Las Penitas is really good. I got the asada and pork tacos and I liked both meats a lot. They had a delicious salsa on top that when I go back, I'll see if they can put more on because it was so delicious. The prices are really good you definitely should eat here. Don't let the less than ideal atmosphere sway you it's worth a read more

I ordered a carne Asada burrito, was the absolute worst burrito, the meat was like sludge . And had the taste of days old meat ,lard soaked . was more like stew meat and had that walk in refrigerator flavor ,,, definitely wasn't today's meat.... We are from Los Angeles, parents wanted some good tacos and heard of this place having a line of people in the morning, anyhow decide to come check it out. We arrive and it's a small spot, seems busy, being almost the only Mexican place to eat that's cheapy. Tacos were ok, flautas de pollo were short and a bit cold,, enchiladas de pollo were good, rice was clumpy, beans were good. Service was nice, they had music flowing, you felt that vibe. It's nice to find an authentic, tasty, reasonably priced Mexican restaurant. The tacos here are some the best I've had. The taste, texture, presentation, and service were all on point. I can't wait to come back here. The red sauce that came with the tacos was a bit too spicy for me, but the green sauce was one of the greatest things I've ever tasted. So my hubby and I have a rule about trying Mexican food outside of California, Arizona, or Mexico. We don't do it. We have been disappointed so many times. But Our travel companion really wanted Mexican food. So I'm scrolling thru Yelp looking for dinner options and I see that Las Peñitas is 4.7 stars. I read all the reviews and we decided to give it a try. We tried a wide range of dishes and everything was amazing! The reviews talked about street tacos. The presentation is street taco but the tortillas are more like regular corn tortillas. So we ordered way too much. But it was all so good we ate as much as we could. We tried chicken, spicy pork carnitas, and asada. We had an enchilada plate, tacos, a quesadilla, and a mulita. I enjoyed the rice and beans on the enchilada plate. Their sauces are good. The mulita and quesadilla were excellent! And the tacos were on point. I am so glad we broke our rules and tried this place. read more

Authentic cuisine. Wait in line to Order at counter, take a seat and they bring out food and drinks. There is also a drive up window for ordering and take out. Inside Service was quick and tables turn over quickly. Saw a number of bowls of Pozole being served. Looked great. Nothing fancy about it...just good food. read more

Undoubtedly, the BEST Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. A small place, but it sure does pack a punch with quality food and customer service. I ordered 3 lengua tacos, a side of rice and beans, 2 bottled sodas, and my husband ordered the Super burrito- $20. PLENTY of food- we left stuffed. They brought the food out to us faster than we could sit down at the table. We WILL be back, probably for lunch and dinner for the remainder of our stay. Just, amazing. read more

What a horrible experience. Start to finish. Ordered a simple combo, half dozen tacos and a side of beans. To go.. I'll try to describe the ordeal. First off it took almost an hour. Then they left the order sitting on the counter waiting. But, didn't bother to say anything. That left everything cold. The Carnitas... sad. So dry, I'm still waiting for the dust to clear. And don't bother asking for carrots. The arrogant racist waitress will tell you, they are too upscale for that. Nor, do they have salsa for the tacos. But, be ready for degrading racist language, if you don't leave a tip. Hint - Gringa estupido, isn't a difficult translation. Again, what a horrible experience. Small hole in the wall and absolutely DELICIOUS! Chicken taquitos were very tasty, carne asada taco was the best I have had in Idaho this far and the bean and cheese burrito was simple but one of the best I have eaten. The cashier blamed the cooks and then said they didn't want to move the food onto a plate. I don't care whose mistake it was. Someone should have apologized and said, "We'll remake your order the way you requested." Please train your employees, bring back the quality food you used to serve, and when a mistake happens, make it right. That's what keeps customers coming back.
