What a sweet surprise this little spot is. My husband and I took an anniversary trip to the dunes and wanted a nice place to get dinner. The patio here is super cute but we actually sat inside. We were quickly greeted by our waitress who was very chatty but super sweet and helpful. We ordered a bottle of wine and the pizza bread to start - both of which were delicious. We also had the cafe salad which is a take on a Caesar that was out of this world, I loved the fresh lemon it was served with and that it was lighter than a normal Cesar. For our meals we split the chicken and sausage dish as well as the braised brisket tortellini, the chicken dish was good but I am still dreaming about that tortellini is was so tasty!

We were driving back to Michigan from Illinois and Decided to stop and Have a Lovely late Lunch. cafe Farina is open most days for Lunch and Dinner. We were warmly welcomed. Had a charming waiter and the staff is Friendly! It was quite busy on a Tuesday off season for most Lakeside Towns. We went with some of the Classics and they did not disappoint! The portions were. Large enough to share. And bring home leftovers. We absolutely enjoyed everything we ordered and even commented maybe some of the best we have ever had! Being originally from Chicago we were thrilled to have such an amazing experience in this sleepy lil Indiana Town. The fun decor is that of a race track with a lovely settings on the table. If you are passing by Michigan City. Looking for a Day Trip Destination out of Chicago for An Afternoon Drive or live in and around Indiana. Don't wait to make a trip to have a wonderful experience! We look forward to our next visit! Ciao!

Anytime I come into the area, I have to stop at one of Farina's restaurants. Ordered the Chicken Limone today and the Mozzarella sticks, so delicious. Love the atmosphere also

when you walk in you are greeted and seated right away. Lighting and space is cozy great place for a cute date night. They also have a bar areas where you can watch the games and get good drinks. Now the food is delicious, they have an open kitchen so you know you can trust the quality of you food. Our waiter Eduardo is amazing considering I went in there with my 11 month old. Super friendly and very attentive!

The dishes were good, though I expected larger portions for the price. I went during a quieter time, and the service was attentive and pleasant.

Who knew Michigan City had a restaurant scene? Farina was a pleasant surprise I happened to spot while driving through Michigan City. The vibe is a smallish, cozy Italian restaurant offering outdoor patio seating, with an urban feel due to the exposed brick interior, chill/lounge music, dim lighting, and cozy bar. I loved my delicious Cacio e Pepe, served with a grilled lemon, perfect for drizzling over the pasta and would have also enjoyed a small bread offering to accompany the dish. Their menu featured classic pasta dishes, sandwiches with a twist, salads and a variety of apps. In addition to the food, the service was also great and I'll be taking friends along on my next visit!

Today was my second visit to Cafe Farina for a much needed lunch and I have to say how my experience was beyond 5-Star! I'm a guy that loves to sit at the bar to relax and Casie brought an excellent-vibrant energy for every one. I met her earlier this year and she was dynamic during the winter time as well. My Parm Bros. sandwich with meatballs was scrumptious and delightful as the Moscow Mule washed it down my stomach to put a bow on my lunch. The meatballs were seasoned and prepared just right with Parmesan cheese and marinara! I even grabbed an Italian Hoagie to trace back to Chicago for either dinner later on or possibly lunch on Thursday! Thank you to everyone that made my second visit to Cafe Farina memorable and fulfilling! I do plan on bring my guys here for as part of some weekend getaway coming soon!!

We tried this place on a whim because it was right next to our airbnb. The atmosphere was amazing with a super local and artsy vibe. We went at 7 pm without reservations and luckily got sat right away, even though the hostess mentioned they weren't supposed to take walk-ins but would seat us anyway. That was a bit odd to hear, but I understand since it was a Saturday. It was extremely busy and I'm hard of hearing. Try to sit outside on a busy night if you have hearing issues! The service was quite slow. I ordered the oysters, which were just okay, and the mozzarella sticks, which were huge but had a burnt taste like they were fried in old oil. On the bright side, the wine was good, and the chocolate cake was yummy. I'd like to give it another try on a weekday when it might not be as busy.

Being a store owner of 12 retail chicago locations, I did not feel it was handled properly. I always appreciates customer calling me direct with an issue. The dessert brownie tasted more like a dried piece of chocolate cake, which we did not eat after 1bite. I called the next day to share with the manager. The hostess from the night before , actually remembered us, said the manager would get back to us, she would relay our experience. Never heard back. It's going to be hard to recommend the restaurant to our Chicago relatives & friends who visit & stay in New Buffalo all year long.

This IS midwestern comfort food style Italian. Which means lotsa cheese. And while I don't think they "house make" the pasta-dough or noodles (not Albano's or such) but they have some great sauces and if you like garlic well brother, have they got some garlic for you:) The garlic and macadamia nut sauce is unique and wow does it pack a FLAVOR. And last but not least THEIR GARLIC CESAR DRESSING IS ADDICTIVE. I am not kidding, I have been going in and buying a pint or a quart container once a week or two. I put that stuff on salad sure, but dip a slice of pizza on it WOW or on their Italian beef. They have standard frozen fried calamari but they doctor it with their own hand dipped doe and it is at least on par with most Midwest mom and pops. The only fresh squid is main and Lincoln.

We started with the meatball appetizer, which was outstanding. The meatballs were incredibly light, tender, and flavorful, and the accompanying focaccia was just as impressive. It was fresh, crusty, and perfect for soaking up every bit of sauce. For my entrée, I ordered the rigatoni. The house-made pasta was cooked perfectly, and the slightly spicy tomato sauce had just the right amount of heat. The generous portion of sausage made the dish hearty without being overwhelming, and the portion size was spot on. My wife ordered the ravioli, which was served in a rich and creamy sauce that was absolutely delicious. Like my dish, the fresh, house-made pasta really stood out and elevated the entire meal. I made a 6:30pm reservation and noted the occasion, and the staff sweetly sat us right by the window with a stunning view of Lake Michigan. I started the night with an Aperol Spritz. While their menu doesn't explicitly label items as gluten-free, I had called ahead and knew they could accommodate me. The appetizer options were a bit limited, so we shared the Brussels to start, followed by the corn and tomato risotto for my main, which was delicious. Our server was relatively new but incredibly attentive, even making sure to double-check with the kitchen that everything was safely GF. They offer multiple gluten-free options for mains and desserts, including GF pasta. We shared the ricotta cheesecake, and our server also brought out a complimentary chocolate mousse with orange slices and a birthday candle. Don't let the unlabeled menu scare you off--the staff is wonderful, the food is great, and you can't beat the lakeside view!

The reviews were mixed but they had been around since 1939 so they must be doing something right. We decided to give it a try on a Saturday night towards the end of summer. As instructed on their website, we called ahead and the hostess said it would be 30 - 45 minutes from when we called at 6:30. We arrived a little before 7:00 to a crowded parking lot (valet only) and people waiting. It looked like what you would expect from an old school Italian restaurant - lots of lions and other statues, a cool outdoor dining area with a screened in area, a wood burning pizza oven, a lively bar and multiple rooms for dining. So far so good. We get to the hostess and she says that they recently got busy (hard to believe) and that it would be 30 or so minutes or 7:30 ish until our table. We grab a drink, listen to the entertainment in the bar and people watch. Around 7:30 we check in and are told it would be a few minutes. We should have left at that point. A few minutes turned into another 30 minutes and we finally sat down at 8:00. Ordered promptly with a frazzled waitress - gluten free pizza (they have a pizza oven in the middle of the room where we were dining), a chicken dish and gluten free pasta. Everything came with soup or salad as well - our waitress said that the minestrone tastes good with cheese and pepper (it was more like a pasta e fagioli in consistency). The pizza comes out and it was clearly undercooked and as we couldn't find out waitress and were hungry, we choked down a few of the pieces (and tasted the undercooked pizza it well into the night). The soup arrived and as accurately described was tasteless and more like porridge but the cheese and pepper helped. Main dishes - chicken that gave airline chicken a run for it's money, with some pasta in an Alfredo or some kind of white sauce and a half an ear of corn (the best thing on the plate). The GF pasta was way overcooked at it was evident after one bite. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said that we would take it off the bill and asked if I wanted something else. As it was 9:30 and we had a 2 hour ride in front of us, I just said to take if off the bill and to get us our check. The check comes and only 25% of the cost of the pasta is taken off the bill (how does 2 bites of inedible pasta equal 25% off and not 100% off?). I ask the waitress and she said that she spoke to the owner and she said to only take 25% off of the bill. By this point, my wife has called and texted twice as the valet has the car and people are waiting for their cars. I pay the bill and leave, never to return. On the positive side, at least the guy with the oxygen tank got seated before us. Then again, he was waiting when we got there before 7:00... Moral of the story, leave the Italian food to people that know how to make it and respect their customers and waitstaff.
