Love this hidden coffee spot in West Loop. The owners are very friendly and the service is always stellar. Prices are comparable to other spots in the neighborhood. I love the Jasmine oat matcha!

Coffee/drinks were good, food was not. Cute concept but they kinda missed on the execution. How are you gonna serve a banh mi with frozen (literally) veggies. One of the servers laughed at my friend's name so the vibes were just off at this place.

Street parking available on W Madison. Looove the ambiance with Vietnamese decor. The mega phins were a sight to behold. Coconut coffee was 4/5. Wish there was a slushie option.

Vietfive is a very chill place to work and enjoy a nice cup of their Vietnamese coffee or whatever other tea drinks you'd like to enjoy! I particularly enjoyed the Matcha Mango Refresher, and am excited to try more of their tea options! Their banh mi (I got the pork one, but they also offer chicken and veggie) was delicious and fresh. The baguette was crisp with a soft pillowy center that cushioned the crunchy veggies and tender meat perfectly. The presentation is also nice on a wood board, adding a rustic feel to an already vibey spot. I stopped in Vietfive for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning to knit and relax. At around 9:30am, it wasn't too busy at all. Around 11am, there was a rush and no more tables available for people to sit. With a couch and a few coffee tables, there is a decent amount of seating, but it goes quickly. Overall, Vietfive was a great place to stop for a morning work. I was able to get a lot of knitting done and finished an audiobook, but I also saw a couple of people working on laptops! It was chill, bright, and the staff was very helpful! Highly recommend!

Ca phe trung and vietfive latte

Was super excited to try this place considering it's one of the few viet cafes. Both my partner and I were very disappointed. I wanted to like this place but I couldn't. Although their ca phê trung was good, everything else was not. We ordered an iced VietFive latte without flavoring and it just tasted like watered down coffee, didn't even taste strong enough to consider it coffee. The combo bánh mì was good but I was not a fan of the xa xiu chicken bánh mì . Too much pepper and something in it was wayyy too salty. We waited almost 40 minutes for our banh mi because the workers didn't hear that the order came in. They were too busy changing the songs playing to pay attention. They gave us mochi donuts as an apology.

Ordered Vietfive Coffee for my work team through Uber Eats to our office in the Loop, and everyone really enjoyed their drinks and pastries! We tried a variety including Ube Horchata Lattes, matcha lattes, and teas--all were fun and flavorful. I got the Ube Horchata Latte, which I enjoyed, though I could have ordered the smaller size since it was extremely sweet and very much a dessert drink. We also got the mango peach puffs, which were delicious. It's a great spot for unique, indulgent coffee drinks that feel like a treat. Would definitely order again!

Jerk chicken empanada Coconut cream cold foam matcha latte

I came here for the first time today and was blown away. I ordered a matcha with coconut cream cold foam, and it might just be my new favorite. The matcha wasn't sweetened (which I love) and the coconut cream added just the right touch of sweetness. It was perfectly balanced, super smooth, and honestly... so yummy in my tummy. I'm already plotting my return. I also tried the jerk chicken empanada, which was surprisingly flavorful and filling. I didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly shocked by how good it was. I'm seriously considering grabbing another one tomorrow. The vibe of the place is eclectic in the best way: cool, artsy, and cozy. It's the kind of spot you could sit in for hours whether to chill, work, or people-watch. Bonus: the girl at the front was so friendly and helpful, especially since it was my first time. Highly recommend.

Great, unique coffee shop! More than just coffee, also has boba drinks, ube lattes, horchata, matcha, etc. Loved my empanada, fully filled and perfectly crispy. Loved the bright colors of the space and how light the space is! Staff were all very friendly and kind.

I absolutely loved this place! I popped in to do some work and grab a bite while waiting on a friend. It's cozy but still enough room for several different groups of people to sit. When I got there there was a line but while the staff member was helping a customer, the digital kiosk was still open to order. I like that nobody was rushed through getting help from staff, but it didn't feel inconvenient bc you could easily make a quick order at the same time. I got a coffee and a rice bowl. I love the vegetarian choices available. My drink came out quickly and my food took a little bit longer but the staff member, Minesha I think, let me know they were making fresh rice. She was incredibly warm and helpful. Hey energy just made everything so much more pleasant plus she knew so much about the food and drink and helped folks make decisions without being pushy. I feel like everything was good quality and a good value. I'll be back whenever I'm in the neighborhood!

I was in the mood for Vietnamese coffee, so I headed to VietFive for lunch. This is definitely a local hangout with people conversing on the couch or had their laptops out on the bistro patio type tables. The coffee is great! It's shaken which helps distribute the condensed milk (I asked for a little extra and they obliged with a smile). The food: The banh mi was good, the bread is the star. The empanada was okay/good, unfortunately the chicken was a little dry. So overall a solid place if you're in the hood. I would definitely be back for my Vietnamese coffee fix.

First time trying ube latte and I was pleasantly surprised. This is a great place to try specialty drinks as they pair strong Vietnamese coffee with multitude of flavors. The staff was friendly and helpful and a great modern space to catch up with friends and just relax.

Ambiance - casual, hip, small business family owned coffee shop, love their decors Service - our baristas were super nice, recommended my group drinks Food - ube latte was spot on, wish their egg coffee had a slightly thicker/creamier consistency

My wife and I stopped by Vietfive Coffee for a coffee run on our recent trip to Chicago. Vietfive Coffee is very aesthetic inside and is the perfect spot for those that want to snap photos for Instagram. We shared one of their large egg coffee beverages. I've had egg coffee a handful of times -- in Vietnam and also in the San Francisco Bay Area, and generally, I'm prepared for how sweet the drink will be. The egg coffee here is definitely on the sweeter side. I appreciate how strong the coffee is, but finishing a large size egg coffee is quite an endeavor and you'll certainly be on a sugar high for the rest of your day. In addition to drinks, Vietfive also offers a wide selection of savory pastries in their pastry case. I was eyeing their banh mi empanada, but made the mistake of grabbing breakfast nearby earlier in the morning. Definitely need to stop by again to try out the food.

Super friendly lady at the cashier (all smiles, patient, and offered menu help)! Also fast service (got my order within a few minutes). I visited on a Saturday late afternoon and it was very chill here (also shoutout to the early 2000's era music playing :p it was a vibe). Fortunately Portillo's offers both and it was recommended by locals and previous travelers to make this my one restaurant to try both. I arrived on foot on a Saturday before 10pm and there was a long line to order on the kiosks and a security guard by the door. The restaurant has two floors of seating with dated decor all around, assumingly part of the intended vibe of the establishment. The first floor seating was all taken but there were plenty of tables available on the second floor. I was able to try Portillo's hot dog and Italian beef sandwich. The hot dog included mustard, relish, celery salt, freshly chopped onions, sliced tomatoes, pickle, and peppers on a poppy seed bun. The paper wrapper was strategically wrapped around the Chicago dog inside out, knowing that the logo would be clearly visible when people take pictures of the unwrapped hot dog. I ordered a regular hot dog but probably should've ordered a jumbo hot dog for a dollar more since then regular was tiny; for comparison it was definitely smaller than a Costco hot dog. Although the toppings complemented the hot dog well, the bun was soggy from being wrapped in the paper for only a few minutes. The standard big Italian beef sandwich (slightly wet) was much larger for more than double the price of the hot dog, with no Portillo's branding on that wrapper. I was a little too excited to order this that I forgot to add sweet and hot peppers, but the sandwich still tasted very good. After ordering I realized I probably should've ordered the gravy on the side so I can dip the sandwich more, but again it was still very good. For dessert I tried the lemon cake slice and strawberry shortcake. The lemon cake was a little dry and really sweet and the strawberry shortcake had a little too much mascarpone cheese whipped topping for my liking, but of course I didn't have to finish it all. Portillo's is a good option for casual fast food and for travelers to try. I definitely prefer the Italian beef sandwich over the Chicago dog, but that is my personal preference. For a sweet treat, the strawberry shortcake is a nice option if no other dessert places are nearby. To save time during peak hours, it may be a good idea to order ahead on the mobile app.

I tried to search 'best hot dogs in downtown Chicago' and the search brought up a lot of places…read morewhich would have been an expensive ride, several miles out of the city ... placed which had closed down ... or unrelated restaurants. Despite its 'tourist trap' reputation ... I figured, if they sell a lot of them, they must be good, right? Spoiler alert ... they sucked. Let's talk about the whole ordering system ... Chaotic, confusing, terrible instructions. This is all compounded by them hiring a cranky senior citizen who stands next to the kiosks and rudely scolds you when you aren't following the impossible to understand procedure. The restaurant is a pasta restaurant connected to a hot dog restaurant and looks a lot like the food court of a rest area off the highway, combined with a casino, including creepy mannequins on catwalks and lots of red and purple spotlights and neon. I opted for a regular Chicago dog (jumbo) ... and some sort of special spiced/smoked Chicago dog. It took nearly 20 minutes from order time to the time my bag arrived at the counter. The bottom level doesn't have nearly enough seating for everyone ... and of course no signs direct you to the upper levels, where tons of empty tables are. Filthy, empty tables. Just looking at the dirty tables was enough to give someone food poisoning. Both hot dogs were cold. It was clear they were probably sitting out being thrown into bags, assembly line style, because they didn't taste fresh (or hot). The bun wasn't toasted or buttered ... Just a cold white poppy seed bun for the 'special' dog and a plain white cold bun for the other. Beyond being lukewarm, the hot dogs were pretty bland and tasteless. I could barely taste the relish or mustard. All I could taste was the dill pickle spear resting on top or the odd little spicy peppers with their stem caps. I recommend ordering some dipping sauce, or cheese. I was very disappointed ... which was slightly offset by only wasting $5.50 per hot dog, which was about $5.00 too much but at least not approaching 'bad airport food pricing'. After trying these, I am all set with having another Chicago hot dog. Maybe it would have lived up to the reputation at a fresher place. This is clearly a mass-produced, assembly line kind of tourist trap. There were hundreds of people there at 2 p.m. For reference, my top hot dog spots ... Pink's in Los Angeles ... Ben's Chili Bowl in DC ... Olneyville System in Providence ... Coney Island in Worcester (probably more for nostalgia) ... so it's not like this is my first fancy hot dog experience. One last thing ... the milkshake was no different than McDonalds.

Two of us shared a half pound pastrami on rye with a side of hash browns. The rye was pretty decent but the pastrami was sliced far too thick and the meat was lean. That is not a good thing when it comes to pastrami and I attribute the lean meat to the deli catering to its hipster-ish audience. Although the flavor was decent, the sandwich was dry and difficult to eat. We disagreed on the generously sized pickle. One of us thought the flavor was just right, the other not so much. We both agreed on the hash browns. It's a no-go. They were well fried but entirely unseasoned. I understand the lack of schmaltz but there was no onion or salt or anything else. Waffle House has nothing to worry about. (IYKYK) Service was fast and polite. The space is tiny, but it works. Prices are okay for this area but if you want traditional deli in Chicago, go to Manny's.
