Sesame bagel with cream cheese and bacon
    Ashley M.

Inside it's actually a nice set up with nice decor. (I didn't think it was going to look that nice inside) the food quality was not so good, it was eatable, but ehhh. The bacon tasted low cheap quality, they hardly put any cream cheese in my bagel. The breakfast platter was bland, not so much flavor. Nice staff and all, but I will go somewhere else for breakfast next time. If you want a quick dessert/bakery item they look good.

Brother's Bakery Cafe was a sure five stars even though getting my food was a little slow. It was understandable as busy as this place is. They were having deliveries, people eating there and lots of take out. A nice employee greeted me and we chatted when I entered. I took a bunch of photos of all the delicious looking food and the adorable Halloween Decor. I checked out the menu and decided on a ABLT. It's Avocado, Bacon, lettuce and tomato. I'm allergic to tomato so I left it off and asked for the Seven Grain Bread and Mustard. I told the counter employee my name thinking they would call me to pick up when the sandwich is ready. I also said I was sitting inside and she asked for proof of vaccination. I went over and sat down. Tables were being cleaned while I sat there, mine included. To my surprise here comes another employee to my table with my sandwich on a tray. I never get that kind of service. They did this with everyone. As you can see my sandwich looks delicious and the bacon was so plentiful it kept falling out of the sandwich as I was eating. Would I return to Brother's? You bet. There's a Coconut Cupcake with my name on it as well as lots of other delicious baked goods! I'd like to try their pancakes for breakfast one morning too.

    Bagel "with cream cheese"

When I ordered a bagel with CC, there was hardly any cream cheese on it ($2.00) When I ordered a bagel with "extra cream cheese" which costs an extra $.50, they make me wait 10 minutes for a bagel with hardly any cream cheese on it. I will no longer be a customer.

    I love Brother's Bakery!!

Staff are sure to become a part of your daily morning especially if you work with neighboring businesses and school, I even see some of my students/families here for some bonding time before drop-off. Brother's Bakery staff remember your names and orders and this adds to the family dynamic we strive to create in the community. Personally I call (or order online) them as soon as I hit 125th or 110th street (on the 6 train) and they try to make sure its ready by the time I get to them so I'm out the door and at work. (By far the best customer service) They're food is cooked to order and fresh, their baked good are SOOOO delicious and addictive. Be careful, bc this place isn't a one-time stop.

    Cobb salad... About 10 bucks

This is a great place to have in El Barrio. Located two avenue blocks away from my job, it's a great spot to grab a chai and salad whenever I need an escape from teacher work room sugary snacks. The chai is a pre-made concoction that contains too much sugar & not enough chai but it's definitely the best (if not only) chai in the neighborhood. The salad I had here (Cobb) was pretty phenomenal. It had actual bacon (rather than sad bacon bits), real slices of avocado (so real that the guy making it camouflaged a piece of the avocado skin in my salad blending perfectly well with the lettuce hence -1 star), mostly fresh lettuce, hard boiled egg, grilled chicken (tasty & seasoned), and a generous amount of blue cheese. Served up with a light vinaigrette. Overall I was super pleased with this salad considering I've paid the same elsewhere for a far worse salad. Their croissants (& other breakfast pastries) tend to be on the greasy side. Sometimes I grab one of their croissants at Uptown Roasters, a freshly roasted coffee cafe I frequent in the mornings. A decent croissant but nothing to drool over. This cafe deserves a solid 3/4 stars for being the only one like it in this hood and although their prices are a bit high for this neighborhood they do offer MUCH better quality than the standard corner bodega you're likely to see around here.

Spinach and Feta Omelette (in a wrap) and Breakfast Burrito Wrap. Yummy!

Yes, a kale salad and a guava waffle. Stay with me. The salad is fresh, savory, and hearty, especially with the grilled chicken. Then comes the waffle--warm, slightly sweet, and topped with guava rum butter that melts into every little pocket. Oh my goodness. Taking a bite of the savory chicken and kale, followed by that soft guava waffle, gives me the perfect sweet-and-savory meal. It should not work as beautifully as it does, but it absolutely does. And the brown sugar latte? Always. It's smooth, comforting, and sweet without tasting like someone poured syrup into a cup and called it coffee. The space has the easy, unhurried feeling of a neighborhood coffee shop, but the menu is giving a real brunch experience. It's cozy and beautifully lit during the day--the kind of place where you can settle in and enjoy yourself without feeling rushed. The service matches that energy. Everyone is attentive, kind, and genuinely knows the menu. They always greet you with a smile and give you exactly the right amount of small talk: enough to make you feel welcomed, never so much that it interrupts your peace. The atmosphere, the people, and that guava rum butter keeps me coming back.

Make your own if you're not feeling theirs. It's worth it. Also writing this review because they are just quality people. I ordered a vegan pizza with some toppings but wanted pepperoni and that wasn't an option. I made a note asking if a substitution was possible, knowing it likely wasn't because of a price difference. I'm not vegan, but I needed a dairy-free alternative since I am breastfeeding a baby with a cow milk protein intolerance. The LOADED up my pizza. Truly stand-up humans. I ended up starving and looking for a place in the neighborhood for a breakfast sandwich. Rimar looked good from the outside, there were a bunch of banners announcing them as a "brand new" business having a "grand opening". Once inside, I realized that was probably not true. Looking around, I didn't see any coffee nor was there any kind of posted menu indicating the possibility of breakfast sandwiches. The man behind the counter was friendly enough though, and took my order for 2 bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on a roll. He also indicated that he DID have coffee. Great! While I was waiting in the store for 15 minutes for my order. I noticed a woman (maybe another owner) casing the place down and staring at everyone who entered. I noticed that the rest of the store sold only a bleak selection of junk food. There was nothing interesting on the shelves! I noticed a man and woman come in, have an entirely transactional conversation and then leave, buying nothing. I noticed two separate hipsters walk in, look around and then walk out. I waited and waited. Finally, my order was ready. Without any register or paper calculations, the man told me my order was $10 exactly. Not feeling too good about that. The coffee was super hot and actually ok, I think he brewed a fresh pot on my request (thank you for that). The breakfast sandwiches were pretty awful. Greasy eggs, strangely chopped and super greasy bacon, you get the picture. I think Rimar could really do much better. They are in a great location without a lot of direct competition, in a neighborhood, that I am certain, would support a nicer deli with expanded options.
