It's a real treat when I get to visit Cafe Rose (formerly The Cupcakerie). Best known for their desserts, the breakfast and brunch menu is excellent. Everything I have ever ordered has been delicious, but today's meal was a homerun batted right out of the park! Their shrimp & grits is utterly amazing. Yummy grilled shrimp over super rich creamy cheesy richly seasoned grits full of bacon and shrimp flavor. It's a nice sized portion. I left fully satisfied. Also took home lox and bagel to go, because it's so tasty, I decided to be decadent and have that for dinner. And of course I had to choose two tempting cupcakes to go as well. I've been to the new location a few times, and while the food has always been fine, the service is lacking! My parents were in town this weekend, and we went for brunch. We placed our drink orders and 20 some minutes had gone by with nothing. They weren't busy whatsoever. I finally stopped our server as she went to wipe down another table and asked her. She appeared a little caught off guard and confused, but ultimately said sorry and went to get them. Another 5ish minutes went by for another employee to tell my dad his drink was unavailable, and approx. another 10 for my mom & I to finally get our drinks. We had our food before we got our drinks. A part of me almost expected the drinks to be taken off the final bill, but nope! I've given them a few chances now, and ultimately will probably just take my business elsewhere moving forward. Now at 3200 Collins Ferry Road, The Cupcakerie Café and Frosé serves more than just cupcakes. They offer brunch daily from 10 - 2 and it features breakfast items as well as soups, salads, and sandwiches. We had the Dagwood Club, the Mushroom Melt, and the Greek salad. The sandwiches were excellent and they were served with kettle chips and house-made pickle spears and pickled red onions. They also offer a dinner menu from 4 -7 Monday through Saturday. The restaurant is open and bright. The decor is tasteful and leans toward feminine. The staff is friendly and attentive. The prices are reasonable. While there be sure to check out all the interesting merchandise they offer for sale. I hope to see jars of those house-made pickles on their shelves someday. read more

I really wanted to love this place! We went for brunch and the service was really bad... never got checked on by our waitress...didn't even get our water refilled. Wasn't even busy either probably about 2-3 other tables in the whole place. We saw her sit down and eat food while we were waiting for service. Got our food order wrong as well and never came back to check how everything was. Food was alright for the most part, our hash browns were cold and eggs tasted weird. read more

I was blessed to receive a gluten free cake for my birthday. Being gluten free due to Celiac, this was truly a rare treat. I have never been much of a cake person but this was moist and full of delicious flavor. I have really enjoyed it. And no gluten side effects!!! A lot of places that claim to have gluten free options do not really understand that a tiny bit (breadcrumb) can send us into auto-immune response. So to get a cake from a bakery that is full of wheat flour and not get cross-contaminated was wonderful in itself. Thank you for being careful as well as great at your craft. read more

LONG POST ALERT, PLEASE READ!! If we had any vendor regrets, it definitely was going with The Cupcakerie for our recent September 5th 2020 wedding. We had our wedding at Lakeview Golf Resort, which is contracted with The Cupcakerie, and another local bakery for wedding cakes and cupcakes. Because of this, we expected a smooth and professional process and got the exact opposite. It was difficult to get in contact with The Cupcakerie from the start, as the owner Anna is the only one that deals with wedding cakes and cupcakes, and each time I called, it was the same unhelpful worker who seemed to not know a single thing about what we were inquiring about. There was so much miscommunication throughout the entire process; I made it very clear in all of my phone calls to the Cupcakerie and to Anna that we were inquiring about a wedding cake. When we came in for our tasting, we were told she cold only do a 40 person cake. That was okay with us, as we were planning on having other desserts for our guests. After postponing our May wedding to September due to COVID, we thought details would have already been worked out by then. About a month before our wedding, we added 75 cupcakes to our order with our cake, which was "ok-ed" by Anna. Since Lakeview is contracted with Cupcakerie, Lakeview receives the bill, since we already paid Lakeview in our catering payments that included desserts. There was constant emailing back for forth from our coordinator saying she cannot get in contact with Anna for the bill to find out how much money we have left over from our cake and cupcakes to go towards our open bar. We got an email late at night two nights before our wedding, from Anna saying that she found out our guarantee at Lakeview was 140 guests and that she is obligated to make that many cupcakes. Never were we relayed that info or asked how many guests we were expecting when she agreed to the 75 we had asked for since we had other desserts for guests provided. We called her the next morning and the blame was put on Lakeview for the miscommunication, which we found out from our coordinator that the blame was put on us, the bride and groom when Anna spoke to her. Our coordinator told us that she also charged us a delivery fee, which would have been free if we had picked up our desserts ourselves (never was made an option to us). Anna knew we were planning on using the extra funds left over towards our open bar and went back on what we agreed on over the phone that very morning. We asked our coordinator to call her and cancel the cupcakes, and Anna agreed to do so as long as we wouldn't write a bad review. How absolutely unprofessional to put a bride and groom through such stress the NIGHT before their wedding and know they messed up to have to ask to not write a bad review. We never even signed a contract. When it came to our actual wedding cake, it tasted absolutely awful, not what we tasted months ago. It was supposed to be tiramisu flavored, and was dry. My family who ate it said they could not even finish it. We don't even want to bother saving our top tier. Thanks to the cupcakerie for an awful wedding cake experience we will never forget. read more

I stopped by The Cupcakerie a few weeks ago, wanting to give it a second try after trying it for the first time several years ago. I was disappointed to find that the cupcakes were still as dry as they were a few years ago. Also the woman working the afternoon I stopped in was less than friendly and definitely gave off a rude vibe. Maybe in a few more years I'll give it a third try, but I certainly won't be back for a while. I made a quick stop here while on a road trip for work based on a coworker's recommendation and I was thrilled that I did! The mini cupcakes were fantastic! I did a small sampler with 6 flavors and each was unique and delicious. My favorite was the chocolate peanut butter with a mini Reeses cup inside the cupcake. The icing is on the sweeter side and the cupcakes each have a unique decorative appearance. The girl working the counter was attentive and friendly as she helped me pick my flavors. Just moved to Morgantown and was downtown running some errands and happened upon this cupcake shop. Cute inside. Fun decor. There were probably 10 different flavors of cupcakes to choose from and you can do full sized (I think they cost $2.75) and minis ($1.50) I decided on getting 3 minis so I could try a few different flavors. I went with French toast, peach and a chocolate peanut butter one, but I forget what they call it. The first cupcake i ate was the French toast one and it was at best forgettable. I actually had to stop and think what my 3rd cupcake was when i started to write this review. I know i didn't like the bacon on it. I dont really have anything else to say about that one because i honestly dont remember much about it other than disappointment. Now peach was a different story. When I ate that one I almost cried because it was so good I had wished all my cupcakes were peach. I didnt like the sugar pieces they sprinkled on top. I just dont think they are necessary or added anything to the cupcake. I dont need something crunchy on my cupcake. That's just my opinion. Other people might like it. It was great though. Light icing. Nice flavor. A little peach chunk inside. So good! My final cupcake, the chocolate peanut butter one, was excellent too. Peanuts on top of the icing. Now this is a time where the crunch factor actually added to the cupcake. The chocolate cupcake had nice flavor and there is a little peanut butter cut inside. Delicious! I'm happy I tried 3. I guess I wish I would have gotten something other than French toast but now I know not to get that one again. The Good: The store is decorated very nicely, and the staff generally seems nice. The cupcakes sometimes have original flavors. The Bad: Everything else. These cupcakes taste like those you can make out of a box, not much better. There wasn't anything overwhelmingly worth about $4-$5 for a normal size (as in the ones you make at home) cupcake, much less $2 for a mini cupcake I can finish several of in one bite. The frosting is the only thing keeping these from being Betty Crocker cupcakes. Definitely not worth the money. Tip: Save the money, go to Kroger/Giant Eagle and make them yourself. The hubby had a meeting in Morgantown and found this place knowing I am a total cupcake junkie. What a nice surprise...he brought them home for me. He got an assortment to try. I have to say, yummy! The cake is moist and flavorful and the icing is sweet but not overly so. My favorite, lemon poppy. It is one if the best cupcakes ever! The cannoli is good but the icing is a tad on the side of too sweet. And their regular chocolate and vanillas are scrumptious. While visiting a friend in Morgantown we happened to walk by this cupcake shop which touted itself as "the best dessert in Morgantown." Considering Mo-town probably doesn't have many sweet shops and that this is probably the only cupcake shop in the entire town, I kind of scoffed at the sign. Boy was I wrong. When you first walk in, it's all sorts of tacky pink... in a good way, if you can imagine that. It's a totally girly shop and I loved it! Most cupcake shops are trying to be too cute or minimalist and I love that the owners of this shop just took pink and cupcakes and ran with it. When you first approach the counter there seems like there aren't many options but they don't need many. I settled on the bacon chocolate (bacon!) and the peanut butter cup. I loved that all the flavors came in both regular and mini sizes, which was perfect as my friends and I had just come from lunch. The cupcakes were SO GOOD! They were perfectly moist, airy, and had just the right amount of icing (just a little swirl on top) and it wasn't heavy. The bacon cupcake had some sort of salty flair going on with it (bacon fat? salt?) and was topped with a couple bits of bacon. The peanut butter one had a nice surprise - there was a mini Reese's peanut butter cup wedged inside the cupcake, and it was also topped with a peanut. The staff was super nice and patient despite our drooling over the displays and me going crazy taking photos of the pinkness of the shop (and taking cheesy photos with the giant cupcake out front). They also sell coffee and hot chocolate, greeting cards, cute cupcake doo dads, and apparently if you buy 12 cupcakes you get one free. Kudos to The Cupcakerie. You definitely earned the title of Best Dessert in Morgantown. read more

So excited to finally have a cupcake store-front in Morgantown, it's just what downtown needed. I tried 2 flavors of the mini cupcakes, which unfortunately seem overpriced for $1.25 for one bite cupcakes. The Apple Pie mini was great, wish I would have splurged for the regular on that one. The interior is really cute and quaint, service was still in "training" mode when I went a few weeks ago, which is forgive-able. The regular cupcake could have used more frosting, the frosting:cupcake ratio was a bit low for me, but the moistness of the cake certainly makes up for that (I'm not a fan of when frosting overpowers the flavor of the cake either). I give this place 5 stars for customer service! They were great. The cupcakes are also delicious - not necessarily the most mind blowing or amazing cupcakes ever, but tasty. However, I was able to order a dozen cupcakes online (which is awesome, since I don't live in Morgantown and was only going to be visiting for Mothers Day). When I came in to pick up, my order was ready and waiting. And since it was Mothers Day weekend, they added some ribbon and flowers for just $5 extra dollars. Perfect! And what's more? They had greeting cards available, which really made it a one-stop-shop. And because the woman working understood my predicament, she let me use some of their colorful sharpies to fill out the card right then and there. Let me start by saying that I LOVE these cupcakes. They're absolutely delicious. The flavors are great and original, the icing is to die for, and most of the time, you find a little surprise in your cupcake (like Reese's cups or filling!). I love the vanilla with chocolate frosting. The cake is super airy and the frosting is sooo chocolatey! I'm originally from Pittsburgh and as a cupcake connoisseur, I have tried many cupcake selections in the area including Bethel Bakery and Vanilla Pastry Studio. I can honestly say that the Cupcakerie's creations top anything other cupcake I've ever eaten! Skip the grocery store cupcakes and go here instead. My only complaint is that they have a ton of flavors on the website, but there are only 5 or 6 offered everyday in the store. Also, their Red Velvet is NOT traditional. It's like a cherry flavored cake with almond icing... Meh. Other than that, you need to go and try them. You will not be disappointed. Side note: Although they are closed on Sundays, Gloria Jean's Coffee Shop in the Morgantown Mall always has a small selection of the Cupcakerie's Cupcakes, and they are most often not flavors that you typically see in the store. read more

The Cupcakerie is wonderfully decorated inside and the staff is quite friendly. This is always a plus! I thought the pumpkin jumbo cupcake was pretty good. The cake portion was moist and aromatic. The frosting was just the right amount and had a hint of almond flavoring to it. Frosting is usually what ruins the cupcake for me but not here. This cupcake was just perfect and I'm glad I chose the pumpkin flavored cupcake. There are other flavors available as shown on the website but not all the flavors are baked daily. =( I would call ahead to make sure the flavor you want is baked that day otherwise you may be disappointed. 3.5 stars- I'm a fan of cupcakes and I'd come back to try the other flavors. read more

I am SO excited about a cupcake shop! I stopped by randomly one day and it was packed! Sadly, they only have a small amount of cupcakes available at one time, but the two types that I tried were delicious - Pumpkin Spice (favorite) & Rocky Road. The cake was moist and the frosting was nice and light! Note: I hate super thick icing that tastes like straight butter or sugar (yuck). The staff was super friendly and had a cute, little shop, which was decorated nicely. There isn't much seating, but it doesn't take long to eat the cupcakes either. It is a bit overpriced for the size of the product, but I would definitely recommend as your occasional indulgence. I know I plan on going back to try the other flavors. ^_^ read more

Unfortunately like most other things this year we were not able to fly to our mother/grandmothers 90th birthday party. We came up with the idea pretty last minute to send her a cake. We filled out the request form Friday night to be delivered on Monday. We got a reply right away on Saturday morning that they would be able to deliver the cupcake with short notice. We were ecstatic. It looked gorgeous but the icing on the cake was the handwritten note and they signed all of our names. I didn't get the chance to taste the cupcake, but I heard it was great. These are overpriced and at least a day old cupcakes. I've tried these multiple times on different days of the week and each time the cupcakes are stale. The frosting is "weird" for a lack of a better word, kind of like the kind you get at Walmart or Kroger. As a former WVU student, and a self-proclaimed 'cupcake connoiseur,' I was so excited to hear that Morgantown got a cupcake bakery. After a recent weekend trip up to Morgantown with friends, I am not nearly as excited about this bakery. We went in to pick up a few cupcakes to try out. As soon as we walked in, we noticed there was no one around... several minutes later, a girl came out from the back room and with no personality asked what she could get us. I was immediately turned off by the poor customer service. There was no smile, no greeting, no feeling of being welcomed into the shop. Despite the awkward silence between us and the employee, we ordered a dozen mini cupcakes for a grand total of $15 and headed to a friends house on the opposite side of town. To be honest, if we would've tried the cupcakes in the store, or even in the vicinity of the downtown area, I probably would've gone back and asked for my money back. To begin, the variety available was somewhat disappointing. We stopped in before 12:00 noon and there may have only been 5 or 6 different flavors available in the mini cupcakes. Upon tasting them, the disappointment continued. I actually spit 2 of the flavors out! The Chocolate Raspberry and the Chocolate Bacon (with what I think was maple frosting on top) were quite possibly the worst I've ever tasted! Very artificial and bland. A few had the exact same almond flavored buttercream on top and that was just the wrong combo of cake and frosting! All in all, none of them really stood out to me, or my friends. Other reviews I read mentioned that these cupcakes taste like a Betty Crocker or store bought cake mix... honestly, I wouldn't even give them that much credit. As a fellow baker and business woman, I may be a bit of a snob when it comes to flavors, textures, quality of products, etc. But I didn't experience any of these things from The Cupcakerie cupcakes. Unfortunately, I don't live in Morgantown anymore so I don't have the opportunity to go back to The Cupcakerie to give them a second chance...I suppose I could give them the benefit of the doubt and say "it was a bad cupcake day" but I still don't think i'll find myself visiting The Cupcakerie again. read more

The Cupcakerie might know how to crank out a great cupcake, but the way they treated the bride of the wedding I was just in was ludicrous. The bride signed a contract for a cake only, and later came back and decided she wanted to add 75 cupcakes. They confirmed on the phone that that wouldn't be a problem at all and gave her a price. Then, ONE DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING, they emailed her at MIDNIGHT to tell her that they weren't allowed to order only 75, and the bare minimum was 140. Apparently this has always been their policy, and the lady she talked to was the same one both times, so she obviously knew. They claimed that they would be forced to purchase 140 because they signed a contract, but the contract had no mention of cupcakes at all. Then, they agreed to nix the whole cupcake order all together and not force them to pay for those, under the condition that they wouldn't write a bad review. Can you imagine being so shady with your customers that you have to offer to do the right thing, but ONLY if they don't make you look bad? A good cupcake isn't worth working with a company that doesn't value ethics and integrity. read more

They have a nice variety of rotating flavors. I've probably tried 20 different flavors. However, only about one in 10 flavors is actually good. They frequently mismatch frosting styles with cake flavors and textures. Individually, their cakes and frostings are almost all good, but when they frost the wrong cake with the wrong kind of frosting, it just feels like a waste of calories. I'm huge cake connoisseur and have even made the hajj to Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken and I would rather go to Kroger or Giant Eagle for cake in Morgantown than risk the 90% chance of disappointment that the Cupcakerie has given me. The store, however, is very cute and the staff is all very helpful and friendly, so it's a nice place to visit. If you like Reese's cups, try the peanut butter chocolate cupcake. It's their best! She went to the back and disappeared for 10 minutes, and came back with 2 full coffee cups of frosting (that tasted like crap btw). I only wanted a little drop of extra frosting. We happened upon this little shop while walking around town for my first visit to Morgantown. It is adorable inside! They have coffee as well as cupcakes- and mini ones, too! This was great after we had lunch and didnt want a huge cupcake. I had their mini chocolate peanut butter cupcake- it was devine! The frosting was not too sweet, the cake moist and delicious. And it was topped with a mini resse's cup under the icing and peanut on top of the icing! It was a perfect little dessert!
