The good: - food is INCREDIBLY delicious, like out of this world good. We tried the beef empanadas and mushroom croquettes for apps, dibi senegal (grilled lamb chops with rice and plantains) and the mafe (peanut stew with beef)-- nothing was left on our plates at the end. The things that can be improved: - the service was quite chaotic- we had made this reservation days in advance and were seated and had already placed our order for appetizers (or so we thought) when the waiter regretted to inform us that we'd have to be moved to a different table. The table we were moved to was right in the middle of the restaurant but by the door and it felt like we were being bumped into all night - as it turns out, the waiter moved us but never did place our appetizer order. So we waited, and waited, and no food came. They even served a table who came in after us! We did find it super strange but figured maybe our food was taking longer? Anyway eventually the waiter realized what happened and came over to take our order for the apps and also our entree (as at this point we had been seated closer to 45 mins). He also offered us each a free drink "on the house" if we wanted as an apology for the wait. Two of the three of us took him up on the offer and ordered two mocktails. As it turns out, at the end of the night when we got the bill, both of these mocktails were added on to our bill, despite what we were told that they'd be "on the house" - my friend ordered a dish to go - which she wanted to take for her mom- and they forgot to add it to the bill or place the order so at the end of the night my friend had to leave empty handed and disappoint her mom who was very excited to try the dish. My friend and I had gone to a creole restaurant for dinner and disappointed that they didn't have any beignets. Instead, we came to Cafe Rue Dix and placed a pick up order since they were closing soon. Upon our arrival, the beignets were ready and the staff was kind enough to let us eat them there. The beignets didn't quite hit the mark for me because they ideally would have been softer and the chocolate sauce was kind of hard to dip into. Outside of that, I thought the restaurant was cozy and the bartender we were talking to that night was really informative. We learned a few new discoveries that night about different types of gin. I ordered take out from here and the Senagalese flavors did not disappoint. I ordered the thiebou jen which is my favorite Senegalese fish and it was really good. I also got a side of the onion confit which is typically served with the yassa and it was also really good on the jollof rice. I got it delivered and it was hot and as ordered. This place has been on my list for a while and finally decided to visit on a Friday night. I did make a reservation - but it was also earlier in the evening - so it wasn't too busy. However, it did pick up a bit a little while after we arrived (I think you can easily get away with walking in with a smaller table). I'd never had Senegalese food before and wasn't sure what to expect. After this visit, there is no question why this place has such high ratings.   I want to start with my one and only complaint; service is slow. The staff make the place feel homey, but it was also only like 2 people working, so everything moved slower than anticipated. It would be great if they could get more help. Regardless though, the wait was worth it. I got the Yassa Guinar (chicken stew) over white rice and the Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert. God bless the chef and Senegal. That stew was spicy, ngl, but ohh it was so good. There is a side of onion confit included in the meal which elevates the dish beyond comprehension. I loved that meal. I'm all about trying something new whenever you go back to a restaurant, but I fear I may have to get that the next time I visit. The chocolate lava cake was a perfect sweet ending to the meal. Like any good Brooklyn restaurant they did a good job of maximizing and decorating the space. I'm not familiar enough with Senegal to say it mimicked the culture but I knew I wasn't in 'Merica anymore. We went early on a Saturday and were seated quickly. Waitress was attentive and fairly knowledgeable about the menu and able to gain quick clarity on any questions. I was dining with a non spice lover so that mattered. My dining partner started with the ginger carrot soup. It was very aromatic and herby. She loved it. I ordered the tasting menu that started with Spicy potato nems. Basically a spicey white potato egg roll. Cooked perfectly but very peppery. 2nd course was a beet and goat cheese salad. Dressed nicely but not heavily. 3rd course was the Dibi Senegal which was fantastic. Smokey char on the lamb chop with 4 plump plantains and served on a bed of the best wilted kale I've ever tasted. Flavor bomb and highly recommend! The savory course finished with the Thiebou Jen - it wasn't my cup of tea. The flavor was there but stewed fish was way over cooked for me. My dining partner enjoyed it tho. My dining partner's entree was the thiebou yapp. Sweet heaven! Every bite was a succulent, savory burst in our mouths! A meaty lamb shank on a bed of seasoned rice with sautéed bell peppers and a side of diced pickles and tomatoes. I finished strong with the most perfect bread pudding that barely had a hint of sweetness. It came with clouds of whip cream and strawberries. It was so good. Light, fluffy, perfect finish. This is a gorgeous space- covered in traditional west African masks and aesthetic , the bar is lit with gourd and cowrie shell pendants. And the menu carries classic Senegalese dishes- one of my favorite cuisines (my maternal side is Tunisian, so these flavors and combinations are magical for me). The waiter was wearing a handmade mask of his own- a paper form of matches coming out from his eyes - an invitation to be lit with ideas and inspiration and that is feeling here. Homemade gorgeous food- I had the spring rolls and my husband had the lamb: the rice, plain and sticky white, was delicious! Plantains were perfect and plenty of succulent lamb, and not too young so it's flavorful- the way it should taste. I'm surprised after all these years I never wrote a review for Cafe Rue Dix. This restaurant will always have a special place in my heart - when I first moved to Prospect Heights in 2014, my neighboring friend who happened to live in Bed Stuy suggested this place as a central meeting spot. This was probably my second meal eating out after moving to NYC (with the first being Gladys - RIP!). The cozy atmosphere in the dead of winter, the lively atmosphere, and the superb service and food, has always been imprinted on my brain. Over the years, Cafe Rue Dix has served as an all-purpose restaurant for me. Perfect for brunch when no one can decide where to go, a stop for a bite after a trip to the museum, and a great place to meet up with friend(s). The seafood here is excellent, the fish fresh, and the portions are very reasonable for the price. This was my first introduction to Senegalese food - although I would say the menu is quite expansive, reflecting many American/traditional items, and with some French representation reflecting its colonial past. You can't go wrong at Cafe Rue Dix - if you haven't been here, definitely come check it out! Went for an early Saturday brunch as they were one of the only sit down restaurants in the area open at 10am. Got the omelette bohemian with a side salad. Although I opted for a salad as my side--I loved that they give you the option to order half fries and half salad (bc, duality ). The omelette tasted way better than it looks--I promise! We came here for HH and dinner. HH drinks were very basic and maybe had a 1/2oz of liquor between both drink. I also saw a man next to me eating the stew beef and he raved about it so I'm planning to try that on my next visit. Small, some might say cute, place. And the food wasn't bad. That's the nicest I can say. Service was simply AWFUL on this Sunday afternoon. After being seated at a small outdoor table, the four of us waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged and provided menus. Then another 15 before our server floated over to take our orders (drinks and meals). 20 minutes after that our food and drinks came out piecemeal -- including incorrect items (1 food item and 2 of 4 drinks were wrong). The two servers working both channeled aliens. They seemingly couldn't care less. Perhaps casual-and-distracted is the intended vibe here -- but I just don't get it. Add a somewhat aggressive price structure, and it doesn't seem like a winning strategy to me. The upshot: with our moods tempered by a poorly-run operation (and the distinct olefactory intrusion of several overflowing garbage cans from next door neighbors), we did our best to tolerate. This review is not related to the quality of the food, but their customer service when it comes to purchasing an e-gift card. I purchased a gift card on 12/3 to be delivered electronically to my friend on 12/13 for her birthday. I received an emailed receipt, confirmed the email address multiple times, but no gift card was ever received. Then I received an email on 12/20 stating the gift card was opened, but I have no idea how when it was never received. I attempted to email the cafe twice and called four times with no assistance. Every time I called I was told the general manager would have to address this issue but every time we called he was never in or available. On the online receipt there is no way to request a refund. I am disappointed because this cafe seemed like a wonderful cultural experience and I wanted my friend to enjoy it. read more

Let me preface this by saying the food is delicious. The service was great. The restaurant is small but cute. The music is too loud for my taste. The reason for the one star is for the manager. I wrote to the manager several times as I wanted to host a Sunday brunch for twenty people. I called a few times as well but no response. That's when I decided to go directly to the restaurant. The day I went the manager was not in as of yet. The waitress had me write a note and she promised she would give it to him. Fast forward a few days and still no communication. What a fantastic evening! This was a perfect ending to the evening. We enjoyed this after a visit to the Brooklyn museum and botanical gardens which were nearby. The ambiance and mood of this place is always perfect. It is definitely a romantic, sexy spot. It is also incredibly intimate. The servers were very knowledgeable about the food and wines. They were willing to answer any questions that we had. They were also extremely attentive without being overbearing which was very nice. We ended up having the lamb shank which was literally falling off the bone. It was absolutely delicious. It was spicy which I liked and this was indicated on the menu beforehand. A very cute, vibey restaurant in Crown Heights. Had dinner on a Tuesday evening with reservations. Although, the restaurant was never too full so it would've been fine if we walked in. We ordered appetizers of the puffed breads and flavorful beef patties juicy ground beef, warm seasonings with a very spicy pepper blend dipping sauce.GO EASY it's mostly habaneros. Hubby found that out quickly, LOL. I was served red snapper of a delighted bed of Jasmine rice pilaf, cooked probably with Jasmine tea. Hubby had delicious well cooked lamb chops seasoned well with Africian warm spices he also enjoyed his meal. My son and wife had burger they looked super good with fries. Just not ordinary meat patties slapped on thr grill but also seasoned with spices. My Yelp bud and I were excited to finally meet up again and chose Cafe Rue Dix after browsing at a few places. I arrived a little early and followed the instructions to go to the window for service. I was offered any open table and a server would come out soon. Very nice! I found a a seat in the cute outdoor structure and waited for my friend. They server brought out the tableware and a bottle of chilled, filtered water (thank God, I was so thirsty) and set up the table tent with the QR menu code. The online offerings are far more extensive, there is something for everyone. We were torn between the many delicious looking choices. We ordered drinks and continued to rationalized and deduce our way through the menu. Drink appeared quickly and they were delicious! I went for the Garden de Sengal and she had the Ginger queen. We finally ordered fataya (v), Theibou Djen and the Branzino/Fish Yassa (our server was sweet and bought out a bit of the onions to try first... they were official). The The food came out very quickly, my friend had just taken a bite of her appetizer. We took a bite of the food and let me tell you, it was delicious!!!!
