Think of it as a neighborhood haunt with a sports bar that dominates half of the restaurant. Alas, my family was looking for a warm place to enjoy a comfort food kind of meal. So we all got the early bird special with came with an app, an entree and a dessert all for 32$ which wasn't bad at all. I chose the lobster salad roll for my app, and the chicken Milanese with a rice side and the rainbow cake for dessert. The portions were the best part of our dining experience, as we all left stuffed and wowed by how affordable the meal was. Each plate was tasty and prepared well and the service was also very friendly,

Walking in there is a newness to the bar and adjacent dining areas as they renovated somewhat recently. We were able to be seated right away on a Saturday night for dinner and sat in the bar dining room. Beer is served cold and their cocktails are nicely made. We went for the shell steaks with a salad added on. The salad arrived first and was a fairly large portion. Fresh and tasty. The steaks arrived looking good. My steak was actually perfectly cooked, it was just on the bland side. I don't know why they don't season their steaks much, if at all. Fries were not really hot and the shoe string fries, were different than the fries they used to have. Well cooked veggies were also served along with the steak. It would have been 4 stars if things were season properly. Service is still on the slow side, so a quick meal typically isn't possible. All in all Austin's Ale House is a neighborhood staple, that could really be wonderfully with some more attention to flavors.

I ordered the short ribs and the five-onion soup again, and both were excellent. The service was spot-on and impressively quick--my food arrived in under 15 minutes. The owner is also really cool; he personally greets guests and makes a point of chatting with the performers to ensure they're comfortable. This is a wonderfully romantic spot. The beautiful flowers add such a nice touch (as I mentioned in my previous review). While it's not fully upscale, it has an elevated, sophisticated vibe that makes you want to dress up for the occasion. Highly recommended!

Well, at least business was "Blooming" due to Mother's Day reservations…read more All jokes aside, I visited this restaurant yesterday for a Mother's Day brunch with a group of eight others. Our reservation had been confirmed the day before by both our host and the restaurant. When I arrived early, I was surprised to find the place jam-packed and clearly overcrowded. The front-of-house staff, along with the presumed owner, seemed overwhelmed and initially could not locate our 12:00 reservation. There were also guests with 11:30 and later reservations that were still waiting to be seated, along with several other groups scheduled around our time. After waiting nearly 50 minutes, talking with others who were also waiting, and watching two other tables be hastily set up and filled, we were finally seated. The table had been quickly wiped down and set with placemats, but it was missing silverware and several glasses. Most of this was resolved fairly quickly, though two people still never received glasses, with one person asking a few times for one. Our clearly overworked waitress brought us water and eventually took our order after a shorter additional wait. I ordered a $6 cappuccino, which was enjoyable, with a moderate amount of foam and a pleasantly bitter flavor without tasting over-roasted. However, another person's $4.50 iced coffee did not seem worth the price, as it appeared to be no more than a 12-ounce glass and was mostly filled with ice. Outside of coffee, the staff was understandably slow with water, with long waits, and we finally got a pitcher near the end of the meal. For my meal, I chose the $16 Poached Browns, which included two poached eggs, pulled pork, an English muffin, hollandaise sauce, and their Bloom hash. Many minutes later, and I mean many, the eggs were properly poached and were the highlight of the dish. The pulled pork, served without any additional sauce, was dry, and the small amount of hollandaise did little to help. The hash on the side lacked crispiness and vegetables, aside from what might have been a tiny piece of chopped yellow pepper. Overall, it was below average but passable. Two others ordered the Make Your Own Omelette for $19, which comes with a choice of three ingredients, the same hash, and bacon. They made two specific requests, both of which our waitress confirmed: first, that they did not want bacon, and second, that they could substitute fries for the hash--regular fries for one person and sweet potato fries for the other. Despite this, both plates arrived with bacon, as you can see in my first photo, where one of them transferred her bacon to my plate. The other person sent her plate back and ended up receiving her Mother's Day meal well after everyone else. The omelette also looked a bit more like a frittata, which I didn't mind. After waiting a while, including finally getting pitchers of water, we finally left after a long and annoying bunch. If this spot indeed had reservation issues, why on earth were they still allowing walk-ins? Why did they tell people it would take 15-20 minutes to seat when it would clearly take 30+? This entire experience was inept from beginning to end. The food this time is closer to a 2, but our experience as a whole was closer to a 1. I would never go back.

A lot of people complain about the wait time being too long, but don't realize that long wait times are bound to happen when restaurants get discovered on social media and grow in popularity. You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu, but the lobster rolls, seasoned fries, buffalo chicken rolls, and chicken & waffles are all top-tier for me. I'm trying to figure out why there is more hate on this place than there should be, and I'm coming…read moreup blank here. Cobblestones is an absolute treasure in the Kew Gardens/Forest Hills area and should be treated as such. I came here years ago back when Solid State Band used to play here regularly, so it had been a minute since my last visit (nearly 15 years). A friend of mine was on jury duty at the courthouse and I agreed to meet her here for Happy Hour before the Knicks game. What an amazing job they have done to put together a beer garden that perfectly blends the feel of an urban landscape and the charm of Bavaria. The picnic style tables might be small and closely packed together, but from the moment I walked in, I felt transported to another part of the world. Excellent specials during happy hour which runs 3-7 Monday to Friday - all drafts $7 for a half liter (that's 16.9 ounces for the non-metric folk) and their selections are perfectly acceptable for a beer garden. I recommend the Reissdorf Kolsch, the Radeberger Pilsner, and the Schofferhoffer (a grapefruit low-alcohol beer perfect for summer). They also offer several wines for $7 during HH, and half priced wings (they are very clear that it is for dine-in only so you cannot take your leftovers). Cobblestones also has 1-liter beer options as I saw a few people walking around with giant glass boots filled with beer, and lots of people were ordering food. We simply opted for waffle fries and they were hot, seasoned, and came in a decent sized portion. The staff here were the true highlight of the experience. Although our server did not tell us her name at any point, she was attentive, suggestive in salesmanship, always around, friendly, and fast. Lots of worker-bee types here ensuring the guests are well cared for - diverse and smiling, just the way Queens should be. By 6PM there was a line out the door to get a table for the Knicks/Spurs finals game, so this seems to be a popular place to watch events with friends - I recommend getting your table two hours in advance of whatever you plan to watch here! There are plenty of large screens outside in the beer garden (half of the tables are covered with an awning). Many guests brought their board games and playing cards, and I saw a giant wheel at the end of the bar, which means I will be coming back to experience whatever Spin-The-Wheel chaos they provide at Cobblestones. I'm already planning a return visit with friends, you should do the same. Their food menu looks good, the staff is amazing, the vibes are top notch. Well done, Cobblestones!

There's usually a line of some length during peak hours and especially around the holidays. You can tell by the sheer volume of baked goods and cakes available in their window displays that they sell a lot daily. This location is on the main drag of the little downtown section of Forest Hills, the baked goods in the front window display connect to a tall and long glass counter along the left side of the store that extends almost to the back. At the back middle and along the right side of the wall there's seating for about two dozen people at small cafe tables. They carry an assortment of traditional cakes (full and sliced), pies, cookies, pastries, cheesecakes, cupcakes, ice cream and coffee/tea drinks. A wide variety of flavors in each, so you're bound to find something sweet to satisfy most here. They are a classic bakery so from what I can tell, they don't carry items that are gluten, dairy or nut free. I've purchased their apple pie, fruit tart, berry napoleon, red velvet and chocolate fudge cakes from this or other locations in the past and they're all solid choices for desserts to share with a larger group, though I find a lot of their cake options to be on the richer side. My most recent encounter with their cakes came in the form of a slice of their seven layer cake $9.95 which is thin layers of yellow cake alternating with chocolate cream mmm pretty tasty, and their caramel cake $9.95 which had a layer of chocolate cake in the middle, sandwiched by caramel cream and white cake on either side. The latter had a pronounced caramel flavor that was enjoyable though a bit too much cream for me. My preference would be for their chocolate cakes over other cake flavors here. Their apple pie is one of my favorite apple pies anywhere tho!

It's absolutely amazing, and the filling is very generous--it feels like heaven in every bite. Another favorite of mine is the chocolate layer cake: rich, velvety smooth chocolate that isn't overly sweet. The only thing I don't agree with is that they do not clearly tell customers that dining in adds an extra $1 charge to each item. Yes, check your receipt. I'm expected to tip my waitstaff and also pay an extra dollar per item just because I chose to dine in. For example, the cupcake is usually $4.75 to go, but they charged me an extra $1 for dining in. Their cake slices are usually $9.50 to go, but I was charged $10.50. I also tipped 20%, so the added charge felt frustrating, especially since there was no clear notice. When I asked the waitstaff about the $1 charge, she said it was entered that way because I dined in. When I later called about it, the manager simply said, "Next time, just order to go if you don't want to be charged extra." That response was disappointing, especially since there was no visible sign explaining this policy, and their dine-in menu does not show separate pricing. I really think management should fix this to avoid misleading customers. Transparency matters. Don't get me wrong--I would still come back because their cakes are amazing, but from now on, I'll always order everything to go.
