Brother's Bakery Cafe was a sure five stars even though getting my food was a little slow. It was understandable as busy as this place is. They were having deliveries, people eating there and lots of take out. A nice employee greeted me and we chatted when I entered. I took a bunch of photos of all the delicious looking food and the adorable Halloween Decor. I checked out the menu and decided on a ABLT. It's Avocado, Bacon, lettuce and tomato. I'm allergic to tomato so I left it off and asked for the Seven Grain Bread and Mustard. I told the counter employee my name thinking they would call me to pick up when the sandwich is ready. I also said I was sitting inside and she asked for proof of vaccination. I went over and sat down. Tables were being cleaned while I sat there, mine included. To my surprise here comes another employee to my table with my sandwich on a tray. I never get that kind of service. They did this with everyone. As you can see my sandwich looks delicious and the bacon was so plentiful it kept falling out of the sandwich as I was eating. Would I return to Brother's? You bet. There's a Coconut Cupcake with my name on it as well as lots of other delicious baked goods! I'd like to try their pancakes for breakfast one morning too. read more

It is what it is. The prices are normal. The service is acceptable. I kind of expected more from a place that has an old -timey look on the outside. If you order a coffee and pastry from them, you will leave feeling like you ordered a coffee and a pastry. It does it's job, but I wouldn't make it a destination in and of itself. read more

Pretty decent spot. I ordered a breakfast combo, which came with french toast, mini pancakes, eggs, home fries, and a meat, for about $13. For the price, there was a decent amount of food. However, I found the french toast to be really soggy (perhaps, due to the delivery). Also, the pancakes were a bit undercooked. Don't order via delivery!!!! They're very careless and clearly don't look at the order when they're making the food. I thought the first couple of times were a fluke, but they've gotten worse over time. Now, every time I order, my order is wrong - to the point of not being able to eat it due to a dietary restriction. I.e. cheese being put on a sandwich despite not ordering cheese or meat being put on something despite ordering an item that wasn't listed as having meat. When I called to get support and maybe see if they would just send a replacement, I was told it wasn't their responsibility and I should just talk to seamless. This is a great place to have in El Barrio. Located two avenue blocks away from my job, it's a great spot to grab a chai and salad whenever I need an escape from teacher work room sugary snacks. The chai is a pre-made concoction that contains too much sugar & not enough chai but it's definitely the best (if not only) chai in the neighborhood. The salad I had here (Cobb) was pretty phenomenal. It had actual bacon (rather than sad bacon bits), real slices of avocado (so real that the guy making it camouflaged a piece of the avocado skin in my salad blending perfectly well with the lettuce hence -1 star), mostly fresh lettuce, hard boiled egg, grilled chicken (tasty & seasoned), and a generous amount of blue cheese. Served up with a light vinaigrette. Overall I was super pleased with this salad considering I've paid the same elsewhere for a far worse salad. Their croissants (& other breakfast pastries) tend to be on the greasy side. Sometimes I grab one of their croissants at Uptown Roasters, a freshly roasted coffee cafe I frequent in the mornings. A decent croissant but nothing to drool over. This cafe deserves a solid 3/4 stars for being the only one like it in this hood and although their prices are a bit high for this neighborhood they do offer MUCH better quality than the standard corner bodega you're likely to see around here. read more

The food is reasonably priced and they have a wide selection of food ranging from breakfast platters to paninis. I HIGHLY recommend the breakfast burrito and what you are getting is worth the price point. For instance, buying two drinks and two entrees runs me up to $30. I'm not entirely sure how this place stays in business. When you run a business that says 'Bakery' on it, you would think they know the difference between serving stalel rolls and bagels that came out of plastic bags or have something a little more fresh like the guys with the coffee wagons all over the city have. Second, when you go in and ask for a Cafe Con leche in El Barrio, that doesn't mean regular American coffee (not even Bustelo) with steamed milk. That's espresso with steamed milk- I suppose you have to ask for that specifically if you want it. This is a gentrifier friendly Express cake place with gentrifier friendly little lunch specials. I'd imagine they make some or most of the cake they sell, the fact that I don't smell anything baking in there kind of scares me off of their baked products. I had a similar experience about a year and a half, maybe 2 years ago, gave it another shot this morning and got an awful, stale supermarket bagel with so little butter on it, I threw it it out the car window. In Old New York (and in most places around the world), most people knew the difference of what a piece of fresh morning bread with butter should taste like and feel like. Selling what they sold me for full price this morning is nothing short of a disgrace and they should be ashamed, but I don't think they are. The coffee just kind of sucked in a neighborhood where delicious coffee can be found almost anyplace. Like next door, for instance.
