What a FANTASTIC breakfast spot! Came here on a Sunday for breakfast and what a treat! Started off with their fluffernutter latte and their lavender matcha latte. Both were perfect starts and very flavorful. Everything was phenomenal from their regular egg breakfast to their morning madness to their pancakes. I think their breakfast potatoes are real stars too. Perfectly crispy but soft inside. They have plenty of drink options for a boozy brunch as well. We saw everything from dates, to family breakfasts, to girlfriends boozy brunch. This place is cute and clean so it's good for any occasion. Service was fast and friendly. On a clear, sunny day, after visiting the Isabella Museum, I thought I'd find a brunch spot nearby. Shakshuka: The portions were huge, still bubbling hot when it arrived; the meatballs were firm, slightly coarse, and very satisfying; the runny egg was delicate and tempting; the bread had a slightly crispy crust from being pan-fried, while the inside was incredibly soft and delicate, like a cake, perfect for dipping in the sauce. Everything was perfect, except... it was incredibly sour, almost pungent. The sauce was just pure canned tomato flavor, and the pickled peppers were also extremely sour, with a hint of spiciness that made the flavor even more intense. I guess I just couldn't get used to it, as a Chinese; but I'll respect this seasoning, as it's very common in the West. After taking it home, I reheated it with sugar, black pepper, butter, and Parmesan cheese, and mixed with pasta--it instantly felt much smoother and more delicious! I was seating right away, and the server was friendly and attentive. I don't see too many place offering Dutch pancakes. I'm the only one I know that has every made these pancakes, and I can't remember that last time I've had them, so I jumped on it. They didn't disappoint, though I prefer the pancake without the lemon ricotta (I'm a purist, when it comes to some toppings). The coffee was steaming hot, and came in a huge mug. No refill needed. We walked up and despite it being totally packed only had to wait ~20 minutes, which was great! We got the Morning Madness and Lucky Charms pancakes. The madness was great. The eggs were fluffy, the sausage was juicy, and the french toast somehow cut the intensity of a plate of meat. And it felt like a really great deal at $20. The pancakes were buttery and fluffy. The lucky charms didn't come through as much as we hoped, but it was still quite good. It was a tad loud and smelled like smoke in and off, but it didn't end us boring us much. This was our 3rd visit for brunch. We came last year and accidentally walked to the location again this year, only realizing we were at the same place when we recognized the neighborhood. It was a happy accident! On weekends there will likely be a wait for brunch. Service is friendly and efficient. Coffee is served in a really big mug and is piping hot. Breakfast potatoes are crisp and hot and flavorgul. Cholula hot sausce is always on the table. At some point, I will have the lunch or dinner items but I always end up gravitating towards breakfast. Amazing brunch this morning at Milkweed in Mission Hill! It has been years since I had been to this spot but I've been wanting to come back and the timing finally worked out. The space is very popular so there was a wait but there is a great park across the street. We were sat at the chefs counter which is always my favorite! We got to see so many of the dishes prepared and waiting for pickup. Extreme props to the back of house staff who were hauling today and it was great to watch them at work! Service was great and the food was incredible. I had the Shakshuka with meatball served with crusty bread. It was packed with flavor and I literally could've licked the pan clean. We also shared a chocolate chip pancake and my partner had traditional sausage and eggs - all cooked perfectly. A final shout-out to their iced pumpkin coffee, just the right amount and not overpowering with the pumpkin flavor. We will definitely be back, hopefully for dinner sometime soon! read more

Meh. I was excited for this place and it was a bit of a thud. Start with the good: good service, good Americano. I asked for tips between the Cuban and fried chicken sandwiches, and the waiter confidently recommended the chicken. "Great," thought I. No. No, not at all. It wasn't bad, but this was an airport-tier chicken sandwich, overcooked beyond moistness and then half-rescued by a good slaw. Surely fries will save it? Nah. I ordered breakfast for delivery to my Airbnb, even though the restaurant wasn't far from me. Since it was snowing in Boston, I decided to opt for delivery instead. I went with the French toast with bacon and a nice cup of hot chocolate. Unfortunately, the delivery person dropped my food off at the wrong location, despite me being very specific when I placed the order. That wasn't the restaurant's fault, though. When I finally got my food, everything was still hot--especially the hot chocolate, which was a nice touch. The only thing I'd suggest is providing more than one little syrup for the French toast. For the hefty portion I got, at least three would've been ideal. Overall, it was a delicious and enjoyable breakfast. Overall, this is a super cute brunch spot with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to accommodate its large crowd. We were served quickly and efficiently all while being served with friendliness and understanding! I loved the variety of options on the menu ranging from breakfast all the way to dinner (which I definitely intend to come back and compare to their brunch), as well as classic egg scrambles to their unique dutch babies! My only complaint is that menu is pretty pricey, even for Boston, and I felt that the dishes didn't deliver on portion size or flavor in terms of their cost. We were attracted by the pictures posted by many other yelpers, and decided to stop in to give it a try. We were seated right away and after 5 minutes of placing an order, our order came out! I went with the Nutella and strawberry French toast and my brother went with a power bowl. The French toast was soft and had a slight crunch to it, and my brother ended up finishing his entire bowl. It was pretty good. They have good coffee. The cafe is pretty cozy and quaint. You can tell it is a family business. I've come here a 2nd time for a date. Fun warm atmosphere. Very nice staff. Really fun items on the menu--will try out more. The items we landed on didn't really impress. Chorizo Benedict Benedict's come with poached eggs, but these were so overdone they were hard and rubbery. Like they were microwaved for 10 minutes. And the "chipotle" hollandaise was pretty bland. Not sure how they keep their hollandaise warmed throughout breakfast, but they should check the temp to make sure it's not too hot a cooking the egg yolk while it's on the warmer. Chorizo tasted exactly like a lunchables pepperoni. It's definitely not high quality. It's low grade, over cured mystery meat with synthetic nitrates or something fake tasting. Not real chorizo. The chorizo also disappointed the Huevos Rancheros rancheros I got. The ranchero sauce was nice, and black beans with salsa roja wasn't bad. Would've liked fresh pico or more fresh ingredients than the "from the bottle" sauces they threw on top--but it would've been fine had there been a central taste to drive it all home. The chorizo just disappointed the whole dish. For the kid, we got a Side of berry pancake and a side of scrambled eggs (no kids menu but they were very nice to give us just a single pancake instead of the whole 3 stack meal) I think if we went with the other fun menu items and steered clear of the Mexican food I was hoping for when I ordered, i think it would've been a better experience. It's clear that they had something that worked at the original restaurant. And their menu has a bunch of fun creative ideas. Some of the plates I saw come out looked a little too cookie cutter, like they were pre packaged and just microwaved, but I won't judge the other dishes til I try em. I visited Milkweed on a Sunday, or the day of our lord, or whatever it is they call Sundays these days. Eager and hopeful to suckle from a thick stem of swamp milkweed and imbibe its nutrient-rich cardenolides, I was admittedly slightly disappointed to not find such an item anywhere in the bowels of this venue's extensive menu. A group of people including but not limited to myself arrived at Milkweed at a busy hour of the day, and were told that a table would be available after a thirty (30) minute wait. Much to my dismay, this wait was ultimately close to sixty (60) minutes, and my party had to seek refuge in the nearby Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the interim. And there we were reminded, regarding our small and trivial predicament: "But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first." Upon being offered our table in the pleasant space within the restaurant, a server kindly provided attentive service throughout our visit. I sampled a cubano sandwich, chorizo eggs benedict, and some breed of strawberry-chocolate French toast. All of these items were good, and the cubano sandwich was deceptively filling for its average size, perhaps because of the impressively dense nature of its innards. While I would not go out of my way to return to Milkweed, I would happily return if presented with the opportunity. read more

I ordered the Lucky Charms pancakes, but wasn't able to eat them until hours later so my review may be skewed (and the reason why I don't have a photo). I thought they were just OK. The pancakes were great, with Lucky Charms marshmallow cereal pieces on top. The butter provided was incredibly salty. At first I thought it was a cereal-flavored milk anglaise. The only other condiment was syrup, which wasn't enough for the three large pancakes I had. If they had an anglaise option, I'd prefer to try that. Otherwise, they were just pancakes with cereal on top. They were still pretty good, but I was expecting more unique flavors to make the pancakes stand out. read more

Was so excited to try Milkweed since it seems to be a Boston brunch staple, but honestly had a disappointing experience. First, they kicked us off the waitlist when we were about 2 groups away from being seated. (Maybe a text ahead of time from the store to see if we were still interested could've prevented this) but after running in to ask the worker they put us back on. In terms of food, it's about what you'd expect from anything with nutella and strawberries. It's delicious in the first couple bites but over time the toast ended up getting too gooey from all the wet condiments. The iced coffee of the day was actually horrible though. No matter how much sugar or milk we added, it still tasted like water. Don't get the daily coffees (even though they got cute sounding flavors like Caramel Crunch) they don't taste like anything. I've visited a couple times and each time, the food was amazing. First time was on a weekend in the summer and there was a very short wait. Recent weekends have been super busy, may be because school is in session. The Yelp waitlist was over 30 parties and over a hour wait at 12 pm, though you may be able to get a seat faster if you go in person. Once you do get seated, the service is very fast. The setup and decor is nice and makes a great a casual brunch spot. The food is great and portion sizes are very filling. The fruit they use is fresh and not too sweet. My favorite for breakfast is the salmon cakes and I love their corned beef hash. Their iced coffee with flavored shots is mediocre. I personally don't mind it, but I wouldn't recommend it to people that enjoy their coffee sweet and creamy.
