Wow! What a pleasant surprise! Outside the place doesn't look like much. But inside, I found an adorable, cozy and charming cafe. Cute decor, varnished wood, booths and tables create a casual and homey feel. Our server was so sweet. She was pleasant and helpful. She made recommendations and was spot on. Stopped in on our way home. They weren't that busy and the google reviews we read we decent. The food was okay but it definitely could have used some more seasoning and freshness. The reason for the low score is the lack of telling customers about the extra charges. The kids meal comes with a juice box but we got a soda for them and that was $4.00 extra per kid. Little kids barely drink anything so give parents a heads up before they spend $4.00 for 2 oz of pop. Then I got a burger and the waitress asked "which side I'd like with my burger?" I assumed it came with a side the way she asked. It didn't and that was another $3.00. I don't like being nickel and dimed when we dine out or not being told about extras. The restaurant needs a facelift. The ceiling tiles looked like they were dropping and had water issues. The restroom had a lot of trash on the ground. Stopped into this restaurant on December 26. Joy was our server and let me tell you, she brought all of the joy. We enjoyed French onion soup, Cajun fries, barbecue sandwich, and a Reuben sandwich. I've been here a couple times with big groups and each time the service has been excellent. They've got a good variety on their menu and a decent drink menu. They've also got a nice patio. My only complaint is that the menu doesn't say the burgers come with a side (it does), like the sandwich section does and it doesn't mention the option (or price) to upgrade to fries. read more

Came here during 4th of July weekend, and it was surprisingly empty. Service was very good - the waitress was sweet, friendly, and on top of it. The food was okay. We got: Burger - The burger was okay, it wasn't dry but it also wasn't very flavorful. The fries were good, they were fried perfectly, nothing to write home about but definitely a solid choice. I bet their loaded cheese fries would've been delicious too! Whale Sandwich (their fried cod fish sandwich) - It was okay. The cod was tender, the batter was fried perfectly, but it was very bland. Without the tartar sauce, the entire sandwich, with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, even pickles, were all bland. For baby: Grilled cheese and fruit cup, which we returned for french fries, not realizing that a fruit cup was literally a plastic fruit cup in 100% fruit juice. Pretty standard, buttered up grilled, stretchy, cheesy yumminess. Interestingly enough, they also had clam strips. I have always enjoyed Swingbellys, However...yesterday afternoon they almost lost our business for good. As we entered the hostess just looked at us and didn't say anything so we didn't know if she was actually seating us. We decided to follow her and she just kinda threw the menu's on the the table and started to walk away. I said "Thank you" and she just said "mmmhhhmm" in a very rude way. At this point my husband was ready to walk out or ask for a manager. We had been traveling and I was tired and hungry so I talked him into staying. Our waitress was great & the burgers were great! Not great. I pass by daily and always see a pretty good crowd so I had high hopes. Ordered the Philly Steak Sandwich. To be blunt, it was pretty gross. I didn't eat even a half of a half. My son had the chicken ranch wrap and he said it was okay not great but not terrible. These folks are courteous, seem happy to work here,, and provide very prompt service. Great food at reasonable prices. Plenty of seating and parking. We also stopped at several other restaurants in the area, but all were closed because it was Monday... Must be an Indiana thing! Anyway we stumbled across Swingbelly and stopped in. Wow, what a find! It was burger night (Monday) so we both ordered different burgers and fries, and we both agreed that the burgers were some of the best we ever had. Our server was friendly, helpful, and prompt, so we gladly tipped extra. Prices were fair, approximately $10 each for our decadent burgers and fries. From looking at the tables around our's, all the food looked really good and with large portions. We highly recommend. read more

I have always loved Swingbellys! I remember when they were down by the beach and the food is as great as ever! The new space near karwick is very spacious! We felt comfortable and relaxed with a toddler and baby in tow. However **no changing tables in bathroom. They do have one down a hall in an open closet. No waste bins. *** I love lake perch and Michigan city has it!! Swingbellys has an excellent perch sandwich. *** I just don't like the free chips as much as I would their fries (upcharge of 2.25) *** We also ordered the olive cheeseburger. Excellent! This has always been one of my favorite places to eat, starting back in the old location. There is a large variety on the menu to appease every palate. The signature burger is a go to. The atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming. Some of the staff have been there since the beginning for time and still as friendly as day one. I really enjoy every aspect of this place.
