We came here on a rainy day to pick up some hot chocolate and beignets. We went through the drive-through because we had some impatient small-humans in the back seat who wanted to eat on the run. The service was not so great - not the sweet, southern hospitality that we were expecting. The items came out at a reasonable speed, and everything tasted fine, but the lack of customer service made us feel very uncomfortable about the whole transaction. I'm sure we'll be back because there isn't another place like this, but hopefully, next time we'll be greeted with a smile instead of a scowl. read more

Is the Real thing and it taste delicious! Friendly cook!! He's also the trash guy and the table wiper and everything else, I think! He's a very nice man and made us feel welcome. CAUTION!!!! DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU ARE WEARING A BLACK SHIRT!! Coffee and donuts (French donuts), that's all on the menu. It's refreshing to see they haven't succumbed to the fad of naming their coffee something other than small, medium and large. I'm not a fan of coffee but I do appreciate a cup of café au lait along with my beignets. Always a great combination. This location can get crowded at times due to its small dining area. There is outside tables in front, but depending upon the weather, you will want to sit inside. Service here has always been great and the beignets are always fresh and hot. read more

I thought the beignets were all right. Just basic dough with powdered sugar on top. The cafe au lait was pretty basic too. I could have made it at home in Miami. But honestly, nothing beats experiencing New Orleans like a big plate of beignets and coffee. Had it for breakfast before my flight back to my Miami. First off - I love cafe du monde. I go to the one at lakeside every time I'm there and I love the one in the French Quarter. Today was my first time at the one in mandeville. It will most likely be my last. I took my 2 and a half year old son and my 8 week old daughter. We sat down and all we could hear was the employees complaining about another employee. They dropped F bombs at least twice and didn't care about customers at all. I later found out that one of these ladies was actually the assistant manager, Tammy. I watched a lady stand there for at least 6 minutes before they acknowledged her. After my coffee I went up to buy some items. The lady took a long time and then said she couldn't use the register because Tammy was on the phone. Finally she rang me up. My total should have been $21. First she rang me up at $36 and couldn't understand why I was telling her she was wrong. Then she rang me up at $136. Tammy came out of the office with a bad attitude and didn't even acknowledge me while she voided it all and rang me up. I'll stick to the other locations and give this one a miss. ....I gave an extra star for the lovely lady cleaning the tables. She seemed to be the only person working. The only thing this location is missing is the French Quarter and the characters who fill that area giving it the flavor its known for by so many. The beignets were amazing (does anyone else do them as perfectly as Cafe du Monde?) and I did quite enjoy my hot chocolate. My friends seemed to enjoy their coffee and the drive through was convenient for us, too! If you can't spend time in line or get a bit anxious in the crowds at the Decatur Street location in the French Quarter AND you're driving around the area this is an option for you! read more

Wow... Not that I was expecting the French Quarter but c'mon. It was lousy. I was trying to avoid the crowd for Red Dress Run and went here with the kids. Had none of the charm as the other, the quality was so-so, and they were rude (not that they're friendly in the Quarter) but if you don't have ambiance going for you, you better compensate. I absolutely love Cafe Du Monde. We visit every time we are in Mandeville. However my most recent visit was terrible. We orders 2 orders of beignets. They were practically raw in the center. When I brought them to the counter the cook stated that was how they were supposed to be cooked. We left them in the table uneaten. I've eaten my fair share of beignets and you are not supposed to remove a large piece of uncooked dough from the center. Never again will I visit this establishment. read more

I always visit this location when on the northshore to stay with family. When I was a kid, there was only the location in the French Quarter, but lucky for all of us that they branched out! I really do love their beignets more than any others in town. There's just something about them. However, the Café Au Lait just isn't as good as it used to be. Maybe they've changed the reciped a bit over the years? It used to be very smooth, but now it's much more bitter.
