I was recommended Ula Cafe by many friends, so when I visited this weekend my expectations were pretty high. Thankfully, Ula delivered. The complex that Ula is in is super cute, there is typically plenty of parking. It's also right on the orange line, so there is easy access. Ample indoor and outdoor seating made getting a table a breeze. We ordered an iced coffee, iced latte, vegan burrito, and an Amort St sandwich. The Amory was really yummy, my partner enjoyed it. The coffees were pretty run-of-the-mill, nothing to write home about. The flavor in the latte was pretty weak. I added caramel to it as well, but it just tasted like milk; it's nice if the espresso taste or caramel flavor shines through, but it didn't deliver here. Fiore's and Third Cliff are still my go-to's for a good latte. While we waited for the burrito to come out, the chef came and told us he didn't have the necessary ingredients. He offered great replacements and made recommendations. He was super kind and honestly made our experience much better. Give that person a raise! Overall, good experience! Food was really good. Loved this little cafe!! I came here to work and found plenty of tables, chairs, and outlets scattered through the place. I got a coffee and this berry hibiscus scone which was fabulous--soft, fluffy, and not too dry on the inside. I loved the glaze on top. I found this place because i desperately needed a bagel, and googled the nearest random cafe. Basically, i wasnt expecting much. At the first sip, i was genuinely shocked. They definitely dont use shitty coffee, there's no odd flavor like other random cafes i usually stumble upon. Everything in the bagel sandwich is made fresh, it's def not a frozen microwavable sandwich. The place has a very urban aesthetic to it, reminds me a lot of the spots in SF. Tried their seasonal New Orleans iced coffee made with chicory and it was so good. Nice and bitter like you would find at Blue Bottle. The chai scone was more like a biscuit but still very delicious. Over the years and through various management changes, I've continued to recommend Ula to friends, even treating them so they could experience the unique menu, warm atmosphere, and community-minded spirit that made it a standout space. From the thoughtfully crafted drinks to the "sponsor a meal" initiative, Ula has always felt like more than just a café--it's been a place that reflects care, intention, and connection. That's why it's especially hard for me to share this. Recently, I placed an order--eagerly anticipating both the meal and drink I paid for--but the drink never arrived. I reached out, and was told I'd be refunded for the full order. I replied that I'd be happy just to be refunded for what I didn't receive. That refund never came. I followed up multiple times via phone and email, and eventually only received a refund for the delivery fee. To this day, I've still paid for something I never received. When a business accepts payment and does not fulfill that part of the transaction--and then doesn't correct it after being given multiple opportunities--it starts to feel less like a simple mistake and more like a quiet taking. I stopped in here with a friend after a long walk and I'm so glad we went here. We got there not too much before closing, but they were just as friendly and accommodating as if we got there first thing. They have a ton of options, including plenty for vegetarians and vegans. I got the breakfast burrito (as I am seemingly always craving one) and my friend got the caprese. I was tempted by the treats they had in the display case, but we opted just to get our sandwich/burrito. Our food came out quickly and was perfectly made. I really appreciated that the egg in my burrito was bodega-style which made it so much less messy to eat. My friend practically devoured her sandwich; she thought the maple balsamic was so tasty and the veggies and pesto were really fresh. She has food allergies and was really happy with how much they laid out what was and wasn't in the food. They had convenient parking and plenty of outdoor tables. Hidden gem in Jamaica Plain-- definitely worth the trip! I ordered an iced latte with lavender flavoring, a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel, and an earl grey scone. The latte was good, nothing particularly memorable about it. Lavender flavor was pretty subtle. The bacon egg and cheese was great-- the egg was fluffy and the bacon portion was generous. The classic all-around breakfast sandwich! The earl grey scone was incredible! I would come back just for the scone. I was a bit hesitant about the idea of early grey in a scone, but it was a perfect subtle and smooth flavor. The texture and moisture was spot-on as well. My partner and I got a roasted turkey ranch sandwich, curried chicken salad sandwich, coconut mojito scone, and hibiscus berry scone - TASTE: 5/5 - I thought the flavors were on point! I came here with my friend on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm to grab drinks and a bite to eat. I ordered an iced London fog with almond milk and no syrup and a slice of banana bread. My friend ordered an iced latte and the chipotle chicken sandwich. I rarely see iced London fogs on the menu, so I was excited to order one. I was not let down; it was absolutely outstanding. The banana bread was good, too, and my friend said she enjoyed what she ordered. While there is no indoor seating, there are a couple tables outside. Even though we went fairly late in the afternoon, they were almost all taken. The staff here are friendly and helpful when making recommendations or talking about the menu. In the spirit of Juneteenth I looked up black owned businesses for breakfast in JP and found the amantándote beautiful cafe. My friend and I placed the order for pick. We had their burrito and iced coffee. I drove right in the the cafe and it was in a shell labeled "online orders" so I zipped in and out. The breakfast burrito was delicious, hand down one of the best I've had. The burrito included pico de Gallo, cheese, smashed avo and I ordered bacon as a topping. Can't recommend this place enough! When I think of JP, I think of Ula. Ula is Black-owned, woman-owned, and veteran-owned. They use organic and sustainable coffee and compostable packaging. Their walls are covered in artwork from the community, and the shelves are lined with books about diversity. I love their pay-it-forward system and I love their commitment to inclusivity. I always order an iced vanilla latte from here. This is one of the few coffee shops where you can order a large coffee and actually get your money's worth. I've tried a handful of their sandwiches, and the B is my favorite. The place is constantly busy, but I've never had a hard time finding a seat. They've even got a free parking lot! It's a great place to sit down and work, or to grab a coffee and go. If you're coming on foot, you'll probably have to traverse through a couple of lots until you find Ula, but it's worth the trip. read more

The drinks are a little watery for my liking, especially the chai latte. The quality and flavor of the food makes up for the lacking drinks. Ula is a good, solid café. There are many things to love about this place. Staff is great and helpful, people are inclusive, food donation board to provide for community members, cool local art on the walls. The whole place is very JP, which is wonderful. I also appreciate the reliable wifi. In my experience, though, the made-to-order food hasn't been great. The last time I ordered a curried chicken sandwich, it had barely anything between the bread, and was very dry. For the price (I think 11 or 12 dollars) it wasn't really what I'd expect. I've had the same experience with the breakfast sandwiches (dry, with gummy bagels). I've taken to ordering all of my drinks unsweetened, as the default amount of sugar syrup is off the charts. I wish that it was more moderate... it overpowers everything else. Not everyone wants a matcha or black tea latté to be a dessert! If you are in any sort of rush, I'd recommend ordering ahead online. The wait can be long. They have a convenient little pickup shelf, and you can always bring your food to a table if you want. I'll keep coming, and keep ordering food and giving it a chance, because I genuinely do love this place and what it stands for. read more

Cons: Whenever you order something additional to a sandwich for an extra cost, they will not actually put it on the sandwich. This has happened multiple times. So, please check your sandwich before you bring it home. Additionally, if you tell them that these things are missing and ask for it, they will not be too happy. And their sandwiches are just okay. It does take a while to get your food, but it's made fresh. Pros: They have the best matcha in the area. It is a 10/10. The lemonade is also great. I love their "pay it forward", you can pay for a drink, sandwich, pastry, etc and they post it on the wall so someone else can get it for free. Though I'd love this to be my neighbourhood cafe, it used to be much better. It is difficult to see the tables in the back when you place your order so when asked if you're eating in or taking out, it's hard to answer because you don't know if you'll find a place to sit. Outside area is in glaring sun. Staff is not pleasant, sometimes downright gruff. There is a man who announces when your order is ready who barks out your name so loudly it makes people jump. Stopped by here Monday. Was on bike ride from Franklin Park to Arboretum to Southwest Corridor to Ula/ Bikes not Bombs (next door). Bike shop closed on Mondays but well worth my slight detour. Ula was great. Got a grain bowl with turkey, kale, bacon, and avocado. Plenty of everything. Very good. Filling. Affordable. Takeout back to a park bench on SW corridor. I was recommended this cafe by a good friend who used to live in Boston, and I was immediately impressed! Not only is it a great vibe for conversation or working on a laptop, but I came at the right time. I was walking and realized I needed to take cover from a sudden storm. The sky was green and the wind was suddenly fierce. Some staff ran outside as I was coming in, so I helped hold the door and stack a couple of chairs. They offered me a baked item for my trouble, and they did all the hard work. So kind! I will definitely come back again while I'm still in town. read more

This is SUCH a great local and inclusive cafe. They have cold brew on tap, lots of sandwich and salad options, great scones and a cute outdoor seating area. Their menu rotates seasonally, but I really hope they bring back my favorite salad/ sandwich of all time with sweet potato, apple, caramelized onion and Gouda!
