If you want impeccable food and service this is a great venue. One is one of the world's best French chefs. You may have seen him on 'Billions' and 'The Bear' as well as 'Parts Unknown' and 'No Reservations'. He trained chefs like Alex Lee and Jacques Torres. Anyhow, I ordered the Fruit de Mer & Risotto. It was delicious. It had Spanish Octopus, Tiger Prawn, Scallop, Saffron Risotto, Baby Fennel salad with smoked paprika oil. ($58). My wife had the 50 for 50 Power lunch. A prix fixe 2 course lunch menu. Choosing a Veloute de Pomme de Terra (Potato & Leek soup with a Parmesan foam, charred leek puree and shoestring potato) and her main was a Croque Monsieur (sandwich of Jambon de Paris, Comte Cheese, sourdough bread and mixed greens. I ended getting the second half of her sandwich and it had about 3/4 in. Of ham. We left very full. We also had dessert. And it was so very original and delicious. read more

The place is located at the Four Seasons hotel on the second floor, bar is on the first floor. Lots of space and seatings with booths. We went here for brunch and some drinks. The prices are on the pricier side, got a french toast which was really good. Had a full amount of berries on top, it was really delicious. It got soggy in the middle but not bad. My friend got the Thai salad which I couldn't try since it was too spicy for me. We also got the beef tartare which I wasn't too fond of, tasted too raw and not the usual tartare I usually eat. We also got some mimosas and Bloody Caesar as well. I asked for less spicy on the caesar which came out to be very spicy to be honest. My friend said it's the normal spice. Our server saw my face and immediately made another one, left the rest with us. Overall i would come here again and maybe try their dinner next time. Was seated promptly and server took the time to confirm the dietary restrictions as I had called about the menu. Opted for the 6 course tasting menu. Every dish was presented well and tasted great. This place took me by surprise! I had very low expectations, since it was a restaurant located within a hotel. It's located on the second floor of the four season hotel in the north east corner of Bay and Avenue. You can take the elevator or walk up a short flight of stairs. You will be greet by the host near the entrance; who will help you find your reservation and offer to take your coat. The service was spectacular from the start of your experience, until they bid you farewell. The food was phenomenal as well, we had the three course rotisserie chicken set coast meal ($65/ person). For appetizers, it came with a mushroom soup (9/10). For the main, it came with a whole chicken between two people! It was cooked until perfection - the meat was so juicy I thought the chicken was poached! The main course is served with roasted garden veggies and serving of salad (10/10). Spectacular in every way! If you live for food and wine, you must try Cafe Boulud. The chef's tasting menu would be my recommendation. Be adventurous!! Went for the valentine's day dinner, It cost $285 per person, however i didn't find that the food was worth it? Very long, inconsistent wait time between dishes (30-40 min wait for one of them) and most of the dishes have either been put in a microwave or under a heating lamp. The lobster was tough and chewy (likely from the microwave?) The plate was piping hot.. we were also offered champagne but was not advised that it wasn't complimentary, so that was a surprise when i see that there's an extra $200 charge on our bill. Service was friendly, but there were way too many different people bringing our dishes to our table. It was a busy night and one of the waiters accidentally gave us someone else's course, so they took it out of our table and gave it to the couple.. Not what you'd expect from a high end restaurant charging these exorbitant prices. Some of the waiters also didn't really take note of the ambiance of the environment. Some were very loud with thick accents and I could barely understand what he was saying. He would point and touch at the menu on the other side of our table, and explain the dish but he would be pointing to the wrong dish. I visited Cafe Boulud over the holiday season and it definitely met my expectations! It was my first time here and because we were a larger group, we chose from a set menu which included an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The items in the set menu were also available on the regular menu. House bread - So delicious and came with salted butter Oysters - Came in a half dozen, paired with the usual accompaniments including lemon, cocktail sauce, mignonette, and horseradish. They were fresh and not fishy at all Striploin - This was absolutely divine and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Served with mushrooms that were so delicious I couldn't decide whether I enjoyed the steak more or the mushrooms! Lobster - Sadly it was the tiniest piece of lobster and they served the claw (and not the tail)! Not much lobster meat at all so I would not recommend this dish. The accompanying jasmine rice was also very hard and overcooked Caramel dessert - A pleasant surprise, it tasted like ferrero rocher and included a little show (the waiter pours chocolate sauce all over the plate) Chocolate whiskey dessert - The chocolates themselves were nothing outstanding but the most memorable part was the brownie and whiskey ice cream Ambience was great and service was attentive. I noticed Cafe Boulud had a festive brunch promotion and so we made a reservation specifically for this event/meal. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed. There was a 2 hour seating limit which was surprising as the restaurant was not full but we agreed it would be enough time. There were families with children, groups of friends, and couples. There was definitely a holiday buzz in the atmosphere. After ordering an appetizer and a main from the menu, we started a round at the seafood bar. Fresh oysters, shrimp, crab legs, and mussels were displayed on ice. A server was present to serve your order with sauces of your choosing. This was the most civilized buffet I've ever seen. You were reminded you could return multiple times but the idea was to take enough and not be overly greedy or wasteful. For my appetizer, I had the tuna tartare. I thought it was amazing. My main was a braised short rib (if I remember correctly) and mushrooms on toasted sourdough. Again, delicious. Let's not forget there was a waffle station (with a dedicated server) and plenty of fresh fruits. I didn't think I could eat an entire waffle so I asked for a quarter. It was so light and fluffy! Drizzle some raspberry coulis or maple syrup on top? How about a nice plop of whipped cream? Choose your own adventure! To end off our meal, the dessert table was set up on one end of the bar. My friend and I read great reviews of this place, so we were very excited to experience everything it has to offer! Our visit was on a Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m.- my friend made a reservation in advance and I'm glad that he did! It was a very busy evening, and the place was full. Our waiter was a young man who showed us our seat and explained briefly about the menu. Then he brought out water and left, so that we could look over the menu. The price is steep here- the appetizers start at 25 dollars, the mains start at 40 dollars, and the desserts start at 19 dollars. However, the quality of the ingredients and creative presentation of dishes make up for the price! For the appetizer, my friend ordered Squash/Apple (soup) and I ordered Lobster/Bagna Cauda (pasta). For the main dish, my friend ordered Giguère chicken/Truffle (stuffed chicken with vegetables) and I ordered Scallop/Squash. For drinks, we ordered the same one- non-alcoholic fruity drink. The drink was lightly sweet and delicious, it tasted like a sparking fruity drink. The appetizer, Lobster/Bagna Cauda, was delicious! The pasta was cooked just right and the right amount of chew. Came here for a work dinner on a Tuesday night of the recommendation from a coworker. Restaurant was situated inside the four seasons hotel and was decorated immaculately. Our service was prompt but that wasn't difficult given there weren't that many tables. The bread came out nice and hot; perfect way to kick off the dinner. We shared a hamachi and a burrata. Both came out perfect. The hamachi was nice and light with a drop of citrus finish. The burrata and the jamon were a perfect combo. The saltiness from the jamon cut directly through the richness of the burrata. The entrees we got were the lobster, the lamb rack, and the beef duo. All the protein were cooked immaculately and flavor was good. The beef jus really helped elevate the dish but was a little odd with the eggplant purée. Might need a better delivery mechanism. Overall we had a really good meal but the portion size were a bit small for the price. I guess given the hotel and the name of Cafe Boulud it can always command customers. Been here twice with friends, and everyone only had good impressions of Cafe Boulud....now that's rare. The service was impeccable, and on point. Very professional with right timing. And I love how the tables are not cramped together unlike many other restaurants. The food. Wow. Don't ask me which is my favourite dish, because that's an impossible question to answer, because I adore all the ones that I tried. Seriously, the presentations are so pretty, the colours, and the tastes. Superb! For example: Grilled octopus - the meat was cooked beautifully with not an iota of chewiness. Alberta lamb - the most tender cut of lamb I have ever eaten. Every bite was sheer bliss!! Wild Shrimp - the neutral taste of the shrimp was enhanced by the tangy taste of the cabbage beneath, and at the same time, the sweetness from the peach that teases the palette at the same time. Scallops - I literally told my friends I wasn't sharing lol. The grapefruit dessert is out of this world. You have to try it. And I don't usually like grapefruit! I've always wanted to try Cafe Boulud and I can finally say that I did and I love it. We were immediately brought to our seat by the server attendants (Raymond, Dhalwal and Marianna). Our server came to our table immediately. However, he did not introduce himself, ask how we were doing nor did he mention any specials; he only asked for our drink orders. Informed him that we will be needing a moment to review the menu as he came when the attendants were handing us the menu. He did not mention anything else and left. We were left puzzled and concerned by interaction. We later got his name (Shea) but the indifference towards us didn't diffuse. Each course arrived in a timely manner which Dhalwal and Raymond throughly explained each component of the dishes. As each dish was served, cutlery was discreetly switched out. After the main course, Shea returned with dessert menus. After placing our order, the cheeseboard and cake left, he returned to us with an "Happy Anniversary" dessert amenity, acknowledging this special event for this first time this evening. We had to ask what types of cheeses and croustini were on the board since it wasn't listed on the menu and he didn't present it to us like the other attendants. This place is located inside the Four seasons, was looking for fancy restaurants for breakfast. I was greeted by a hostess and taken to my table. Cute restaurant inside my server was an Indian male I believe and we ordered a matcha latte and a tea to start. The drinks to quite a long wait and my matcha came out cold and half a cup. I would think the standard of this place would not be like this. I told my server and he said sorry we have a new barista and to recover he offer a tiny pastry that my mom loved. I ordered a sunny side up eggs with bacon and came with some bread and I wanted to get the staff attention because the bacon was cold and soggy not up to standard and my mom ordered the white frittata and it was the most sad looking frittata I have ever seen in my life is this a joke. Anyways we did not enjoy. So I ordered a pastry for the table which was the highlight of the whole experience. Pastry was amazing pretty sure they don't make it in house that's why. But when I got my pastry they did not clear my table or gave me fresh plates had to use the saucer of my matcha tea, server asked a female and she looked at us and never brought it over. This is not our first time going to Cafe Boulud, but this time it gives us the most surprise. We were running 35 mins late from the original reservation, and it is getting close to closed time before we arrived. We called and asked if we can pre-ordered the duck for 2, and they worked out for us. Service is definitely unbeatable. Duck for 2 is always good and never disappointed us. We ordered the chocolate souffle for dessert, yet the waiter told us that the kitchen dropped the last souffle on the floor, and need us to order another dessert. We were slightly disappointed but not a big deal. The surprise comes when the dessert we ordered came out with another dessert on top. I attended a Winterlicious dinner at Café Boulud a couple of days ago and was really happy with the whole experience. I felt that two of the mains were a bit misleading in their descriptions, because they were written as Beef Bourguignon and Bouillabaisse, so I was expecting a stew-type dish and a soup-type dish. Instead, they were both "regular" dishes with meat/fish plus sides (see photos). I ordered the Beef Bourguignon and it was actually beef short rib with roasted carrots, confit potatoes and pearl onions. It was absolutely delicious and the meat was super tender, but it definitely wasn't what I was expecting. My appetizer was the poached pear and duck confit salad. It was good but nothing special. Dessert was better than I expected. I had the Dulcey Creme Verrine with maple whisky ice cream and it was really good. We also had a fantastic bottle of wine for a great price (in comparison to regular prices) from their Winterlicious menu. Much better than expected. Café Boulud all around the world have such a reputation that your expectations are running high, probably too high when you go to one of their cafes. For instance the New Year's special brunch at this Toronto location offered customers a choice of two dishes as part of the menu. After a more than ordinary fruit plate, with mostly tropical fruits rather than seasonal ones, the omelette with cheese served with a green salad was also, shall we say, ordinary. The duck confit with poached eggs, potatoes and mushrooms would have been better with another combination of vegetables, including less potatoes. The seafood counter, one of the three counters, had at will crabs, oysters, shrimps and mussels. The crab was quite tasty but far less the shrimps and oysters which were too cold. The waffle and the dessert counters were no more than average. We have been regular guests to Café Boulud over many years but unfortunately we were disappointed by this one on this special day. I would like to highlight however that our waiter made everything possible to make us happy when our coffee was served late and the black tea was tasteless. We had a work event at the Four Seasons Spa yesterday. My colleague and I decided to have breakfast here at the hotel before we spend the day at the spa. It was definitely a nice way to start the day of pampering ourselves. We were a bit disappointed that the omelette that we had was just okay considering it was $26. We did really enjoy our lattes. So this summer, I came here for lunch. -Charcuterie and cheese: it was tasty, but nothing to rave about. I'll try other apps next time that are crafted and more unique to Cafe Boulud -Steak tartare: this was the best steak tartare I've ever had! - very fresh and nicely seasoned! Some tartare have a slimy texture, but not this one! Surprisingly went very well with the chips. -Grapefruit givre: this is the reason I came back to Cafe Boulud! It's tart and sweet and juicy. The rose jelly and the sesame halva make the dessert so interesting. Love. Atmosphere is sophisticated and being in the Four Seasons Hotel, you know you're dining fancy. The waiters are knowledgeable when telling us about our dishes, every time I've been here. I don't give a lot of 5 stars, because I take Yelp far too seriously. The truth is Cafe Boulud is a 4.8/5, but that's not an option here, so I'm rounding up. It seems the right thing to do. Situated in the Four Seasons Hotel, Yorkville, Cafe Boulud is one of Toronto's absolute best restaurants. Rumour has it that they're going to be in the first round of Michelin Stars that are about to be given our, so I would get there before it becomes impossible to get in. The vibe: french bistro meets sexy Yorkville lounge realness. What does that mean? You'll get it when you go there. Noise level is always very reasonable, minus the loud talker with a distinctly equine laugh at the table across from you, but that's not the restaurants fault. The food: ugh so much that is so good. The oysters are perfection- grit-free and classic. You must get the steak tartare. The re seabream dish was okay, but I wouldn't get it again- for sure it was bright and fresh, but not particularly unique. For mains - The BC halibut was gorgeous, with a sake beurre blanc and caramelized fennel. That was some perfectly cooked fish! The STAR of the night was the veal duo. I was thinking of just doing steak frites, but my server guided me this way, pointing out that the steak frites will always be there, the the veal duo will likely change with the season. The dish included a veal tenderloin that was cooked a perfect medium rare. It was incredibly tender and flavourful. It was served with some beautifully delicate sweetbreads, the most tender squash, and this deeply rich demi. I could have choked to death on this dish and died happy. Dessert was the profiteroles. The presentation was adorable, including a table side pour of hot chocolate, which melted a chocolate dome about the dessert. That said, it was a liiiiittle too sweet for me after you added all that warm chocolate to the dish. But who am I kidding I ate the whole damn thing. The service: I adore a restaurant that is full of professional servers. These aren't actors waiting for their next gig. (Well maybe they are but I doubt it). These are people who are passionate about a fine dining service. My only complaint is that when we arrived, the host stand was empty, and stayed that way for about 5 minutes. We had to basically walk into the restaurant and flag someone down to get seated. By the time she returned, there was a line up of 4 tables waiting to be seated. The cafe is nice; bathrooms are down the hall, not inside the cafe. They have coat check which is nice. They had a 3 course prefix meal for the holidays for brunch. A choice of appetizer, main and dessert. Oysters- 6 oysters, 3 from the east coast and 3 from the west. Served with cocktail sauce and a vinegar. Oysters were fresh. Steak tartare - two slices of toast, 3 lettuce leaves and a good portion of tartare with shaved truffles on top. Very light truffle flavour. Toast was crunchy. It was ok. Eggs meurette - short ribs that were braised (really good) with toast. On top is a grilled foie gras and two red wine poached eggs. The egg was poached perfectly. The short rib was really well done. Foie gras was good. But this is heavy. Like; very very heavy. By the time you ate half way it gets too much. Quenelle de brochet - fish that was blended and formed into a tube, seared and overlay with a cream sauce and 4 lobster pieces. The texture was like egg bites. There was no flavour. The lobsters were cooked well. Rice pilaf was well done. This was a slight disappointment. Sticky toffee pudding cake - the only sticky part was the caramel sauce. Overly sweet. Cake is dry. A little late in writing this review..but hey..at least it's getting done now! Came here for dinner before a show. It's located in Yorkville, inside the Four Seasons Hotel. The ambiance and decor are nice, but there were just mostly old men in here. In fairness, was here mid-week so not sure if it gets more "hip" on the weekends. Not that I have an issue with that at all, but it definitely seems like a singles old men bar. The service was really on point - from the hostess to taking my coat and leading me tot he table to our server. Polite, friendly, made some suggestions and non intrusive. Gotta love that! Ordered: Quenelle de Brochet: Lyon-style northern pike quenelle cognac-lobster sauce, king oyster mushrooms, crawfish. Creamy and delicious (if not a small portion). The pike just flaked away beautifully. POULET À LA BROCHE Poulet a la Broche: rôtisserie half chicken, confit potatoes watercress (you can order a half chicken or a whole - we did a half). The chicken was crispy and juicy, but I wish there were more potatoes. Overall while the meal was tasty, I wasn't particularly blown away. So my dear mother decided to take the family to Boulud. A very high society restaurant located at the Four Seasons in Toronto. I've always wondered what was behind the fancy inlays and uniformed valets. Well mom and my aunt had previously dined here and mom thought the meal was so wonderful we just had to go back. So we all rendezvoused last Friday, disheveled from work and ready for a glass of wine. Food was quite good. Salad Nicoise, Steak frite and Quenelle's made with Pike doused in lobster and cognac. All the appetizers were so good. The octopus was in a light curry sauce which was perfect for the perfectly cooked octopus. The tartare was good and the pasta was amazing. For the mains we had the black cod, guguere chicken, venison and the beef duo. Everything was excellent but the venison was exceptional. For dessert we had the poached pear and the chocolate. Great service! Waiter was checking on us at good intervals to make sure we were okay. Never had to flag him down because he was always there. Food was good too. I ordered the duck confit at the waiter's recommendation because they are popular for it. The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat inside was tender and juicy. There were a few fatty bits that melted in your mouth. The meat was seasoned just right - not salty, well balanced. There were some sweet potatoes and beets as well. My only complaint is the size. The portion is quite small for the price but I guess that's expected from a higher quality restaurant. In addition, we ordered the fried calamari as appetizer and it was only 6 pieces which was surprising. For a table of 3, it didnt really seem enough. At least there's bread on the table. Over priced and rude staff. We had reservations for 1.30pm and didn't get seated until 2.05pm. The host didn't apologize or bother explain the situation, they asked us to sit by the elevators out the way. It was appallingly poor customer service for such an high quality hotel. Food was okay, but it is not good value for money. Would not recommend. read more

Even we were sharply on time we had been told to wait as two groups of guests were in front of us. However there were many unoccupied tables in n the restaurant meanwhile! We waited for our mains about 30-40 minutes!!! It is good we ordered fries to nibble on. My main Rossini due, goose liver was Extremely Salty but veal fillet is zero seasoned and tasted simply boiled nod grilled. My husband sweet bread was good but on a smaller size. My mom and I went here for lunch for summerlisious. Really nice summer menu. Everything was flavourful but light. I got the watermelon mocktail with ginger beer. Really nicely balanced. We shared the tuna salad and the tomato salad. I was a fan of the second one more. The cheese was so creamy and the dressing was nice and garlicky without being over powering. Then we had the fish and the chicken. Fish was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes were so nice and creamy. Liked that they left the skins on. It was a nice texture. The sauce with the chicken was so die for! I highly suggest getting that. We got the chocolate cake and the apricot dessert. I suggest the apricot dessert unless you like realllly rich chocolate cake/ganache. The crumble cake at the bottom of the apricot dessert wasn't too sweet and had a bit of mint in it which made it feel very summery. The cream on it was a little like a fluffy sour cream which was perfect with the sweetness of the apricots! read more

Winterlicious 2020 Dinner $53 App: Mushroom soup Main: Seafood (shrimp, fish, mussel) Dessert: Pistachio Mousse I'm a huge mushroom and truffle fan so when I saw truffle mushroom soup option on the licious menu I was like I MUST get this. However, the truffle taste is not THAT strong but the soup was delicious overall. I picked the seafood option for main and it was pretty fresh and delicious but the mussels were a bit colder compared to the other seafood on the plate. The fish and shrimp were fantastic tho! The dessert was VERY good, I'm a huge fan for pistachio as well and it did not disappoint. This is my second licious meal at cafe boulud and I still see myself coming back! Working up the ladder, or in this case, working up the food chain, I was extremely disappointed in Café Boulud. Having to think I canceled Daniel just this past weekend. Maybe it was a good thing? Then again, Toronto doesn't have any Michelin rated restaurants, and this establishment doesn't exude this certain sophistication. I was literally floored with the presentation of the shrimp cocktail. I had already adjusted my expectations knowing that we are in Toronto, and that I shouldn't be that critical and also, be nice. After a short moment, I forgave the fact that it looked like 6 shrimps were just tossed onto a plate (very much like I'd do at home), but the taste was enough to push me overboard. Being nice, I had my wife kindly inform our waiter that the shrimps needed to be returned. Subsequently, the rest of our meal was as expected (i.e. modified expectations, as expected). The manager was kind enough to offer a change from shrimps to escargots (I wonder have expected anything less). read more

Nice environment, well trained staff on COVID protocols. I started with pale ale, but provided a Pilsner glass, later I ordered wheat beer, wrong glasses again. Seems they need to train their staff on basic beer glass knowledge. I ordered ratatouille as the starter and Ontario wild rice for main dish. The ratatouille is below average, not even as good as my homemade. The flavour wasn't even set into the vegetables, felt under cooked. The wild rice is ok but could be more interesting since we are in season (fall) while a lot of fresh vegetables are at their peak of their flavour. Overall, the quality and the creativity didn't match a restaurant at this level as I expected. read more

Came here for lunch and got the steak frites. The food was good. Everyone I went with left with a cleared plate. The service was fine. The server wasn't over the top friendly but was patient and delivered everything we needed. I give a 3 rating because everything was overall "good" and middle of the road. read more

A-ok! Not fabulous IMHO, but very good. Obviously the ambiance is all that. Seek the well-designed interior and the well-heeled clientele, and ye shall find. But the food fell a tad short of the mark for me. Oysters were not as delicious as those I'm used to getting in nice t-dot spots; the poached wild white shrimp were also a bit meh; and the duck confit, while tasty enough (and crispy), was nothing too too special. It doesn't rank among the best duck confits I've had recently in the city (hat tip to Cafe Cancan and Paris Paris). Mind you, my husband ordered the 8oz beef tenderloin ($68) which he LOVED (5 out of 5 stars, he said). So there's that. But perhaps most disappointing for me was dessert. Isn't this a French restaurant, where desserts are expected to shine? The caramel pot de creme was a dud. I should mention: some very well-heeled folks I know, my husband included (lol) absolutely love this restaurant. I'm just not one of them. read more
