Master Panda, thanks for participating in the Yelp Lunar New year Boba Crawl and being the first and last stop. The jasmine milk tea I sampled in the store first was a bit high in the milk to tea ratio, though I appreciated the chance to try this. The oolong tea flavor (can't recall if it was a citrus or passionfruit flavor) at the end was good--refreshing and light. The bubbles were a little on the sweeter side, with decent chewiness. I purchased a plum Americano first time and it was an innovative take on Asian flavors mixed with coffee. The fusion of traditional tart plum "soup" with coffee worked in an herbally way, kinda like a kombucha coffee. Based on this I think some of the other coffee items with citrus may be good to try here. The following comments are in the spirit of constructive feedback so I hope this will help you guys! I read online that the focus of the store is to provide fresh milk with their teas, specifically regular dairy milk. Though I think this is a stronger selling point probably in Asia, the interesting fact is that a fair number of people are lactose intolerant, (or will become so later in life). And with the trend away from cow's milk to more plant-based milks, I think it's a miss not to offer milk substitutes. The second point to work on is consistency in the menu, I'm not sure why the menu placed by the ordering counter contains a few different items than the menu on the screen on the wall, which is also slightly different from the menu shown in the digital kiosks (I didn't order from the kiosk but took a look at it). Maybe it's because this store is still tweaking the menu, though in this case it would be helpful to explain to customers. Yesterday I came by to redeem a coupon for a free drink, it was a generous offer and thanks for giving me another opportunity to try a drink! Choosing the Jasmine coconut tea with water chestnut bubbles, the flavor combo sounded interesting though didn't mesh that successfully in reality. The water chestnut bubbles provided a pop and little crunch which was unlike anything I've had before, with a light, almost imperceptible sweetness. I first came to Master Panda as part of a Yelp boba crawl event where I was able to sample the jasmine oolong tea and the peach oolong tea. Out of the two, I preferred the peach oolong tea. I came back to get another one of their drinks that stood out from their menu. They had a seasonal special chestnut series and I got the chestnut rice milk mochi drink that was delicious. There was fresh chestnut puree around the cup and a big scoop of mochi that made the drink more fun. I also added their cheese foam on top and it was the perfect sweet and savory combination. I also got their taro rice milk mochi and it was just as yummy but less sweet (although you can adjust the sweetness level so if you prefer more sweet, I'd probably recommend higher for this one). Both the chestnut and taro purees tasted fresh! Make sure to mix well to get a sip of both the puree and mochi. Ordering is really easy whether you want to order from the cashier or from their kiosk right next to the cashier. Inside is well decorated and also fairly spacious with a few seats but when I came, there was no one here so it could be a nice place to enjoy your drink with some friends! This was a boba shop that I hadn't heard of before and I'm glad it's on my radar now cause their drinks were goood, particularly the mochi drinks which I haven't seen many places offer. Got a free voucher from Yelp to enjoy any medium sized beverage. The chestnut series was tempting but decided to go with fragrant jasmine milk tea. The barista adjusted it no whipped cream, less ice and 50% sugar. The boba wasn't as soft as I thought it was going to be. It was kind of hard in my opinion. Came to Master Panda on Valentine's Day and was surprised by a rose. Super cute! I had some time and was in search for a late morning spot with a friend. The place is spacious and I love the giant chairs they have. Sadly the baos were unavailable at the time. We ordered our drink with "adventurous" add-ins. I got a milk tea latte with pumpkin puree and my friend had mochi rice for hers. I think my drink probably needed to be creamier to balance out the pumpkin puree. It didn't elevate the experience. My friend and I came here on 3/8 because it was BOGO. I ordered the jasmine tea and she ordered Osmanthus. TBH, the location is so far from the station. This is a very cute, clean and spacious cafe, close to the 7 train Jackson/Vernon stop or a 15 minute walk from Court Square subways. Great place to meet up with friend(s) and sip some tea. The girl at the counter is very nice and friendly. You can order at the kiosk or at the counter. They will let you know when your order is ready. They seem to have a lot of UberEats delivery orders, but if you're not in a rush, you can lounge in the cafe on one of those comfy chairs while having your drink. They have a variety of milk teas, fruit teas and slushies. I tried a few drinks. My fav one is the Grape Fusion Supreme with real grapes in it. It is also a popular drink. Another one that I liked was the Jasmine Passion Mango with passion fruit in it. There are other drinks with rice mochi in it, but I didn't like the rice mochi, even though they had high reviews. It's like a dessert in the drink. It's a big soft chunk vs in ball shape form. Don't think I've had this kind of mochi before. All hail Master Panda! I have reservations about the branding. It screams early 2000's generic cash grab. But it's everything but that. I swear it looks like if Chuck E. Cheese decided to sell boba to kids. Master Panda, please redesign your brand! Anywho, on a landscape with no shortage of bubble tea options, I try to sift out the items that make them standout from their competitors. HeyTea has higher quality ingredients, Jooy has experimental flavors, and Master Panda has both of those. Master Panda has a wide range of items that are executed well. I'm not saying they're top tier but everything is at least above average. One item in particular to me is extraordinarily done well-- The Milky Limeade. As a person with citrus running through their blood, this fills an emptiness in me that I usually seek through sex. I'm also not in the mood for milk teas all that often, so when my gf and co are craving bubble tea, I finally have an option to choose from. AND they have coffees. I haven't tried them yet but what's interesting is they have a lime coffee and a coke zero coffee-- just things you'll never see in any other bob shops, much less anywhere else. New to me was the Grape Fusion Supreme. It was refreshing, with grape chunks and very little grape seeds - so much better than a grape smoothie I had from another place (didn't like the blended seeds in that one.) Taro puree can be an addtl topping so instead of getting a taro drink, I just added it for $1.50. Tiramisu was light, good dessert at $5.50. The Pork baos were dry, maybe the bread and meatball were too dense, not juicy. The Joyful Treat Bowl has a base- I picked rice mochi; 5 Toppings from the drink toppings menu (with boba, chestnut boba, crushed fig, cheese foam and extra mochi), thought there were fruit options but none; sauce - got matcha. There's a ton of tea shops that opened up in LIC and Master Panda is one of the many. This shop in particular is more boutique compared to the brand name chains. The Milk Tea itself were good, but can get pricy. The add ons and substitutions will make the drinks expensive, such as substituting the milk or adding a panda marshmallow to the drink. They have a membership program (not sure how it works), which the drinks are more reasonably priced. They also run a lot of promotions on their IG so make sure to check that out if you're looking for a reason to pull the trigger to try their drinks. read more

I fell head over heels for this spot - the high quality branding, the cute pandas everywhere, the modern but classy store aesthetic, the sweet but not overwhelming drinks - this place is the whole package! Definitely more on the tea and lemon side of flavors but this place is unique amongst boba shops. I recommend their treasure lemon black tea with crystal boba. The bag they gave is also really high quality and had a drink tray inside which really shows that they thought about the brand and usability from beginning to end. A prime example of a business that looks cute/good but lacks in everything else. On my first visit, I noticed a sign that was promoting a combo deal. Not only does that bao look unappetizing, but the price tag for what they're offering is ridiculous. As I walked inside, the place was empty, which is surprising on a late Friday afternoon. I ignored the ordering machines and places my order with one of the staff members. Their English was poor but I didn't care about that. They were making the effort to try. However, they did not know what "milk powder" or "lactaid" was. They asked their team member for further assistance. They also spoke limited English. At that point, I gave in and asked if they wanted me to speak Cantonese. I knew they spoke Mandarin but my Mandarin is limited and their eyes widened as they sighed with relief that we were able to communicate on some level. They took my order and I watched them make it. The first staff member began to make my order but messed up and poured it out. No worries, it happens. As I waited, I noticed a sign that showed my drink that I ordered at a much lower price. I waited for my drink to be ready before I asked them why it was $4 when I paid $8.99 per my receipt. They were unable to answer me and had to grab yet ANOTHER staff member. The manager (probably) was able to speak English much better and told me it was for Members-only pricing. I asked them why was it not dictated on the sign of how to be a member. They told me I can only be a member by ordering through the machine. In the end, they gave me a refund and I resubmitted my order on the ordering machine. I won't be going back. The staff was not well trained or well communicative, and they cannot make a simple black milk tea well. Love the texture of fresh fluffy cream with crispy pecans popping in from time to time. Tea base has a good catch of the fragrance of the tea, neither too light nor too strong. It looks like it would be family friendly with cute pandas decorated throughout but it's not. I went with my toddler on Wednesday afternoon and the woman that served us had a terrible attitude. My toddler accidentally took one of the panda clips off the wall and the woman ran over and snatched it out of her hand to put back on. Then my toddler had to use the bathroom so I asked if we could use theirs and she refused us. To add to the negative experience, the drinks also were bad. I ordered a strawberry milky mochi drink that tasted like plain milk. For the price, I could've bought a gallon of milk at the grocery store. I also ordered a green tea drink that tasted bitter. This place was really cute and aesthetic, but the drinks aren't amazing. The price is a bit high for some of them, and can get up to $8. We had a grapefruit Americano (?), which consisted of coffee, grapefruit, and tonic. That one was okay, but not amazing. They had a promotion where that one was only a dollar, so we figured there was no harm in trying it. We also got a jasmine milk tea with boba, which didn't have a strong tea taste--more like just milk and some sugar with mediocre boba. Lastly, we had the matcha mochi drink, and this one was my fav by far, but it's also the one that costs about $8. I liked that it tasted like matcha (not just sugar and milk), and the rice mochi was an interesting addition that I ended up really liking. I think the rice mochi might not be for everyone, but if I were to go back, that's the drink I would get again. One thing that is nice about this place is that they have ordering machines so you can scroll through all of the drinks instead of flailing trying to figure out your order at the front (helpful, especially for introverts!). Anyway, overall, I think this place is pretty average, but if you live right nearby and can't be bothered to go to any of the other boba places in the vicinity, I think this is passable. That being said, I think I like Teazzi, Chun Yang, and HeyTea (a bit further) much better than Master Panda, and would rather make the trek out to one of those.
