We got Salzburger Nockerl. That's big portion desert good for two. It was interesting experience m. We didn't like it too much. That's only because it was new to our taste buds. But good quality. The melange is their coffee with milk which was okay. Overall I recommend to go here at least once for the experience.

Simple and cozy. Responsive service. Dated interior - tasty bread and good coffee. I would come back.

No keel whipped meringue type topping with a fruit jam underneath.

So this cafe was somewhat busy, I think known for the dessert we did get. Food was just ok nothing special but we went for the dessert casual little cafe.

Me in joyful anticipation before(!) my wife and I ate the Nockerl.

My wife and I stopped in here for dessert and coffee. The staff was very friendly, especially our server who made all of his patrons laugh. I'm sorry I can't remember his name. We were looking for something we had never had before that was a local treat. We saw the Nockerl was here and wanted to try it. As you can see, it looked amazing, and I'm sure it takes some work and some talent to make this dessert. I do not want to take anything away from the delicacy or difficulty of making this. We were both a little disappointed in the dessert overall. To us, it wasn't really satisfying as a dessert, because in our opinion, it was mostly air. This is like eating a mountain of meringue, off of a lemon meringue pie, perhaps. The bottom was a sweet berry sauce, which was nice. As a whole though, for the price, it did not live up to the hype. Again, this is the only thing that we ate here. We also had a latte, which was very good.

We ate here on August 29, 2024. The food was delicious, the wait staff was atrocious. Food first: We ordered the Escalope of chicken breast in basil cream sauce with noodles, it was delicious and large enough that two of us shared this. We also had the Wiener Schnitzel and enjoyed this as well. We came though, at the recommendation of a friend, to have the dessert - the Salzburg Nockerl. It was a fun and different dessert to try. The base is like a cranberry jam then topped with large, whipped egg white peaks. We shared this between 3 of us and it was a perfect amount. Very tasty and I recommend trying it. Wait Staff: As we entered the restaurant we were told to sit at any open table. We are a party of three and there was only one large table open to sit, so we took this table. The waiter passed by us multiple times, ignoring us and waited on the table behind us, which came in after we did. Finally, the waiter came and to our table and we ordered some water while we looked over the menu. As the waiter went to get our water, a smaller table opened up so we decided to move to the smaller table so that the larger table we were sitting at could be available if a large party came in. We were looking for our waiter to tell him we were moving tables but before we even sat at the new table, or could find our waiter, another waiter was coming towards us and from about 8 feet away from the table, from across the restaurant, this waiter started yelling at us that we just can't switch tables and that we were very rude to just switch on our own. He continued to yell at us and tell us for about 2 minutes, telling us how rude we are. Our original waiter arrived with the water and he too yelled at us for moving. Our original waiter told us that this isn't his table so now we're sitting in another waiters area (I understand this had we placed a large order already, but we had only ordered water at this time). They said that even in America this would be considered rude. We offered to return to the larger table, but they said no, In hind site, we should have gotten up and walked out, but we were hot and hungry and wanted to eat at this restaurant because we had heard the food was good, so we decided to stay. The waiters all continued being rude, although they calmed down a bit because we killed them with kindness. It's interesting because waiter 1 was upset because we moved from his station, but our table was waited on by 3 different waiters throughout our meal, as were the other tables, so we're not sure why this was a big deal. We didn't switch tables to be rude, we understand how restaurants work, but since it was seat yourself when we walked in, we thought we were being helpful by moving to a smaller table so that the larger table could be utilized by a larger party, and we did were actively looking for our waiter while we were moving. Never have we ever been treated so rudely in a restaurant by the staff. Go for the food, but don't expect a happy, smiling wait staff.

Nice little cafe off main square in old town. Can hear live music from performers on main stage in square. Baked trout filet was delicious! Highly recommend!

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here - we were in the mood for gulasch, and Cafe Mozart did not disappoint. Hubs had the Gulaschsuppe mit Gebäck (Gulasch with bread) and it was great. At only €6, it was the cheapest and most filling meal yet. I had the Salzburger Bierfleisch mit Nudein (Salzburg Beer Beef with Butter Noodles, €12.50) and it was also great, though I preferred the spicy flavor of their gulasch. We also had the warm chocolate cake and some drinks, and the overall bill was still very reasonable. Combined with their friendly service and their free WiFi, I would definitely recommend a visit. Tip: There's also a Cafe Mozart Winkle nearby... don't confuse the two. Google Maps led us to the wrong one, but thankfully we'd seen the photo of the entry someone had posted here to know it was the wrong spot.

We popped in, afraid that it might be a bit touristy. But the food was wonderful, the service great, and the prices very reasonable.

Yelpers so…read morerecommended this place that we tried to go our first night in town, and were advised that it might be a 30 minute wait -- but the staff *also* told the 7 parties ahead of us that it might be a 30 minute wait for them, too. So we went elsewhere. We went back the next night at an off-hour and while the food was fine, I would have been highly disappointed had we waited in line for 30 minutes, let alone 2 or more hours. This restaurant has a prime location and a strong online reputation. And perhaps our experience was impacted by the fact that we went at an off-hour. Still, there are much better options, with equal character, available across the city. Consider branching out -- and check my other Salzburg reviews for other alternatives.

We came in around 5pm for an early dinner before our train back to Munich and was able to grab a table for 4. We got incredibly lucky because the restaurant really filled up and by the time we left, there was a long line down the block. Of course we had to have their Original Wiener Schnitzel, which was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We also had a Salzburger Nockerl, which is a classic Austrian soufflé dessert that is considered a culinary symbol of Salzburg. You do have to order this about 20 minutes in advance, so we ordered it when we made our entree orders. This was really good and honestly, more than enough for our group of 4. I also highly recommend their house beer, which was one of the best beers I had during our 10 day trip.

Ok. So you tried to get into Zwettler and it's a two hour wait. I have great news. BARENWIRT…read moreACTUALLY IS WHAT ZWETTLER IS HYPED UP TO BE! Same traditional Austrian menu, but having been to both: vastly better food at Barenwirt. Better beer. Better service. Nicer atmosphere in a 400 year old building. Similar or identical prices. I had the goulash and the roast pork on separate trips. My wife enjoyed the fried chicken and schnitzel. The clear soup with crepe / pancake is terrific. The food is honestly better here than in any of the leading contenders in Salzburg and you will have a MUCH faster, easier time getting seated and served. And as the biggest bonus of all, the food is better here. I promise. Don't wait in the line.

During our first visit to Salzburg in 2009, we asked our hotelier to recommend a genuine Austrian…read morerestaurant - one that did not offer "Menus for tourists" and that prepared authentic dishes. He recommended the Bärenwirt. Returning to Salzburg with our 11 adult children and grandchildren, we wanted them to have a similar authentic experience so we made a reservation at our old haunt, which has been in operations since 1663. Things have changed over the last 16 years. On our first visit, the menu was only in German and our server spoke to us in German until we threw in the towel and admitted, "Ich spreche nicht sehr gut Deutsch. Englisch, bitte?" (I don't speak German well. English, please?) Now, 16 years later, English has become the default and today, the menu is presented in four languages. But the food is still just as authentic and delicious. Taking grandkids who range from 10 to 15 years of age, we were bracing for a few refrains of, "I don't LIKE that! It's weird!" or similar rants, but we heard none of it. All the kids (and parents, too, for that matter) dove gamely into the menu and found things that were to their liking. The menu is large and varied. Main dishes include roast pork, pasta, sausage with roasted potatoes, dumplings, goulash, schnitzel, fried chicken, boiled beef and (of course) bratwurst. The food was good, there was an excellent variety, and it was brought out quickly. Prices for main dishes were quite reasonable, with most under €20. Wiener Schnitzel was the most expensive, at €28,90 but it was an outlier. The only issue I had was the price of the soft drinks. Between our grandkids, they had 10 Cokes - at €5.90 EACH. That was €59 for sodas; more than we paid for all of our beers. My wife was determined that, for dessert, the kids and grands would all taste Kaiserschmarren mit Zwetschkenröster - cut-up pancake with raisins topped with powdered sugar and served with a jam for dipping. A truly Austrian experience that everyone enjoyed, though some more than others. On the night we visited, we encountered several other parties of Americans. I have no way of knowing whether the place has become that popular with visitors or management simply corralled us into the same room. Regardless, it was a very pleasant evening and one I'm sure we will repeat the next time we're in Salzburg.
