Oh, it's gorgeous. They don't mix it in advance, so every sip is a swirl from brown to creamy white. On a holiday (Juneteenth), I even biked over to grab the breakfast taco for my coworkers who had to be at work for a bit, and they raved about it too. It's always buzzing, especially on weekends, but now that it's good weather out, they recently added outdoor seating. What a fun, local, charming coffee spot, and honestly, I think it's the best one in Brighton.

I'm writing this review from the cafe right now and can hear the jazz piano playing softly in the background, plenty of people with laptops, wifi, comfy seating, and an atmosphere that is perfect for working all day, reading a book, catching up with a friend, or bringing some artwork to work on. I wish I lived closer because I could see myself parking here for hours. The food is largely Vietnamese-inspired, and I appreciate that there are quite a few options. The spring rolls have good vegetarian choices, including mushroom and tofu, and the bánh mì selection is surprisingly broad: chicken, pork, beef, classic, even smoked salmon. This time I got the $9.99 special with a half classic bánh mì and an iced latte with oat milk. The latte was probably the weakest thing I've had here; it was quite light in color and tasted a little watery. BUT (!!!), I was oddly impressed by the bánh mì. It wasn't overflowing with meat or toppings, but for $9.99, especially these days, I wasn't expecting something enormous. What they nailed was the bread. It was wonderfully warm, light, crisp, and crunchy in exactly the way good bánh mì bread should be. The pâté spread also really hit the spot. They also serve boba. On a previous visit I got an avocado shake with boba, which was really nice on a hot summer day. More than anything, though, I like this place because it feels like somewhere you can actually linger. I see lots of people working on laptops here, and it has that increasingly rare café feeling where you want to sit down and stay. (And not be shooed out.) Cafe Lava and Bento is definitely a place I'd come back to, especially for the atmosphere and that delicious bánh mì bread.

What finally drew me in was the sign advertising Thai tea and Vietnamese iced coffee. If I'm Popeye, Vietnamese iced coffee is my can of spinach. (Narrator: she is not Popeye.) Viet iced coffee is my jet fuel for the bike rides. I stepped in and asked if they took credit card, which they did! I never carry cash, so when the Google AI overview told me they were cash only, I was bummed. Anyway, trust but verify. The AI Overview can't be taken at face value, Today was an unbearably hot day (100F!), and I ordered a veggie omelet and an iced coffee. The staff immediately brought me ice water and even suggested I move closer to the window where it was cooler, which I really appreciated: it was a small gesture, but one that made me feel genuinely welcome. They were attentive throughout the meal too, even asking whether I wanted hot sauce and then checking if Cholula was okay instead of just dropping off whatever they had. The food was exactly what I was hoping for: a solid, satisfying diner breakfast. The veggie omelet was tasty, the home fries were good (maybe could be crispier on the outside, but they were gonna be murdered in Cholula anyway, so does it even matter?), and the toast was great even without butter. The iced coffee wasn't the most memorable coffee I've ever had, but it absolutely hit the spot during the heat wave. One thing that surprised me was how spacious it is inside. From the outside, I never would have guessed there was so much seating, and it had a quiet, relaxed atmosphere that made it easy to linger for a while. I also noticed several people coming in specifically for the Thai tea and Vietnamese iced coffee, so I'm clearly not the only fan. I'll definitely be back, especially when I need some more jet fuel. Cafe Mirror may not shout for your attention from the street, but it's a welcoming neighborhood cafe with kind people, good food, and exactly the kind of low-key charm that makes me want to support local businesses.

The barista, and it was their first day, came and checked on me at least twice to make sure that my drink was good. The ambiance is also really nice. They have seating inside and outside. And special shout out to the fact that apart from the straw, it was all reusable cutlery - what luxury to have your beverage in a glass cup! Looking forward to trying them out again.
