Downtown Market, I highly recommend going here to get food. The food is amazing and the owner is an absolute gem! read more

My husband picked us up some gyros last night (I got the chicken and he got the "Athens" which is lamb&beef). The gyros were fresh, the sauce was just right and the pita was pillowy and soft- so good! Each gyro came with a salad of sorts that was a nice compliment to the gyro. This is the first time I'm leaving a review and here is why. My daughter's baby shower at Downtown Market was catered by Cafe de Miro and it was very disappointing. I was extremely embarrassed to present the food to my guests. The chicken kabob was burnt and dry. The spanakopitas was not cooked all the way and instead of crispy it was mushy and burnt. we ordered the saute green beans and we got bean stew which wasn't bad but was not what I had asked for and had confirmed with the owner. In all it did not seem to have been prepared by professional. The food was much better at tasting session and absolutely not the same at the party. the owners are very nice but not professional. I ordered a Gyro and Greek Fries. The gyro was pretty substantial. It could easily be split if you want a lunch on the lighter side. The meat is housemade (a rarity) which was a great addition, but I wish it had a bit more oomph to it flavor wise. The Greek fries were ok, they do provide a large portion of fries. I was hoping they would toss the fries in sumac and other Kurdish/Greek seasonings before topping them. That way you had flavor in every bit and not just the fries at the top. I definitely want to try the Kurdish tea and Dolmas next time! Overall the service was pretty quick for a Friday around noon at the market. I came here with high hopes as I love Middle Eastern food. I ordered the falafal plate on rice. It was quite pricey but I guess everything is now. The falafal itself was okay. But they placed hardly any sauce on the falafal, and the humous side included was also extremely paltry. The rice as just white bland rice, nothing to write home about, and it formed the main portion of the meal. The salad was just a few small chunks of tomato and iceberg lettuce, and it tasted decidedly sour. I was honestly pretty offended at the poor quality of this meal. Won't be back. read more
