The tea was Harney & Sons, but neither the London Fog nor the Earl Grey tasted like much of anything. The London Fog had lost the fog, and the Earl Grey had misplaced the Earl. The food was equally underwhelming: three tiny Pepperidge Farm-adjacent cookies, two scones with Smucker's jam, and a selection of sandwiches that were perfectly forgettable. The price was offensive, and nothing was memorable either. For a place that trades heavily on atmosphere, I wanted the food and tea to feel special. Instead, it felt like tea service designed by and for people who think black pepper is adventurous. If you're looking for a lovely room to sit in and pretend you're a Dickens character waiting for a letter that never arrives, you'll probably enjoy it. The voucher can be redeemed immediately; valid Saturday-Sunday from 12-5 p.m and reservations are required; subject to availability. To make a reservation, I needed to text 917-783-9714 or email hello@teawiththeduchesnyc.com as stated on the voucher. About a week before the day I wanted to make reservations for, I followed the instructions and texted and e-mailed but I didn't hear back from the text and the e-mail came back as undeliverable. I e-mailed and submitted a form on their website as well and sent a DM through instagram. As the days went by, I still didn't hear back. I decided to call 917-783-9714 and that got me in touch with someone. I told her about all the steps I was trying to do to make a reservation since I had the voucher and she was like you can make a reservation through OpenTable. I was thankful that someone answered the phone, but I wished the instructions were more clear and the person could have been more apologetic for all the trouble I went through. The day arrived for our reservation and the entrance for Tea with the Duchess at 531 2nd Ave New York, NY 10016 was not clearly marked. My friend and I walked up these stairs next to an Irish Whiskey Bar and it was the right place. We got seated and the first thing we did was choose our pot of tea. I went for the lavender earl grey and the staff member bought over a timer to let us know when the tea would be ready. Then, the triple-tier with scones, jams and creams, tea sandwiches, and sweet bites was brought to our table. We also each got a glass of champagne. It was a nice experience, but the small bites were pretty standard. I really liked the decor, vibes, seating, and Bridgerton style music. Staff were very friendly and attentive. They checked in a few times during our visit and asked if we wanted more water added to our teapots. When we were ready to head out, I gave the staff my Travelzoo USA voucher and asked for the check and she brought it over with the tax and gratuity. While we were there, a few other groups came in as well. Though there was the confusion with how to make a reservation, I'm glad I got to experience Afternoon tea at Tea with the Duchess. I had a great time catching up with my friend and thankful for the adventure.
