This place definitely gives me bodega vibes, and overall, I had a good experience--but I've had two very different visits. The first time I went was during the lunch rush, and honestly, it was amazing. Before I was even fully inside, the staff greeted me, asked if it was my first time, offered me samples, walked me through the menu, and gave recommendations based on what they personally liked and what they thought I'd enjoy. They even explained which sauces paired best with different items. The energy in the restaurant was so upbeat and welcoming, even though they were incredibly busy. They treated every customer that way, and it really made me feel like they value both their employees and their customers. That positive atmosphere definitely stood out. On top of that, the food was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I left thinking, "I'm definitely coming back." My second visit was around the start of the dinner rush, around 6:00-6:30 p.m., and it was a completely different experience. The staff was still kind and polite, but the energy just wasn't the same. It felt much quieter and less engaging than my first visit. I also paid for extra sauce because I remembered wanting more the first time and having to pay for it, but my meal came without any sauce on the food--it was only on the side. When I asked about it, they had no problem fixing it and were very friendly about it, which I appreciated but it just seemed odd that the first time my food was made with sauce included. Unfortunately, the food itself also didn't taste quite as good as it did during my first visit. I haven't tried any of the desserts yet, but they looked incredible. The cake slices are HUGE--I honestly think one slice could easily be shared between two or even three people. At around $7.99, I think they're reasonably priced considering the portion size. Overall, I also found the menu prices to be fair, and there's a great variety of options to choose from. Because my experiences were so different, I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5. If my second visit had matched my first, this easily would have been a five-star review. I'll definitely be back, and next time I'll probably stick to going during lunch since that first experience was so memorable. For anyone wondering what I ordered, I got the chicken and lamb halal over rice. It came with onions, tomatoes, and a few other toppings (I don't eat onions, so I can't remember everything that was included), along with a piece of naan bread. During my first visit, I couldn't decide between breakfast and lunch, and the staff recommended I try the rice platter--and I'm so glad they did because it was delicious. We were passing through on a road trip and needed dinner. Google brought us here as we needed a simple deli sandwich. I will preface this by saying I'm from Philadelphia and ordering something called a Philly steak and cheese outside of the city limits is akin to blasphemy. In Upstate NY it is hard to find Gyros or meat over rice as good as the city...until today. I took one bite and had flashbacks. The chicken is seasoned with a blend of the middle east and Mediterranean. The steak was coated with white sauce, garlic sauce, and hummus. And the salad was panopley of options. My own fault for assuming but maybe it should be a little more specific. I would have liked more mac&cheese but they didn't skimp on the chicken. The selection of premade desserts and drinks was immediately impressive. I was greeted pleasantly upon entry, they asked all the right questions, including a sample of their most popular dishes. I opted to just get the top seller as it smelled delicious in there. It did not disappoint. Ordered food and the delivery guy took my first order than decided not to deliver it. I was told I'd get a refund than to place the order again. I placed the order again and this time my dinner came without the cheesecake. I call back again and ask to speak to the manager and he tells me I have to email their HR department to get it all sorted out. He treated it like it was all a joke. "Over the Cuse Deli" is a popular eatery in Syracuse, NY, known for its deli sandwiches and comfort food. Craving a deli sandwich for dinner the other day, wife and I decided to try one of the newer delis in the area with Over the Cuse. Plenty of selection on their website, they used Boars Head meats which is always a plus. I ordered online on their website at 4PM on a Monday for a 515PM pick up. Website is mostly very easy to use. I showed up a couple minutes early, and my order wasn't ready, but it was ready about 5 minutes after my scheduled pick up time. Its an interesting set up, you go up to one counter with 1 person to order, then your order is made at another counter across the room. A couple tables to sit, HUGE drink selection. I only spoke to the one employee at the order counter, and she was fine, but not overly friendly, but did apologize for the wait when she handed my order. Two full subs with small bags of chips cost around $30. I ordered a full Italian sub and my wife went with the Salsalito turkey. Got it home and we dug in. The only issue was I asked for my sandwich oil to be on the side since I had a decently long drive home and they put it on the sandwich, but it surprisingly didn't make the bread soggy. We both enjoyed our subs, though we thought they overall were a little small, but they were built well and had plenty of meat and toppings. We'd definitely grab a sub again if in the area. read more
