Butternut squash soup came cold and had to be reheated in a microwave. It tastes like what I imagine the food-flavored packets would taste like in a Brave New World, this being the chemically rendered one that's meant to imitate squash. Oddly the mocha frappe is similar: a flavorless drink of ice-sludge that's redolent of coffee but clearly made from a bottle labeled "artificial coffee flavor".

The three stars here are completely for the study space. Love the historic feel of the coffee shop and the mahogany, wooden tables! Does have outlets for you to study. The latte was not anything special, actually couldn't taste any notes - but very sweet/upbeat staff and loved that she was so patient to give recs.

What an awesome spot! The ambiance was really nice, with lots of spots and outlets to get work done. The vegan elderberry tart was also amazing!!! They have a loyalty deal where after 10 drinks your next one is free. The drinks were also very good and reasonably priced!

Everyone is always very kind and welcoming. Lots of space to plop and get some work done with the mellow music in the background. Love grabbing coffee and studying here

I love my coffee!!! The coffee place is very clean, awesome decor. Employees are very nice and helpful. They have trays and trays of different yummy pastries and sandwiches. Bought a bag of whole coffee beans since we like the coffee. I will definitely come back again for more coffee!

Not a bad option to sit down for an afternoon coffee and get some things done! (If you're the type of person who wants some background noise and not cacophonic, not so-big coffee shop to study - this is one of them.) Went here on a Saturday afternoon and had no problem finding an empty table. I opted for their cold brew, but it was a little too bitter for my liking. Their hot Mocha was great, though and surprisingly portion was more generous than expected. I think service could have been a bit more effective - we had to wait for our order to be up before we pay - and I think that slows down service in general. But otherwise this could be a good option if you happen to be in Brookline area.

Good coffee but the foods are really bad. Good for doing work with laptop here. Really average.

The staff was rude and skipped me in line and didn't take my order, so I went next door to Starbucks much better service.

Very pleasant place, giving Starbucks and Peets (both nearby) a run for their money.

Our server was very welcoming and able to provide us with great insights into the menu. The cocktails were refreshing and tasty. I ordered a 'Spill the Tea' with gin and my husband ordered the matcha colada. I'd love to come back and try more out! As for food, we ordered the mini beef wellington, the banh mi & bone marrow, the curry chicken, and the loco moco. I loved the variety of dishes on the menu and was super impressed by the execution of all of them. They were very flavorful and cooked to perfection, with the mini beef wellington having crispy puff pastry and the bone marrow very tender. Overall, I was impressed by Esmai's creativity and would love to come back to try out more of the menu.

I ordered the hot coconut coffee which was very delicious but maybe a little too sweet. Would definitely order it again with reduced sweetness. My friend ordered the classic hot Vietnamese coffee which was also very good. There aren't many places in Boston that serve Japanese hamburger so I ended up ordering the loco moco and was very impressed by the dish! All the parts of the dish tasted very good and the fruit was also sweet and just the right ripeness. The hamburger steak gravy was also well made and the egg on top had the right level of doneness. The interior of the restaurant was nice and cozy and very well lit. I would definitely check this place out again especially when the weather gets warmer and their roof deck is open!

There's tables mostly for smaller groups, but they easily accommodated us and another large group. I ordered the fig prosciutto panini, which was admittedly smaller than what I was expecting but delicious for breakfast. Coffee saved me from my early morning flight too-- effective and tasty. I think my only knock was that I'd have hoped my particular dish was a bit more generous in portioning, but given a look at the other things my friends ordered, this looks like it's not necessarily the norm across dishes. Great quick bite-- parking is pretty easy on this street in the morning too, so I'd recommend!

The space is super vibrant, filled with bold colors, retro diner touches, and a bunch of quirky statement pieces that make you want to look around before you even check the menu. It feels playful and energetic without being overwhelming...definitely a place that stands out from your typical brunch spot. One of the most unique things about this place is the drink menu. I loved that you can order flights...not just for mimosas, but also spritzers/mixed drink and even coffee-inspired drinks. That's not something you see everywhere, and it made the whole experience feel a little more elevated and fun. Everything we tried was solid across the board. The drinks were well-made, balanced, and honestly just fun to try in a flight format. The menu itself keeps that same energy going with quirky, pop culture-inspired names that make ordering more entertaining than usual. But it's not just about the names, the food actually delivers. The chicken and waffles were a standout: crispy, flavorful, and perfectly paired with the sweetness of the waffle. The traditional breakfast was done right too: simple, classic, and exactly what you'd want when you're craving something familiar. The real surprise for me was the crispy pimento potato bowl with chicken. It was packed and layered with flavor: comforting, a little indulgent, and definitely filling. You can tell they're intentional about how they build their dishes, not just throwing things together. Shoutout to our waitress as well...she really made the experience better. She gave great recommendations, helped us navigate the menu (which has a lot of options), and made sure we picked dishes we'd actually enjoy. That kind of service goes a long way, especially at a busy brunch spot.

I called the restaurant afterwards to talk to a manager and no answer. I sent them a message on their FB and no answer. For a place to be called "The Friendly Toast" that's not friendly behavior at all. The food was good, the decor was very cute, everything went well until that experience. The server's friendliness was clearly fake af! Smh.
