I can agree with some of the lower reviews. This place is filthy. Cleaning around the containers of food, that you are serving sets a good standard of a clean appearance. We almost left based on it being so dirty. All the tables in the place were dirty. Ultimately we had to get a napkin with some water to clean a table. It's your typical cafe rio fare. Sad. Flies all over the place. Counters and tables dirty. The ceiling of the restaurant above the food is covered in greasy dust. The portion size of the meat is so bad. I've never been to a "Mexican" style restaurant that was so poorly run. The bowl I ordered looked awful and I'm nervous to eat it. The staff didn't seem to know what they had. "Would you like sauces or salsa?" Yes, I'd like the roasted tomatillo sauce... "I'm asking about enchilada sauce " I was so confused. So the next person asked me I said the same thing and he said sure! They were sliding the bowls of food all over knocking our cups to where the rim touched their unclean counter. The whole place was jut humid and filled with flies and it was so loud and chaotic... also the gust was brown and almost so I didn't order it, and the cilantro they gave us was just sprigs. There wasn't a line when we walked in. The food service area was in disarray and had food caked over. I get that things can get messy in a rush but most of the stuff looked like it had been there for some time. The associate serving us gave us bottom of the pan chicken and didn't get new chicken to replenish. So, we didn't have that much. Staff seemed a bit distracted as well. Dinning room wasn't too bad. I live the chain Cafe Rio but the one in Pocatello leaves much to be desired. The food and service is ok. My biggest combos that it is really dirty. I know it's hard to clean with a short staff. But if this store doesn't get a good deep cleaning and then keep it up I'm afraid it will continue to loose business. The floor is disgusting. This restaurant is filthy. You can't hardly see through the windows. The dust hanging from the ceiling above the food is unacceptable. First, the restaurant is very gross. There were fly's landing on me at the register. The biggest issue was the service. The manager I believe, was incredibly rude to the point I actually started tearing up. I was very polite to the young lady that was initially helping me and things were going okay until this guy stepped in to "help". He told me I "could have made it easier and ordered online" but there was a reason I didn't. I have never in my life been treated so poorly. The meal was for a company lunch and after informing them about the experience, we have collectively decided we will never be using this business to cater our lunches again. I have recently gone through the drive-through twice and each time the young lady asked me for a tip before I had even received my food. In fact it's the first thing out of her mouth. The first time shame on me, the second time shame on them no way. The first time they forgot half of the food and I had already tipped them. The second time the contents of my tacos were not within the tortilla and were spread out all over. The tortillas were wrapped in a tinfoil but it was inside out so the red lines on the foil got all over my tortilla. This place has become a disaster, don't go through the drive-through. read more

The food was prepared beautifully and was good. The customer service was fine. What threw me off was how dirty the food prep stations were. The ingredients were mixed or spilled everywhere. We spent $74 dollars tonight. Over $11 for two tacos, and they put one tong pinch of meat between the two tacos. Literally, one of my tacos had THREE pieces of steak. My daughters quesadilla that we spent $5 on had 3x the meat on it. And when asked to put more, we were met with attitude from Michelle, the General Manager, who literally rolled her eyes and walked away as my mother tried talking to her. Came through the drive throught tonight. Ordered two tostadas and key lime desert (came there with a coupon from a previous survey where I earned a free desert or chips and salsa). Got home and there was no desert and no receipt so I was unable to do the survey via the code on the bottom of any receipt. Tostada salads had about an inch of liquid on the bottom which made the shell and everything else wet and soggy and no guacamole and very stingy on the lettuce. When I paid for the meal I was handed the handheld credit card machine simply for the sole reason of being pressured to add a gratuity which was a first time experience coming through a drive through. I used to like it here, I loved the nachos and thought the pork barbacoa was awesome. Every visit over the years has shown decrease in quality and customer service. I was the only person in line and it took 15 minutes to have a salad made. One poor new employee had no idea what she was doing and her manager treated her like she was stupid. We arrived just passed lunch hour. The parking area is enough. We could find parking easily. The food is above average. The tortillas freshly made. I had the sweet shredded pork burrito and it was delicious. The server was friendly and fast. They gave lots if vegetables. The restaurant itself was clean thru out. This has happened at every Cafe Rio I have ever been to. I use the app and always get a salad and ask for NO flour tortilla and substitute for a corn tortilla. They always put a flour tortilla and never do the other requests (extra guac, extra rice, no cheese). I feel like they're on auto pilot and don't even look at the order instructions when making it. Sorta like a Chipotle if you may...we had dinner there last night. Visiting our youngest daughter we needed dinner on our last night in town. We all follow different eating habits. I'm celiac, hubby can't eat beef, gluten or shellfish, daughter is dirty keto. The kid (we are old) behind the counter was a bit flustered but it was a bit busy. He forgot our side of meat but nobody is perfect. We made due without it. We never even opened our chips. We had way too much food. I ordered a salad. The steak is very tender (way more tender than chipotle which I'll not go to and hit this place!) and the amount of food is crazy! My husband ordered a chicken salad and my daughter a burrito which she ended up sharing. It was huge! I really enjoy their house dressing. They have house made ice tea, unsweetened and hibiscus. The thing is...we'll probably be back. Not because it's so fantastic, but because it's some of the better Mexican food in Pocatello. We have been quasi-regulars for the past 2 years and have watched both the customer service level go down and the food quality shrink. We understand being short-staffed. We're from one of the nearby tourist meccas and you can never have enough employees. However, when your staff is overworked and tired they need to let your customers know they're doing their best. Last night the gentleman at the cash register couldn't be bothered to say, "Hello," let alone make eye contact. Is he worn out from too many shifts? Does he not know that he should be greeting customers? If he had said something along the lines of, "So sorry I had my back to you for so long, these to-go orders are crazy tonight!" we might have understood. ! As it was, when we left, I wondered why we had bothered spending our hard earned money there. Now, the food. Not bad. We appreciate that you're open on Sundays. But, there seems to be less of it and it seems to be less....fresh. Still better than a lot of the Mexican food in Pocatello, but it's slipping. The restaurant looks great from the outside-nice reno, guys!! (I do miss the tables on the inside, though...they lent a touch of whacky character that seems to be missing now. But, I understand change.) So, all in all....we'll probably be back. That craving for Mexican food hits us occasionally and this is where we'll end up. My friend, my son & I stopped by at this location in Pocatello ID at about 11:15 this morning, we entered, approached the counter, there were 2 women arranging the meals, we said "Hello" and no one (!) responded, they wouldn't make an eye contact, wouldn't acknowledge we are standing infront of them. After waiting for about 5-10 min, still no reaction, we tried to talk to a gentleman making tortillas-he at least smiled, and the other ladies were still ignoring us. It was supposed to be my Birthday brunch there! , As we were standing in-front of the counter ready to order,- we said "Hello!" 4 more times and still no reaction, not even looking at us! We left!!!! Total ignorance! Never again! There is so many more other restaurants in town who would be happy to see us as the customers and take our money! Yep. The current two star rating is warranted--if not generous. Ordered a simple burrito and spent far too long describing what should go inside and outside of the wrap. When I got home, the container was a sloppy mess of ingredients. Not possible to eat by hand or really even with a fork and knife. This restaurant used to be good, but it looks like the quality control department needs to pay a visit to the Pocatello location and give everyone a crash course on how to make and present their food. I've eaten here a few times before the past weekend and I've always been a fan of the sweet pork burrito. Although it always seems dirty inside and lacks any customer service at all I decided to eat there again. Biggest mistake of my short 24 years of life. After eating here I got such bad food poisoning I had to go to urgent care and get three liters of water put in me through an IV due to the excessive vomiting and diarrhea. I can actually say I almost died from eating here and that is no exaggeration at all. This is by the far worse worse experience I ever have experienced! There was 10of us mostly locals and the 2 of us visiting from another state. We got there waited for awhile and finally got the table. No problems there- then ordered apps and drinks - the server was very friendly. Until we got our meals .. EXCEPT for one! This poor gal she ended up with no dinner! she works hard! All day!!! She's very hungry and still her dinner has not arrived. So we asked and then the manager came out and said oh well the kitchen is closed. What!?! Wait a min!! Get her the dinner! She ordered it and it's the chef that needs to cook! Make it! And the manager says we're closing so we need to shut down the kitchen! What!?! Who does that!?! Have 10 of us and get the orders and serve the meals!
