The students were all thrilled with the portions and options, truly something for everyone (pancakes, croissant, eggs and these potatoes I was told were divine). Have heard raving reviews over the years and finally got the chance to check out Landwer for brunch. A bit pricey but portions are huge- I couldn't finish mine and had to bring home leftovers. Got pancakes and Shakshuka with halloumi. I wish there was more halloumi added but the shakshuka itself was light and very flavorful! The pancakes weren't anything to call home about, but I loved that all the toppings came out in separate little dishes. We ordered take-out of old School Vanilla Milkshake, Vanilla Cappuccino and Matcha Cappuccino. No pastries for us this time as they were sold out. The wait-time was long but not too crazy. The cafe is really cute and spacious with a rustic charm and we just couldn't stop admiring the details. Now for the taste, everything tasted decent but nothing extraordinary tho. I braved away from my usual (benedict florentine and pancakes) to try this salmon benedict and was so satisfied. The eggs were cooked to PERFECTION, the saltiness of the salmon complimented the creamy hollandaise, and the crispy potatoes made the perfect side dish. My only complaint was we had three different waiters stop by our table within five minutes to try to take our order. A good friend of mine from Italy that I hadn't seen in a while called me on Saturday and suggested we meet for breakfast. I suggested Landwer and book a table for 4 at 9:30am. Although the food was good the service was terrible! For the first moment we felt that the waitress wanted us out of there. She come three times at the start asking for our order. Before even finishing our food, about 30' in, she brought the check and start taking our plates away. Then about an hour in she said that we need to settle the check and wanted the table. We had a good time with our friends and wanted to stay longer. Finally, about 1h and 20' into the reservation she said we had the leave. Landwer has good food but today we felt we were at a fast food. When I complained to the people at the front desk, they acknowledged that the reservation was for 90' but didn't have an explanation and didn't apologize for the fact that we were pestered constantly to leave almost as soon as we finished our breakfast. read more

This place continues to be an easy staple when trying to find a place with open seats for a group. I am partial to their breakfast menu and wish they served it all day, I find their dinner menu a little less inspiring for vegetarians (but that's personal taste, there are tons of options). On my recent trip here, I went with friends who got the falafel hummus bowl, and I got the Mediterranean fattoush. We had a reservation, were seated promptly (option between inside and outside, chose outside since it was a nice night), and our server came quickly to ask about our orders (we even needed more time to peruse the menu). The food came out quickly too. The salad was great - expensive (compared to what prices here used to be, based on my prior review), but a good portion with lots of vegetables and really good feta. The zaatar pita chips were surprisingly tasty. I only wish there were some chickpeas in it to add a bit more substance. Folks were very happy with the falafel hummus bowl too. read more

We had such a great experience at Cafe Landwer! I ordered the yogurt parfait with seasonal fruit and granola, and it was absolutely wonderful--flavorful and perfectly balanced, with plenty of creamy yogurt, fresh fruit, and crunchy granola. My partner had the vegan breakfast, and wow--what a spread! She started with the vegan omelet, which she topped with guacamole and salsa (so good!), and the meal also included a parfait of yogurt, berries, and granola topped with silan (date syrup). Since we were tight on time, she boxed up the skordalia with artichoke and cherry tomatoes, plus the matbucha and pita bread. She had them later as a snack and said they were heavenly. We were on a schedule and mentioned it when we arrived--our server, Jonathan, was beyond accommodating. He was incredibly kind, helpful, and made sure we picked meals that could come out quickly. He absolutely delivered, and thanks to him, we made it to our Fenway Park tour on time. You could say he hit it out of the ballpark! I went here with my friend who recommended it and it was phenomenal! It was more of a cafe vibe than a restaurant and had lots of fun hot and iced drinks. We got the cauliflower app which was HUGE and then I got the chicken shawarma sandwich with tzaziki on the side and we got the Nutella rugelach for dessert. Everything was 10/10. Each was delicious, but if I had to pick a favorite it was probably the skordalia with fried artichoke followed by the zucchini tzatziki. The falafel was also very good. I'm usually worried it'll be too dry, but this one was perfect and so flavorful. The service was quick and friendly. My sister and I happened to be hanging out in the area and looking for a place for dinner. She'd been here before with positive reviews, so we decided to swing by. There was no problem getting a table outside on a refreshing Friday evening. She got the meatballs (vegan, $17) and I tried the shawarma with focaccia (also vegan, $18). The portions for the shawarma was enormous, and some of it became breakfast the next day. Everything was so delicious and flavorful! The complimentary bread was also a plus. Five months ago, my friend and I came here for dinner. There was no wait and we were seated immediately. The tables were a bit small and felt a bit cramped. We ordered the Falafel hummus bowl, Landwer's shakshuka and the lotus rosalach. For drink, I got the Landwer's iced tea. The falafel hummus bowl came with 4 falafel balls on top of hummus and tahini with 2 pitas on the side. The falafel were crunchy and good and the pitas were piping hot. The shakshuka came with two poached eggs in a spiced tomato stew. It came with a little chopped salad, tahini sauce and pita bread. The shakshuka was good and not too spicy but I thought the stew portion was a bit small. For dessert, we got the lotus rosalach. They were crispy dough rolls with cookie butter spread and sprinkled with powder sugar. The portion was generous and were piping hot! I was a bit disappointed with the Landwer's crimson berry iced tea. It had pomegranate and passion fruit syrup and fresh fruit bits. It sounded good but it was way too sweet. On the plus side. We were able to get a last min reservation easily for lunch and got seated promptly. The hostess was friendly. The food was fine. The service however was the worst I've experienced in a long time. Our waitress seemed to actively ignore our existence and turned the meal into a bad experience. To start, we had to ask her several times to get a high chair. She never introduced herself and just showed up after I don't know how long and rudely asked if we were ready to order. There wasn't a touch of friendliness to be detected. She seemed offended to be serving us. After we ordered, she didn't check in on us once. Waving at her and using a normal voice several failed to garner her attention. I literally had to yell to flag her down to get our bill. Even the pen she brought us for the bill didn't work. Overall it's a fun place to check out, with great food, a calm atmosphere, and a big menu. A great place for dates, catching up with friends, or just taking a self care day. There's definitely something for everyone and they do all meals well (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)! They're great for people with food allergies, and they have a lot of vegan and gluten free options, which is always a bonus! They also typically have a menu with some seasonal dishes or drinks, which adds even more variety to chose from. I personally enjoy the vegan French stir fry, and have had it a few times. It's always consistently good. The hummus bowls are also really good, and everything here is flavored really well. They also do typical cafe things really well, from coffee, tea, and specialty lattes to gorgeous pastries. They have non-dairy milk so a lot of the beverages can be made dairy free, though not all of them. I have come here sometimes just to grab a coffee and go, which you can do without having to be seated at a table. The only con is that the service can be spotty sometimes. You might have to wait a long time between sitting down and ordering or waiting for the check. I think it's that this location can sometimes be short staffed, but it's happened to me at other locations too, so I'm not sure there. It's happened even when the restaurant isn't crowded too. That can make it a bit unpleasant sometimes as I'm not always wanting to sit for an extra 30 min total just waiting for things that could be done a bit more efficiently. read more

I could not find significant fault with my visit. I was seated almost as soon as I walked in; although it was at the small table by the large column. While there, all the employees who came to my table were very friendly. There was signage by the door with a large photo of their Turkish coffee. As I never had it, when my waitress told me it can be stronger than regular coffee, I knew that is what I needed for this day. Unfortunately, she did not mention I needed to stir the coffee before pouring it into the glass. As I was pouring the coffee, I noticed the "sludge" on the bottom. As such, the coffee was not as strong as I required for the remainder of the day. Since this was a Mediterranean restaurant, I was strongly deciding on the shakshuka; it on the waitstaff's shirts. When I saw the pancakes was served with Nutella and maple syrup, I ended up getting that. Fortunately, my waitress warned me about the large size of the pancakes as I was about to opt for the eggs. I could only eat half of the third pancake. Although Vermont borders Massachusetts, the maple syrup was still being rationed; it was served in a small container. Also, the amount of Nutella served in its container may be less than the amount in the retail single-serve containers. Both barely enough to spread on one pancake. I guess each pancake was to have its own topping: maple, Nutella and whipped cream with fruit. read more
