We were excited to try Café Mako and waited outside in the hot weather for about 15 minutes before they opened on the 4th so we could be among the first customers. Unfortunately, things got off to a bit of a rough start after we ordered. We waited another 15 minutes for our drinks, only to find out the order was wrong. We had ordered a strawberry matcha, a mango matcha, and a double matcha, but received two mango matchas instead. When the strawberry matcha was finally made, it was handed to another customer without any explanation (and at the back there was no strawberry drink being made). It looked like the first three or four orders of the morning were all mixed up, so we weren't the only ones affected. Thankfully, once the owner (I believe) realized what had happened, she immediately made our drinks herself and brought us the correct order. We really appreciated how quickly she stepped in. The drinks themselves were excellent. The matcha was rich and flavorful without being overly sweet or too milky, and we thoroughly enjoyed all three drinks. The café is also beautiful, there's easy street parking, and it's only about a two-minute walk from the zoo - making it a great stop before or after your visit.

I'm so excited to see new additions to Chicago's matcha scene! Cafe Mako is a phenomenal new spot. I came in on a Thursday morning, and they weren't too busy--there was plenty of seating available. I went with the Matcha Yuzu Breeze, which I thought was delicious. I really liked that it wasn't too heavy--the soda water made it feel lighter than a typical cream top or milk-based drink. The matcha and yuzu also complemented each other very well. My friend got the Mango Sticky Rice Matcha, which was also phenomenal. That drink was pretty sweet and more of a dessert, but I really liked. Their other menu items all looked fantastic, so I hope to be back to try them! My only complaint is that the drinks are a bit pricier -- it can go up to $10, which is a bit steep. However, I will definitely be back!

The space is super cute and love the cafe aesthetic/design. The staff is all really nice. I ordered the strawberry cloud matcha. It was not as strong as I would have liked so I probably would add an extra shot of matcha to it. It was also a lot sweeter than expected even though I had ordered it half sweet. The only thing that that was frustrating was that I was waiting for 20+ minutes for my mactha and 7 people who ordered after me got their matcha (which was similar to my order) before me. It's a new place so I think they're working out the kinks. I had to flag down the staff twice and remind them about my order.

I have to say I wasn't expecting to like the matcha so much! Yes it was sweet and yes the mango sticky rice matcha was a bit of a trend but it was honestly pretty good and for how crowded it was, service was quick!

I tried the yame matcha iced latte and it was very smooth, mathay, and fragrant. I was satisfied with it. I had it with oat milk and it was delicious, very subtle sweetness which I liked. Price was around $8 a cup. Cute cafe.

The cafe was packed with during the soft opening. It's a pretty small space with around 7 tables and about 20 seats, so it felt a little cramped once it filled up. Service was nice. We were quoted a 15-20 minute wait, but it ended up being closer to 30 minutes. You can watch the staff hand-whisk every matcha, which was really cool. The wait was honestly worth it though. The Mango Sticky Rice Matcha (9.7/10) was one of the best I've had. It had a delicious nutty flavor from the coconut, came with oat milk (which I prefer anyway), wasn't overly sweet, and had a creamy texture with all the layers working really well together. Definitely one of my favorite mango sticky rice matchas in Chicago.

small but cozy cafe specializing in specialty matchas! they get a lot of business so getting your drink might take a while. they use high quality matcha powders from decent origins (yame and uji). I really wanted our mango sticky rice matcha latte ($10.95) using the yame origin but they couldn't do that. it was still great with uji though. the coconut cream on top is delicious and seals the deal. the mango chunks are sweet and fresh. would be nice to have some sticky rice texture. definitely more of a dessert but I'll get it again!

I got the mango sticky rice matcha and my friend got the double matcha. It's a bit overpriced for what you get but it is good. The mango sticky rice matcha ended up being over 12 dollars. I don't regret trying it but I wouldn't come back due to the price. The mango also wasn't blended very well so it sat at the bottom of the drink and the flavors didn't mix together. The staff were nice and they make the matcha in front of you with the ceremonial equipment so that's pretty cool. It's a cute little cafe with free infused water. My rating would be much higher if they lowered the prices. The matcha was a beautiful green and the presentation of the drinks was gorgeous. I also think they gave me oat milk instead of regular milk? It took over the flavor of the drink which was unfortunate.

Located near the Merchandise Mart and overlooking the Chicago River, this location has floor to ceiling windows with amazing views in every direction. Considering the layout, I am sure this place is frequented those who work and/or live nearby. There are plenty of table/chair combos; the perfect setup for laptop and tablet work. I stopped through on Saturday morning and there was a number of people already setup with their respective devices. They also have music playing in the background (at a very acceptable volume level) which for me, just added to the vibe. The staff, were friendly and helpful. Add to that, they did an awesome job of managing the line as it never got too long. As for drinks and food, no complaints here. It's consistent with the Blue Bottle level of quality I have come to expect and appreciate. Overall, I highly recommend checking out this location.

They have a variety of seating types for those sticking around. Overall, a positive experience!
