12/1/2024: Hopland CA's Cafe Poppy . . . A well-appointed lovely Bar and Cafe located inside the Thatcher Hotel which is next door to the Stockland Restaurant. Today, I brought my Stanley French Press Coffee Thermos: I requested the high-test, roasted coffee grounds be poured into the bottom of the Stanley French Press, add hot, boiling H2O then, add five drops of peppermint, two packets of organic raw sugar, and two shots of organic half/half cream on top of the coffee. Next, my First-Born Daughter ordered her beverage and some breakfast pastries. After receiving our beverages and pastries, we diagonally sat across from the lovely bar and admiring the staircase and the salon located beyond the staircase. The vibe was chill, tranquil, and subtly well-decorated. BTW: The high-test, roasted coffee grounds made me become a nervous Chihuahua; therefore, I know the coffee roasted was excellent~lol! Cute cafe in Thatcher hotel. Worth a stop even if not there for a stay. Had a yogurt parfait that was to die for! They also have ice cream.

Such a cute little spot. My friends and I stopped by to get coffee before heading to Redwood valley and fell in love with it. Good thing we went on weekday so it was empty. Many spots to take pictures and sit down to chitchat. read more

We walked in and there were no customers at all. At a glance, it looks nice. I was told by the woman in front she'll be right with me as she worked on a laptop with her back facing me. Then another younger woman shouted she would also be right with me. Minutes passed and they proceeded to speak loudly about upcoming schedules and did not make any eye contact. Food 3/5 Order breakfast sandwich and Chai latte. The breakfast sandwich was a 2.5/5. Unfortunately, it was not great. The biscuit was very dry. The eggs were airy and overcooked/dry. The bacon is fine, cheese was melted. Definitely seems like it was made in pieces well in advanced and assembled in the 5 mins it took to bring it out. The Chai latte was sold 3/5. Barista advised me if I wanted more milk or chai to let her know. I will say my friends brought back some pastries the day before from this place and they were very good. So would be back for that. Service 3/5 Nothing spectacular and nothing horrible. Ambiance 3.5/5 Right off the 101 I was able to sit outside and enjoy the fresh rural air. Inside you could sit at the hotel lobby. Super cute cafe connected to a hotel in Hopeland. They offer a limited menu but what's on it is delicious. I tried their prosciutto with fig spread panini and hubby had their grilled cheese. Definitely recommended. They are also dog friendly and our pup also got a homemade treat. You can enjoy your food outside or inside, we chose outside as you can people watch and enjoy the fresh air. It looks like a popular place for bicyclist to stop by also. Super fun to have a conversation with them. So if you're passing by and want a little coffee and snack, stop in here for a treat. read more

I've only had a chance to visit once but I really love Cafe Poppy. It's inside the Thatcher Hotel, just to the right of the bar/ check-in counter. They have DELICIOUS chocolate chip cookies and a great selection of teas and espresso-based drinks. The person at the counter was very kind, helpful, and personable. Take your coffee/ tea/ whatever and bring it to their cozy library to enjoy. They've got a nice selection of magazines to peruse when you're not just soaking in the generally relaxing atmosphere. I definitely want to head back for a breakfast sandwich and one of their tasty looking scones. read more

Great stop for coffee and quick bites on the 101 in Hopland. Friendly service, clean and inviting. Restrooms open to customers which is hard to find these days. I love that they offer gluten free options because their pastries are hard to pass up. read more

Be prepared to spend 29 percent more than whatever you buy here, as they add a 20 percent gratuity on top of the tax for ANY order. I always tip for good service, but asking for gratuity up front is not ok. I ordered a hot chocolate, first time was barely lukewarm. I asked to have it heated up a bit more, took the smallest sip and literally, not figuratively, burned my tongue. It had to been nearly boiling temperature. I politely asked for a refund and left. On the us side, the place looks great, situated below an old 1890s hotel. read more

It's beautiful inside, terribly jealous of the locals that they can get coffee & cocktails in this space.

I had that need for coffee while driving north, and I spied their sign and pulled over. It is a lovely cafe inside of a historic hotel. The people are wonderfully friendly and the coffee is very flavorful - I wish all coffee tasted just like this. There is also a tempting array of pastries for those who are so inclined, but I already had mine for the day so I regretfully passed those up. Will be glad to return on another drive through Hopland. read more

We stopped in to visit our friend Morgan who posted to social media that she had just started working here. We weren't really stopping in for the food as much as we were to see and support her. HOWEVER, we were really impressed with everything we had, from the two sandwiches to the plate of bread and butter to the cookies to the lemon raspberry bar. We sat out front on a sunny afternoon and watched the traffic go by. This is a very cool bakery and definitely worth a visit whenever you are going through Hopland. read more
