I love that everyone from all walks of life seems to enjoy Cafe One- on an average day you'll see CCNY students and teachers, workers on their lunch breaks, and neighbors of all ages. The service here is great and all the staff are knowledgeable and consistently really friendly. The coffee is strong and good, and the well stocked pastry case always hits the spot. Their prices are unheard of for New York (in the best way). They get pretty busy in the mornings given their proximity to CCNY and the train, and for good reason, but always handle the rush pretty smoothly. Had a pretty good lunch here recently. I ordered on seamless and picked it up and it looks like the prices are higher to order through that than in store. They were really busy and it took 30! mins for my food to be ready which I was pretty annoyed by. The inside is small and they have some outdoor seating. I ordered the Italian wrap and it was good. I've had it from here before and this time wasn't as good, honestly. I also tried the spicy beef sandwich with sauce on the side. It was good but entirely fell apart so it was hard to eat. If there is anything they don't have in stock they always call to let me know and ask if I would like to switch for another item. Great prices, everything is always packaged well and food tastes great. My absolute favorites are blue velvet cake, pistachio macaroon and almond croissant. Everything was so good but the chai is incredible! I'm very picky when it comes to my chai but this is one of the best I've ever had. There is one place in the town I live that keeps the #1 spot of all time but this is a VERY close second. I've tried dozens of chais so that is a pretty big statement from me. A friend and I spent a couple of days in NYC and booked an AirBnb in this area. Upon our arrival, we were looking for a place to grab a quick breakfast and happened upon Cafe One. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up returning throughout our trip. The line to order on a Sunday morning was short and our food was prepared pretty quickly. I ordered an egg and cheese biscuit and severely underestimated how good it would be. It seemed tiny at first, but it was actually pretty filling. The biscuit was soft and buttery -- just how I like it! I also tried the banana bread and it was SO YUMMY! Moist and not too sweet! There is indoor dining and an enclosed outdoor seating area. I've been coming to this charming cafe for years. It has excellent food and coffee drinks. The service is always great and the owners, Susan & Sam, are very friendly, hospitable people. All their ice coffees come with a shot of espresso which mellows out the flavor and makes it taste amazing (I drink their ice coffee year-round). They also have the best bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches in town! They have many bread options, tons of pastries & sweets, really good panini sandwiches, and so much more. They also offer vegetarian options. The prices are very fair as well. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are in the area. Lastly, I will say that it gets busy in waves here--it can be empty one minute and then a line out the door the next--but the line always moves fast! read more

Cafe One is a great place for breakfast and lunch. We've seen many students lined up there from City College and they know where the good food is at near their school so we went too. The line can be long but it's a great cafe. We love how they support the students by placing their artwork on the walls. As for the food, we enjoyed their everything bagel with cream cheese for breakfast. It was delicious, the bagel tasted fresh and the cream cheese was creamy. They put a lot of everything seasoning which is good because some places skimp on everything seasoning. Glad they make it worth it. We also ordered their Black Bean Burger for lunch. One of the better cafes in Harlem! It has definitely saved me a few times after lectures if you're hungry or craving something sweet this was my go-to for a while. Sandwiches are made fresh to order and so are the various coffees. They also offer a variety of pre made refrigerated items like sushi, boiled eggs etc. The donuts are all great different flavors, the pastries are all fresh I recommend the custard tarts with fresh fruit on top! As the closest cafe to CCNY, Cafe One is busy just about all day. The coffee is okay, and their prices aren't crazy. The wifi usually works and is fast, and there's never any pressure from staff to leave. There are outlets on both wall. That said, this is not the place to work if you need quiet--it can get quite loud during lunch, and has a steady hum of conversation all day. Egg and cheese on a croissant is an cheap, artery-clogging sandwich of bliss, and the Hale and Hearty soups hit the spot on cold days (though they're a bit pricey). Unlike delis, Cafe One has soymilk on hand, and you can get your coffee in a mug. The staff is consistently friendly and really sweet, even when the line is long. Over the summer the muffins were half-off or BOGO in the evening--not sure if that's still a thing, but it was awesome. read more

I come here only for the pistachio macarons, so my opinion is limited. I tried them on a whim (I didn't jump on the macaron wave when it rose some years back) and have found my newest sweet tooth fixer. I love the crushed pistachio and the texture. It's just enough filling and one macaron does the job. There's a yummy lookin' array of pastries and desserts here, I suggest giving it a try. I truly appreciate this cafe. I used to go to another one down the street (double dutch) but recently I have been having bad experiences there so I decided to try out Cafe One. I was NOT disappointed. I ordered a Chai Latte (they have many different flavors; I chose spice for traditional flavor). They steep it from a tea bag and froth the milk, like a real chai! It wasn't from a box of chai concentrate (yuck). I also ordered the new England clam chowder, it was okay but didn't taste like real clam chowder. I saw that they have really good lunch deals for a sandwich and a bag of chips it's about $7. I had no idea. The only thing I would want them to change is to add outlets for customers. I came with my laptop only at 36% and phone at 10%, and I was sad to see they didn't have an outlet for me to charge while I studied. read more

I've been coming here for about 6 months now and after todays coffee I just had to write a review. I usually order online but I've been coming in more often to try and save some coins. I've tried their breakfast pastries, lunch sandwiches, quiche, and their egg sandwiches. I always get the same thing now: egg wrap with Turkey and avocado. I've tried to get this simple combo at other places and it's never as satisfying as Cafe One's! Now on to the glorious glorious coffee! I work for a coffee company who roasts their own coffee and while it's pretty delicious, Lá Colombe is honestly a close second to some of my favorite coffee in existence. It's gotten to the point where I purchase the beans from Cafe One and they happily grind them for my French Press (even tho I can get free coffee from work!) I'm a non dairy person so I usually either get a black coffee (5/5) full bodied and smooth, no acidity whatsoever, a Soy Hazelnut Latte or Oat Caramel Latte. Both are 5/5 but the Oat Caramel was a little too sweet for me. Oat Milk has a lot of sugar on its own so I would ask for less pumps of the caramel next time. Now I'm writing this review because I'm trying to avoid both Oat and Soy milk as much as possible, but every time I order an almond latte somewhere it's gross. I decided to take my chances here since I know the espresso here is good and I was not disappointed. This is the first almond latte I've had that was not only good, but quite delicious. Of course it still had that weird taste that almond milk has to me (idk what it is!), but it was very subtle and the espresso mellowed everything out. I will say beware of the Iced Lattes if you're sensitive to caffeine. I got one the other day and was bouncing off the walls. It is VERY strong and I drink espresso every day! Anyway if you're in the area, check them out. They have a decent size menu, ample seating (outdoor too) and a friendly and competent staff. They also have other treats and lots of cool drinks like Recess which is a Hemp and Adaptogen drink and is super calming. Please bring CASH to tip your baristas and cashiers because they don't have a CC tipping option available :( read more
