    Come Chop Suya bowl

I have been wanting to try Nigerian food for several years and it's the one ethnic cuisine we don't seem to have out on Long Island. I was in the city to see Titanique (Highly recommended! Absolutely hysterical!!) and finally had my shot with some extra time to go searching. Thanks to Yelp, I found Teranga in the middle of an office building food court. The atmosphere was quite pleasant and the food smelled and looked terrific. I asked Anna for her recommendations and told her to just hook me up with whatever she thought I would like. She asked me about my heat preference and I told her I was a good six or seven out of 10. She gave me the Come Chop Suya Super Bowl and it was very delicious. Not spicy at all. There were two sauces with it, a peanut one that was like satay and a green one with a little bit of kick that was a lot like what you get with Indian food. Each element of the food bowl was quite tasty and it really hit the spot. I will definitely go back and try again to sample more things. I regret that I only had one meal to try. It's a pleasant venue, the service was friendly and helpful and the food was outstanding. I hope they figure out that we have a Nigerian food desert out on Long Island and come open a second location. I should add that I went at around 3:30 and there were absolutely no lines anywhere. The other places looked nice as well but I can get the other cuisines out by me. This was something special and I am glad we went out of our way to find it. Yelp to the rescue again. My dining partner ate something from the Mediterranean kiosk and liked her food as well. She was not brave enough to try a new cuisine. She missed out.

Ordered ahead for pickup and had a great lunch from here. Suya Super Bowl with chicken was really good and the portion was huge. And spicy! Bissap (hibiscus juice) was excellent.

    Chicken Mafe Peanut Bowl

Loved the chicken mafe bowl! Chicken was tender and bite sized, well seasoned alone and super rich and peanuts sauce added on the side. For the sides, the rice was fluffy and delicious even on its own; the beans was standard cooked and sauced just enough with good portion for some healthy fiber; the plantain were sweet and added pops of complimentary flavor to the richer deep aspects of the dish; the small tangy salsa(?) as well gave good contrast for the pallet. The bowl was well priced for the fantastic flavors! Service was straight forward and fast and efficient even during the lunch rush. Lots of space to sit in the food hall and great social space to grab a meal with friends or coworkers alike. Busy but clean and organized location.

I understand the hype. Its located in The Hugh dining hall. The line was massive. The food is halal. This is a great way to tap into West African cuisine. I went with some coworkers and was not disappointed at all. I had the Yassa Yassa Chicken Bowl (came out to about 18 dollars, its not a cheap lunch). It was delicious. The onion soup on the side is earthy and rich in flavor. The chicken bowl is spicy, tons of warm spices and vibrant. It was my first taste into West African food and I loved it. The staff are also one of the friendliest in the Hugh.

Imagine stepping into a culinary haven in the heart of Midtown, where art meets flavor and every bite tells a story. My curiosity took me to Teranga, a standout for African cuisine, nestled within The Hugh--a large food market that will captivate you from the moment you walk in. The Jollof bowl was a highlight, perfectly portioned so you feel satisfied but not stuffed. You get a nice portion of black eyed peas, jollof rice, citrus salmon and lightly sauteed greens. What really caught my attention was the separate bowl of sautéed onions--such a thoughtful touch that added a burst of flavor to each bite.: Teranga's dishes are not only delicious but also nutritious, making it a great choice for health-conscious foodies.

Teranga is a West African build-your-own-bowl style restaurant located inside The Hugh, a fancy food hall conveniently located in Midtown East. You can pick your base, main, sides, sauce and hot sauce. This was my first time trying West African or Senegalese food and it surpassed my expectation. There are 15 food vendors with a variety of world cuisines in The Hugh. The pricing is relatively affordable compared to other restaurants in Midtown area. The food hall is clean, spacious and comfy with restrooms. Perfect spot for having lunch with coworkers. *Chicken Mafe Bowl $17 We opted for a grilled chicken bowl with a savory peanut sauce (mafe). The sauce tasted like satay imo. The chicken was cooked to perfect tenderness. Imagine it was similar to satay chicken skewer with an African spin. The jollof rice on the bottom absorbed the rich and nutty flavors from the sauce. It was so flavorful that I couldn't stop but kept digging into the rice. They also put black eyed pea stew which served as a welcoming addition to the creaminess. While the mafe and moyo sauces weren't really spicy, the spice from the kelewele sweet plaintains caught us off guard. The portion was very big. I shared it with my friend and we still couldn't finish it (We had a small appetite though). So the portion size should be perfect for a grown man. ***Many vendors don't open on weekends. FYI Teranga opens Mon through Sat every week.

It was definitely different. It's like they tried to fuse African dishes with a rice bowl. The food was good. Didn't really satisfy the craving for jollof rice that I had because they were trying to fuse other cuisines. It's inside of food court so there's nothing to really say about ambiance. The service was good.

Inside the Hugh food court! I loved the chicken suya custom bowl -- with plantains. Their sauces are so good, get the onion one! Really juicy chicken.

The Hugh has such a wonderful atmosphere to grab lunch. Very open, natural light, and lots of seating. The food was great. I really love the plantains that come with the food and felt full after eating. The jollof rice was overcooked but had great flavor. Put some salt and pepper on the food especially for plantains.

Nestled in the Hugh building, Teranga is a cool African bowl spot. My friend and I dropped by for a quick pickup dinner. Service was quick, nice and friendly. The flavors were super tasty and a nice treat which is different from your normal chiptotle flavors. The various sauces were super fun to try with all the food. I was the biggest fan of the chicken, and relied on the sauce to elevate it... but overall a great tasty dinner pickup spot! The bowls are slightly more pricey, but well worth a cuisine and flavors that are not as commonly found in Midtown.

This food is sooooo good and flavorful. Omg you have to try. The chicken is so juicy and well seasoned.

    The restaurant

The food was excellent!! The food was exceptionally flavorful and the chicken was very tender. I also loved the plantains and rice that came with the dish!! Highly recommend this place. Atmosphere is a little noisy as it is the food court at the Hugh, but that is just me. Service was also very friendly. I definitely would come back.

    Chicken suya super bowl
    DrDuru A.

I came here thinking I was getting Nigerian food. What I got was a west African delight! I went in search of chicken suya, so I ordered the suya chicken super bowl. It's a different take than I am used to but it works. The suya spice was just right. The joloff rice was cooked well and was even more delicious with the peanut sauce (mafe) poured on. Kelewele was fried just right and sweet. I don't like black eyed peas but I ate the mix with okra stew and sweet potato anyway. Called ndambe it definitely changed my attitude about black eyed peas. Delicious! I don't even know how to describe my sideways baobab cocktail. You'll just have to try the refreshing drink for yourself. Finally the ambiance is great. Big windows for street watching and natural light. African music. Wide open spaces. A reading area in the back. Quite the experience!

Nothing fancy, just delicious food for an unbelievable price. When you walk into this large spacious "cafeteria" with steam trays, it looks clean and quiet. There was a lady at the cash register that wasn't too helpful, but I guess the communication barrier played a part. At $8.99 per pound, you can really fill up here for an insanely good price. My favorites have been the beef dishes and therefore often skip all the chicken items. However, feel free to make a plate anyway you like. At the end of the day, I'm sure it'll be great.

The spicing can be quite different from other styles of cuisine, but whether or not you like it is a personal decision. I liked most of the food that was offered. I found the baked chicken to be excellent. The stewed chicken and the goat dish were also very good. Vegetables are all excellent...from greens to cabbage to carrots...all are delicious. The whole fish has a distinctive strong taste that took some getting used to...perhaps a lot of paprika and red pepper, but I'm not really sure...certainly a nice portion size. Staff is very friendly and hospitable. Highly recommended.

This spot is located inside an African museum. It is a small place when you walk in. The food is all cooked and laid out on trays. I asked the attendant what is the best dish and he asked if I want spicy or not. I said no spicy and he made the chicken bowl recommendation. The bowl was delicious ! Rice was cooked al dente, chicken juicy, beans so tender and topped with plantains! I have not been a fan of plantains but this one was delicious. And flavor profile was strong and hearty. Hubby loved the bowl too. This time we shared one but next time he's getting his own! We will def take a trip up again next time!

My fiancé ordered a Yassa Yassa Grilled Chicken Bowl and I ordered a custom bowl. The delivery was very quick and it got to where we were faster than I expected which was a plus. Service was very good! I got a call saying one of the sauces I wanted was out unfortunately but they were helpful in providing me with alternatives. The Yassa Yassa bowl was very delicious, full of bold flavors, and a beautiful contrast between the spicy aromatic jollof, the sweet plantains, and the tangy onion sauce. The chicken in this bowl was definitely a little overdone and could have used more flavor. For my custom bowl, I got a chicken suya bowl with jollof as my base, plantains and the kale stew (Efo riro ) as sides and initially wanted the peanut (mafe) sauce which they were out of so I also tried the yassa or onion sauce. My bowl was absolutely delicious! Same bold flavors as the first bowl but the chicken was juicy, tender, and well spiced. Made all the difference! Both came with a nice chimichurri like spicy sauce called rof which I really enjoyed since it added a spicy, herbal, bright kick to the bowl. This place has amazing flavor and is very filling! I love the fast casual nature of it and how nourishing it feels. This is basically a Chipotle but West African inspired. The portion of meat was very generous in each bowl which was nice. The jollof was amazing! Highly recommend trying one of their suya meats since the seasoning is incomparable! Will be going back again for more bowls in the future.

Then, moments after a table left they moved us and merged tables so we could comfortably dine. This was so intelligent and comforting imo. Most managers/owners would be afraid to do that, but when you're dealing with mom & pop cultured businesses they make you feel a part of the village so make it work for everybody to eat & enjoy. They handled it professionally and with respect to the customer as we listened in to how they managed. They were fast, helpful, on it from entry to exit! I appreciated the cushioned seating.
