We got everything delivered through Uber Eats with no ice, and unfortunately they forgot the straws... The Cà Phê Muối + Caramel (3/10) was NOT for me. It tasted almost like an espresso martini without the alcohol. The coffee flavor was super strong and bitter, but I did really like the salted foam. Still couldn't finish it. The Ube Latte + Phin Brew (4/10) tasted pretty watered down with barely any coffee flavor. The ube was also very light, so I didn't end up finishing this one either. The Milk Tea with Boba (8/10) was actually my favorite. It tasted more like jasmine or green tea, which I loved because of the floral notes. Just note that the "boba" was crystal jelly rather than traditional tapioca pearls. The OG Banh Mi (4/10) had great toppings, but the bread was pretty dry and didn't seem toasted. I also wished they had some kind of creamy sauce to bring everything together. Overall, pretty disappointing for all the good things I've heard about this spot. read more

Coffees were good. Ambience was great. We love the accessible signage and sound/ear protection. Sign language signs around. Vietnamese children's books. Love all that. Coconut coffee was very yummy. Not too coconut for those worried about too strong of a flavor. I enjoyed it more than the Viet iced coffee and I don't "love" coconut. Just gave it a good twist Banh mi wasn't great if you're looking for traditional. Their bread was almost like a ciabatta bread? It was untoasted as well (not sure if you had to ask for it toasted). read more

Ordered the salted coffee (one of my favorite types of Vietnamese coffee) and it was too bitter. I know it sounds weird, but Vietnamese coffee is not supposed to be bitter. It is supposed to be smooth and sweet and creamy. The service was nice, a bit on the slower side but they were fairly busy. Inside is crowded. Hard to find seating. read more

Yay, a coffee shop that closes after 3 pm haha. I found this place after picking up some bagels nearby. The staff were all passionate about the drinks and were telling the customers the background of the ingredients and where they come from. The ube comes from the Philippines and is processed from Indonesia. You can definitely taste the ube flavor and it's not too sweet. There's also a few food options here with empanadas and bahn mi. read more

Vietfive is a very chill place to work and enjoy a nice cup of their Vietnamese coffee or whatever other tea drinks you'd like to enjoy! I particularly enjoyed the Matcha Mango Refresher, and am excited to try more of their tea options! Their banh mi (I got the pork one, but they also offer chicken and veggie) was delicious and fresh. The baguette was crisp with a soft pillowy center that cushioned the crunchy veggies and tender meat perfectly. The presentation is also nice on a wood board, adding a rustic feel to an already vibey spot. I stopped in Vietfive for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning to knit and relax. At around 9:30am, it wasn't too busy at all. Around 11am, there was a rush and no more tables available for people to sit. With a couch and a few coffee tables, there is a decent amount of seating, but it goes quickly. Overall, Vietfive was a great place to stop for a morning work. I was able to get a lot of knitting done and finished an audiobook, but I also saw a couple of people working on laptops! It was chill, bright, and the staff was very helpful! Was super excited to try this place considering it's one of the few viet cafes. Both my partner and I were very disappointed. I wanted to like this place but I couldn't. Although their ca phê trung was good, everything else was not. We ordered an iced VietFive latte without flavoring and it just tasted like watered down coffee, didn't even taste strong enough to consider it coffee. The combo bánh mì was good but I was not a fan of the xa xiu chicken bánh mì . Too much pepper and something in it was wayyy too salty. We waited almost 40 minutes for our banh mi because the workers didn't hear that the order came in. They were too busy changing the songs playing to pay attention. got the ca phe trung (egg coffee) and thought it was okay. i think that the coffee wasn't as strong as the vietnamese coffee i'm used too are. the coffee was good, sweet from the condensed milk and still had a nice flavor. the egg cream on top was kinda ehh as well. the flavor wasn't really strong or egg-y. i typically like my egg creamtop to be stronger and pack a punch. overall, the store is super cute and love all the decor. lots of references to vietnam which i love and would be a nice place to study at!! i do think that their coffees are not as strong or intense as a typical vietnamese coffees are (still stronger than most lattes lol), but was still okay yummy rating: 7/10 read more

I came here for the first time today and was blown away. I ordered a matcha with coconut cream cold foam, and it might just be my new favorite. The matcha wasn't sweetened (which I love) and the coconut cream added just the right touch of sweetness. It was perfectly balanced, super smooth, and honestly... so yummy in my tummy. I'm already plotting my return. I also tried the jerk chicken empanada, which was surprisingly flavorful and filling. I didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly shocked by how good it was. I absolutely loved this place! I popped in to do some work and grab a bite while waiting on a friend. It's cozy but still enough room for several different groups of people to sit. When I got there there was a line but while the staff member was helping a customer, the digital kiosk was still open to order. I like that nobody was rushed through getting help from staff, but it didn't feel inconvenient bc you could easily make a quick order at the same time. I got a coffee and a rice bowl. I love the vegetarian choices available. My drink came out quickly and my food took a little bit longer but the staff member, Minesha I think, let me know they were making fresh rice. She was incredibly warm and helpful. Hey energy just made everything so much more pleasant plus she knew so much about the food and drink and helped folks make decisions without being pushy. My wife and I stopped by Vietfive Coffee for a coffee run on our recent trip to Chicago. Vietfive Coffee is very aesthetic inside and is the perfect spot for those that want to snap photos for Instagram. We shared one of their large egg coffee beverages. I've had egg coffee a handful of times -- in Vietnam and also in the San Francisco Bay Area, and generally, I'm prepared for how sweet the drink will be. The egg coffee here is definitely on the sweeter side. I appreciate how strong the coffee is, but finishing a large size egg coffee is quite an endeavor and you'll certainly be on a sugar high for the rest of your day. In addition to drinks, Vietfive also offers a wide selection of savory pastries in their pastry case. Upon learning the family connection to Vietnam, I had to purchase some of the coffee beans. The beans are sourced from the owner's family in Vietnam but roasted here in Chicago. I am so impressed with the coffee beans (red package) that I purchased. The price was reasonable at only $15 for 12 oz. Check them out, they have some delicious sandwiches and empanadas. Returned for the second time a year later. This time I tried the caphe which is the standard viet coffee with condense milk- it tasted more like very rich black coffee with condensed milk than viet coffee. The egg coffee was nice and different since it's whipped and create a layer of foam at the top. We also tried the pate with beef- the seasoning is tasty and taste like the dumpling season, the outside flaky pastry layer wasn't crispy enough but since they put it in the warmer, it probably got a bit soggy. The banh mi original was decent but not as good as lotus. The sauce is just sweet and salty- not really the typical banh mi flavor but maybe thats their twist? overall we enjoyed our visit to this cafe- the owner is friendly and took the time to explain the menu snd the origin of the food and flavor. read more

Actually I walked past Vietfive a few times and from the front, to me did not look like a coffee shop. Once I was in I knew I had to try the coffee. I ordered the #1 which is the traditional drip coffee like with condensed cream (hot). The coffee was perfect pick me up and enjoyed the bar stool vibe. I was not able to try the edibles (food, pastries) but I will next time. Street parking available and plenty of smiles inside. read more

Husband and I were in Chicago for a weekend trip and stopped at Vietfive while walking around our neighborhood! Really liked the vibe of the shop - one of the owners was behind the counter and super nicely answered all of our questions about everything. We ended up getting an Ube latte, their seasonal pineapple coffee, an Asian pork empanada and a mochi donut. The coffees were great - the ube wasn't overpoweringly sweet. The pineapple coffee was awesome and so unique - really brought out the fruitiness. The empanada for breakfast was also really fun - very meat-filled and the hoisin sauce on the side was nice. The mochi donut was OK - could have been a little more fresh. Overall, really nice spot with friendly people and a fun menu! If you're looking for Instagram pictures, this is the place as well. They have a moped in main area and everything is brightly colored. Got the classics. Ube latte, classic banh mi sandwich, and bbq pork empanada. Service was great. The empanadas are usually sitting the warmer but there happened to be a fresh batch of the bbq pork coming out so I managed to snag a piping hot one to munch while I waited for my other items. The inside had cubed bbq pork, some sliced caramelized carrots and cilantro. I really enjoyed the bits of cilantro which added depth to the flavor. The edges were crispy. The iced ube latte came next. I sipped it before stirring and the robusta coffee was strong and a bit bitter but once the ube was mixed in, it was well balanced and nutty. The banh mi took a little longer to assemble but came out fresh and toasted, cut in half with each half individually wrapped with foil. The space has lots of seating options from bar to table to sofa. Has a corner for their merch and coffee beans. And near the cashier there's also a small snack stand for Asian goodies. read more

Iced beverages here are way better than the hot ones, just keep that in mind when ordering. The donut pastry was delicious and so was empanada. Perhaps I ordered the wrong drink, but I didn't like this shop. I really want to like it - a Vietnamese coffee spot that has a variety of unique drinks - but I'm not a fan of paying $7 for essentially an unflavored cold brew. What I ordered was the iced Ube Latte, and it was recommended that I add coffee to the drink (free of charge). Big mistake, because after the first few sips, the flavor completely disappeared and all I tasted was iced coffee. $7 pastries with meat seemed like a bit of a ripoff to me as well.
